"The prints are rather large" Kyle muttered as he ran is fingers through his unkempt gray beard, "keep your bow at the ready, the prints are rather fresh as well"

Caitlyn had already had the bow ready, but only now ready an arrow on the string. The creature being tracked has terrorized the locals of Caitlyn's village for weeks know, but only now someone that it needed to stop. That someone being Kyle, the village's only archer for a long time, until he had his first child, Caitlyn. Kyle took it upon himself to raise an archer as good as he was, but Caitlyn wasn't taking to it as well as her father.

The duo followed the tracks and but eventually came across what they assumed to be it's dwelling, a small cave filled with assorted carcasses. Kyle was fairly nervous, but wasn't going to let Caitlyn know. "Will wait for it" Kyle asserted, "night is coming soon, and it'll be back"

Kyle and Caitlyn concealed themselves behind foliage, and waited until it came. Caitlyn wasn't much for waiting, but she needed to prove herself, prove that she could reach the level of her father. Hours passed and a lumbering creature started stumbling towards the cave. It was taller and broader than a human, and much more primal. It had some sort of fur covering all but it's leathery face. A large heavy club was slung over it's shoulder and the body of a recently bludgeoned deer was being dragged behind it.

Caitlyn cast a nervous glance toward her father, who had his bow pointing at the beast. He glanced over to Caitlyn and gave her the signal to get ready. He let the arrow loose, and hit the monster in it's ribs. It's painful howl reverberated through the woods, followed by the terrible sound of it bounding towards the arrow's source.

"Caitlyn! Shoot it!" Kyle yelled as he ducked below the venison stained club. "Shoot it!"

Caitlyn fired, but hit only a nearby tree. She fired again, but to a similar result. "Caitlyn! quit playing arou-" Kyle was cut off by the beasts weapon, the force of which threw him against a tree led by a terrifying crunch. The body fell to the ground.

The monster picked up the body and began to bring it back to it's cave. Caitlyn, in desperation fired another arrow, hitting the beast in the base of it's neck. The monster felt the sting of the arrow. It couldn't risk another hit of the sort, so it dropped the body and fled, away from it's cave.

Not concerned with the idea of the monster hiding and waiting for her to come out so it can attack, Caitlyn ran over to the body of Kyle. His back was bent to a terrible degree and his eyes stuck looking straight ahead.

Caitlyn knew he died because of her. She couldn't help him. She wasn't good enough. She went away from her village to hone her ability with the bow. She knew, however, that no matter how good she gets, the last thought that ran through her dad's head, was her not being good enough.
