Tough Glaive who Performs Feats of Strength

Action 1
Balanders scratched his head as he looked at the diagram. He reached into his bag and pulled out a roll of flex-synth. Balanders unrolled it and it snapped into place, slowly beginning to glow with a diagram. Balanders compared the diagram to the one on the wall before authoritatively declaring that he thought he knew how to manipulate the panel.

Balanders Dumb Luck Diagram Analysis - Use of Oddity: 1d20 ⇒ 19

Action 2
Balanders stayed near the back of the group as introductions were made. He kept his eyes peeled for trouble.

Female Human An Empathic Nano who Talks to Machines

Action 1
Altha was excited when she finally found something in the study – she'd figured something was there! Only it was a panel that, well, she had no idea the language of and nothing in the study thus far seemed related.

When she pulled everybody into the room and Balanders confidently announced he knew the device, Altha was flabberghasted. ”Really? That's great Balanders! You'll have to tell me how you know!” If she was honest with herself, the last person in the room she would've guessed to know much about the device was Balanders. Winfall indeed!

She sidled up beside him curiously, also looking over it herself, content to tinker away at the newfound lead with Balanders. "Is it a command panel of some sort maybe? For a safe?" She reached out and tapped one of the symbols.

Action 2
When late morning rolled around, and Altha was beginning to grow hungry for the midday meal, Anthuria came bustling in as if someone had reported the approach of a herd of Margr. The poor woman was flustered, which Altha did not think a usual thing and so the Nano followed her to go greet this Fiance of Tichronus.

A noblewoman with a floating dress and a brace of tough looking men at her sides stood waiting for them, looking down at her. Altha's expression grew neutral as she opened herself the trio, hoping they wouldn't be trouble so much as an inconvienance. She didn't particularly like the tone of the woman's demand but, based on her experience in Uxphon, it was par for the course. Unfortunate.

Empathy (Trained): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Can I possibly get an asset on a Social Interaction roll or two for these guests?

Altha found herself inundated with information of all three and stood quietly, respectfully, to the side as she processed the information.

May add more depending on the results of my Empathy check

I had to look up what a 'vuechi' was. In case anyone else wasn't sure, it's a 4-inch floating metal sphere that can attack people with electric shocks.

Action 1

Agia sat up on the desk while the group crowded around the panel. Keeping an eye out for any of the help that might be snooping around. Anthuria in particular had been following her around since she got up this morning, although the breakfast dishes seemed to be occupying her for now.

Perception roll to be certain the groups knowledge of the panels stays secret.
Intellect: 1d20 ⇒ 6

In time, Agia became distracted by the papers on the desk. "Dead words," she mused with a shake of her head, "What's even the point if they've got no tune to carry 'em? Northerner's have got some funny ideas."

Realizing her mind had drifted, she snapped back to attention. She no longer heard the sound of the dishes, and so Agia left the group in hopes of distracting anyone who might be snooping around.

Action 2

As Altha was thinking, Agia entered the room to see what all the commotion was about. Her jaw dropped at the fully armed soldiers and the floating noble. "Ya cannot be serious! Who's this now?" she blurted, forgetting the few manners she had to begin with.

Anthuria rushed over carrying a heavy trunk with some difficulty, and quickly relayed the gist of the situation to the flabbergasted Agia. Nodding in satisfaction, Agia reassured the slave woman, "Oh, that's it then? We'll get this sorted in a jiffy, don't you worry."

Turning to face the noblewoman on the far side of the room, Agia proceeded to yell at the top of her lungs, "Oy! Lady! Thar's just been a misunderstanding! Ya loverboy's not here, he's gone to fight someone or other for tha yella pope, won't be back for months at best. Ya'll have to come back then. I s'pose ya might manage to catch up with him if ya headed up his way if that suited ya, but there's not a thing for ya here."

Just Agia being generally obtuse. Anyone can feel free to jump in and try to cover for her with a more diplomatic approach if they want.

I've also decided that referring to the amber pope as "the yellow pope" is a favoured slur in the parts of the Beyond that don't particularly like the Order of Truth. Whether anyone in Uxphon would recognize it as such or be offended by it is up to Fabian. Growing up as she did, Agia has rarely heard him called anything else.

A Charming Glaive Who Fights with Panache

Action 1:

Ianaga liked to stand slumped against the walls. It provided her with an instant dramatic effect the moment she had body tension again. Right now, she twirled a metal object in her fingers quite nimbly, the metal ticking softly, like the time that was running out for them, with no immediate success to their search yet. "Well, I am no good at any of this stuff, so instead I'll be off walking the grounds and putting the servants' mind at peace."

She left with a flourish of her cloak and actually followed Agia, her distraction 'buddy' of the previous night. She seemed to be quite smart and quick on the uptake. "You're not from the Steadfast, are you? How's the world out there? I have never been outside Uxphon." It's only now that she's said this to Agia that she seems to realize she would enjoy seeing the world.

Action 2:

Carefully studying the two guards of the Lady Isalda, Ianaga tried to shake her head at Agia's outburst and then tried to distract the noble. "M'lady, a pleasure to have you here." She was tall, but the lady's floating dress made her hover that she was slightly above eyelevel. Ianaga curtsied with great experience and with the panache that seemed to be her style. "Lord Tichronus is indeed not currently in residence, and we expect him to be gone for quite a while. He must not have informed you that your wedding will be delayed? We will see that we can send him a note though, if it pleases you, m'lady?"

Ianaga tried to charm the noble as best as she could. Maybe that'd make her leave the sooner.

Being charming to Lady Isalda: 1d20 ⇒ 10 Does that qualify for an asset for positive social interactions?

<Action 1> Zyzyx entered the study with the group to see Altha had discovered. He grinned as she revealed the control panel. Numenera: 1d20 ⇒ 5 Good work. But how do we use it? He asked as he looked at the odd symbols. Balanders stepped up, saying he was familiar. Zyzyx did his best not to look suprised but it was a tough one to be certain. Well. That's that. He said.
He was excited but surprise was what showed on his face.

<Action 2> Zyzyx was at the back when the group entered the room. He looked at the finally dressed noble enter the room. She was all pomp and circumstance. He didn't like her one bit. The whole thing smelled fishy. Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 8 He just couldn't put his finger on what it was. As she began yelling for her bags Zyzyx wasted no time stepping past the group with his head down to help walk the bags in. He ignored his comrades trying to tall her into leaving. He didn't mind walking them out if he had to. Once he was outside he waited till the other maids had turned to walk away. Search: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 Quickly he grabbed one of the remaining bag and popped the tabs. Flipping through the contents he took quick notes and, with several quick steps, caught up with the ladies, bags in hand.

Action 2
They'd fiddled with it for a while and Balanders had gotten it to glow but that's all they'd been able to do. Altha grabbed a blank sheet of paper from Tichronus' desk and copied the symbols down onto the sheet, ”You think maybe he keeps the code somewhere?”

Action 3
Altha didn't trust the noble, she was hiding something... and by the time she was able to process the sudden influx of strong emotion, the conversation had moved on. Thankfully Ianaga had smoothed things over and she found herself grateful for the social prowess of the newcomer after Agia's blunder.

She did note, however, the smattering of lights across Agia's body by the helmeted one. Was it a machine of sorts? Both of the guards were utterly loyal to their mistress so bribing or charming them into doing something against her probably wouldn't work...

By the time they'd gotten back inside, the noble had decided she needed the entirety of the upper floor to herself. Altha didn't really care where they took their meals – they'd had more sitting their arses on rocks and stones in the middle of nowhere then at a nice table so she figured a kitchen would be pleasant enough.

When Anthuria looked their way, Altha looked back at her evenly. She had no idea what the stores held and this was a hunting lodge, there had to be game around somewhere. ”To welcome you to the manor, I believe tonight's meal will feature some of the game that can be found on the adjoining lands.” Altha could tell, however, that she wasn't winning any points as she spoke – at least she wasn't outright offending the woman.

Positive Social Interaction (Trained): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Altha didn't want to give up her bed, though, and spoke once more, ”Perhaps this will be of interest to you Lady Isalda, but we have been asked to guard and care for this estate in your Fiance's absence. Keeping our quarters near your guardsmen would be wise,” Altha glanced at Ianaga to help her out, ”Of course we won't disturb you.”

Retry, Social Interaction (Positive, Trained, 1 Level Effort required – 1 Int point spent), and will you lend aid Ianaga as a Complimentary Action (+2 to both of our Social Interaction roll)?

An Resilient Nano who Wears a Sheen of Ice.

Action 1

Ianaga wrote:
"You're not from the Steadfast, are you? How's the world out there? I have never been outside Uxphon." It's only now that she's said this to Agia that she seems to realize she would enjoy seeing the world.

Agia started, shocked at the idea of someone who had never travelled. "Ya mean you've never been outside of this dump? I mean, as far as cities go I guess it's fine. Big and busy and shinny and all that. But there's a whole wide world out there, bigger than we know, where thar's always some new wonder over tha next hill or new folks to meet hiding in the bushes. Not all of it's nice, but all of it's worth seein'."

Feeling oddly compelled to earn the approval of her new companion, Agia began to wax philosophical.

"A few months back we were crossing through the Kataru and we met some folk who had a great saying. I'd be tellin' em stories of my travels and they'd just say 'tha grass is always greener on tha other side', and ain't that just the truth? Ya go out and there and ya take a risk so that ya can get to tha greener grass, and once you're there ya see grass that is even greener, so ya just keep going. Stick in one spot and tha grass just gets tromped on and eaten bare by the umlan. That's what's great in life, chasing that grass. Metamaphorologically speaking, I mean."

Action 2

Despite Ianaga's and Altha's fairly unsubtle attempts to get her to shut up, Agia was ready to give the noble woman another piece of her mind when a sudden feeling of deja vu made her pause. It hadn't been long at all since Zyzyx and Ianaga had arrived in a less ostentatious but similarly disruptive manner. The gears started turning in Agia's head, and it all seemed like too much of a coincidence. More like... fate. Growing quiet, she began nodding profusely at whatever drivel the lady was spewing while slowly backing away. Once she was out of sight, she motioned for her companions to meet her upstairs and bolted out of the scene before the concern written all over her face tipped off the new arrivals.

...

Having gathered upstairs under the pretense of preparing the rooms, Agia whispered to the huddled group. "Here's hoping she's as stupid as she sounds, our heist could use a pasty to take the fall. But all this startin' to seem like a circle dance to me. The past two bunches of people to show up here out of the blue, namely us and you folk, did so with... whatchacall em'... 'Ultrerior motives'. I'd bet a fat shin that there's some noble other than Ricci who wants to take advantage of tha Baron being out, and this lady and her muscle happen to be tha noble's version of us! Must be somebody big, 'cause we seem to be outranked and outarmed."

"I betcha if we play along she'll lead us straight to where we want to be. I think I can mind my mouth for a spell, if it means cracking this open. We'll need somebody sticking to 'er like glue, though, and it's probably best if it ain't me. We don't seem to get on well."

A Charming Glaive Who Fights with Panache

Action 1:

Ianaga looked puzzled, eagerly soaking up her companion's words. "The Kataru? That sounds exotic. And yes, all I know is Uxphon, its pipes, and all the ugliness that's going on here. Though it does have its highlights, the city, really. You should go see the theater." That sounded wistful.

She worried at her bottom lip, her usually so composed and charming manner subdued by maybe her real persona, a young woman who'd rather live a life of adventure or at least a life as actor instead of being a lackey.

She added one of her bright smiles. "You must tell me all your stories sometime. Let me see the world through your eyes, Agia."

Action 3:

Well, the Lady's arrival really didn't help them here, did it? Ianaga kept a deferential expression on her face, the unobtrusive servant at the beck and call of a superior.

"Your Ladyship, your husband-to-be, who is currently following a righteous cause at the behest of the Amber Pope himself, bid us keep his manor safe. This does of course include you now, as lady of the house. I would not feel good not being able to be in your immediate vicinity, guarding you. Let me offer my strong arm to you. No, our strong arm." Ianaga bowed with a flourish, flashing her verred, her gesture also including Altha.

"I shall guard the dining room when you have your meals as well. We must keep you safe until Lord Tichronos returns, surely. I understand you already have guards, but it is my duty, as member of this household." She bowed again and smiled expectantly. If she couldn't keep the lady out, might as well contain her or spy on her as guard.

This is my complementary action to support Altha's efforts.

Not too much time tonight at the hotel so we have one more day for Balanders and Zyzyx...

M/12 S/12 I/12

<Action 2>
Frustrated, Zyzyx followed the ladies just a step behind, nodding as he past his team and the annoying noble. As they entered the nobles quarters Zyzyx sat the bag down and turned to follow the servants out but, as they reached the hall, he quickly doubled back into the room. He shut and locked the door behind him. Moving as fast and as carefully as he could he went through the bags and replaced them as close as he could to the way they were before. Search roll with effort. Trained. Speed roll to do the whole thing really quickly with effort. (If that is even a thing)

After his search Zyzyx made his way back downstairs. A plan forming in his mind. Zyzyx waited till @Altha stepped away from the conversation Or till it ended. and grabbed her by the arm, pulling her aside. Hey. Shh. Sorry. Listen. Are you still interested in making poisons?

Tough Glaive who Performs Feats of Strength

Action 2
Balanders slowly rolled the synth screen back up, tucking it away in his bag. His face furled in disappointment that he had not figured it out. It had seemed so clear to him as he had looked on.

Action 3
Balanders heard the noble insist that he clear out of the upstairs room. As his companions begged leave for this or that, Balanders ponderously headed for the stairs. He went up and grabbed his bags, looking around the room and noticing that the bed he slept on was a wooden framed bed. Balanders felt for how heavy the bed was and checked to see if it was secured to the floor or wall.

If Movable:
Balanders packed all the bed lining and linens in a bag, and then picked up the bed frame and mattress. He came walking down the stairs with the bed hoisted over his shoulder. The eyes of all those in the common room quickly rose to behold the spectacle of such a large man lugging around a bed that he could hardly fit on. His eyes made contact with the noble and with his companions. "I'll be sleeping in the storage room. The animals outside are better company than these."

If Not Movable:
Balanders packed up everything in the room that wasn't nailed down. He came walking down the stairs with a bag full of bed linens, carrying a chair hoisted over his shoulder. The eyes of all those in the common room quickly rose to behold the spectacle of such a large man lugging around as much as he could carry. His eyes made contact with the noble and with his companions. "I'll be sleeping in the storage room. The animals outside are better company than these."

Altha paused when Zyzyx pulled her aside, blinking as he asked then nodded slowly, ”But I don't know much about doing so... Do you?” There was a twinkle in his eye, though, that was hard to miss and she cocked her head to the side, ”What've you got in mind?”

Action 2

The lady was really beginning to irritate her, and Altha decided she'd let Ianaga take on the role of wrangling the noble. When Agia called them into the room upstairs, and suggested they use her as the scapegoat, Altha liked the idea but she had a few misgivings, ”But the Nobles are the powers here... how do we shift blame for something from us? She'll just point fingers and we'll be the ones to burn for it. How to do you propose we use her and sidestep blame?”

Action 3

When the Lady demanded they get her into Tichronus' room, Altha almost laughed but managed to school the amusement into a smile that could pass for joy at having received a command. ”We will get on that post haste, ma'am.”

Agia's face felll. "Shoot, you're right. I keep expecting people to act all reasonable like and getting disappointed." Her face scrunched up as she thought hard about the problem. The hierarchy here was confusing for her, thought after a week and and a half of hard lessons and frequent lectures it was starting to sink in.

"We could try playing it straight for once. After all, we're officially here at the request of the Baron to watch the house, and we know he has secrets he wants to protect. If ya find some proof that she's up to no good, or even if she happens to have a sour reputation among the rest of tha nobility, we'd have the backing of tha Baron's house if we did our job and kicked her out. And anything or anyone that happened to disappear in the dust-up would of course be her fault, as long as we can demonstrate we did everything we could." And edge of desperation crept into her voice. "He'd have to respect that, right? If his huntin' obsession and flowery word-stuffs is any indication, he's all 'bout tha 'honour of rightyious combat' tripe. He'd probably swoon at news of proper heros defending his estate's honour when all he's used to is tha bloody nonsense he arranges in tha arena."

Agia's confidence wavered, she was far out of her depth. "Though if we can swing it just using her to find what we need would be better. I'm not keen to tussle with them strong-men of hers. But as long as we're the ones allowing her in tha house we're on the hook for anything she gets into, and ya'll best not forget it."

Action 3

Agia's eye's narrowed at the lady's request, feeling her suspicions were increasingly justified. She forced her blue lips into a smile that was far less convincing than Altha's and adopted her abysmal Uxphonian accent. "Quite so. Though ah must warn the Ladee that the Baroon's room is terribly drafty. Yeh might be more comfoortable elsewheare."

While 'preparing' the room for the lady, Agia intends to use Hedge Magic to greatly lower the temperature of the room, particularly the heavy metal door which should serve as an serviceable conductor and have a considerable amount of thermal mass that would allow it to continue sucking warmth from the air for several hours afterwards. This is partially to convince the Lady to choose another room that won't cause difficulties for the party's heist, but mostly because Agia enjoys tormenting her in any way possible.

Would Altha have an inkling if Tichronus was the sort of person Agia hoped he was based on her readings of his memoirs/books/etc?

A Charming Glaive Who Fights with Panache

Action 2:

Ianaga crossed her arms as she listened to Agia's suggestions and wrinkled her nose. "Even if we can prove the lady's up to no good, who'd we report it to? Tichronus is away on this crusade of his. Do you think we should aid her and just deal with her once she's found what we want? Could always claim it was self-defense. A tragic case, dealing with a traitorous snake."

She paced across the room. "Those guards of her are no joke though. Probably very cruel as well. One of them seems to be into painful s%#~." She had dropped her usually more refined manner of speaking. "Still, nothing we couldn't handle, I believe. The way she's already treating the servants, they won't be sad for her to disappear."

Action 3:

Ianaga bowed and scraped. "We shall strive to fulfil your wishes, Your Ladyship. I shall of course be there to guard you and serve you as you require." She flashed a smile at the noble that was dazzling like the sun. Better to continue and watch her.

Altha chuckled as Agia answered and sighed, "Most of the folk here are too interested in their own survival and prosperity to spare a glance at strangers let alone anyone else." She nodded thoughtfully at the ice woman's suggestion to play it straight, "You mean basically just let her run amok, watch her, and swoop down on her when she gets something juicy? She's here for more then just the proposal, I could sense that much, so perhaps you're on to something. It just means being run ragged I suppose."

I was thinking the same thing! <action 1> If I can find time to sneak away during the day then perhaps I can put something together that will knock her and her guards out. We might be able to slip it into their dinner.

<Action 2> Zyzyx watched the group from the corner. Rax sitting calmly under his arm. If we make a move it will have to be soon. Regardless. We can't let her and her men into that room. Perhaps if we can sneak in during the night I can get us through the strange wall panel. Zyzyx pulled out a small crystal and spun it through his hands, watching the light glint off of it. This may be our last chance.

<Action 3> Zyzyx stood in the corner, waiting for the baroness or duchess, whatever she was, to calm down. If anyone can get into the room it is I. Give me till morning. If I have not cracked it by then, I will take my leave. Until that time, relax. Take a load off. Kick your feet up. We'd be happy to help you in anyway possible. Zyzyx said all this with exposed teeth. I say this this way because his facial expression could not be described as a grin. Not by a long shot.

I don't know.

I did a quick search for poison in the corebook and came up with samples. I also looked at the crafting numenera devices but that would take too long and the poison you have in mind does not qualify.

I would say that you need to acquire the materials (1/2 day per level of poison and 5 shins per level of poison) and then craft it (level of poison is difficulty level). If you fail, then half the material is wasted.

Fair?

Anyone else have any ideas?

Working on the turn recap now.

What about Nature knowledge? This is a hunting lodge with associated hunting grounds, which probably means those are wild. Would Altha, Zyzyx or anyone else where know about a small-dose, high-toxicity venomous animal/plant/thing or berries? Or some sort of tea stored in the kitchen for easing pain/injury from hunting or helping with sleep (kept on hand for Tichronus, for example)? Both of those would be faster then a half day and extra money, I think. Or medical supplies on-site like Chloroform?

Could be. But we have to be careful with poison strength and availability otherwise, you'll be poisoning everyone. :)

I need to find some plant and/or animal and see how obtaining their poison is handled. I wanted to find a list of poisons with prices but I don't think that exists in this game.

There's a list of poisons and prices for Ruk in the Strange corebook, and the "When Worlds Collide" adaptation supplement gives a rough conversion of 1 Bit to 1 Shin. Of particular relevance to our situation is that a level 3 poison that causes unconsciousness for 1 minute is listed as 30 bits. A level 7 poison with the same effect is 100 bits. A level 7 poison that induces a coma until the victim is awakened is 200 bits. There are other poisons that cause damage, with 15 bits buying a poison that does 3 damage, 30 bits for 4 damage and 60 bits for 6 damage. Another thing to keep in mind is that these are combat poisons meant to both be administered through weapons and take effect instantly. A poison that needs to be ingested or that requires time or several doses to take effect might be considerably cheaper or easier.

None of the information is numenera "canon", but it might be useful in putting the relative value of poison in perspective.

Female Human An Empathic Nano who Talks to Machines

Action 1
Altha nodded at that, “I can also slip away... Balanders and I rode through the property, I know the land a little.” She thought a moment, thinking about the components she had on her and anything she saw in the woods or the home that might be helpful in knocking the guards out.

Recall Sleep Poison (Berries, Plants, Roots, Fungus, Animals, kitchen supplies, etc): 1d20 ⇒ 20
Hopefully that's useful o.o

The Nano nodded thoughtfully and leaned in to whisper her ideas to Zyzyx.

Action 2
With Zyzyx under watch, Altha entrusted the newcomer with buying some time and took the opportunity to go try out her theories in the house before slipping away to 'patrol' the outside grounds, away from the prying eyes of the noble and her guardsmen.

If I need to roll, let me know!

Action 3
While Altha returned to the house after her patrol, an odd sight greeted her in the form of the noble bent at the waist inspecting the walls and fixtures with surprising intensity, muttering under her breath. Altha gave it no thought until she found the woman still exploring with the same degree of intensity a few minutes later - she'd been so fickle before... what was she up to now?

Altha lingered a moment, trying to listen to what the woman was saying.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 12

She was definitely muttering something but the Nano couldn't make it out and when the guard turned to look at her, Altha had no choice but nod deferentially and move on. The Noble was up to something.... but what?

Altha went to find her friends, hoping maybe Agia or Ianaga might have some more luck listening to the Noble's, quite possibly, insane ramblings.

Tough Glaive who Performs Feats of Strength

Action 2
Balanders moved his things to the storage room outside. He kept his eyes on the property, wondering what he needed to do to find Modou. His rage was building towards the new arrivals and he was feeling useless.

Before long, he saw Altha slip out the door. Balanders joined her on her patrol, assisting her with her search.

As Altha searched for plants, she patiently instructed Balanders on what to look for. She assigned him one or two varieties of plants that were easy to spot while walking around. Balanders was soon filling a small burlap sack with as many of the plants as he could find.

As they walked back to the manor, Balanders looked around the terrain he was now fairly comfortable with. He had been on multiple walks and a few hunts in the area. "If we could get one of those guards to come outside, I bet we could finish him off without the other two being any the wiser. Maybe we could even make it look like an accident. Plenty of cliffs to fall from out here, and lots of monstrous mountain beasts to blame."

Action 3
When they returned to the manor from their patrol, Balanders entered the manor alongside Altha. As the others made themselves busy, Balanders made his way into the Tower Study where they had found the hidden control panel. Balanders sat down heavily in the room and positioned himself with his back to the far side of the room. From this vantage, he could see anyone who entered the room, and also keep an eye on the stair well. He picked a book at random from the shelves and soon found himself drawn in to the particulars of skinning & taxidermy. He looked at the diagrams and dog-eared a few pages that included instructions for preserving and curing skins.

This is good info. Thanks.

We need to find a poison that is ingested/inhaled, which is what I think Zyzyx is looking for. So something that you ingest and then the effects take 'long' to start. Something to sort of knock you out for a few hours.

I'll check other games and try to find something similar to convert.

I likely won't have a chance to update until quite late tonight. I started a new job this week and my schedule's all screwed up as a result. Just a heads up that I am still around and will be back to regular posting shortly.

Agia rubbed her chin. "Yep, she's a tricky one all right. I'll try to get in close without her spottin' me."

By the time Agia managed to pick up the noble's trail Lady Isalda and her guard had moved on to the dining room. Sitting just outside, Agia strained her ears and managed to hear the occaisional murmur from the searchers, but it was indistinct. She needed to get closer.

Agia waited until she was sure the noblewoman was inspecting the hunting trophies on the far wall, then tiptoed forward, holding her breath, directly into the chest of the Lady's mechanically enhanced guard who had been standing just around the corner waiting for the eavesdropper that had been detected by the constant scans. The fearsome hulk towered over her, and Agia scrambled for an explanation for her presence. "I was just... dusting?" The implacable guard simply continued to glare. "I'll... finish it later. Bye!" Agia managed to stammer as she slowly walked out of the room before breaking into a run and meeting back up with Altha.

"It was no good, I got rumbled before I got close. Her backup has some serious mojo."

Guys, we seem to have lost some steam here.

I'm back from vacation and should be able to keep up my end of the bargain of one decent post and/or recap per day.

Please try to do the same. I understand that it's not always possible but this is why we have 5 players; we can continue the game if someone misses a day.

I intend to recap no later than tomorrow morning.

The Nano was grateful for the assistance when Balanders joined her in their search for something useful. When they'd wandered relatively far into the forest, she paused in her search to look over at him, "What are you going to do when you find your friend? I don't imagine Uxphon holds much for you anymore... Would you consider walking with Agia and I? I can't speak for those other two right now but I get good vibes from you." She smiled a bit, crouching down to inspect of a clump of brilliantly coloured, leafy plants.

When they were returning, and Balanders mentioned taking out a guard, Altha hummed at that and nodded, "If it comes to that, I'll see if I can't get one to come out here after me - by hook or crook - and I'll run him by the Stable's entrance where you can jump them. I'm hoping it doesn't come to that, though... I'd rather not take a life if I can talk around them."

She patted Balanders on the shoulder, squeezing it briefly, before giving him a nod and heading back into the house with what they'd managed to gather.

She hung around the kitchen, assisting the servants while Agia went about her attempt to listen to the Noblewoman and when the other Nano returned, Altha took her leave and stepped into the hall Agia was standing in.

Altha chuckled, "Serious mojo indeed... I wonder if I can tinker with his helmet from afar... make it malfunction, maybe, if it's a machine. It has to be storing data from the scans or data about what they're looking for, somehow. If not, I can at least try to turn it off once they seemed interested - I just need to see the device to try. Be my wingman?"

I spent 8 hours in the car today and the other 8 loading and unloading cars while helping my folks move. I have to be at work in the next 7 hours there so I promise to post in the morning once im settled in.

Ianaga nodded eagerly, whispering to Altha. "I shall try to accompany the lady and her guard on one of their rounds. I can be quite persistent with my efforts to keep her safe. It'll be good to have something to do." The last bit kept a hint of frustration in it, as being a strong fighter and a charming conversationalist wasn't exactly the most helpful of skillsets in their search of the grounds.

She tried to push herself onto the noble, offering to escort her across the grounds as well. If that should fail, she could always just pass her by in her capacity as grounds guard, trying to listen to her.

Eavesdropping: 1d20 ⇒ 4

Was she even speaking the Truth? It seemed so faint to Ianaga, it was almost ridiculous. In frustration, she later returned to Altha, shaking her head. "I couldn't make out anything at all. She's up to no good, for sure. Maybe we should dispose of them, somehow."

<action 1> Before Altha and Balanders left to search for herbs and berries, Zyzyx listed of a long list of possible options for them to use. Nights Kiss, Purple Hurp, Pekka Berries, Sleeps Shade. He went into vivid detail, almost mechanically, reciting all he could remember. Color, location, size, leaf shape. Asset on finding herbs sense I am trained in plants. A possible 2 sense I am also trained in searching.[ooc]

<Action 2> Zyzyx was non to happy about being watched so closely. As he worked the lock he made a point to snap the lockpick in half lodging it in the door so that it couldn't be lockpicked or unlocked till Zyzyx removed the piece Sabotage: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 Damn. Well. I can't seem to get the door to budge. I need a different type of lock pick it seems. Perhaps I can pick some up this evening in town. I don't suppose I need an escort for that to? Should I call you if my ass needs wiping? Deception: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (5) - 3 = 2 He could tell the guard knew he was lying so he did his best to seem impudent. As if he wanted to guard to know he was lying about the picks. He looked the guard up and down with his eyes furrowed.

@Balanders I know I didn't hear your conversation but I figure this is a chance for us to get the guard alone.

As Zyzyx stormed away he say the Lady searching the house. She was mumbling to herself as she worked. Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 1 [ooc]Great. I'll leave that to you

Action 1
After the day had been relatively unproductive, Altha was frustrated – this annoying noblewoman who spoke in half-truths and treated them like so many animals was seriously getting on her nerves. The idea of poison was looking better and better...

As she stood with Ianaga and Agia, Altha grinned, ”I'm going to try mucking with his helmet, turn it off. If nothing else, that'll buy us some time... Anybody know where Zyzyx is? I have an idea.” She stepped in close and murmured lowly to them so nobody else would heard, “We were thinking of some sort of knockout drug, I was out looking today. Balanders helped me but Zyzyx probably needs some things from in town... Ianaga, you're silver-tongued too, ask him what he needs and go get it. Agia... You help Zyzyx find whatever he needs here and help him brew? You know more about healing then I do, honestly. Between you three, we should be able to make a knock-out drug to buy time and force the panel... and just cut the device out of the desk and be on our way.” The device would have its next communication on the morrow, if she recalled correctly, and they needed to see what was up with the panel Balanders recognized... a lot to do with the busy body noble around....

Balanders wrote:

When their discussion came to a close, she went and found Balanders, explaining the plan to him as well, [b]”I need your help... I don't know what will happen when I try to deactivate his helmet but I'd like a little back up in case he freaks out – you lie in wait here, in the study, or outside, and I'll run him to you if something goes wrong. Deal?” Altha had learned well the lesson of Nanos and Glaives... she was no melee fighter and she didn't want to go toe-to-toe with a guard without some help.

I'm going to wait on doing anything else before I get responses from folk here. I plan on Numenera checking the helmet first, then trying to deactivate it using Distance Activation, just to see if Altha can.

I'll do that once I know what the other PCs are going to say to agree/disagree, if Altha does it at all. I just don't want to commit to it before other IC PC interactions occurred.

Altha wrote:

"I like it. It'll serve 'em right to have their own powers turned against them. When the time comes, I'll have your back."

Altha wrote:

"I s'pose I could help. Herblore ain't my specialty but I've made some soothing teas before, and I imagine proper medicines the same just more concentrated. Even though we'd best do tha brewin' outside where the odours won't catch any attention, we'll need some pots. I'll see what I can get from the kitchen and then I'll leave it behind tha pipe out back. We can smuggle it down the cliff when we're ready ta cook."

...

Roll to sneak into the kitchen and nick some suitable pans for the deconcoction in hopes of creating an asset for step C. Intellect roll to identify the proper materials. Speed roll to procure it without getting detected by the servants.

intellect: 1d20 ⇒ 15

speed: 1d20 ⇒ 20

Agia knew exactly which pot she wanted from her previous searches of the kitchen, but getting it was going to be tricky. It was a beautiful pot of blue metal, fitted with a special lid that sealed tight to allow for the water inside to be boiled without it escaping. A valve, obviously a later addition, allowed for the pressure to be adjusted so that different meats and veggies could be cooked to perfection while sealing in the flavour. All this would make it the perfect concentrator for the reagents.

She ducked into the kitchen as the staff we're cleaning up after the Lady's dinner and offered to help. "If I help ya'll get 'em done quick we all got a better chance of avoid the wrath of that woman. Pass me tha rag."

The dishwater was only mildly hot, but it seemed like fire on Agia's cold hands. She winced as she scrubbed but kept working just the same. It was rough work, as the lady had insisted on another multiple course meal, but with many hands working the task was soon done. Agia hefted the large tub of filthy dishwater with some difficulty and offered to haul it out to the ditch while the others got back to tending to the noble's whims. As they all turned to make their way out of the kitchen, Agia reached over and casually swept her prize off the counter and into the murky froth of the tub where it promptly disappeared below the surface. Her arms were aching by the time she got the tub over to the cliff, but it was worth it. She took out the special pot and stashed it after dumping the water, smirking at her own cleverness.

It'd be missed next time the help wanted to cook some grumman ribs or quickgrains, but hopefully Zyzyx would be done with it before then. Although... would returning it and allowing the staff to cook using a dish that had been used to create powerful poison even be safe? Agia worked over the problem of dosages for a moment in her head, but quickly gave up and shrugged. "I'm sure it'll be fine."

Action 2

Agia struggled with reading the letters as they danced across the surface of the cylinder, but the intent was clear enough. She started to speak to her companions, then glanced suspiciously at the cylinder and wondered if it was listening even now. She grabbed it and stuffed it under a pillow while the group decided on a course of action.

"I say we come clean about the lady being here, but maybe downplay tha searchin' she's doing or how long we've let her in here. We don't want to make it look like she's got the upper hand. If we get an order ta kick 'er out it would go a long way towards coverin' our butts when all this comes ta blows. And it will. It always does when tha haughty types can't get what they want. Though if we all do wind up exiled or worse you're welcome to join us on the lam, Ianaga."

"One of you talkier types can do the actual gabbin', but we'd best hop to it. The device might have given us time but that servant-man Dorul seemed pretty high strung, and if we start running up against the time limit he might get suspicious that we were using it to cook up a story."
