Good evening, travelers!

Welcome to the Flaxseed On Deck Tavern! I am your host, Venture Captain Nalshene, and I welcome you to a unique Pathfinder Lodge… here we eschew the dungeon delving and meddling that some of our more excitable and adventurous counterparts spend their time on, and instead play cards!

Take up the mantle of one of the legendary Pathfinder Society heroes… or in some cases, villains… and embark on a journey through the world of the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game!

Note that we prefer to see in-character posts in this Gameplay forum. If you simply want to add this campaign to your personal Campaign tab, we highly recommend the aptly-named dot-and-delete method, where you type a period into the box, hit “Submit”, then immediately delete that post. Any out-of-character discussion/thoughts should use the “ooc” tags, as this paragraph does. For more information on how to play PACGuild online, go check out our Campaign Info page.

Nalshene blinks, then a look of astonishment comes over her face. "You know, I don't know if I've ever met another gnomish VC, come to think of it! I never put 6 and 14 together on that one... well then, I think you should aspire to become a VC as well, my studious friend. We can create our own gnomish mega-lodge!" :-P

A halfling wearing a funny hat enters and sits down. He pulls a locket from his coat and stares around the room.

A young dwarf enters the tavern, leaves his spear by the door and says, "Och! Finally good to get inside and get a mug of ale, my travelling stash ran out the first day..or was it the first hour? No matter, my name is Meliski and I came here to meet up with my cousin Harsk and some wizard. Once we are united together, we will be looking for a few more adventuring types to see what trouble we can find and/or stop.".

The dwarf sits down and scans around the place looking pretty satisfied with the place.

"Once this place gets hopping, remind me to sing a song or two I learned from another bard by the name of Zian Stoneshaper."

We want to start using this thread as a way to share great pbp moments (be they stories of success or failure). You can recount something that happened in a game you were involved in. Bonus points if you do it in character, though that isn't required. And if you want to include a link to the great event, even better. So let the sharing begin.

I'll start things off by mentioning my privilege of having Redgar play at a table I've been running for a long time. He definitely gets into the spirit of being Lem. Here is just one example of his "typical" turns. I always look forward to getting to read his posts when I'm updating the game.

And I want to highlight this post for its amazing proficiency in handling the game state. Its one thing to roll to randomize the cards for your exploration. And once you are familiar with pbp, you can manage to account for the fact that not all the cards listed in the BR's post for the location are there any more. But in this situation Kiya Toren as Radovan managed to explore randomly, account for a card that was shuffled into the location, and account for that fact that card could either be one of the proxies or a random blessing, and also determine what random blessing it was when she ended up encountering that very card. I've used this post twice in the time since then to show new players how to manage the game state without needing the box runner to post an update (though also telling them they can always ask for an update if they want). In terms of "PBP skills" this post just takes the cake for me.

I often try and keep notes for different games when they are interesting of note..here are a couple of links I called "Ranzak taxi service" for a scenario I played where Ranzak was moving people to other locations to help with closing and what have you.

I thought of another post in which I knew I was switching characters from Bekah to Ranzak (mainly to keep my bard back to be able to play with a local friend who I was also playing PbP). I thought it would be cool to use a Dimension Leap spell that was acquired and the Teleportation Chamber location as a Deus ex Machina to explain the switch of characters. The posts starts below and go for a few posts after that between Bekah and Ranzak.

I had an opportunity to play Blackjack once as Varian...more for the novelty of it..I admit I didn't know much of the background of Varian, Radovan and Blackjack but it seemed to make sense to me that Varian was having Radovan take up the role of Blackjack..Another cool aspect on this run was by our BR Yewstance who often wrote up a customized wrapup that involved our actions and characters..Kudos to him for that!

I couldn't help adding a familiar quote that was circulating around the news at the time and I figured what better way than to spout off some mumblings while under the effect of an echoes of confusion.

One of the players in one PBP game loved to write a short novel just about each turn and so each of them were enjoyable to read. He would also do separate posts usually and some of this turns would have 3 or 4 posts as he switched between Aric and the Red Raven...this is only an example of two of his posts.

One of my favorite character builds I've seen played is Nathan Davis' Erasmus. For those unfamiliar, Erasmus is a neat character (one who is on my short list to play) with a fun power:

Erasmus wrote:
At the start of any turn, you may choose a card type and recharge every card of that type; add (☐ 1 plus) the number of cards recharged to your checks until the end of the turn.

The power gamers (ugh) in the audience might already be spinning their wheels on how to maximize the use of that power. Some obvious things like taking extra feats for hand size, or making use of particular boons that affect your hand might come to mind.

In our Season of Plundered Tombs campaign, Nathan has combined the above with a clever use of Plant cards (which ignore hand size), Shapechange (which can change one's hand size, as well as improve some skills), and the amazing loot card: Tetisurah (which gives you a hand reset at the top of your turn).

This particular combo then leads to crazy turns like this where Erasmus had a whopping +7 to every single check, and was still able to take multiple explores and close a location!

Deck Handler // Searching for: Blessing 6 > Blessing 5

Thanks for the love from eddiephlash. This turned into a more insane combo than I anticipated thanks to Tetisurah.

The Spirit Relatives also have had a significant impact on my play, that, my start of turn recharges, and the inherent post-roll ability has also made me able to make precision rolls for all the times I need to hit a range or have bad things happen.

Beyond a full stock of plants, I've added many blessings to give me more explores, and almost all my spells are Displays that hang out for most of the scenario. To take advantage of my monster turns, I've also invested in a few sources of self healing to keep my discarded blessings flowing.

Here's an example of my deck economy singing to the point where I'm recharging Blessings to power my start of turn pluses, then drawing those blessings in the reset to burn down a siege deck.

The last thing I'll say about this crazy build is that it evolved into a melee focused build thanks to the Nissa Spirit Relatives and the Huntsman's Greatsword +2, then taken over the top by Shapechange.

We are almost done with the Season and it's been a fun ride.

Something I'd like to see (and would stimulate the conversation here) is not just examples of good play, but specifically a good example of each character. It would be a way for new players to see what kind of characters are out there and for anyone who is interested in a specific character but would like to see it in practice first.

I want to call out some of the recent roleplay by Yewstance's Hakon, making for a very enjoyable read through the post (the RP in general in that campaign has been top-notch in my opinion as well). Having the ability to breathe more life into the story as it unfolds is one of the major benefits of PbP over live games in my opinion.

At one point, we used this thread to highlight amazing accomplishments in PACG, and I have just experienced quite the devastating combo.

Playing the penultimate scenario of season 3, which has this rule:

3-6D wrote:

At the end of your turn, roll 1d6; you are dealt 1d4 damage of the following type:

1–2. Acid damage
3–4. Electricity damage
5–6. Fire damage

...which is already quite nasty paired with the adventure rule:

Adventure 6 wrote:
When you are dealt Acid, Electricity, or Fire damage, if that damage is neither reduced to 0 nor reduced by at least 2, suffer the scourge Curse of the Mummy.

And for those who forgot the lovely tier 6 curse:

Mummy's Curse wrote:
when you are dealt damage that is not reduced, bury 1 card you would discard as damage.

We decided to group up at Sky Pharaoh's Throne, which has this power: When you are dealt damage that is not reduced, bury 1 random card from your discard pile.

So which creature did I run into? Sard.

Sard wrote:
After you act, each character at your location is dealt 1d4+1 Electricity damage, then 1d4 Poison damage.

I of course have no damage reduction in hand, and I roll max damage on the elec, so even though I have two blessings (scenario power lets you bury a blessing to reduce any damage by 2), I'm going to be burying cards to the location. I decide to hand wipe and because of the location/scenario combo, end up burying a total of three cards to this madness.

After resetting my hand, I pull two damage reduction cards which are just in time to miss all the fun. And I haven't even seen how my companions have faired yet!

I love this game!
