Zootloot starts talking about the royal beard clasp he can see, and Therrach heads toward the fireplace--but the ice surrounding the dwarf suddenly explodes. The temperature suddenly drops to a painful level, and the stench of decay overpowers your senses.

Zootloot and Mavin are up.

Mavin cries out in alarm, raising her arm to shield her face from the shattered ice. Her cry quickly transforms into a bellow as she flies into a rage and converts her movement into an overhead chop with her glaive.

Zootloot jumps back in surprise when the ice explodes. "Whoa! What is this?!" Instinctively he grabs the neck of his guitar and starts to strum.

Mavin quickly splits the frozen dwarf in half, covering Therrach in even more ice splinters.

The dwarf’s pack contains a personal diary, but a detailed search shows up nothing else of note in the entire complex.

See the map link for the last entry of the diary, then place yourselves back at the entrance where you fought the winter wolf.

Rushing into the room, Darak lowers his axe at the sight of the cleaved Dwarf and bows his head to his ancient kin. "Ah sorry way to go lad, he musta been related to kings, or been one himself." Reverantly, the Dwarf collects the token from around the frozen one's body and places it in the pocket of his fur coat.

Reading the diary entry he nods solemnly. "Aye, as i thought, Clan leader. A harsh decision to make but a necessary one."

Walking out to the front of the cavern, the Dwarf squints with his hood eye into the snow beyond. "Well, back to the Trade city to rest for the night?"

Waiting at the mouth of the cavern, you find a jadwiga accompanied by one guard, an ice elemental and a white bear. She speaks to noone in particular, ”Identify yourselves! Who are you and why are you really here?”

Looking sidelong to their 'guide' Haltani, Darak rolls his one good eye with a sigh. His hand unconsciously tightens on the haft of his axe but he makes no overly threatening gestures at this point. Wise enough to keep his tongue for now he turns to Haltani.

"More 'friends' of yours? Do we need to tackle 'em like that talking Wolf?" he asks casually.

Hootie glances at the rest nad then steps forth to speak. Hoping to head off any other possible conflict, she attempts a concilary tone.
"To whom am I addressing here? It is always best to ascertain whom am I speaking too before answering such a question no shouldn't I? How else may I address an esteeemed one such as yourself."

Mavin hoists the end of her glaive so it points toward the iron sky. "We have full permission to be here to investigate the ruin. We have no quarrel, so be on your way."

Seeing the Pathfinders fail to defuse the situation, Uliyara speaks up on their behalf, "Peace, cousin. These are friends. They helped me return safely after the ambush at Whitethrone, and even protected me against Urgalaena's minions."

"Then they were not the ones who attacked your trade envoy?" Kiryena asks.

"No," Uliyara replies, "I suspect that was my dear aunt's work. Some of the attackers bore Saarbotten uniforms."

Once Kiryena realizes that her cousin is in no danger, her companions help you make camp for the night. Uliyara relates the full story of your adventure together in great detail and with tremendous skill, obviously an experienced storyteller. In the morning, she bids you farewell, but promises that you will meet again someday.

Seeing their guide calm the situation, the Dwarf eyes them all warily as he hooks his axe back to his belt and sets to making camp. Sittig through the night, he listens to the tale told by Haltani with a nod, and even shares his own, though it is clear he is not a born storyteller.

"Aye, farewell lass and I hope ye fair well."

Hootie takes the oppurtinity to learn more about her erstwhile hosts and their language better. Getting warm with good food and companionship was simply honey over a warm bun!
