Hello!
I am looking to join any game really. I have done some play by post with friends a few years back and currently looking to find a game to start.
I would love to play in real time but I am currently playing in a game and running 2 games 0-0 , so I figured I would try play by post again.
I do not have a preference in character type, or in adventure path / homebrew but I would rather not play in either Wrath of the Righteous or Carrion Crown. ( I played in a WotR game and I am currently running CC)
Other than that I can make any character for any game :D
Thanks in advance and looking forward to some character development!
If Fridays work for you, there is a Kingmaker game that is trying to form.

Is this a live game? If so I am unfortunately unable to join. I already have two nights on my plate. I am looking for a play by post or play by email game. If it is one of these then sure I am in :D

Where is that? I haven't seen it.

hello i just noticed that the link i put up earlier was not working sorry about that character template

Peachbottom |

I've never played a play-by-post before but I would like to try one. I am very experienced with playing Pathfinder, however, as both a player and GM. I'd like to play any Pathfinder adventure path. I have many character ideas and can create one to fit the campaign and party needs. Please contact me if starting a new campaign. Thanks.

Boo. I would hate for the effort put into this go to waste.
As long as there are GMs looking for players, and they are aware of this thread and the linked doc full of potential players, I very much doubt any effort here going to waste. Plus the thread is a Sticky, making linked characters on the doc all the more useful in the long run.
My 2cp.
Really love the idea of this thread! Some ideas I had for the doc would be to add an Instructions tab to the doc, giving some basics for posting a character on it, size of font to use, whether to bold or not, what to do if your character is chosen, etc... with an example or two perhaps? Also at some point I foresee using tabs for each AP, rather than spreading them out within a single tab. Seems it'd visually consolidate the spreadsheet real estate while making navigation for players and GMs slightly faster and easier.
I would just make these changes as it's a community effort, but they seem significant enough changes that I wanted to bring the ideas up here first.

Well since I've been online, I have seen a few groups get selected from here, and now see that plenty more have been crossed off as selected, so the thread has undoubtedly helped several people.
Since Reign of Winter failed before I even got recruitment up, due to a few applicants refusing selection, I have been noodling a few ideas for campaigns. I am considering a few and will probably decide what I want to run in a few days. I will definitely be back here to try and pick up some players! :)

So.. I am currently running RotRL as a PbP, but I think that it would be fun to play it as well. In fact, I started out as a player, and our GM disappeared before the end of the first battle, so I offered to start a new thread. Before I go through the whole mess of creating yet another character, would any of you GM's mind weighing in with your opinions? Do you feel that this is a problem? Would you prefer not to have a player that is or has run the game? This does not seem to be much of a problem for the rest of the society games.. but I do realize that AP's are considerably different as well.

I've yet to encounter folks who have had a problem with players who've played or run APs they're playing in. Honestly, given how long some APs have been out, it would be tough to find a player who knows what they're doing without having at least some fore-knowledge of an AP like RotRL.
So, short version is, no, I don't think it's an issue. Toss in a character and have at it!

GM DevilDoc |

Normally, I would agree with you, but I am actively running the game, at the same time that I would be playing it.. in fact we are only in book one, just now approaching the Glassworks. So I would completely understand a GM taking exception to me playing at the same time. But, I will see.. I will throw one in and see what happens.

CaptainFord |

I had someone recently ask about one of my characters in the sheet, so I think it works. I think it just takes a bit of time and a willing GM who's looking to do an AP.
APs just seem to be in short supply at the moment. I recall when RotRL was a big hit to play, and now I haven't seen one in what feels like ages (which is sad, because that's a good AP).

One thing I have noticed is a lot of people are just putting characters up with Stat blocks only, and I know that if I was to go through this list to look for potential players I really wouldn't choose one that's just a stat box. because for me and I know for a good number of people on here the most important thing to a characters the background but you want a fun and interesting place through you just don't want vanilla Rouge, strawberry fighter, black wizard and white claric, just my 2 CP :-)

Dave Herman |

I think, Riuk, that is probably because it takes a lot of work to make a fully fleshed out character sheet, and some people don't want to do that for a game that might never happen and probably only has a 50% chance of lasting if it does. And i'd rather keep the concept fluid enough to adapt the character.

Riuk |

@Dave
well i can understand that but in any recruitment anyone tries to get in to you only have a 50% or less chance to get in so i se it as might as well make a full background for the Ap you want to get into. Or a somewhat completed story so a potential GM can see what your character has to offer to the game and not your build role play wise. Since with PBP this allows us to role play more than "roll" play ^_^

GM Jammin' |

For myself, I would have no problem choosing a character that only had a background with no crunch. However, I will completely skip over any character that does not have a background.
In fact, I just chose some people for a campaign I'm preparing to run, and I did skip over those without a background, selecting people based mostly on their background.
Crunch can be changed and yet still allow the same (or only slightly modified) background. The reverse is also true. So if you feel you may do only one, fine. But realize that your choice indicates what you feel is more important to who your character is and prospective gms will see it (even if that is not how you really feel).

Mug |

I would think a background in this particular thread is more of a display of willingness to flesh out a character... Rather than setting one in stone. Since no GM has set specific background criteria, everything must be flexible, concept, crunch and background.
So perhaps make a background to display your ability/desire to have a fully fleshed character, then be ready to change things according to the GM.
My 2cp.

GM Rednal |
I also tend to choose characters primarily on background - anyone can fill out a basic profile sheet, but that tells me nothing about the player's style and personality (both of which are very important to me).
Of course, Mug has a point in that different GMs may prefer different types of backgrounds. XD A comment at the start of the fluff - such as "I'm willing to make changes on request" - wouldn't be a bad idea.

CaptainFord |

I'm one of those people who tends to link the background with the crunch so they play more fluidly, though I can understand why having one or the other has it's benefits. Having a background shows a dedication to the character and role you'll play for the game, and you'll work out the mechanics later. A crunch means you have a role or concept you'd like to execute, and you can tailor the background to each game to make it fit. In either case, I think a degree of flexibility is required.
Making backgrounds can be fun, though sometimes, it's more the personality that I enjoy than where they come from, so my backgrounds vary from size to size - it's less about what's already happened and more about what they plan to do. For some characters, where personality plays a bigger part, my backgrounds tend to be a little shorter, where less fleshed out characters tend to have more drawn out backgrounds. It also varies a little from class to class - my straight brawlers and fighters tend to have more personality to even out their vanilla abilities, where classes like a magus or sorcerer will have more to explain where those powers came from.
For example, I've got an old-age monk I'm playing who's background is several paragraphs, but his personality could be summed up as 'kindly grandpa.' Another is a kobold sorcerer who's background is basically 'tried to be chief, failed, marched off in a huff', but his personality is filled with weird quirks and ticks that it's nigh impossible to list them all.
...sorry, didn't mean to make this an essay. My point is, I agree that flavoring your characters can easily make them stand out to GMs. But it's also not necessarily an undesirable thing to have a partially blank background.

There's a URL on the first line of the description that you can use to reach the document.
Speaking of, maybe we should add a tab for Legendary Planet... the Kickstarter hasn't gone into gear yet, but I do plan to open recruitment for that as soon as I can. XD
And do we edit the document and send it to you or can we edit it on the net? Never used Google documents before.

SCKnightHero1 |

Yep anyone who has a link to it can access it, and it's a community document, so everyone maintains their own link(s). And as Rednal said, we respectfully refrain from messing with anyone else's things. Everyone is partially in charge of it, like a wiki.
Happy posting and good luck!
Thank you! And good luck to everyone else here!
