The Great Enchanter

Well, I think things can still be salvaged. I mean in reality this is just a play test session after all. Most of us (with the exception of Pinvendor) are new to play by post I think so we're just learning the ropes. And it's not like we're so far into the story that backtracking or rebooting is going to break any hearts.

I'm game to continue on. If Dagon takes over (which I think he'd be well suited for), I'll probably roll up a new character and let Gretta remain an NPC.

The Great Enchanter

ODV: It's been a tough tough week at work. Maybe I'm just being overly sensitive ;)

Mudknuckles: Drachenfels isn't a villain! He's just misunderstood.

Byuuulllshit!

OK, well, it seems you guys are just a little too sensitive.

Gabe tried to run a game using a new method and it's a cool medium, but may take even MORE work and imagination than a live game simply because you have put your thoughts in writing AND keep it rolling despite waiting for posts etc.

I like you guys, but I think you all are making a mountain out of a molehill.

I'm about to abandon this entirely because the responses to suggestions have been either being quiet or being "hateful".

I'm very disappointed in that. Saddened really.

You guys are grown men and this is a game. A GAME.....

EXPERIMENTAL even. That means trial and error.

So sound off who wants to continue playing with me as GM.

Even if I have 1 or 2 people, I will continue.

If I hear from no one in the next few days then I am leaving and will not check back on this forum.

Again, this is a game. I would like to keep playing. I know I can do a great job, but I am not going to waste anymore time if it is not going anywhere.

Eddy, I'm still not seeing where you think everyone is crazy up in arms over anything?

If you want to GM, I'm down.

I don't see what you're talking about either Dagon. I'm down to play I'm just confused as to what's going on in game? I think the game's doing pretty good, myself.

The Great Enchanter

I'm down. That's three so far! Carry us forward, Dagon. That'll let me focus on being a GM for my game with Chris and prepping for our eventual Skype game.

Feel free to reboot, restore, jump back in time, blow up the world and restart. Whatever it takes!

Ready!

Oh, and I'll be creating a character once I see what you have in mind. I'll check in with you to make sure it fits your theme.

male Halfling Camp Follower

We need more CHAOS
Dagon, bring it. Slanesh, Tzeenctch, Khorne, can't hurt me so I'm game.

We started then. I will give it until tomorrow night before I continue.

Everyone is more than welcome, but tomorrow night, I will continue the story regardless.

If you are skeptical and want to wait it out to see how it is and join later, that is fine as well. ;)

Don't count me out just yet! And Mudknucles is only resistant to chaos, what's that like +5%? good luck on that!

(Drachenfels): My new character is ready to go. Check his profile for full stats and information. I had planned to pen myself in with an introduction, but I've been getting in the habit of stepping on toes doing that. I'll instead await the wisdom of GM Dagon Waters.

I have done some research into the Norse in Warhammer and I'd like to invent a storyline that suggests that they are savage enemies of the Kurgen (for their own reasons not related to politics of the Empire). I've also found some fun websites that will allow me to create Norse chants and motto's. I plan to incorporate those into the game to help build a sense of cultural difference.

As far as introducing Njord, I've written into his profile that he was a slave of the Kurgen. Perhaps he had broken free of his bonds during the fight with the Gray Wolves? Wounded, he collapsed and was left for dead in the treeline? It should be easy to incorporate him into the group. Promise him the chance to kill Kurgen and he's your man! Ultimately though, I leave his introduction up to you and what serves your story best.

On a side note:

I gave him 4 advances to put Njord on par with the rest of the party. One of those in Weapon Skill, two in Strength, and one in Toughness advances. I also gave him a head start on insanity points (it seemed fitting), giving him a grand total of 4.

Legendary Merchant of Pins

Holy Moly! I take a little time away to think up some things for you guys and Chaos reigns!!!!

LMAO!!! Wow...I think we fell into an alternate universe not our characters.

Anyway, it looks like I missed the boat on the GM thing, so my 'Albrecht's Fate' thing got retconned. Since I hadn't added it anyway, I will go ahead and "refund" the 100 XP for that. Seems silly to keep it since it isn't going to be a part of the game.

Thanks for taking up the helm, Dagon, since it sounds like my suspicions were right and Drachenfels was feeling the pressure, lol. I will be sad to see the dwarves go, so I hope their paths won't deviate too far once you cycle out your GM duties.

And what's this?? No more Gretta? Bah, I wanted to see what was up with her. Boo!

Anways...just to check...are we still doing WFRP 'Lite'?

Male Human

Chaos reigns indeed! And welcome back, Pinvendor! Much has changed *grin*

And yes, the pressure was definitely starting to mount. Between work, other life obligations and already running another game of Warhammer with my friend Chris weekly, it was starting to become a bit taxing. I'm glad for the chance to play, but happy for the break in GMing.

As far as WFRP Lite, I'm pretty happy with the rules we came up with but I'll leave that decision up to Dagon.

Either way, I've gone out on a limb to introduce my new character in the main game thread. I didn't really feel like playing Gretta full time, though I hope she continues in the story and her mysteries can be discovered.

Legendary Merchant of Pins

Hey Drachenfels....since the thread considers you the GM, can you post the WFRP Lite rules we've got so far in the "Campaign Info" section? It will be easier to read the consolidated rules there, and probably easier to update I imagine when we do come across a new situation or alter the rules. Cool?

Male Human

Sure, one sec.

Male Human

Ok, reposted as requested. Anything we need to add or remove, let me know and I'll edit it as needed.

I let my phone die ONE time at work and all this happens?! My word!

male Halfling Camp Follower

Njord you told me 3 advances wth? "powergamer" LOL

Male Human

Group desperately needed someone capable of fighting. I'm just stepping up to the role. Besides, I'm the guy that plays characters like Berthold the inventor or some unnamed lawyer from Altdorf :)

Legendary Merchant of Pins

I appreciate your kind comments in regards to my writing. I really enjoy it, so the compliments are very encouraging. My wife and mother are always trying to get me to write a full-fledged story and seek publication which has always been my dream, so I enjoy the practice/warm-up I am getting here. Hopefully, I will be able to get my act together and write that novel!

Male Human

I'll be the first to read it! Hope you make that dream a reality :)

^^ LOL

Man I missed a lot! Good stuff, I like that everyone is finally getting involved though. Keep it up guys!

Male Human

Agreed. Things are moving along nicely now. I think we're getting in the zone :)

A song for Caspar:

Brave Sir Caspar ran away,
Bravely ran away, away.
When danger reared its ugly head, he bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes, brave Sir Caspar turned about
And gallantly, he chickened out. Bravely taking to his feet,
He beat a very brave retreat,
Bravest of the brave, Sir Caspar.

Sir Caspar would imply he's a knight or anything of merit for that matter. He's neither, I'm cool with that and don't mind your taunts.

K, guys. I have to get an assessment.

I can slow down or speed up depending, but I'm trying to keep the story rolling and not bogged down on minor events (which is why I made it day....gave everyone a chance to play at night. Some did, but then Albrecht and Njord kind of went ahead so I advanced it to the next day.)

A conversation between 2 characters can take a VERY long time.

SO

1) I need to know how many times everyone can post per day (average). No worries if it is not alot.

2) PLEASE read everyone's posts before posting. This way we can all be on the same page. I know most of you do, but some of you miss it.

3) I like EVERYONE's characters and I think great storytelling has been done. VEry good roleplaying guys.

4) Njord. You do EXCELLENT, but I need you to slow down a little bit. I know you're excited to come on the scene and you are a natural at this, but I am trying to get some more involvement from the others.

5) Albrecht...I'm sorry, but you are not doing a good job as leader. I apologize, but a) you dont post enough and b) you are not very decisive.
I might have Krak and Boom start making the suggestions for direction. I really dont mind if you continue being leader, but please speak up a bit more and keep more abreast of the situation.

6) Mudknuckles, thank you for playing and I like how you're fitting your character in. Keep it up.

7) Caspar. EXCELLENT, but I need you to post a little more if you want to be involved. There is alot still it seems between you and Gretta. We shall see.

8) Krak, Boom and Gretta are not going anywhere for the forseeable future. HOWEVER....I do not favor anyone. I may not be as unforgivable as Drachenfels can be, but I am by no means a light-hearted GM. There are dangerous times ahead.

9) The GreyWolves ARE NOT all dead. The REST are in Wolfenburg. Yours was just a detachment. There are several detachments and patrols. You can find out more about your brothers in Wolfenburg.

10) Like Gabe, I will turn over descriptions, but when I feel the time is right. I'm trying to get things on track and in a rythem...

11) Thanks. Let's have fun! :)

Legendary Merchant of Pins

Lol, I must be absolutely terrible, too awesome to mention, or completely mediocre since Dagon didn't have any comments for me at all. As far as post frequency, I can pretty much post in response to anything that shows up during the day. I seem to have quite a bit of spare time at my job at the moment. Nights are harder only because my wife, mother, and dog all want my attention. I try to check every so often at home, but unless I am feeling inspired I usually wait since I know Caspar and Njord run around at that time.

If you do have any criticism for me, I am receptive as I would like to get this to work.

Male Human Entertainer

Yeah...I'd post as often as possible, but being on the otherside of the world is pretty tough. I check it at all times possible but it seems I'm either asleep or working and there's nothing I can do about that. I make posts and usually have to wait an hour at the least for a response.

Male Human

I can post several times a day, normally in the afternoon when I wake up but before I go back to bed I'm ready to post if things are moving forward. And I can also post when I get home from work early in the morning. My three days off I'm much more available and normally check the thread throughout the day.

As far as slowing down goes, I can do that, though honestly I didn't think I was speeding along. I'd offer up rolls and invent scenarios but nothing story breaking or game changing. Just little things for you to play off of when you're writing your updates.

Whatever the case, I'll read what people have written and make my post for the night before I head off to bed.

Male Human

Dagon, take my latest post as an example and tell me if that's moving too fast. I try to touch on multiple characters and offer up minor dice rolls to add spice to my description.

Like I said, I'm not trying to push things forward, simply to add colorful events for you to play off of (or ignore) as you see fit.

The Great Enchanter

More updates! Hungry for action! :-)

Lutke, your descriptions are awesome though I am still getting a feel for your character. No worries.

I am finding this a hard medium to be sure. I will keep trying though. The Wolfenburg scene is going to be incredibly tough.

Drachenfels.....no worries as well. Action coming VERY soon!

The Great Enchanter

Agreed. This is a very challenging medium for sure, at least from a GM perspective. It seems a bit easier to handle as a player.

Legendary Merchant of Pins

Anything you need to assist you?

Oh, and don't forget my description of The Gray Wolves. Of course you can ignore it if you wish, but in case you wanted to use that for considering how to plan the way the would be operating their military tactics.

I am also assuming other legions would be present at the battle(?). Have any of the other nations joined us yet? Knight errants on a crusade from Bretonnia? Dwarven armies? Or is the war too small scale for that level yet? Just trying to get a feel for how far into the "Storm of Chaos" we were supposed to be.

On a complete side note, I love the fact the vampires and their undead armies are essentially credited with "saving" the day during the Storm of Chaos.

Male Human

That last update of yours Pinvendor is awesome! Straight out of a book. I enjoyed it :)

Albrecht, as far as Kurgen and horses? I hadn't heard that they didn't use them. I know they are a nomadic people. Hrm, either way I suppose it's all the speculation of scholars and generals at this point. We'll see what kind of trickery they have planned when Dagon unveils them!

The Great Enchanter

Dagon wrote:

Mudknuckle's action is VERY important. Goota wait on him as well."

Guys, we all have busy lives. I know this! Work, school, family, sleep. But in this age of ipads and smart phones I think we can manage more frequent updates.

Now I'm going to have to wait 24 hours to do anything! *sob*

I've seen players in other threads post things along the lines of "Busy, can't update - proceed without me for this encounter" - I'd recommend we do the same.

Poor Njord is now frozen in time! And if I go to sleep and wake up 9 hours from now and find no one has updated HEADS WILL ROLL! Ok, I'm being a bit dramatic but you get the point ;)

P.S - To those who are updating often, the Gods of LAW and ORDER salute thee. Oh wait, do they even exist?

Pivendor....I am not a huge scholar of Warhammer. I'm an enthusiast so storylines and such I dont neccessarily follow by the book. It would be too confusing to me. Do I follow the Gotrex and Felix novels, modules (which I dont have), Gabe's games? etc.

Right now...all you know is that the Kurgen have almost magically appear in the north and raided the area around the middle mountains. No one seems to know how or why. Everything is....welll...Chaotic.

Your detachment has been wiped out, but there are other Grey Wolves and their HQ (as it were) is in Wolfenburg.

You have heard that the city has been beseiged, but how many or what armies is unknown until you get there.

Looked up Kurgen and indeed they have warhorses, but we can easily say this is not the norm. It's not like they have set battalions or anything...just a bunch of maurauders hastily put together for a wild charge...etc.

The Great Enchanter

^^ Agreed. They don't fight in armored ranks like knights, but I imagine they'd have calvary and archers, skirmishers and sorcerers. A rough, barbaric fighting force pushed forward by the whims of the Chaos Gods.

I also agree that the story is the most important element. This is OUR Warhammer Universe, so if we want there to be three Moons, not two - so be it!

Have fun, summon the creative forces and as always embrace the horror!

male Halfling Camp Follower

Eddy seeing that Mud has been a houseboy/slave to a Kurgan Captain or whatever for several years any little things you want to let me in on be it small stuff would be cool for my part in story ie: names, banners, attack styles, pets, special units. and so on thanks in advance.

AHHH, VERY good Mud.

You yell "YETI" and it's what these "things" remind you of (from the stories the Kurgen have told around the fires, but getting under the wagon, some small piece of sanity squeezes into your head.....YETI are usually solitary and not know to inhabit these parts.

....Are these "BLESSED" Kurgen scouts? no no no you shake your head.

You've seen few of them, but they are truely terrifying....savage Kurgens BLESSED by the Chaos gods. Their strength, speed and ferocity greatly increased and their hands transformed into horrible claws some of which are further "blessed", but all at the cost of thier humanity.

The Kurgen like to use these as "scouts". If that is true....you are all in VERY serious trouble.

And then everything EXPPLODES as the horse and rider crashes into the wagon

Legendary Merchant of Pins

Dagon...that looks suspiciously like a main thread post...lol

The opening info in the Core rules talks about the battle of the Storm of Chaos having just ended, so all the info is there, no extra books, or fanmags required. :-)

Since Drachenfels indicated that we were back a bit in the history during the actual beginning (or middle) of the Storm, I was just assuming as players it would be kind of nice to know what the environment is. After all, if we're soldiers and if other countries had started rallying, we might have heard rumors or something. I am not even suggesting the PCs know. Just kind of getting a feel for what is being envisioned. Of course since you're running things know, this could just be a massive marauder raid, and have nothing to do with the Storm of Chaos. Retcon away, my friend!!

That is like a main post, but its an OOC beasically just for MUD. There is no real way to keep things secret, but I wanted to seperate it from main forum.

Let's leave it as everything seems fine in the empire (from a layman's perpective) There are always dark things roaming the lands and dark mechanations throughout the kingdoms, but as far as a major Chaos incursion...no. Everything has been "quiet" these last 2000 years (right? since last incursion?).

The Great Enchanter

I'd have to check the Imperial calender. Pinvendor could probably recall from memory. But it has been quite some time since the last incursion, yes. Not sure if it's in the range of thousands of years or two hundred. Either way, the Kurgen attacks would (I imagine) be a serious spike in recent activity.

male Halfling Camp Follower

Berserkers don't instantly frenzy do they? don't you have to work it up? perhaps getting bonus's as it builds and not knowing the negetives "gm" discresion your berserk you don;t know whats happening just KILL!!! Then the comming down is just as fun as you see what remains of you or your friends.

The Great Enchanter

Mudknuckles, at the top of this page there is a tab that says CAMPAIGN INFO. Read that. We're playing revised Warhammer rules we call WARHAMMER LITE. When resolving attacks you roll multiple dice at once. The same goes for defense.

An example. Njord has a WS of 45 so he rolls 4 dice at once (the first number or weapon skill). Then he gets a +1 dice roll because of his two handed weapon. This gives him a total of 5 dice.

You can roll multiple dice with this equation:

{dice}5d100{/dice}

^^ Just replace the { } with [ ] as so:

5d100 ⇒ (18, 26, 73, 71, 62) = 250

You ignore the grand total at the end of the string, in this case 250. Instead focus on the number of HITS below your WS/BS. In my case my weapon skill is 45 so above I have a total of 2 hits. The rest exceed my WS.

Make sense? Defense is rolled using your toughness bonus as the number of dice. Read the thread I mentioned and it'll give you more details.

But an example of defense against the above attacks would be this. Let's say a Kurgen has a Toughness of 39. He gets to roll 3 dice in defense.

3d100 ⇒ (43, 23, 46) = 112

^^ He'd have 1 success. Since I scored two hits vs his one success, he'd take the loss of 1 health.

Health is determined by taking your wound total and dividing it by 3, rounding down.

I'm pretty much retyping everything that's in that thread, but hey! Read and enjoy :)

The Great Enchanter

Mud, in the rulebook it says I can work myself into a frenzy. It takes one round to do so. But because Njord seems relatively well learned and in control of himself, I'd like to think he only frenzies if he "loses it", hence the Will Power check if wounded.
