I'm thinking just to buy and have ready. Not enough spell slots to scribe & memorize!
The two achieve the same goal to different degrees. See invisibility only works on me, but glitterdust only lasts 2 rounds. If we did encounter an invisible creature that somehow didn't drop its cloak to attack, could I "light up" it's square with a magic missile? Still have the 50% miss chance, but at least others would know where to aim.

DM Ranginui |

Glitterdust last 3 rounds off a scroll. Minimum CL 3rd to scribe.
I rolled up perceptions, inits, and put up a combat map. Leastries up.

DM Ranginui |

The cheap way to learn spells as a wizard is to pay another wizard to copy from their spellbooks, as per core rulebook. Costs 50% of the scribing costs to pay for the copying privileges. Scrolls can be painful to copy from, given the price. Unfortunately, no wizards in this particular town to scribe from :P

I do believe you got my init and my perception crossed. No matter. Only difference is I tie with Guilford, and that's barely worth mentioning. Not much one can do with a roll of 2 for Init, haha. Combat time!

This weekend I am helping run the Winter Camporee for the local Boy Scout District. I MIGHT (depending on when I leave work) try to make a post Friday before I head out to the campsite, but I won't be back until Sunday.

DM Ranginui |

:P RP, RP, RP, Combat! ...and run away. I hate it when that happens as a player :(. Where's a paladin when you need one?

![]() |

Or someone with remove fear. But no worries, I'm used to it. I (almost) always play characters with good will saves, but I always fail (100% rate in PFS) when it's a fear effect. Twice with my oracle, once with Shandor so far.

DM Ranginui |

Ring of Sublime isn't a terrible purchase, although I interpret it to be only the +4 to morale vs fear, not the suppression effect.

![]() |

For mechanics clarity's sake, the two who failed and ran already are well further than 35' out, yes?
As it happens, Remove Fear is one of Chuurock's stock prepared spells.
I'll make a short post about intent, assuming they are out fo range before I get to act.

![]() |

I'm unclear if I have to take a run action or if two move actions would be okay. RP-wise it make sense that you'd run, but it would also be careless.
Edit - Nevermind, found the answer:
Panicked: A panicked creature must drop anything it holds and flee at top speed from the source of its fear, as well as any other dangers it encounters, along a random path. It can't take any other actions. In addition, the creature takes a –2 penalty on all saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks. If cornered, a panicked creature cowers and does not attack, typically using the total defense action in combat. A panicked creature can use special abilities, including spells, to flee; indeed, the creature must use such means if they are the only way to escape.
Panicked is a more extreme state of fear than shaken or frightened.

So that's a run, then? In which case, 60 ft of movement for me. Though unsure if I've actually gone yet.

Checked. Yup, I'm gone, hahaha.

Not that I want to complain, because anything we do t let Leastrie finish this thing is fine by me, but how exactly does the order of things work?
So Leastrie fails the Will save on the satyr's turn, right? Meaning that at the start of his next turn he needs to flee at top speed. So Chuurock sees him start to run and casts his spell, but Leastrie's running during the casting time? Then turns around and moves back and attacks?
I'm still pretty new PF-wise, and I do GM sometimes so I was curious how it worked. I was also in a game recently where our whole group pretty much got stuck in panicked for awhile, so that sucked...

![]() |

I am not sure exactly. I thought Leastrie made his save on his turn. But even if he made it on the satyr's turn, he technically doesn't start running until his spot in initiative. Since Chuurock readied, his action interrupts and happens before Leastrie's, so Leastrie would not start to run. *My take anyways*
More accurately, Leastrie would begin to show signs of bolting at which point, Chuu's spell interrupts.

![]() |

I may also point out that part of panicked is you drop what you're holding. So if the ready is if he starts to run, is the spell cast before or after he dropped his weapon?
That said, good luck Leastrie!

DM Ranginui |

I posted my ruling. I'll let you get the attack, but it will be with your other blade and it will be a normal attack.
Everyone is up.

![]() |

Do you need Baldwyn and I to post that we're running? ;-)

![]() |

Oh, note: I can see but can't move things on maps, given my mobile-posting dependency. I try to be as clear as possible on location and movement. If I'm unclear, please ask or just guesstimate. Thanks!

DM Ranginui |

Chuurock Bin Ausk and Leastrie are up, currently.
I'll go ahead and npc Chuurock over the weekend to keep things moving in case of additional combat, since hustonj will be out. Hustonj, if you have specific instructions let me know (like "Run screaming, unarmed straight at the enemy")

GM, I just wanted to be clear on an issue - doesn't come up much for me because I don't often play casters.
If I use a ranged touch spell, do the normal ranged attack penalties/AC bonus apply, such as cover and shooting into melee?

![]() |

I'm not the GM, but I can attest that Ranged Touch Attacks are still Ranged Attacks, and follow all the rules you mentioned (and thus benefit from feats like Point Blank Shot and Precise Shot.)
-Posted with Wayfinder

DM Ranginui |

Yes , penalties apply as do bonuses to hit from spells/bards, etc. You can crit with rays (x2).
If it specifically calls out ray, you can also apply damage bonuses from such effects. This is a recent ruling by SKR. You can take weapon focus, improved crit and such.
If you carry a flask of the same energy type as a cantrip, you typically get a bonus of +1 to the damage (ie flask of ice + ray of frost -> +1 damage) This is from adventurer's armory.

DM Ranginui |

It depends on what spells you focus on.
Spells that would benefit include ray of enfeeblement, snowball, acid arrow, scorching ray, polar ray, enervation, and disintegrate; if you focus on these you would want to pick up point blank and precise shot.
If you're focusing on save related spells, spell focus is more important.
Either way, you'll want to save feats for spell penetration feats, and maybe spell specialization and metamagic feats.

DM Ranginui |

Guilford will want to make a planes and nature check when he gets back online.
Was there any final decision on the the scrolls?

DM Ranginui |

I don't know! With his first rhyme he told you what Ilquis is. That seems helfpul ;)
Your two knowledge monkeys just happened to roll poorly to identify the clue, and the npc (who has the right knowledge as one of her few skills - bloodline skill for fey sorcerers and all) just happened to roll well.

Guys, just bookmark this post; The innkeeper is clearly a diviner, do ho ho.

Or its just a huge coincidence that both of them mentioned candles in what is likely the "helpful" part of the rhymes.

![]() |

"If shadows consume the land,
One must bring one's own light.
A candle in hand
Will keep out the night."
"He who stumbles around in darkness with a stick is blind. But he who sticks out in darkness is fluorescent."

DM Ranginui |

I am respectfully waiting for the party's next move regarding the next plan of action... not to mention what they do with the Satyr.

DM Ranginui |

The chandler had two levels you saw as you passed, storefront/living area and loading bay/production area.

Shall we do a list of clues? Feel free to add anything you'd like to the following:
- Check up on the Baroness (done)
- Solve the mystery behind Tallowthroat.
- Find out about the disappearances.
- Find out why the Baron acts strangely and his wife doesn't seem to react much.
- Inquire at Miklos's, the local priest.
- Ask Catalina (the candlemaker) about Irini, who disappeared. Tell her that Gavril says hello and worries about her.
- Inquire at Nadia Witch-Hair (done) -> (followup) Find out about the satyr's friend, the Lurker in the Light. -> At the candlemaker?
