Caitlyn finds that each of the skeletons carried a scimitar, but both of them are cracked and rusted. Specifically, they have the broken condition
On the altar are a set of dusty silver chalices and holy symbols, likely of some value to the right vendor. In addition, a scroll rests on top of each altar. Cazithiel is able to read the words on them and discerns that the one on the black altar is a scroll of shatter, while a scroll of shield other rests on the white altar.
Dentesila spends some time searching the room and makes out the faint outline of a secret door on the southeast wall. It appears to be locked.
Cazithiel |
Knowledge(Religion): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
"This once was a sacred place to Nethys," Cazithiel says, pointing out the altars. "Sacred no longer. These scrolls are worth taking, and let us remember this place. The Pathfinders will want to know about this place."
Konner Therinor |
[ooc]i have a wand...what you need[/b]
I'll look at the lock.... Konner says ad he gets out his tools again. He examinrs the lock first, then jabs a pick in the mechanism.
perc traps: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24disable: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
GM Red |
Konner peeks around the hidden doorframe and doesn't spot any traps, so he begins to work on the lock. After a few minutes of selecting different sizes of tools, he's able to find the sweet spot and the lock clicks open.
Dentesila Kilthrin |
Dentesila passes her club to Caitlyn beofe downing one of her two healing potions supplied by Caitlyn "Thank you - I needed that.".
With the assent of the others, she sweeps the silverware into her sack, and passes the scrolls to Cazithiel "I hope you can make sense of these. I think I'd struggle."
She hefts her sword, and looks up expectantly to see what might be found on the other side of the secret door...
Dentesila's CLW potion: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 Cool, back up to full health
Hey DM whereabouts on the map is the secret door to be found?
AbyssDancer |
Caitlyn pushed her remaining healing potion into Irvine's hands "Here, this will help deal with those burns"
Irvine's CLW potion: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 I think that gets your HP from 7 to 9, less either 2 or 4 (depending on the reflex save for the last one. You probably need to take a charge (1d8+1) from Kenner's wand of CLW before we go any further
GM Red |
I've moved the map so you can see the 'S' where the secret door is. The door isn't open yet, just unlocked
Irvine M. Wolf |
Irvine took the potion from Caitlyn, nodding a silent "Thank you.".
Wand Charge: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Irvine opened his eye wide, shaking his head as if he just snorted chili powder. "Wow, that's invigorating...Alright, I think I can go now. Let keep going..." He stood back, watching the group again.
GM Red |
Cazithiel peers through the door and into the half-collapsed room, which is open on the east end, allowing daylight to flood the area. He sees piles of rubble and dust, and as he uses his sensor to look up to the ceiling, he peeks a swarm of bats hanging in wait for whatever should disturb their nest.
GM Red |
Are you going into the bat room, then, or up to the next floor?
AbyssDancer |
"I agree, but we ought to ensure we clear that area before we leave. For some reason, the builders of this tower decided to conceal fully half this level behind a concealed entrance. They must had good reason to do so."
Caitlyn retraces her steps back to the staircase, and advances upward, bow at the ready...

AbyssDancer |
(Dentesila nods and follows her, overtaking her, to stand at the landing awaiting the others).
"Dead handy, that door sight of yours, Caz. It's really given us the edge every time. How many more times can you call on it today? Do we need to conserve your powers, in case of greater need?"
-Posted with Wayfinder
Cazithiel |
"Perhaps twice more. Given the layout of this building, once at the top of the stairs will assist our decision making, in all likelihood."
In an attempt to confirm, Cazithiel heads up the stairs to the next (top?) landing.
GM Red |
Almost at the top, but not quite.
You decide to conserve your resources and head upstairs, where you are confronted with - wait for it - another door!
The room is pitch black, but what you are able to make out is two wooden doors connecting to the room ahead as well a wooden bedpost and the foot of a scaly humanoid.
Cazithiel |
Cazithiel returns to join the party. "There is another scaled creature above us. It is clear they have avoided this floor in general, however. The room is dark, so I did not see much, maybe a bed. I would imagine whatever lies beyond the bats is untouched by the scaled ones, but the value that lies there? I cannot say."
Irvine M. Wolf |
"Agreed. And if there's a bed there has to be something to sleep in it...Maybe this scaled creature is lonely. Then again... the last time I tried to seduce a reptile-..." He rubbed his cheek down to his neck. "Maybe not. Yeah, we should kill it..."
GM Red |
You all head upstairs to the door Cazithiel had inspected. Irvine bravely pushes it open, and the owner of the scaled foot hisses at the sudden intrusion. What becomes even more evident is the same putrid stench you had smelled earlier permeating past the doorway.
Cazithiel: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

Yellow: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
The nearest troglodyte points his club at you and mutters something in draconic.
I need a DC 11 Fort Save from everyone. Anyone who enters the room will need two more saves. Failing any of them will cause you to be sickened for 10 rounds. These do not stack.

Rapier in one hand, Cazithiel calls for speed from his god. He rushes in, reeling from the nausea, staggering as he repositions around the creature nearest the door.
Cast expeditious retreat, acrobatic move, drawing AoO.
GM Red |
No AoO for Caz since your enemy is flat-footed
Club: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 81d6 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
As Cazithiel rushes in, the red-eyed troglodyte steps forward around the beds and swings his club at the elf, but smashes apart a dusty old bedpost instead.
Irvine is up
Dentesila Kilthrin |
Apologies for posting out of order, but I'm a different time zone and am conscious of the need to keep it moving. After the yellow troglodyte acts, Dentesila will seek to engage an enemy according to the following preferences:
- an enemy she can charge and flank,
- an enemy she can charge,
- an enemy which is not already engaged in combat
Gritting her teeth against the stench, Dentesila launched herself at the creatures with a steely resolve. Parrying one blow on her blade, she unleashes a sweeping uppercut to the chest:
Fort save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Fort save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

As Irvine entered the room with his blade drawn, it nearly slipped from his hand, the smell overpowering. It had been a while since he had smelled anything as bad as that. The last time he had smelled anything this bad, he was still a slaver at sea. Those ships could really smell after days and was generally bad enough to keep anyone who wasn't on one regularly to stay off.He raised the cloth of his undershirt over his nose, groaning and squinting his eyes. This was definitely going to throw him off. He gripped his swordblade, moving for an attack on the closest thing his eyes would allow him to see.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 3 - 1 = 18
Damage: 2d6 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (6, 2) + 5 - 2 = 11
GM Red |
Even as he gags on the awful stench, Irvine manages to cut down the blue-scaled troglodyte with a single strike. Yellow watches his companion fall and runs into the southeast room. You hear some frantic yelling in Draconic, and those who can see into the southeast room notice an especially brutish looking humanoid standing near a brazier of glowing coals.
Dentesila, given one of them died, one of them ran away, and the other isn't within charging range, what would you and Caitlyn like to do? You can keep your rolls, of course. Also, Konner is up.
Dentesila Kilthrin |
Dentesilia will move up into the room, past the dead troglodyte, look into the southern room, and stand inside our side of the door frame, readying an attack (previous roll) against anyone coming through.
Caitlyn will move up to the doorway into the first room, and fire at the red troglodyte in combat with Caz using her previous roll .

Caitlyn fort save 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Caitlyn coughs up some of her lunch of raisins and bread, swallows hard and notches an arrow in her bow. She lets it fly and it bolts through the air and deep into the troglodyte's chest. He writhes in pain and a deep growl escapes from his lips as he snaps the end of the arrow off. -6 to red

Konner moves into the room but is taken aback by the stench. He stops as he tries to engage the (yellow) lizard, not able to do anything more.

Cazithiel leaps across the beds to get around the creature before him, then stabs.

Cazithiel manages to scratch the already injured red troglodyte. He holds his wound with his arm, then turns away from Caz and darts past Caitlyn, scrambling up the spiral staircase.
Irvine is up
AbyssDancer |
Do Invine or Caitlyn get an aoo as red goes past? If Caitlyn does then since she has no melee weapon to hand, she will attempt a trip combat maneauver to send red falling down the stairs rather than heading upward.
-Posted with Wayfinder
GM Red |
Oops. He took a withdraw action, so Irvine won't get an AoO, but Caitlyn will. Caitlyn's trip will provoke first.
AoO: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
The troglodyte holds its club out as Caitlyn sweeps her leg underneath him. His rapid movement causes both he and Caitlyn to miss their targets, and he scurries up the stairs behind her.
GM Red |
Botting Irvine
Irvine darts ahead past Caitlyn, getting as close as he can to the yellow-clad creature, although his armor slows him down a bit. The same creature swings his club at Konner, but Konner ducks out of the way easily.

Caitlyn shouts that the red troglodyte has probably gone to seek support, since it went up, not down, the spiral staircase.
Not willing to follow alone, and wary of the risk of reinforcements arriving through the as-yet unopened door to the north, she sprints into the room, over turns the nearest bed, and takes cover behind it covering both the north door and the stairwell with her bow.

Dentesila Kilthrin |
As Konner darts through the door past her, Dentesila follows him, skirting the yellow troglodyte, and launching a lightning thrust at the waist of the larger creature at the rear of the room.
I assume that don't need to repeat a save for yellow (which I passed last time) but that I do make a fresh Fortitude save for the large troglodyte for the first time.Fort save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 71d10 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Her foe casually sidesteps her ineffective strike with distain.
GM Red |
Correct - if you aren't sickened already, you'll need to make that save once you get in range of the larger troglodyte
The large troglodyte dodges Dentesila's blow, but Konner finds a soft spot under the other beast's jaw and shoves his rapier in. The wound isn't as deep as it could be, but he tears open a bloody gash nonetheless.
The brutish troglodyte mumbles something in a strange language, then angrily raises his club at Dentesila.

The club swipes her across the chest and tears through her flesh. He follows with his claw and teeth but his earlier swing throws him off balance.

Irvine M. Wolf |
Too much of this running around in the foul air was like force feeding a street urchin's sock down his throat. Holding his stomach and trying to keep himself from expelling any more of whatever was left inside of it, Irvine rushed in position next to the Troglodyte, blade in hand as he made his attack.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (9) + 3 - 1 = 11
Damage: 2d6 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (4, 4) + 5 - 2 = 11

Cazithiel takes advantage of his preternatural speed to dash past the beds, through the door, hug the second chamber's wall, and place himself at the yellow scaled one's back, and still have the time to strike.
Flanking Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 2 = 24

GM Red |
Irvine catches his foot on a loose piece of cobblestone as he swings, throwing his strike off balance, but Cazithiel's aim is true and he pummels the creature in the back, bruising its internals and quickly knocking it unconscious.
Caitlyn, Konner, and Dentesila (-3) are up
AbyssDancer |
Caitlyn maintains a beady eye and a ready arrow, watching for reinforcements from the north or the stairwell from behind the partial cover of the upturned bed. Only occasionally does she risk a glance over her shoulder at the melee in the room behind her.
Dentesila Kilthrin |
Warily, Dentesila tried to manoeuvre around her opponent { a 5' step) to the the advantage of Caz. Despite the ache in her side where the creature's club had struck her, she reacted to an opening and suddenly lunged forward with a flurry of blows against its right side:
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 171d10 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
GM Red |
I moved Konner's token into a flanking position with Dentesila as he stated
Konner swings his body around the coals and tries to stab the lizard-like creature in the chest but hits air instead. Dentesila's aim is much better, and she carves open a nasty wound in the troglodyte's back. It hisses back at her in anger and retaliates.
Club: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Claw: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (10) - 3 = 7
Bite: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (10) - 3 = 7
... but the scene is comical as Dentesila dodges each and every attack.
