Lackey kicking the skull through the window was awesome. I saw it in my mind and heard the crowd roar. LOL Not for nothing, but Cody had a Snotball player too remember? He used to wear a helmet everywhere and didnt he get some dwarven made "spring boots" that he fumbled on one time?
I'm also glad to see that everyone is posting more and enjoying the game more. I guess my segway helped get everyone back on track and help Gabe "take it away" again. Good because I would have been REALLY disappointed if this PBP ended in its infancy. I think its a GREAT way to play and I'm enjoying it thoroughly.
ALSO: I have not been focusing nearly ANYTHING on my character advancements...maybe because I just seem them as storybook characters and not actual RPG characters. I'm going to use the weekend to go back through all the post (back until I started) and gather up my XP and spend during the weekend.
Lastly: I have to say that though Gabes new combat rules kind of confused me (dont understand why...maybe because it was a bunch of stuff in one post)...I think they work really well and are a great alternative to our former rules. I think they speed up combat significantly AND I like that it is just as deadly as our other rules (maybe more so :-/)
Have a great weekend everyone.

I had almost forgotten about Cody's Snotball player! He was a great character. I always wanted to do more with Snotball story lines in Warhammer but never managed to pull it off. It's fun stuff.
And I agree with Dagon. Things have really started to pick up and I'm enjoying the story a lot. Dagon's been doing a good job of keeping me honest in emails, bouncing things off me and helping me keep the story simple and to the true spirit of Warhammer. We've had some confusion here and there, but I think it's more based on me not properly explaining my vision rather than overlooking details. I always try to ground things in "reality" and avoid Dungeons and Dragons type scenarios: "The cup on the table attacks you!" It's just a learning process with the new PBP rules. We're getting used to it.
I'm also glad you guys like the new combat rules. I think they are working pretty well. It's not perfect, but it enables us to resolve things fast and it still feels pretty epic. It was tough to post back and forth at rapid fire speed to keep combat going. I have some other ideas as well that I'll be tossing at you guys in the next encounters.
I should have something up about Wolfenburg here soon. An intro scenario so to speak. Have a fun weekend all :)

GM Drachenfels |

I'm glad you liked it, Stavo! It all kind of came together for me as I was writing it. I was really happy with how it turned out.
Lackey: I'm having a bit of writers block when it comes to working in an intro story for you, and might piggy back your start off the tale of Lucas.
Either way, things should get rolling here soon!
Awaiting updates from everyone. Monday is almost here :)

GM Drachenfels |

Ok guys, I've written a huge wall of text that touches on everyone's characters (except Njord) and sets the theme of the game in motion. And yes, Lackey, that includes you. I just made an awesome update I think you'll enjoy!
I'll be looking forward to the well crafted updates. Please take initiative and make all the necessary skill checks and talent rolls. Take into account successes and failures and bring your stories to life. Each story is an "open xp challenge" which means I'll reward xp based on how much work and creativity you put into it.
That being said, let the posting begin! :)

Wow...how to lock up someone who can magically escape? Almost sounds like this one should have been Alrecht's. Lol. Hmmm...I may have to ask for a little more info...like how is getting out of the traditional manacles and locked rooms? How are they keeping him captured period at this point?
A Champion is like a 3rd or 4th career badass....if he literally cannot be restrained...how are they even able to keep him at all?

GM Drachenfels |

I'll leave all that and more in your capable hands. Feel free to invent/create/bend/twist the story as you need to. All I mentioned in my update was that Commander Nulner had his 'best men' on the job of watching the Champion, men he'd rather deploy elsewhere.
And apparently the Champion has been resistant to questioning because of his unique abilities:
"We've been forced to keep this Champion under constant guard. I've assigned some of my best men to stand watch, men who I'd rather have on the front lines. You see, no lock or cage seems capable of holding this infidel. There's something strange about him. We need this man restrained! Only then can we properly question him and glean whatever information he has."
So this begs the question, is perhaps the Champion allowing himself to be captured? Is there some greater purpose to be served for Tzeentch? Or if not, what then?
I look forward to what you come up with. I'm sure it will be epic!

GM Drachenfels |

Pinvendor: Also, as you follow the thread's I've posted, you can see the theme of the story taking shape in the proposed Hellcannon raid.
I'm not opposed to Lutke staying behind if you feel something as covert and deadly as that doesn't suit his character. Whatever xp you'll earn from Lucas can also be given to Lutke as well. I won't penalize him for staying behind if he can find a way to convince Commander Nulner NOT to send him to his death.
Then again, this may be a non-issue. Your character/your story. I'm just leaving options open for you :)

Oh, and I hope you liked Gretta's nod to you regarding Shallyah:
"Oh, you remember Lieutenant Biedelmann?" she asks. "I really must give him credit. I was lost. This was his idea. Now I'm found. In the arms of Shallyah I think I might find at least some peace."
I've had a lot of fine writing these updates today.

Lackey Gunterman "Grog" |

Lackey has a idea whats ahead of him but really does Gm Drachenfells???
taken from WHF battles book Hellcannon.
The Hellcannon is the latest addition to the forces of Chaos, finally giving this close combat army a chance to take down enemy units at a distance. Archon has built an army of these behemoths, his intention being to kill all who stand before him and to destroy the Empire.
The Hellcannon may be taken by any mortal chaos army and as it creates such a great shift away from a traditional Chaos force a strategy to destroy it should be formed by all regular players.
The Hellcannon
The Hellcannon is the most expensive artillery piece in the game at 2.7 times the points value of an Imperial Great Cannon.
The Hellcannon is undoubtedly the most powerful artillery piece known.
If necessary and you have sufficient numbers you may wish to charge the Hellcannon in which case you should direct all attacks against the crew in an attempt to kill them, however if you intend to do this bare in mind the Hellcannon can’t be broken and if you fail to kill the crew it will quickly go against you.
Being i have played WH fantasy and with my "Minotaur laden beasts of chaos" army face this once I didnt like it. Here are some game statistics for you.
Despite being very tough the Hellcannon is an easy target as its crew are not. Below is a list of the number of shots required to kill the Hellcannon and crew for some of the more common missile units.
Handguns:
36 shots to kill crew
This is equivalent to 3 rounds of shooting
Hochland long rifle:
15 shots to kill crew
This is equivalent to 5 turns shooting. From an engineer and 2 Marksmen
Crossbow
42 shots to kill crew
This is equivalent to 4 turns shooting.
Elven Longbow
60 shots to kill crew
This is equivalent to 6 turns shooting.
From this we can see it will be hard to destroy the hell Cannon quickly enough to prevent the unit from being wiped out. (The above statistics are from 1 unit of average size except in the case of the Hochland.)
Cannons
It should take 3 shots with a Great Cannon.
This can be easily achieved within two turns of combined fire from any Empire gun line.
In Summary
The Hellcannon does mark a large shift in Chaos tactics and may radically alter games played against them, however you can easily take precautions to avoid some of the greater threats.
You are only able to face the Hellcannon in 2,000pts+ games as it takes up all rare choices available at 2,000pts. In addition to this only one may be fielded thus meaning it is unlikely to allow Chaos players to sit back and defend and as they get close few will risk firing it. Final note this was in a 8k game and it sucked.
Tilia seems nice this time of year.....

GM Drachenfels |

Indeed. One might even call being sent in to destroy the Hellcannon a suicide mission. It might explain the sudden meteoric rise to the rank of Captain Lucas just experienced ;)
But fear not, I'm sure together we'll craft a story where victory IS an option, despite overwhelming odds!

pinvendor |

Oh, and I hope you liked Gretta's nod to you regarding Shallyah.
I did notice that. What's even more funny is the symmetry. You might not but do you remember the Thousand Thrones campaign w/ Jurgen? There was a Shallyan priestess with Chaotic tendencies who had a thing for Jurgen.
Just saying...coming full circle just seems to be the way of it in our games, no? Lol.
Incidentally I still have copies of Two weeks with Lucas and the Albrecht Interlude if you want to read them again. I am still mighty proud of those bits of writing.

pinvendor |

Dangit! I have a few great ideas rattling around about this lock business, but I need to look some things up. Didn't bring the Tome of Corruption with me to work...boo.
What I would ask you to do, Drachenfels unless you want me to do it, is roll up the appropriate number of mutations this Champion would have and describe the ones that would be visibly noticeable. Obviously the hidden stuff, like regeneration or maggots-for-blood don't need to be disclosed as Lutke wouldn't know about it so he wouldn't include it in his calculations.
Also, you said the test is 'extended' but there has to be a limit or something. Otherwise I could just keep typing {dice}1d100{/dice} and 'handwaving' the rolls until I determined I was successful.

GM Drachenfels |

Pinvendor: Hey, good point about the symmetry (as you put it). I had remembered the small bit about the Temple of Shallyah in the Thousand Thrones Campaign (it came late in our story), but I had forgotten about the chaotic priestess. Ah yes, good times!
And yea, I would love to read your short stories again. Send them my way!
And as far as the dice rolling goes, handle it anyway you see fit. I really am just interested in a good story. That's all.
Regarding mutations, I say just reach into your mind and dream up whatever craziness you want! I'm not worried about 'letter to the law' rules with this kind of thing.
As you guys may or may not know, when it comes to Chaos, I rarely even look at the Tome of Corruption. I'll pop it open for a few ideas or guidelines, but more or less everything I come up with is from my twisted imagination. A good example of this is the original time we played Wolfenburg. Remember the Gravin's man-servants of Slaneesh and their unique mutations? Definitely NOT in any written book, haha!
Also, I think it would be interesting to see how you might be able to tie this Champion in with Lutke. Lutke's been having 'brushes' with the Architect with Fate throughout the story. It might be interesting to see what kind of verbal exchange these two would have.

pinvendor |

"Gunnery Captain?!"
Incidentally the rank most appropriate would be Gunnery Sergeant. Lol.
Here use this as a guide: US Military ranks

GM Drachenfels |

Things are shaping up nicely in the story. I like the break from the survivor styled action. Still waiting for an update from Albrecht. I know your busy in real life so no worries.
Soon enough we'll be embarking on our suicide mission to destroy that hellcannon! That should be 'fun'.

GM Drachenfels |

Pinvedor: Awesome, glad you liked it. I thought it would be fun to pull in some Bretonnian action to the game.
ALSO: Read my latest update from the Farseer. I think it would be REALLY interesting if the reason the Champion has allowed himself to be captured is to actually HELP the Empire against the upcoming attack from the forces of Khorne. As you know, Khorne and Tzeentch are not often on the best of terms, especially when it comes to their disposition on the use of magic. Granted, the rivalry isn't perhaps as great as Tzeentch vs Nurgle or Khorne vs Slannesh, but you get the idea :)
See if you can write that into your story for extra xp! It would be a lot of fun to see if the Empire is willing to accept help from Tzeentch in a situation as grim as this.

pinvendor |

I apologize for the delay...I find my myself struggling not let this impending update turn into a novella. Lol!
I am more than happy to incorporate this notion of some internal Chaotic strife. I will try to come up with something clever for you.
Do I have your email, Drachenfels? I was going to send you the stories I referred to, but I think I have old info for you. FB me the info.

GM Drachenfels |

Yes, very impressive update! Loved it. Now there is much to consider and play off of. I better act quick because I know soon Pinvendor will be delivering his masterpiece to the Altdorf presses for printing and I'll have that biblical entry to respond to as well.
Good work guys. Though our updates have really slowed down, I think it's expected with the way the story is now. We moved from small events and short updates to large happenings and thus big posts.
Love it!
