Shel crouches and picks up the sword the cultist dropped, wondering if it had properties to help against the creature. "Anyone need a sword?"


As Shel pulls the blade -- let's call it a rapier -- out of the dank sewage, the lights in the room fade to blackness. (You may suspect what object the surgeon used as the target for his magic.)

You hear the thing advance in the dark. It takes a 5' step forward and swings at (Chun Hei, Maximo, Shel: 1d3 ⇒ 1) Chun Hei.
Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22;
Attack re-roll: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29; it hits, for 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 points. Chun Hei is down again.

Its path free, it moves inexorably towards James. It sounds as if it is right between the two rows of beds.

"Hah, now we have you right were we... gah! Shel, drop the sword! Drop the sword!" Maximo bellows as the darkness returns. Maximo waits see again, then does a double-take at Chun face-down in sewage again before using his wand to heal her again.

If he's in the construct's path, he'll step aside so as not to get pummeled.

"James, try to put a bunk between yourself and it if you can slip around it! We need to get to Rock if we can!"

Yep, I keep doing that!! 5'step, attack. Then look sternly at James. It is adjacent to both Shel and Maximo. Shel, with a 5' step, you can flank with the Glory of Taldor.

Shel shakes her head, knowing she might not be long for the world. She gulps and moves behind the behemoth. "Good luck, Max," she urges as she takes a swing at it.

Does Shel confirm her critical? 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 4 + 2 = 23, yes.

But does the creature's Fortification negate both the critical and sneak attack damage? 1d100 ⇒ 17; unfortunately, yes.

Shel delivers 2 points of damage.

Badr fires at it from close range.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18, which just hits!
Damage: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 points of damage; it's cracked all through, and each movement it makes results in a grinding sound from deep within.

Although this opportunity to bash the construct is ideal, Maximo has to heal Chun. They are the only two who can use the wands (that he knows of), and if both of them go down the party is likely lost in his mind. But he still has his warhammer with magic weapon cast on it, so I'll activate arcane strike in case the construct attempts to move by him and Shel, at which point he'll take his attack of opportunity.

So. Swift to activate arcane strike. Standard to heal Chun - and if she regains consciousness, he'll use a move action to stow the wand and get a two-handed grip on the warhammer.


Chun Hei is healed 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 points of damage, and is stable, I believe.

Oh yeah. Please do the honors for me. Bardic courage is still up for all (I think I forgot to reactivate it after healing Chun, but I did have a movement action left since Chun didn't wake up - Regardless, Shel attacked before Maximo was able to bring his healing to bear, and I'm not sure the courage bonus was counted in Shel's last hit). Maximo's warhammer still has 2 rounds of magic weapon left I believe. With flanking, etc. he should be at +7 to hit, +5 damage if I calculate correctly.

"We are not failing to attack, dear Shel, we are simply waiting for the proper moment." Maximo says as if she had committed an etiquette faux pas. Adjusting his grip on his warhammer, watching the construct stomp by, he waits for it to present its back. And as it does, he shouts.

"Now!"


Shel's Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8; miss.
Maximo's Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22, a solid hit, straight to the center of its chest. There's an audible crackling.
Damage: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (5, 2) + 5 = 12 points of damage.

The guardian shrugs, and its left arm falls into the mire. Then its head, and finally, its right arm and shoulders. The rest collapses.

In the distance, you do not hear any chanting.

Uh, I really hope this doesn't screw us, but Maximo was using his warhammer, weapon damage is 1d8+5, not 2d6+5. If you don't want to retcon, we could say I dropped the hammer and drew the greatsword.. or reroll the correct damage. Wince.

"Ahah!" Maximo exclaims, stomping his foot and spraying sewage everywhere. "Sorry." He chuckles brushing some off Shel before giving her a playful punch to the shoulder. "See? A little teamwork and its now just a pile of rock... err.. by Shelyn, Sadrock!"

Maximo dashes out into the hall looking for the Oread.

Maximo will use his wand on Sad Rock as soon as he finds him.

The Taldoran "Sharpshooter" then reaches into his backpack and produces a Wand (CLW Desna), "Save your charges Sirknight, please use this wand on anyone who needs it." he then turns to the Qadiran and audibly swallows his pride, "Badr, can you spare a bullet or two, I will gladly return them if I do not use them"

"Thank goodness" Shel says, as a little of the edge falls from her. "Let's get everyone healed and get out of this godforsaken place.," the halfling says as she tosses a few of those badges around the room.

"Oh I found this wand," she produces the ebony wand from near the sink. "Anyone know what it might do?

Shel pockets one of the badges as a memento of this crazy mission.


Someone might also want to tend to Chun Hei before she drowns.

Maximo uses whichever magic wand he prefers on the oread.
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4, still heavily wounded
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

And at that, the tingling in Maximo's arm starts to ache, and a coppery taste fills his mouth. The Taldan paladin takes 1d3 ⇒ 2 points of Constitution damage. Sad Rock, it looks as if Maximo's gums are bleeding.

By the time you put yourselves together, the safe house seems all-but-deserted. Given the filthy water now flooding the place, that seems sensible.

You can explore the rest of the complex, if you like, or you can take this time to cart Killian out to street level and get Maximo medical attention.

James glady accepts Badr's offering then picks up the face down Chun.

Maximo ran off quickly because he didn't know if Rock was bleeding out somewhere. He assumed someone would get Chun. Anyway, I'll use 2 charges from Maximo's wand and a couple more from James' to patch everyone up. I'm sure once she is awake Chun will use her own hellish wand as well?

"Well friends," Maximo says, spitting blood into the growing flood of nastyness, "I would suggest searching this place until the water, and I use that term loosely because whatever that is floating near Badr looks to have come from the chamber pot of someone overly fond of curry, er did it just look at me? Anyway, I say search until the water rises too high for safety. They might have left something behind capable of restoring Killian."

Happy Stone blinks his eyes and looks around.

"Where giant bebilith-dragon that smote me?" Happy asks, still a little unclear how he fell so quickly and so deeply to the ground.

"We fight still?" Happy asks as he rolls to the sitting position, his hand groping for his club.

"Where fighting machine?" Happy asks, slowly coming to his sense while trying to stand.

Oh...ouch. I fight like Aspis Continuum fight.

Happy Stone rises and rubs his head where the golem whacked him. Happy reaches into his belt pouch and draw his own wand of CLW.

Happy taps himself while intoning the command words to activate the wand he recently acquired.

"Beauty is death." 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 healing

Happy Stone puts away his wand with an explanation. "Uh, got wand at Temple of Asmodeus."

After healing, Happy Stone wanders over to see the results of the battle that he mostly slept through.

"Oh, that bad man?" Happy asks at the body of the one who cast Darkness. "Where fighting machine?"

Happy Stone will examine the body of the machine, looking for a souvenir of his time here.

Shel points Sad Rock toward the golem like creature, as she moves to Chun. "Someone help me get her on a bunk. Max, Rock, could one of you two heal her up a bit. She still looks quite the wor... well, I'm not sure how exactly she looks, but her eyes are closed. Could we heal her to make sure she's okay?"

Shel looks around the room and realizes that she is beginning to feel damp all the way up to her waist, so she advises she was leaving the room. "We've fulfilled our missions. I say we get out of here before the bring the reinforcements."

Assuming somebody brings her back to conciousness Chin Hei will cough and sputter, attempng to purge her body of the foul sewage. She will heal herself with her own wand, and go to recover Judgement before it is swept away by the rising tide.

Happy is examining the body and won't be leaving until that is complete. Also, we need to do *some* looting or they'll never believe we were Aphid Continuumers.


Sad Rock, you find that the different parts of the guardian are decorated with diffeent runes -- not too surprising, given Lissala's portfolio -- each about the size of a gold piece: a nine-tined fork; six circles with lines all meeting at a point; a six-hooked "catherine wheel"; a pair of stylized angelic figures, one upside down; and a figure that looks for all the world like a little bunny.

Shel watches Max's convulsions. "Take what you want everyone. We need to leave now! Max is infected by something, whether he got it from this muck or not, I don't know, but he isn't right. We also need a way to get Killian to safety, before he floods as well.

Happy Stone runs his fingers along the runes and gears of the construct.

"This good souvenir," Happy says, turning to Chun, hand outstretched. "Happy borrow Judgement, please?"

Assuming yes, thanks Pirate! If not, Happy will look to borrow someone else's primary iron/steel weapon or firearm.

Happy takes Judgement in his hand and concentrates solely upon it, changing the form from sharpened blade to a chisel/crowbar.

"Ah, perfect."

Iron Shape:

Oread racial ability. Lasts about 10 minutes, but you don't know that.

Happy will try to pry the fanged wheel rune out of the machine, using his club to tap the chisel portion until he can crowbar out the rest.

When finished, he will hand the crow chisel back to Chun.

"Thank you."
