Let us leave the body here and return for him on our way out as he heads out the door
Lilianna Thraller
|
Seeing everyone leaving and knowing that she can't carry a body by herself, Lilianna will undo Yulai's cloak and cover his body with it.
We will return to give you the respect you deserve. I promise.
Tears still streaming down her face, she follows her teammates.
How is everyone doing on resources? Do we need to rest soon? I'm doing ok for now.
| GM V |
As you leave the room the air around you seems to grow unnaturally cold and suddenly another shadow appears!
Round 5
Rolandor
Illia
Slade
Shadow Yulai
Eli
Lilianna [-3 strength]
| GM V |
Sorry everyone. My last post didnt take i guess. And i was waiting for eli and liliana to post but i guess its my fault.
The shadow reaches out for slade.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Round 5
Rolandor
Illia
Slade [-5 strength]
Shadow Yulai
Eli
Lilianna [-3 strength]

In a mix of rage and profound sorrow, Lilianna calls down the divine wrath of Sarenrae upon the shadow of her former friend. Then she takesa a 5ft step away from it. HA, puns.
Positive Channel to Harm: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 DC 20 for half, no channel resistance

Seeing that they have created a bottle neck, the warpriest moves back, uttering a prayer to Rowdrosh that she guide his aim at the next sling bullet he launches.

| GM Hmm |
LET'S DO THE TIME WARP AGAIN!
Hey gang... As your official interim GM, I'd like to flip back to this moment in time.
Any weaknesses?
Nope. Rolandor Illia and Slade are up!!
Looking over both the module and the gameplay, I believe that a mistake was made here. There's a weakness to this Shadow clearly listed in the module, but not in the monster's statblock. It would have been very easy for a GM to miss, but it's still critical information.
E'li would know the following weakness from that roll:
The shadow is bound to this room. It cannot follow you out of this room. Since this information would have changed your strategy, I'm granting you all a retcon. Use it well.
Note, Rolandor, Illia and Slade are still up, and at this moment in time Yulai is still alive, but at only two strength.
If the party is still in the room, it still goes after Yulai...
Shadow Touch Attack vs Yulai: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
...but the leap through space-time throws it off!
I'm still looking for another GM for you, but I'll resolve the actions in this room with all of you.
| GM Hmm |
Slade slices the incorporeal creature and feels a howl of cold air as it silently screams! Because it is incorporeal, only half the damage goes through.
ORDER:
Round 1 Rolandor. Illia, Slade (slice!), Shadow (-4), Yulai [-4 Strength], Eli, Lilianna
Rolander and Illia are up!
| GM Hmm |
Rolandor drags the bard out of the room so that he's no longer a target!
ORDER:
Round 1. Rolandor (drag!), Illia, Slade (slice!), Shadow (-4), Yulai [-4 Strength], Eli, Lilianna
Illia is still up!
(I'm going to try and get a map slide show made, because I can't move tokens on V's map while in mobile. Then I will likely bot Illia, since we haven't heard from her yet.)
| GM Hmm |
Deprived of Yulai, the shadow makes his attack against Slade, but misses due to the time warp.
ORDER:
Round 1. Rolandor (drag!), Illia, Slade (slice!), Shadow (-6), Yulai [-4 Strength], Eli, Lilianna
Yulai, Eli and Lilliana are still up!
E'li
|
The warpriest will tell everyone Clear out it cannot leave this room as he shoots a magic stone at it and then backs out of the room.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
| Bot Buddy 2000 |
Click. Whirr.
BOTTING YULAI
From outside the door, he drops his stuff... it's so heavy, and he feels so weak. Still he stands and proclaims so that everyone can hear:
"Shadow! With a dagger Slade stuck it
Then with Eldritch energy Illi struck it
It saps strength with each pass
If we don't murder its ass
We'll all kick the proverbial bucket."
+1 to attack and damage, Inspire Courage
| GM Hmm |
The magic stone misses, pinging against a wall. E'li warns everyone to leave, and backs out of the room. Yulai inspires courage with a limerick.
ORDER: Rolandor, Illia, Slade, Shadow (-6), Yulai [-4 Strength], Eli, Lilianna
Lillianna's Round One Action is up! Rolandor, Illia and Slade's round two actions are up!
Lilianna Thraller
|
Lilianna summons forth a searing wave of divine energy and then moves as far as she can down the hallway.
Channel Positive Energy to Harm DC 20: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 Undead do not get channel resistance to their will save.
| GM Hmm |
Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Liliana channels and the Shadow fails its save. It screams soundlessly as the channeled energy rips right through him!
ORDER: Round Two. Rolandor, Illia, Slade, Shadow (-12), Yulai [-4 Strength], Eli, Lilianna
Rolandor, Illia and Slade are up!
| GM Hmm |
Illiia's bolt sears straight through the Shadow, slaying it outright.
-- COMBAT OVER --
And just like that... the shadow falls.
E'li Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Illia Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Liliana Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Rolandor Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Slade Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Yulai Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
You search the room, and find a scorched key in addition to the +1 dagger that Slade is holding. What do you do now?
Lilianna Thraller
|
"How is everyone doing? Do we need to take a break or shall we press on?"
| GM Hmm |
Slade is correct that rest and magic are the two main ways to handle this. Yulai can either store the stuff he can't currently carry in one of the rooms, or he can deal with heavy encumbrance, or both. Unfortunately, he has no equipment listed on his sheet, so I don't know how much weight he's actually carrying.
One of my favorite 2PP survival purchases early on is a 5 pack of Lesser Restoration scrolls. But maybe you might find something helpful later on. You never know!
So where are you headed next?
| Rolandor Thessalya |
I can't see the map...will move just ahead of Slade, checkingfor traps if I come to a door
Rolandor leads the group as they press on westward, carefully checking for traps as he goes.
perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17+1 more if a trap
Lilianna Thraller
|
Lilianna follows the group west and tries to stay in the middle of the group.
| GM Hmm |
If you go directly West, that leads downstairs. Do you want to finish this level first? The other possibility is to go NE and around to explore the rooms on the West side of this level. I've uncovered more of the map.
Rolandor, when you say you cannot see the map, are you clicking on the link in my header?
Lilianna Thraller
|
Agreed, let's finish the current floor first
| GM Hmm |
The group of you looks dubiously down the stairs, and then decide that it might be a great idea to explore the rest of this level first. You try the next door that you find (to the circular room) and discover to your annoyance that it goes one way in the wrong direction. Sighing, you backtrack all the way to room number 6 in the far North West of the Map.
___
ROOM 6: The Key Pool
Rolandor stealths ahead.
E'li Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Illia Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Liliana Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Rolandor Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16 +1 for traps
Slade Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Yulai Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Neither he nor anyone else detects traps, so the group moves in.
In the center of this room is a large pool of clear water, fed by a fountain on the wall above it. The fountain has a stone statue of a weeping maiden holding the slain body of Kassen, but his head has been broken off and is nowhere to be seen. A voice booms out from the darkness, saying, “Magic is the key!” The voice slowly fades, leaving a dreadful silence.
All the other doors leading out of this room are locked, but when you bring your lights forward, you can see over 100 keys laying in the bottom of the pool, which is about forty feet deep.
What do you do? Also, what light sources are you using?
Lilianna Thraller
|
| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Lilianna has light cast on her holy symbol, which is always in her hand while in places like this.
After jumping clear out of her skin at the sudden voice, Lilianna casts detect magic and sweeps the room with her cone.
Hopefully one of these keys are magical...
| GM Hmm |
One of those keys is in fact magic. Do you want to swim to get it? You realize that all the keys look otherwise identical, making it challenging to distinguish amongst them, or to give directions to another person.
Lilianna Thraller
|
Seeing that one of the keys is magic, she turns to her party
"I've never been any good at swimming, but I also have no idea how to direct one of you to the correct key... Is there anyone better at swimming who can also detect magic? If not, I would be more comfortable with getting it if we tied a rope or something around me while I went down. Maybe hold a rock or two to help me sink as well."
E'li
|
Detect magic is not a spell I usually pray for but I can help secure a rope to help keep you aloft. says the warpriest.
| GM Hmm |
Can you give me a swim check, Lillianna?
___
A creature can swim half its speed up or down with a DC 10 Swim check as a full-round action. Characters carrying a medium or heavy load can automatically descend 10 feet per round without making a swim check, but will need help coming back up!
E'li
|
Can someone with a missile weapon give her cover in case anything unforeseen attempts to harm her? he asks as he ties a rope around himself and her.
