GM Mjolbeard |
Welcome and thanks for signing up for this run of In Wrath's Shadow, folks!
First off, I'd like to introduce myself a bit to those of you who haven't played with me before. I'm GM Mjolbeard. I've been playing PFS for a little over 2 years now, much of which has included PBP as a venue. I highly value the game, and love to do as much as I can to throw in a lot of role-play with my roll-play, as the saying goes. With that in mind, here are a few expectations that I will hold for myself as well as my players in this game:
1) Please try to maintain a posting rate of 1+ post/weekday. Weekends are almost always busier for me than weekdays in one way or another, so I may or may not post during that timeframe. I'd accept the same from you. Within those posting rates, I'd love to see as much role-play from each of you as you feel comfortable with. Particularly good role-play can potentially earn things like circumstance bonuses on various rolls.
2) Please list important information about your character in the Classes/Levels section of your stat block. Please also have your full character sheet available in your character's profile. If you're at all unsure what I'm talking about, feel free to take a look at my PFS characters for some examples.
3) I'll roll initiative for combats and perception for potential surprise situations. I'll also provide information for knowledge checks in spoilers with the DCs listed. Please refrain from reading the spoilers unless you make the DC with the appropriate skill check.
That's it for the most part. As far as start date goes, I'd like to have everyone dotted in and getting warmed up on Friday, April 13, then we'll really get things going after the weekend on Monday, April 16. For now, please provide the requested info for your character using the template below. You can also dot in on the gameplay thread with your character of choice.

GM Mjolbeard |
Wow! I honestly can't say I was expecting such an outstanding response, but I'm glad to see there's plenty of interest. It looks like we're running a bit large for a single table, so I'll run a lottery to determine who will be our intrepid party of six!
Sadly, I won't be able to run a second table of this scenario, as I plan to run the Starfinder quest series, Into the Unknown, at the same time. If any players who don't make it into this game would like to join me for the quest series instead, I'll gladly reserve you a space at that table.
Now, onto some of your questions:
@Skivven: my plan is to start after this weekend, so that should give you the couple of days you need to get your chronicle and apply it to your character.
@Kuey: I'm going to stick to the dates I set out in my original post, so it looks like your low-tier characters will fit the bill.
Thanks again to everyone for signing up! As I mentioned in my introductory post, we'll get the party solidified and have everyone checked in by this Friday, then we'll really kick things off on Monday, April 16. In the meantime, if you have any more questions, or if anyone would like to volunteer to jump over to my Starfinder game, just let me know!

Skivven and Kelumur have some history flanking bad guys! :)
I hope we both make the lottery for some sneak attack glory!
Orophin Telemnarn |
If it looks like being low tier I have some level 3/4/5 characters who are also options: grippli ranger-3 (archer); sylph fighter-4 (TWF); or a human brawler-5 (tripper)
Flyndyngylyn |
Is there still time to join in the lottery? A few folks on here I'd love to play with!
Hey Batpony! I've missed your games...
GM Mjolbeard |
Alright! Looks like we've got a pretty full crew here, so I'll go ahead and run the lottery with Kuey dropping out.
2 - Orophin
3 - Flyn
4 - Skivven
5 - Cade
6 - Arnold
7 - Bartolomey
8 - GM Nowruz
9 - Ser Willem

The party will be the following (players may choose other characters as needed):
Kelumur
Flyndyngylyn
Bartolomey
Orophin Telemnarn
Arnold Perlstein
Cade Greenleaf
Sorry to those that the dice didn't select this time! As I mentioned before, if you didn't get rolled for this game, feel free to check out my Starfinder game, which I will be starting later this month. I'll be running the quest series, Into the Unknown. Link is in my previous post.
For those who were selected - Congrats! Feel free to dot into the Gameplay thread at any time. I'll have some more info up tomorrow, then we'll really kick things off on Monday.
GM Mjolbeard |
Note - Having some technical issues with the Gameplay thread. I'll get it worked out tonight. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Skivven Steelwhiskers |
Good luck to the lottery winners! enjoy!
Arnold Perlstein |
Thanks aplenty, good to be aboard!
Luurg |
Enjoy the game guys and gals! Mjolbeard is a fun GM!
Luurg grabs his fruity drink and slowly and sadly drags his leafy spear out of the room.
PS: Please remove me from the thread!
Orophin Telemnarn |
Many thanks. How are we going for tier and makeup?
Orophin Ora-6
Kelumur RF-5
Flyn Ar-6
Bartolomey - spr-4
Arnold knight-5
Cade - F3
Pretty melee focused. 29 levels/6 = 4.8 or so, rounded to 5. Between tier. Trying to remember the guide rules. I think that is high tier with 4 player adjustment.
If we wanted to go low, I could swap for a 3, but that would be a martial character which we seem to have a lot of already.
GM Mjolbeard |
Orophin, you're correct. The current APL would put us at high tier with 4 player adjustment. I have no problem with running it that way if everyone else is cool with it. We'll just have to be mindful of our lower-level characters, especially since there are so many martials.
Flyndyngylyn |
Cade, Flyn has the Model Pathfinder Agent boon...he's a part-time instructor at the Grand Lodge and can bestow one of three bonuses to agents 3 or more levels below him when playing high-tier: either +1 to AC or +1 to all saving throws or +1 hit points per level (for a total of 3) for this scenario. Let me know which you prefer...
Arnold Perlstein |
I'm good with this. Arnold is pretty survivable. The Friz ain't, but I can defend her with my Mounted Combat and her Improved Evasion. Her real weakness is Will saves, which I don't think she'll be hit much by unless they're AoE.
All right, Cade, let's show 'em what small fighters can do!
Also, GM, Arnold has boons from other characters having played Eyes of the Ten and The Paths we Choose. I didn't want to expound too much on them here; if you've got questions, please ask.
Arnold Perlstein |
Ooh, that's a fair bit. What's the lucky purchase? A Phylactery, or perhaps an easy Raise Dead just in case?
Kelumur |
Silly me, I thought APL 5 would put us in high tier. Anywho, my preference is to play up per the guide, but if there's a strong objection to it, i'll be happy to adjust.
All updated.

Is that a consumable boon? I'd hate to be the reason for you to burn it.
Otherwise I think I'll play it safe and take the extra AC.
Cade Greenleaf |
All right, Cade, let's show 'em what small fighters can do!
I'll try. This character was made for an all halfling game; I'm sure there are tweaks to the build to be made, but I'm sure risky fighter will get more use now that we're playing a higher tier.
Flyndyngylyn |
No, it's not consumable Cade, so you can pick your preference as you please...
Looking forward to playing this session with you!

Purchases
Upgrade +1 Flaming Composite Longbow with Bane (Undead): 2,000 gp
40 Cold Iron Arrows: 4 gp
Earplugs: 3 cp
Starting Gold: 1,598
Orophin Telemnarn |
I think upgrading a +1 flaming bow to also have bane would be a 10k cost. The +1 flaming is a +2 weapon (magic cost 8k) and bane takes it up to +3 (18k) for a 10k difference
Kelumur |
Orophin is right.
Typically when I play martial classes, I'm always choosing weapon as my first magic upgrade, but that's just me since I like to hit.

Bartolomey |
If we will play high tier I can make Bartolomey level 7! Bartolomey is pregen. But then APL will be 33/6=5.5 so no 4 players adjustment.
You tell me what to do?
Orophin Telemnarn |
I suspect that losing the four player adjustment is worse than the benefit of an extra three levels of a pregen. But I'm not really that into the occult classes so there might be something really good there that I don't know about.
My worry is we have a genuine level 3 PC, and bumping up a pregen that puts them in even more danger sounds risky for no increase in reward.
GM Mjolbeard |
Yeah, I'd agree that taking advantage of the 4 player adjustment is a good idea. From what I'm able to tell, this scenario isn't exactly a cake walk anyway, and throwing a lvl 3 character into a true-6-7 game would be pretty rough.
