Okay, so I don't get confused, with the Northern Ancestry trait, also taken, that provides Cold Resistance 2, means that her failed saves bring about the fatigued condition, but the nonlethal damage is avoided, until it crests higher than 2hp/round?

If you've taken any nonlethal damage (which would indeed be if it exceeded 2 hp), you're considered fatigued.

Tsin's rolls were good enough that it didn't matter, but remember the falling snow gives you a -4 on ranged attacks (and Perception checks!). I've been forgetting about this.

Also don't forget that the snow's halving your movement rate, which looking more closely means no five-foot steps. Sorry about that.

yeah, that difficult terrain yuckiness is why I had to withdraw back during the ice elemental fight at the river. It's dangerous to be a caster in these parts!

Sorry, guys, I'm trying to DMPC Pems and I can't figure out if he *has* any protection vs. cold damage; I thought he did, but I can't find it. If not, he fell unconscious last round and is now getting close to death...

If someone can help me figure that out, I can resolve the round before my gf shows up for the night. (Also, you can possibly change your actions if you want depending on what's up with Pems -- Right now, pushing into the lodge is dangerous as there's still a guard there.)

Sorry, James. This will make him the first PC I'll have killed in 2-plus years of PBP, but not sure what I can do to avoid it.

(I even debated switching Quinn to a healing burst, but of course just rolled a 1 to heal, so it was a moot point.)

Sorry for the changed tactics...but, frankly put, we're ill-equipped to deal with the icepower of those inside.

This is a heck of an encounter for a bunch of lvl 1s.

Strange how leaving that guard standing between us and the ice skellies might have been a better play...but it might. Of course, they could have just iced him to death as well, but yeah...

I'm going to suggest another plan of attack: unrestrained panic.

If panic fails, then reckless bemoaning shall ensure.

When bemoaning fails, we should hair pull and grouch.

After that, I'm all out of ideas.

Also, I am soon to be little help. I have one firework left and my protection from evil and shield will be expiring imminently. The skeletons' aura can only hurt me if they max the damage, but that's little help to the rest of you. =\

For clarification, the map indicates 2 skeletons up, 3 guards interior, and the leader, while 3 guards approach from the outside. Didn't Mal take out 1 skeleton? And are the three guards interior truly there, or are they the same guards who have moved outside?

I understand that Quinn. Hektir doesn't want to die just yet.

If you can explain how staying in there next to those skellies in a clamped place is even remotely winnable or intelligent, please do. I'll come back and do whatever.

However, if you're staying to make a point, I understand that too. Hektir won't join you and maybe your channels will take the skellies down. However, Pems is still dead in that instance.

Tsin, Mal hurt one of the skeletons, but didn't kill it. Those three interior guards are truly there (though you should actually be aware of them yet, but oops).

Just to make sure I understand, it sounds like Quinn's staying inside to try to get to Pems. Tsin and Mal are retreating back outside. I assume Mal won't seal the door if Quinn doesn't leave? (Feel free to keep discussing; I just don't want to assume incorrectly.)

Also note that my posting may be a bit spotty this week; we've got people off at work (though I'll try to post before work tomorrow and Thursday) and then I'm off to my first gaming convention in almost 10 years Friday-Sunday and doubt I'll be doing much posting there.

Quinn's logic:

in character: Quinn would never abandon a friend to death while he may yet live and there is hope still remaining of saving him. Nor would he want to run from undead creatures, such foul things go against the very positive energy he embraces.

Tactically: we shouldn't know about the 3 extra guys in the other room and I would honestly have said we all beat down the skeletons this round and we win, Tsin can mop up the other thugs easy: I think we have one round left to make or break this thing, dump everything on the skeletons and pray!

metagaming: it's a level 1 encounter with multiple enemies, those variant skeletons can't be that tough and they've already taken damage, but if we give them another round to freeze Pem then it's done.

from every aspect, I say we should unloaded everything left on the skellies for one round, and see if we can still save Pem, then flee if not.

If Tsin and/or Mal can do something about that guard (and it looks like her attack should kill him), then yes. You could take a five-foot step forward, grab him and then retreat out the door. I'll assume you'll do that, which will leave everyone outside. Not sure if I'll be able to post the details tonight, but I'll see if I get a chance.
