Nodding in agreement I reach out to grab my compatriots and prepare to move forward as a team as Tarek suggests. in a hushed tone: ok...let's do this

![]() |

Seeing the mist appear where he last saw his companions, Isador is unsure if the party is pressing an attack or just looking to move within range.
He removes his shortbow and takes aim at the guard observing the situation from the tower. If man makes any movements indicating his intention to fight, he will release the arrow.

GM Brew |

The agents hold on to one another and slowly make their way toward the wall of the monastery. Havelock reaches the edge of the mist and can see the hazy form of a pile of collapsed wall rubble. He believes the group can climb the ruble, but is unsure of the pile's stability.
Isador, from his hidden position, draws a bead on the nearest guard.
Does the group climb the rubble? If so, climb checks please.

![]() |

Isador keeps his ebony shortbow trained in the direction of the guard who is peering at the strange cloud of mist that is concealing his companions.
His eyes follow the slow moving cloud trying to determine where it may be heading. After a moment, he understands their intended destination and is worried about their ability to scale the rubble especially if the guards attack.
If anyone from the party attempts to climb the rubble, Isador will loose his arrow at the guard.

The pile of rock looked much smaller from back in the tree line. I may have a better success with trying to fly than climbing the rubble. If we want to give it a go then I will do my best.
Brew, are you able to tell us the DC of the check before we attempt the climb? I want to determine if Tarek would know if it is even possible for him to climb in his armor

![]() |

I think a climb check can be made unskilled but if I am wrong then let me know. Tarek is in +1 Banded armor with an armor check penalty of -6 and his shield i strapped to his back. The armor is masterwork so that should be reduced by 1. With a +2 strength modifier, Tarek should have a net of -3 to the check. Tarek will cast guidance to give a +1 to his skill check and as a move action, he will attempt to climb the rubble

Isador sees Havelock and Tarek stumble out of the cloud as they attempt to crawl up the rocky hill on the north end of the compound. The wily rogue is sure he hears Caoilte utter a familiar curse as both Tarek and Havelock fall prone. Shaking his head, Isador lets his knocked arrow fly, catching the nearest sentry off guard. The arrow lodges deep in the man's shoulder. The archer yelps loudly and yells a general alarm. The rest of the guard spring into action to investigate the cause of the ruckus.

Looks like I made it. Brew the roll is +4 climb skill, +4 for strength, -6 armor (-7 for half plate but fighter armor training reduces that to -6) leaving a balance of +2.
If I can slip my shield back on this round then I will, if I can't then my AC is reduced to 19. I'd use any remaining options for action to redon the shield. The next round I'll move and attack the archer on the NW corner. That's NW per the map, with N pointing to the right.

GM Brew |

Havelock gets to his feet and fires off a spell at the nearest archer. Three globes of magical energy slam into the already wounded man. The archer grunts and topples from the keep wall, landing in a crunchy heap not far from Isador.
'lock uses a move action to stand up and a standard action to cast MM. As 'lock is not in a threatened area, he does not need to cast spell defensively.[/occ]
The archers respond to the sudden violence!
The eastern archer, having just watch Havelock blast his fellow, fires an arrow at Havelock. The man, likely still a bit surprised, misses badly, clanging the arrow of the stone around Havelock.
The closest western archer fires an arrow at Tarek's prone form. [ooc]Note that Caiolte has not acted yet and is still in the obscuring mist. The arrow lands home, striking Tarek in the shin. The arrow glances off the stone, otherwise the missile would have pinned Tarek to the ground. Tarek takes 6 damage.
Caoilte emerges from the cloud and deftly ascends the pile of rocks to hoist himself upon the catwalk. Too sexy!

Brew, I have a few questions about the rubble. Was the check made to climb the rubble allowing us entry into the courtyard or to the top level of the wall? I am trying to determine options for Tarek when it is his turn. I assume that his failed check meant that he lost his footing and ended his turn where he started in the rubble. He would also need to make another climb check to continue moving through the debris. Can he step out of the rubble, without a climb check, once he stands?
If the mist is close enough could Tarek crawl into the mist as a move action on his turn and then stand on his next turn?
The character is lying on the ground. A prone attacker has a –4 penalty on melee attack rolls and cannot use a ranged weapon (except for a crossbow). A prone defender gains a +4 bonus to Armor Class against ranged attacks, but takes a –4 penalty to AC against melee attacks.
Standing up is a move-equivalent action that provokes an attack of opportunity.
Crawling: You can crawl 5 feet as a move action. Crawling incurs attacks of opportunity from any attackers who threaten you at any point of your crawl. A crawling character is considered prone and must take a move action to stand up, provoking an attack of opportunity.

Tarek would have to make another climb check to climb the rubble but could make it to the mist cloud by crawling.

I will post Tarek's actions as hidden so it won't change what Isador will do
Wincing in pain as the arrow pierces his leg, Tarek looks to the mist and back at the archer. Feeling his rage increase as his battle mystery overwhelms him, he stands while pulling his chakram from his bandolier. Taking aim, he hurls the disc at the archer closest to him.

He dashes towards the monastery's eastern wall in an attempt to close the distance between him and the next sentry. Pulling up close to the wall, he swings his ebony shortbow in the direction of the guard. He smiles as he assess the distance and reassures himself that this was close enough.
He draws a bead on the sentry and whispers a quick prayer Desna, grant me favor

The south western archer moves toward the invading Archons, stopping to fire an arrow at the menacing looking Caoilte! The arrow bounces harmlessly off the stone near Caoilte's foot.

Havelock call forth another barrage of magic missiles, taking advantage of their wounded foe and unleashing an arcane barrage. The archer staggers but does not fall.
The archer sneers and returns fire. He takes aim at Havelock, then at Isador. Cursing under his breath at his misfortune, the archer decides the magic welder is the more dangerous opponent and lets an arrow fly at the magus. The arrow once again clanks harmlessly off the surrounding stone.
The northwestern archer fires off an arrow and the formidable fighter now staring at him from down the catwalk. Caoilte can see a bit of panic in the man's eyes as he fires his arrow. The NW archer acts before Caoilte, just FYI. An arrow digs deep into Caoilte's armored shoulder, finding a space between the plates. Caoilte takes 8 damage.
Caoilte sneers and engages the archer in melee. The axe lands with a crunch and slices a hole the the archer's tunic and torso. Blood spurts from the wound as the man cries out in pain.

Caoilte wastes no time and rushes to engage the western archer as the archer before him falls to Havelock's arcane missiles. In a veteran flourish, he brings his axe down on the archer in an arc, severing the man's head. Body and head fall together in a bloody heap.
Isadore sizes up the last archer. He drives an arrow into the man's neck, felling the last monastery perimeter defender.
End of combat.

The Archons finish off the wall archers and make their way into the compound.
This open courtyard is paved with flagstones and relatively free of debris. Statues ring the central open area, each depicting a tiger-headed man in a martial arts stance. Behind the statues are four sets of stairs. The stairs to the north descend into darkness, and the stairs on the south side once led upward, but have collapsed in a heap.

Isador runs around the walled monastery to the main entrance. Luckily, the main gate is open and Isador can see into the courtyard, though he does not see any of his fellow Archons. He assumes they are in the structure in the center of the complex.
