Chumtooth strikes back at the one that hit him, inflicting a minor wound. Dantes follows up with another volley of magic missiles, leaving the giant reeling, even as Faengrim brings the other down.

Riori Stargazer |

Riori winces at the battering Chumtooth receives but knows Chumtooth will not take that lightly. She cheers as he brings the giant down. Rehooking her starknives to their holster, she goes up to him. "All right now, hold still."

She is noticeably stiffer around Faengrim, but does her duty fully. The crew is well aware of her tale of the shark eating her leg, she's told it a few times on a drunken evening at shore leave. Whether subconsciously or self-aware, she's a little more leery of the wereshark.

Chumtooth |

As his wounds close, and bruises fade, Chumtooth throws his head back and makes a strange growling noise (perhaps a sigh of relief). He looks down at the giant and smiles. "You were strong, and almost killed me, but I was stronger. Your chief's head will adorn my belt!"
He turns to Riori, and gives her a nod of his head, and a grunt of respectful acknowledgement, which is about as much of a heartfelt thanks that anyone has received from the Kuru.
"Take their coins, and let us move on."

Faengrim knows the tale of Riori's shark-bitten leg. He does not go out of his way to agitate her, but neither does he work to make her feel batter around him.
Faengrim looks at Riori as she tends to him. His wide set black eyes stay upon her, creepily. When he finishes he says simply, "Thanks." He then goes to stand ready to continue the slaughter.

Dantes Goldforge |

Dantes looks frustrated. "These brutes hardly seem to be the worthy successors of their illustrious ancestors. Hopefully we can still find a bounty of their legendary treasures here."

![]() |

"These buggers even hav' any coin?" Rogar quickly checks the belongings of the fallen enemies.

Riori Stargazer |

Riori smiles overly sweetly at Faengrim. He behaves pretty much as she expects. "Of course you're very welcome."
She looks around at the ruins. "What happened to those ancestors anyway? Why'd they get so... stupid?"

![]() |

The cyclopes have only their weapons (greataxe and heavy crossbow) and hide armor, which is extremely dirty and smelly.

Faengrim |

"They died. Like these here will. If they were smart, they would all leave or join the crew."
"If you're ready, we can continue on before they organize."

Dantes Goldforge |

While Doc looks over the fresh carcasses, Dantes checks around for any latent arcane fields that might indicate a lost treasure.
Checking the area and the corpses with detect magic.

![]() |

There is no magic in this chamber or through the door to the west, but you feel a strong pull of magic from the door to the east; a moment of concentration, and you find that it is enchantment.

Riori Stargazer |

"I'm not sure that's necessarily the case... could be all kinds of magic in these old ruins. If you want to be sure and you can wait a few minutes, I could consult my star charts to see if it's a good direction to go in..."

Riori Stargazer |

"Alright then. I should have asked earlier, I suppose. Though we need to scout the island anyways. Before I do, Dantes, you see anything particular about the door? I can take a look myself, if that's alright."
Before spending the time consulting her charts, she looks at the door Dantes pointed out using detect magic to see if she can identify the particular enchantment.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25
She'll report back whatever she identifies, such as if it appears to be trapped.
She'll also pull out her case holding her astrological charts and calculation devices.
If the door appears to be trapped/magically locked, she'll try to determine if there's any benefit to bother with going through the door.
If the magic through the door seems harmless or beneficial, she'll instead consult the charts to determine if exploring these ruins in general will get them closer to their goal of finding the stone.
Her consult star charts ability works like augury and takes 10 minutes.
Hope these conditions are helpful; I can clarify if needed

The type of magic is definitely transmutation (I was mistaken above), of moderate strength. The door is neither locked nor appears trapped. The charts indicate both weal and woe.

Faengrim tried to wait patiently as Riori consulted with the stars or the bones or the ancients or whatever, but his heavy sighs grew more and more regular. Once she gets done, he is quick to say, "Treasure this way? Ok. Let's go." He immediately moves to open it.

![]() |

Oops. My apologies. The transmutation effect is a permanent enhancement, and the item is a short sword (probably +2).

Riori Stargazer |

Riori is clearly looking at a star chart. The procedure takes 10 minutes which the party is welcome to do other things during that time. It isn't exactly vague what she's doing. She's a person who's name is Stargazer who is an oracle of Desna who looks at star charts and would have done this regularly for the crew. It may be IC for a character to not be patient with what she does, but it isn't a mystery.
Riori nods to confirm treasure is nearby, and gestures as Faengrim moves toward the door. "After you."

Faengrim opens the door to reveal the smell of stagnant water and discarded offal fills this low-lying cave. A wide pool takes up the eastern part of the chamber, while scattered bones lie strewn across the rest of the floor. ![]() |

Ah, yes. Sorry. Neither Faengrim nor Rogar has any luck with identification. Dantes identifies the beast as a trapper, a creature from the Underdark. He can tell you that it is extremely resistant to slashing and bludgeoning weapons, as well as extremes of temperature. Trappers constrict and suffocate their prey.
Riori's starknife's beam has a better success, damaging the flesh of the thing. Likewise, it doesn't seem resistant to Dante's magic missiles, and Faengrim's powerful blow actually manages to get past the stone-like exterior, but doesn't seem to do as much damage as would be expected.
