Dentesila Kilthrin
|
"Oh yes - I suppose you're right Konner." "dammit stop showing yourself up! First that clumsy charge, now a dumb observation like that. Do they report back to the Venture-Captain if you screw up? You need this gig - now shape up!"
With a jaunty confidence she does not feel inside, Dentesila steps inside the archway. She yells over her shoulder, "I'll be unhappy if that crappy human eyesight of yours means you fill me full of arrows when I come back out!"

Gabrielle doesn't see anything dangerous from where she stands. With Cazithiel, Konner, and Dentesila leading, you enter the archway. The northern wing of the tower seems to have escaped the worst effects of the collapse, but rubble still litters the floor and everything is covered in a thick layer of stone dust. Thick cobwebs cloak the ceiling and hang down the walls like gossamer tapestries. A single archway stands open in the southwest wall.
Web: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
As Dentesila leads the party in, a glob of sticky web flies down and lands dangerously close to her feet. As she looks up to the ceiling, she spots a giant scaleback spider nesting in the webbing. It doesn't look very friendly!
Cazithiel: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Dentesila: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Gabrielle: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Caitlyn: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Irvine: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Konner: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Spider: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Map updated. The spider is 15 feet up on the ceiling.
Looks like Everyone is up before the spider, although the spider isn't currently in melee range. Everyone can act!
Gabrielle Spiritmoon

"Ugh, how disgusting," Gabrielle sneers as the sticky web pools next to Dentesila. "It's a good thing it didn't get on my gown! Now then, let's deal with this problem, shall we?"
She aims her bow up at the spider and releases an arrow.
Longbow, PBS: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 1 = 191d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Dentesila Kilthrin
|
"Spiders now?" Whipping a throwing dagger from her waistband, she hurls a dagger at the spider with an looping underhand throw.
dagger: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 91d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
When the dagger misses and adheres to the webbing festooning the ceiling, Dentesila follows it with a volley of unladylike swearing: "Oh come on!"
Cazithiel
|
Cazithiel groans audibly in frustration. "I get the doors from now on! I should have seen this."
Expecting the need to move quickly, he steps forward and drops in a crouched battle stance, rapier in one hand, and his other hand becoming enshrouded in darkness.
Move and ready an attack.
Touch of Darkness:
Touch Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
On a successful touch, everyone has Concealment against the spider for one round.

Why do the creatures of nature hate us?
Caitlyn draws back her bow, then fires at the spider
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 5 + 1 = 16

Irvine turns his attention to the spider, staring at it for a long moment before shaking his head ever so slightly. "No...Why spiders...? Why does it have to be spiders?" He looks at the ground for something to possibly throw at it, wanting to help in some way seeing he was out of range. He certainly wasn't about to willingly charge after a spider. Not that he was scared of them or anything... He just really hated them.
Looking at the ground for some kind of weapon but only finding rocks and rubble, he reached down finding a perfectly smooth stone about the same size as his hand. He used to love skipping these across the shore when he was kid.
He held the edge of it in his hand, raring his arm back and tossing it as hard as he could at the spider.

GM Red

The duo of arrows fired by Gabrielle and Caitlyn impale the spider through its abdomen, spraying the webbing with thick, green ichor. Konner's arrow punches through the spider's thorax, but Irvine's unfamilarity with his stone literally throws his aim off and he chucks the rock at the ceiling.
Random victim: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Web: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
The spider shoots another spray of web at Dentesila, again missing its target. Exhausted of energy and severely injured, the creature falls to the ground in front of Cazathiel and curls up into a ball.
Combat's over!

Konner slashes across a small cocoon hanging in the webs. The cocoon holds the remains of an unfortunate dog that fell into the spider's clutches. The desiccated carcass is still wearing its leather collar, which is studded with lapis lazuli stones and has a silver tag reading "Kita." It is likely of some value to the right merchant.
Cazithiel
|
As Konner searches the webs, Cazithiel heads over to the one door in this chamber. He places his hand on the door and intones a few words in an arcane tongue.
"Show me, my lord, the realms beyond."
Using Exploration Domain's Door Sight power:
Door Sight (Su): You can lay your hand upon any surface and see what is on the other side, as if using clairvoyance. Using this power takes 1 minute, during which time you must be touching the surface you want to see through. You can keep looking for as long as 10 minutes with each use of this power, but must touch the surface and take no other action the entire time. The surface cannot be thicker than 6 inches plus 1 inch per cleric level you possess. You can use this power a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.
Konner Therinor
|
This might mean something to someone....poor thing. I miss my dog Scout...he's likely back at home chasing squirrels up the apple trees on our land... Konners reminisces as he puts the collar in his pack.
Let's carry on... He heads towards the other doorway with blade in hand
Dentesila Kilthrin

Retrieving her dagger from the ceiling webs with a hail of stones, Dentesila heads over to the curled corpse of the spider. She administers a super-cautious coup de grace to the arachnid. "Can't be too careful". Bending over the body, she gingerly ( takes 10 to extract the poison glands of the spider, curious as to whether they can be removed intact."I wonder whether these could be used to apply spider venom to a blade?".
hey DM Red what do you think?
GM Red
|
I think you'd need to have the Poison Use ability to be able to do that, at least in PFS. I get the sense you're more likely to poison yourself by not being experienced it. If you had Poison Use, you could both craft and extract poison. Sorry!
It looks like our map was mistakenly moved earlier today. If anyone has looked at the map on a phone, this happens a lot. For now, we'll just roll with it as if you had entered the next chamber.
You walk into the next room, which is also chock full of dust and rubble, and Cazithiel lays his hand on the door ahead. He speaks a strange incantation and in his mind, he sees a spiral staircase past the door. The passage down is entirely covered with rubble from the collapse, but you could definitely climb up to the second level with the stairs.
Looking back up at the tower from the outside, the floor above the one you are currently in is missing a wall on the eastern end, and you get the sense it would be easier to climb up that section of the tower to the landing rather than scale a smoother end. How will you proceed?
All rooms other than the ones facing outside are dark, so please indicate what your light source is unless you have darkvision.
Cazithiel
|
Cazithiel calls for shadows in darkness, touches his headband, and it blazes forth with light.
"Shadows only exist where there is both light and darkness," he explains.
Casting light.
GM Red
|
Konner dons Dentesila's hooded lantern while Cazithiel magically illuminates the staircase with a light spell. When you reach the second floor, you're confronted with a large, rusty metal door.
Map updated. Pretty cool spell you've got there, Caz. I've never used Door Sight before, but it's super useful for this adventure. Of course, it's your choice whether to use it or not. :)
Irvine M. Wolf

Seeing the door, Irvine walked up to it. He examined it closely, balling up a fist and knocking on it with his knuckles. Looking back at the group, he rose a brow. "Any objections...? No?" He grabbed the handle pulling on it hard.

Irivne pushes the creaky iron door open to reveal something of an armory. Racks for weapons line the walls of the chamber. Above the racks hang various shields, pieces of armor, weapons, and standards on display. Most of the racks are empty, but a few weapons remain in place. A horrible stench fills the room as well, akin to the smell of rotten eggs mixed with the reek of an open sewer.
Two tall, bipedal creatures with dull grey scales hiss as they notice you.
"Who are thesseeeee peopleee? In our tower?"
"Massssster will not be pleaasssssed. Kill themmmm!"
Cazithiel: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Dentesila: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Gabrielle: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Red: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
Green: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6
Given their proximity to the creatures, the awful smell overcomes most of the party's senses.
Irvine, Cazithiel, Gabrielle, and Caitlyn- I need two DC 13 Fort saves to not be sickened.
Cazithiel, Konner, and Dentesila are up
Irvine, Caitlyn, and Gabrielle

Fortitude: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Fortitude: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Overcome with a wave of nausea, Cazithiel chides, "That's why we don't just knock!"
Nevertheless, the cleric rushes into the room, ignoring his churning stomach to move to the opposite side of the creatures. His free hand becomes swathed in darkness as he attempts to force it upon the foe.
Touch of Darkness on Red: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 - 2 = 8
He staggers from the stench and fails to connect.
Gabrielle Spiritmoon

Fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Gabrielle chokes on her breakfast as the disgusting smell overcomes her senses. ".... Oh my goodness, I didn't think anything could smell worse than the servants' quarters. I was mistaken."
She moves up past the door and fires an arrow at the red lizardman.
Longbow, point blank shot, sickened: 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 1 - 2 = 51d8 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 1 - 2 = 6
The nausea causes her to lose her grip on the arrow and she releases it prematurely. "Oh dear."
Dentesila Kilthrin
|
Seeing Cazithiel lunging into the room, Dentesila raises her blade and rushes after him to engage the righthand creature. Her movement is hindered by pushing through her allies, and so she is unable to charge it or attach its flank, but nonetheless she arrives at speed and drives a rising lunge at her foe's exposed throat.
Attack on Red: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 171d10 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

It smells pretty awful near the creatures, so anyone entering the room needs two fort saves versus stench unless you'd already made them when the door opened.
Fort save, Dentesila: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Fort save, Dentesila: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Dentesila is exposed to the smell of rotten eggs as she enters the room, causing her to be sickened and her aim to be off when she lunges at the red troglodyte's neck.
Konner, I think you need to move a little further up to see him. Let me know if you'd like to do this.
Irvine and Caitlyn may act
Caitlyn Arciere
|
Fort Save 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Fort Save 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Caitlyn steps up next to Gabrielle, gagging at the creature's smell, but fires her bow at them anyways
Attack, Point blank and Sickened (At the Green Monster: 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 1 - 2 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Irvine M. Wolf
|
Irvine drew his sword once again, hearing the commotion on the other side of the door and ducked past Gabrielle with a "Pardon!" to take in what was on the other side of the door and taking time to decide his action.
Just gonna move up 20' towards green
GM Red

Correction - Dentesila managed to hit the troglodyte earlier.
Fort save, Konner: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Fort save, Konner: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Dentesila manages to lob her weapon through the red creature's mouth, and despite being choked up by the rancid smell, Caitlyn's aim is true and she punctures the green trog's chest with an arrow. Konner's disgust throws off his aim, however.
"Fooolssss.. You will die for thissss.."
"I call the big juicy looking human once we kill them... tasssty"
Irvine advances and holds his blade ahead, waiting for the creature to advance. The red-eyed troglodyte finds himself surrounded, and tries to smash 1d2 ⇒ 1 Cazathiel with his club.
Club: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
The angry creature's balance is off and nothing connects. This last ditch attack causes it fall over and bleed out.
Javelin: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Green lobs a javelin at Irvine and instead smashes apart a wooden armor rack in the far corner with it.
Everyone is up
Dentesila Kilthrin
|
Ducking in reaction to the impact of the javelin in the armour rack behind Cazathiel, Dentesila recovers then launches herself across the room at the remaining creature. "I've got this" (muttered more to herself than to the other party members).
Flanking the creature, she watches for an opening, then aims a lightning slash at the creature's right forearm - a literal disarm attempt.
move, flank attack whilst sickened
Elven curved sword: 1d20 + 5 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 2 - 2 = 211d10 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Cazithiel
|
His off hand still enshrouded in an nimbus of darkness, Cazithiel clambers against the wall, leaping to perch precariously on the weapon rack next to the remaining creature. He snakes out his hand to touch it.
Touch Attack: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 - 2 = 4
Still failing to connect.
I'm setting up the flank in the square next to the creature directly opposite to me. Move there and your attack will be at +2. It's rough terrain, so it takes 2 squares of movement to go there, but we've got two combatants who can get there.
Irvine M. Wolf
|
Irvine let out a curse as the javelin wizzed by him, ducking slightly. "Now that's enough of that!" he barked, gripping his sword tight and making his move towards the creature, sword ready to strike.
Moving to attack green.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Damage: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (1, 4) + 5 = 10
Oh but Caz, you said it would be +2 in that square for attack, so that would make it 20, correct? I think I did that right. :/
Dentesila Kilthrin
|
"Good work Irvine - this is being swiftly settled. Let's finish this one, then hope their struggles have passed unnoticed." Dentesila looks over her shoulder, warily "although I don't know whether I'm more apprehensive about the threat of reinforcements, or the threat of turning my back to three trigger-happy archers..."
GM Red
|
Irvine and Dentesila unleash a combination of attacks which proves to be deadly, with Cazathiel setting up the creature to be flanked from the side. Dentesila lunges at its forearm, slicing it across and causing the troglodyte to drop its weapon, and when it turns to think about picking it up, Irvine carves the monster down the middle, leaving a pool of scaly grey flesh and greenish brown goo.
Out of combat!
Dentesila Kilthrin
|
Moving up to the nearest (southeastern) door, Dentesila readys an attack against anyone coming through.
If the door opens inward towards us, then she'll make sure she stands on whichever side avoids the risk of face-on-door comedy
If nothing appears to be coming through, she'll risk putting her ear to the door to listen for activity on the far side of the door.
perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
"Hey - anything worth taking in here? Let's not dawdle: this stench is driving me mad!"
Irvine M. Wolf
|
Cleaning off his large blade again, Irvine stows it away again behind him to watch the group, taking a deep whiff of the scent of the room. "Smells like the inside of a slaver ship...Ah, memories..." He closed his eyes, taking another whiff and smiling ear to ear.
Irvine M. Wolf
|
Irvine glanced over to Dentesila at her question, opening an eye. "Well... yes actually... but I was a slave first. Then a Slaver Captain..." he thought a moment at what he said. "It sounds worse than It actually was..." He thought for another moment and rolled his eyes at himself. "Okay, well-... It was bad but the retribution was eye opening..."
Dentesila Kilthrin

"The Forest of Shadows? I heard some terrible things about that place. I heard that there, a party of adventurers can be adventuring together one moment, then the next, some of their number just vanish without a trace - even in the midst of combat!" Dentesila looks about her in trepidation.
"I even heard of one group of adventurers who found themselves lost, frozen in one place, able to talk together but not move, for what seemed like an eternity..." She looks at Caz fearfully: "You are so lucky to have avoided such a cruel fate. The Pathfinder Society would not allow such a horror to happen so close to having left Absalom."
