By the way, I just switched over to HeroLab and while I like it 95% of the time it is not friendly to Ali. First of all, Magicians aren't supported well; you learn a wizard/sorcerer spell every few levels but this ability doesn't work in HeroLab and it instead just gives you an extra known spell-you then have to go into the editor and make a copy of the spell you want but add it to the "Magician domain." I have tried this several times and it doesn't seem to work for me so if anyone has any tips to make it work, please share.
Also, I know that you can't enhance unique/named magical armors/weapons, but I was under the impression that nonmagical unique/named armor (like Elven Chain) could be enhanced but HeroLab doesn't seem to support this so I had to create a custom magical item that was equivalent to Elven Chain and then give Ali a permanent adjustment in proficiency in medium armors to make up for the fact that he should be able to wear Elven Chain without penalty.
Ok, just wanted to make the GM aware of anything that might be weird with Ali's sheet and I think that's it. If any HeroLab aficionados are out there that can help me solve the above problems more effectively, let me know.

A Wild Bold Strider has appeared!
I am currently running through this on another character, but will gladly play through this to get it off the ground. (No credit needed).

I can't make up my mind between my Tengu who thinks he is a Phoenix and my haunted Oracle.
EF I am copying this from Herolab.
This ability will only add available slots to the spells known. It does yet allow the selection of spells for those slots from other lists. Specific spells can be created using the editor - create a copy of the spell you wish to allow, uncheck all the existing "Classes/Domains" entries, and select "Magician" as a new "Classes/Domains" entry, and save and test the spell.
I have had issues with my card caster Magus where I have to list a javelin to get the stats for my harrowing card.

@Kyshkumen: Thanks, I've already seen that though and those are the exact directions I've been following. I've gone into the editor, copied Magic Missile, selected it as a Magician spell and deselected it from the other classes/domains, and saved it but it must not be saving properly. I got it to work once but then HeroLab updated and it disappeared. I'm not sure what's wrong, maybe I'm saving it in the wrong place.

Hi everybody,
I don't have an in-tier character, but I'd like to join you as a Pre-gen.
I just want to see if you guys are okay with that and if so, what does the party need? I was thinking of trying out one of the new classes - the warpriest pregen looks fun, or the investigator.
I'd like to apply this to my character that has played through Thornkeep 1 and 2 for DM Rah, but she's currently investigating a missing person in Ravenmoor. She's a fighter, so the Fighter Pregen would be a reasonable choice as well.
Alternately, if we need a healer, I'm not against bringing in Kyra.

Any of those would be fine I think. Ali can cast cure spells and use wands at least if we need healing. The investigator and warpriest can both heal themselves and use wands too, which is nice.
I highly recommend the investigator if you like skill-monkeys; it's probably one of my favorite classes. But the magus is also one of my favorite classes and the warpriest is basically the divine answer to the magus. I haven't tried the warpriest yet but I have a Warpriest of Horus waiting to be tested (mostly because I wanted a khopesh-wielding PFS character).

I think I'll go with the warpriest, then. The pregen is a half-orc, so it almost seems like a spiritual successor to my beloved Frunobulax that met his maker - at the hands of a magus. So, playing a half-orc divine version of a magus really appeals to me.
Plus, have you seen the illustration for him? It took me a while to figure out that hunk of metal at the end of the chain in his right hand is Gorum's holy symbol. That should be listed as a weapon!

Thorgrim can do whatever.

Sounds good.

Revenge... >.>

![]() |

I've played it. Just wrapped it up. Haven't ran it. Will still take credit after using a GM star, I think.

![]() |

Hopefully it will be great for Thorgrim. He is my complete embodiment of a Bold Strider.

Heads up: I'll be on a work trip from tomorrow afternoon to Monday night. I think I'll still be able to post at least once/day but just in case I'm holding things up, feel free to bot me.

Sharing the link since I know a lot of us PbP GM. Not sure if everyone has seen it or not. Painlord's Guide to PbP GMing.

![]() |

It's a good link. Lots of good advice for new GMs and old GMs (I would think).

Signboy77 |

I've tried to follow his advice, and I feel like I mostly have - but I know I get lazy a lot of times and end up with just the most perfunctory description of actions sometimes.
I've found that I kind of have ebbs and flows with how engaged I am with particular characters - and that effects how detailed I am on the boards in PbP.
I plan to start GM-ing on the boards in a couple of months - once I get more comfortable with my schooling routine, and I'll definitely give Painlord's posts a few read-throughs beforehand.

Yeah, I've been aware of all of his guides. This one is the most recent I think and I must have missed it. His advice is always spot-on. It's funny that I almost messaged him a couple months ago to offer to help write a guide for PbP GMs but then got too busy and forgot about it. Seems he was already thinking about it.

It's even funnier that I almost sent it to you for a proof read and think through before I published. ;)
However, it was pushing 18 pages in word and this thread made me cry so I 'rushed' the post so I could eat turkey and not worry about it no more.
Glad you agree with it, EF.

Also, count me in!
Then again, I think I've killed two of your characters so maybe I shouldn't be so quick to jump into one of your games. . . . ;)

Okay, so... definitely no more swords.
GM, I was thinking of using Oloch's holy symbol of Gorum as an improvised weapon? From the picture that's provided on the pre-gen sheet, it looks to be about the size of half a cinder block, and it is made of iron - can I justify that it does blunt damage?
Would 1d8 or 1d6 be more appropriate?
I'll hold my action for now.

Regarding the mi-go, this creature is deadly, but I believe that many interpretations of its combat abilities are ridiculous and can easily lead to unintended TPK. One person did the math and pointed out that playing the creature using a liberal interpretation of its abilities (with average attack rolls) could outright kill a 5th level melee-oriented character in 1 round.
I'm going with a slightly more conservative interpretation, based on a post by James Jacobs himself (who designed the thing). Even so, it can still be deadly, as can be seen in Thorgrim's case right now.
