Just let me know when you guys are ready to move to the next room. I assume you wish to keep the "go counter-clockwise, explore every room strategy?"

![]() |

Ready here, and yes I suppose we are.

![]() |

Anyone's more than welcome to try it... my 13 on the die wasn't enough...

![]() |

I don't think anyone's bonus is any better.

![]() |

The bonus is the same for all, it depends on the item. You just need to be luckier than me.

![]() |

Ha, I must have missed the compass on this map; I thought southeast was as if the map lined up on a compass without rotating. Oops! Good thing this initial 4 is merely eating my False Life.

Weird case; all the damage done to me was Temporary HP, which I'm pretty sire is lost first (excluding Barb Temp HP), so I can't technically heal it back.

DM Ranginui |

Sure. DC 15 heal or 1 point of curative magic.
Perhaps you should wait for input from Chuurock bin Ausk

![]() |

Ha, Kris' solution was going to be "walk it off," so that was effectively the ooc plan.

DM Ranginui |

4 doors remain in this level, 2 to the room indicated to have the stairs. A different door had voices; three are silent.
Where to next?

![]() |

I'd say let's finish the "outer ring" first, so the easternmost door.
By the way, do we have a sense of where the center of this place is? We were told the Heart would be at the center, which is easy enough to spot on the map, but I'm not sure our characters have the same perspective than us. Any insight on that?

DM Ranginui |

I don't think it takes a genius to determine where the "center" is, and you walk around the corridors a few times your characters will quickly come to the same conclusion.
The lock on the eastern door is superior to the others - and you can still here the (humanoid) voices coming from behind. Feel free to move yourselves on the map and use whatever approach you wish to undo the lock.

![]() |

We do have the chime. Anyone wants to try his luck? The bonus is +11.

![]() |

Statistically, it's going to take several tries to open that lock with the chime, though, if it is even possible (and the dice don't just stay too low). That's the basis for my comment that the chime is going to warn them anyway. If we have basically no chance of surprising them, why not see if they'll just open the door for us?

![]() |

Time we may or may not have. Still, it may be the best choice. I would rather confront the voices before clearing the rest of the level. How do the voices sound? Panicked? Complacent? Scheming? Shouting? Singing? Reciting Shakespearean sonnets?

DM Ranginui |

Hey, so is the plan to go to the door and knock?
This is what you were told before about the other inhabitants of this floor:

![]() |

Perhaps we could make an ally out of her? Could a high-diplomacy character try and interact with her through the door to attempt something like that?

![]() |

So who's the lucky Diplomacizer?
-Posted with Wayfinder

![]() |

It doesn't seem we have one. Several bluffers by the look of it, some great at intimidation, but no diplomancer. I suggest we avoid this room altogether and move to the inner ring.

DM Ranginui |

I'm going to assume that you take Shandor's suggestion and head to another door. There are two rooms, one on the south side of the central structure and one on the west side, both with what appears to be an average lock. Would someone like to roll for the Chime?

![]() |

Actually, you're right Baldwyn. Since the posting rate of everybody has been on the low side for many days now, we could head straight to the Heart and finish this while we can. Opinions?

DM Ranginui |

Yes, I've been trying to keep things moving but the interest does seem to have trickled off unfortunately. If you wish to cut your way into the heart right now it will definitely hasten the conclusion.

![]() |

Same as Tektite; I haven't actually sat at a non-work computer for at least half a week. Either or works for me.

![]() |

Not in a rush either, I just wanted to make sure we'd be able to finish it.

![]() |

Busy here as well. Crap job, job hunting, school, that sorta stuff. The only discouragement I have is Baldwyn failing as a fighter, hahaha. Defeated by hardness, can't hit half the time, always running away like a pansy, gettin' fascinated... Fighters suck, hahaha. It's the character's discouragement that prompted the suggestion, actually. As a player, I'm happy to keep exploring.

![]() |

I've been trying to be responsive, not directive, in my posting. That hasn't helped, I'm sure.
Honestly, I think the best IC answer is to go straight for the heart. The room with the pictures of those who have died in here already strongly suggested the two brothers are dead. We're here to kill the demi-plane and close it. Exploring every nook and cranny before we do so is about meta-gaming, trying not to miss anything that we can squeeze from the opportunity. It wouldn't be the focus of the adventurers in reality, because it represents increased risk that can actually, honestly prevent mission success.
It is accepted organized play behavior, because so many players are afraid of leaving something on the table and not getting everything they can. Save and retry on computer/console games have expanded the expectation of getting everything far more than anything else I know about.

![]() |

I have to agree with Chuurock. That said, in and out of character I wonder if there's a way to the heart from the room above.
My own posting has been slower mostly due to work, but also partly because I was expecting to step through the mirror straight to a BBEG fight. Finding a whole dungeon kinda sucked the wind out of my sails. That said, it's been a pretty interesting place to explore, definitely with a creepy vibe to it.

DM Ranginui |

Your mission was to check up on Anya!
The other reason to head upstairs, of course, is that you have half a story :) I don't mean from a structural point of view, but rather you only heard Stepan's side of the story.
Attacking the heart straightaway is a perfectly valid approach, and I don't mean to dissuade you from it if that's what you want to do. Choices, choices! My only concern is that you as players are adequately engaged!

DM Ranginui |

Ah, are midterms going on right now? Maybe thats why all the PbP boards have slowed down - a lot of students playing?

![]() |

Ha, not on my end. Haven't had an exam that wasn't a medical one for my ankle in at least 2-3 years, do ho ho. The Wayfinder app dying (from forum changes) is what hobbled me; the wsb browser is a bit of a readjustment.
