The head lizardman looks at Aldras as he talks, then makes a strange gurgling sound as he shakes his head...you think he is chuckling! "Blue Feathersss no trouble for Redeye clan! Hah! War with scaleless oness Redeye do not want - only reason let you stay in home. Do with Blue Featherss what you must - but leave Redeye and clan alone. You ssmart - tell other scaleless ones Redeye sspeaks true and not attack your nest." He makes a quick gesture to the other lizardfolk, and they all glide off into either the water or the weeds and disappear.

The Exchange

That could've gone much worse, but also better ..., Aldras thought to himself.

"Well, I suppose this situation is resolved then", Aldras shrugged. "Let's get going. The trail ain't getting fresher!"

Hopefully we won't have too much further to go. Bryn says. He is still nervous about the lizardfolk and keeps his hand near the hilt of his sword for several minutes after they depart. Maybe I should walk closer to the front of the group from now on, I don't like having all of you in between me and any foe we come across.

Ulan follows his brother's example, cautiously watching the edges of the path. He did not entirely trust the lizardfolks.

After 20-30 minutes, you hear the noise of several lizardfolk through the reeds blocking your sight ahead. You stop, listen, and then move cautiously forward.

Ahead in a large clearing is the camp of the Blue Feather Clan. The area is dominated by a single large tree and a boulder about 10 feet high. There are five lizardfolk gathered around a heap of household items that have been dumped on a wall hanging spread out under the tree. The lizardfolk are examining the objects with intense curiosity; they clearly have no idea what to do with them. A few yards away is another pile of swords, shields, and various pieces of armor.

A sixth lizardman is sitting on top of the large rock. Like the others, he is armed with a shield, a club, and three javelins. He appears to be on watch, but he is too absorbed in the loot examination to pay much attention to anything else.

You have one round of surprise on the lizardfolk. Initiative order for surprise round:
Aldras
Mike
Bryn
Breggel
Lambert
Ulan

"Well shall we have some vengeance for the old man?" Mike whispers as he makes an elaborate gesture. Quickly finishing his spell with the spoken word Mike slaps Bryn's sword then presses forward with his short spear trying to keep himself unseen.

Bryn draws his Bastard Sword and advances into the Lizardfolk camp. He tries to spot the leader of the group intending to make it his first target but is unable to distinguish one lizardfolk from another. frustrated he dicides to go instead for the lookout and leaps up onto the rock next to the lizardman.

The Exchange

Aldras moved a bit forward through the reeds and shouted "The dead have come to enact their revenge!" He then cast a spell.

From the South West path it seemed as if a group of ghosts rose from the ground and were moving towards the lizardfolk. These ghosts looked like Cromm and his men armed and with vengeance in their eyes.

_____________________________
Aldras cast Silent Image. I can fill an area as big a 5 10ft cubes. Should be a big enough area to make it seem like Cromm and his men have come back from the dead to kill the lizardfolk. Wanted to put them on the path near the rows L, M, N & O.

Surprise round: Remember, in a surprise round you get EITHER a move action or a standard action. I moved Aldras back and changed the Encounter Map permissions so only I can move tokens. Please provide grid location you want to move to or attack (i.e. move to J8 and attack lizard on K7). Thanks!
Aldras - casts a horrid image of dead men rising out of the swamp to attack the lizard folk. Lizardfolk Will save: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Mike - (Why the spell failure roll?) enhances Bryn's bastard sword with a spell and a touch of the blade
Bryn (+1 attack and damage) - (You need to roll a climb check - the rock is 10' tall!) moves to the base of the rock, sheathes his sword, and attempts to climb it (or makes it to the top)
Breggel - (Are you actually moving? Right now you are concealed behind the reeds...)
Lambert -
Ulan - grants their deity's guidance on his brother

Once we resolve these questions and Lambert gives me his action, we'll move to the first round!

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forgemaster). 2; Init +0; AC 17; hp 21/21; Fort +6, Ref +0, Will +5; Perc +6

We're in a surprise round right now, which means we can only spend a standard or move action, not both. Readying an action is a standard action so you can't do anything else (aside from free actions such as a 5ft step). Alternatively, you could simply move and nothing else (aside from free actions, such as draw a weapon).

Mike moves it I-14 and throws his short spear at the lizard on top of the rock before taking his free 5 to move back to 1-15 into the reeds trying to stay out of sight. Might provide some concealment?

attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Mike jumps up and rushes forward with his spear held above his head. As he reaches the edge of the reeds he plants his foot and launches his spear with all his might at the lizardfolk sitting atop the rock. He hopes the impact will dislodge the creature from his advantageous position. While his spear is still in mid air Mike skilfully slinks back into the reeds preparing to draw his bow.

Round 1
Aldras - Moves forward in the reeds and concentrates on his illusion. Unfortunately, the lizardflok aren't fooled by the ghostly images and focus entirely on your party...
Mike - rushes forward and throws his javelin at the lizard on the rock, missing it. (You can move 5 feet in any round when you don't perform any other kind of movement. Also, I-14/15 are in the swamp water so put you on J-14 instead)
Bryn (+1 attack and damage) - Moves around the large boulder and hacks down the first lizardman he sees, killing it instantly!
Breggel (+1 to next roll of your choice) - Moves up next to Bryn and severely wounds the other lizardman standing in front of them.
Lizardfolk -Two lizardfolk move to either side of their fellows and attack Bryn and Breggel with their morningstars.
Attacking Bryn: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

@GM, the spell description says you need to interact with the silent image before you get your will save.

Mike slumps as he watches his spear sail wide and land somewhere in the marsh behind. I don't think i have hit anything the whole campaign :( Mike moves quickly to get to the flank looking for the best opportunity to cast offensively to try and even the numbers out. Finding his spot he pulls out the appropriate components from one of his many pockets. A burst of colored dust rushes from his hand and engulfs two of the monsters.

Shocked by the attack, Breggel gasps as the lizardmen somehow finds a chink in his armour and exploits it to his detriment. The dwarf strikes back at his tormentor almost automatically, swinging his hammer up to end the creature's life.

Attack-Melee: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Added in damage from swamp gas explosion to the combat map...I forgot that earlier! @ Aldras: Yep, saw that. I've interpreted 'interact' rather broadly, I'm afraid. You get full credit for the thought!!

Lambert - (Autobot) Lambert casts magic stone on three of his sling stones.
Ulan - moves up behind Bryn and Breggel.
=====================================================================
Round 2
>Aldras<
Mike - moves up close to Breggel and casts color spray, knocking two of the lizardfolk unconscious for 2 rounds! Lizardfolk will save DC(11): 1d20 ⇒ 2 #rounds: 2d4 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2
Bryn (+1 attack and damage) - swing and a miss!
Breggel - Breggel makes a powerful attack, killing the recently rendered unconscious lizardman in front of him!
Lizardfolk -
Lambert -
Ulan -

The Exchange

Aldras changed his plans when he saw that the lizardfolk didn't react to the ghostly army.
He stepped forward out of the reeds and used his arcane power to create a patch of grease, trying to make the lizardfolk stumble and fall.

Stops concentrating on the silent image, 5ft steps to K15 and casts grease on the 10ft area of I10,I11,J10,J11. DC13 Reflex save or they fall.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forgemaster). 2; Init +0; AC 17; hp 21/21; Fort +6, Ref +0, Will +5; Perc +6

It's the lizardfolk's turn isn't it?

That's what I see.

sorry folks...been super busy =(

Aldras casts his spell at the lizardman on top of the rock to try and take him out of the fight. It also oozes onto the other lizardman behind the rock.
Lizardfolk: One decides this fight isn't worth dying over, and disappears into the murky waters. (K11 leaving the map)
Somehow the other two sure-footed creatures maintain their balance and continue their attack.

Ulan backs off slightly, giving himself some space between him and the lizardfolk on the rock. Now in a better position, he tries to heal Breggel of his wounds (5ft step to G12)
Cure Light Wounds (spontaneously casting, dropping Lead Blades): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Of course.

Casting true strike on myself. Just verbal component so no spell failure chance. I will also be drawing my bow.

Mike annoyed with the lizard on the rock decides it's time he gets his. Especially after throwing one of his javelins. Shouting out the words for his spell Mike pulls out his bow and takes aim at the monster.

Attack-Ranged: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

The Exchange

I think Mike is up still before the lizardfolk right?

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forgemaster). 2; Init +0; AC 17; hp 21/21; Fort +6, Ref +0, Will +5; Perc +6

I think Mike already acted for this round (casting true strike). If I'm right, then it's Lizardfolk turn.

Round 3
Aldras- Moves up into a threatening position while avoiding the grease spot.
Mike- casts an arcane spell and takes aim at the lizardfolk
Bryn (+1 attack and damage)- strikes the lizardman at the base of the rock, slicing through his guard
Breggel- throws an axe at the lizardman atop the boulder, but his injuries cause him to mis-throw and the axe bounces off of the rock
Lizardfolk- One lizardman is still unconscious on the ground (F10). The one on the rock throws his last javelin at Breggel, trying to finish him off. Ranged attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21 damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 crit?: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 The javelin hits home, disabling Breggel!
The one on the ground engages Bryn in mortal combat. attacking Bryn: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16 damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Lambert-

No rolling for crit confirmation?

Again, Lambert loads his sling and tries to fire at the lizardman atop the rock.

Attack: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (5) - 3 = 2

...and once again displays a lack of ranged prowess.

Male Dwarf Cleric (Forgemaster). 2; Init +0; AC 17; hp 21/21; Fort +6, Ref +0, Will +5; Perc +6

Damn, the dice really hate Breggel
Ulan watches his brother get hammered with horror. He makes a quick prayer to Torag and heals his brother again.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Breggel is restored to 6hp.

The Exchange

Not that it really matters as it still would've missed, but why are you shooting at -3 with the sling? The one on top is not engaged in melee (else he would have taken several attacks of opportunity for throwing his javelin already) and don't forget that with magic stone your bullets give you +1 to attack and damage and the base damage of them becomes 1d6 instead of 1d4. So in your case that would be a total of +2 to attack and 1d6+2 damage

Round 4
"Bryn, don't you want to fight in the shade?" Aldras said to Bryn after slicing at the lizardfolk between him and Bryn.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

crit confirmation: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
extra damage if confirmed: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Bluff to deliver secret message: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

Secret message to Bryn DC 27 sense motive to read if not Bryn:

"Flank the bugger!"

Speaking is a free action, it takes twice as long to deliver a secret message then it normally takes to relay the message. Not certain whether it becomes an action at all, but would like to know for future reference (I currently still have my move & swift action, so should be ok.)

I was unsure of how the height difference would manage things and figured I'd raise the question if I had decent dice rolls. However, my rolls have been crap so I've not bothered to pursue clarification.

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stone Lord) 1; Init +2; AC 18/12/16; Hp 5/12; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +2; Perc +4

Falling to his knee, Breggel again feels the warmth of his god enter and heal his wounds. He nods and smiles his thanks to his brother, then loosens his second throwing axe and fires it at the lizardman on the rock, adding a short prayer to Torag as he releases it.

Attack-Ranged: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

Yeah, many of my characters suffer from bad dice...see, this is the perfect time to have a Dorn Dergar..lol
