Sad Rock |
It sounds like Sad Rock was going to visit his girlfriend, and I assume he will return the mug?
By now and in Sad Rock's mind, she's now his fiancee and the cup was a symbol of her undying devotion and subsequent interest in matrimony.
Sad Rock will be returning to the temple/bar to seek the love-of-his-life and consummate the sweet sweet deal in a night of rock meets water passion.
If she never returns or shows up, he will return the relic unless someone else wants it.

On the way over to the Temple of Calistria, Kilian walks quietly to start with, obviously thinking about something. "Max, you're pretty good at talking--can you do me a big favor when we get to the Temple?"
Kilian fan-Vaylen |
Kilian supports the Taldan if he needs assistance. "Before we got here, I was asked to talk to the Calistrian clergy about a, a party at the embassy in Magnimar. They need entertainers--high-class joyboys and joygirls, you know? And I was asked to set that up. But you know Calistrians and their grudges, so I was also asked to check if they were mad about something and were going to send the backups. I said I'd try, but that's not what I'm good at. Can you help?"
GM Chris Mortika |
Sad Rock, your beloved is indeed there, and she's happy to see you. However, her heart belongs to her Order and her god. She invites you to a drink and a talk. There are many ways for that conversation to go wrong, or become awkward for one or the other of you, but it never does. She assures you that you can always count on her strong arm and counsel in times of need, and she hopes that she can do the same with yours. If you're amenable, she'll spend the evening getting rip-snorting drunk with you.
Badr, you're all good. You've given added worth to your mission, to your credit and wealth.
Maximo, how many days are you going to be hanging out in Riddleport before you contact the Calistrians and Besmarans? Put another way, are you waiting to recover from your brush with death. Or are you paying for several lesser restoration spells?
Also, on further examination, your gut instincts were right: the dagger you received is not just coated with poison, but is a shoddy tin replica, gilded over in some magical auras. Returning it to the Calistrians might be seen as an insult. It might also put them in an awkward position if you assert that it's an obvious forgery. If you'd like, let me know, and we can roll your Diplomacy, but there would be repercussions if you botch it.

Assuming that Max shares that information....
"You know, we're going to be asking them to help out the Society, which is a pretty clear sign that we're not Aspis. Maybe we should congratulate them on a job well done, and ask them how to dispose of the thing safely."
Maximo Interresante |
Maximo shares his information. Regarding his health, he'd prefer to rest and recover naturally, but he made a promise to return the dagger the next day, so he will accompany Killian on his side quest despite being in bad shape (I'm hoping he can get at least 1 day rest under Long Term Care Healing = 4 con points back, or at least 8 hours for 2 con points). Anyway, since Killian's intent is to ask a favor of the Calistrians, it's better to just play stupid, and Maximo's plan in that regard was to return the dagger without acknowledging that it is a fake, accusing them of anything, and only admitting that he damaged the case in the fight with the cultists and was poisoned while retrieving it. In fact, he wasn't even going to touch the case again, but rather give his whole smelly backpack to the priestess and let her deal with it.
I guess what I'm saying is roll my Diplomacy. Heh.
I wasn't planning on dealing with the Besmarans at all. Send the hat by messenger or throw it in the sea, he made no promises to them, so he doesn't feel responsible for it.

*sigh*
With every glass raised, Sad Rock's granite heart breaks a little more.
With every toast and good cheer made, Sad Rock's eyes moisten and he tries to hide his sadness behind a raised glass.
When Sad Rock leaves the temple (and his unrequited love), he is sure that he will never love again...for never will he find another wetter, more lovely mate than his Beloved.
Sad Rock is now a hollow geode, except without the sparkly interior, and makes his way to rejoin the others after leaving the cup.
*sniff*

Since Max is obviously suffering from the effect of the poison, Kilian will agree to give him a chance to rest before returning to the temple. Next morning, unless something happens to intervene, he'll dress in his ersatz Chelaxian garb and escort Max (and anyone else who wants to come along) to the House of the Silken Veil.
Maximo Interresante |
On the way to the Calistrian brothel, Maximo makes a stop to purchase an antitoxen. Then another stop to buy a new bottle of wine.
He says in all seriousness as he examines the antitoxen. "Killian, my friend, this gives a whole new meaning to the saying 'don't forget to bring protection' when visiting a brothel."
Kilian fan-Vaylen |
The Andoren chuckles at Max's witticism. "I've seen places where their idea of protection is this." He thumps his armored chest, the scales clacking together. "Think I'd rather deal with that than what you got."
GM Chris Mortika |
All right. Maximo and Killian return to the Silven Veil. Bringing back the dagger, with a good cover story, is advantageous to your cause.
Kilian's Assist: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (8) + 0 = 8; not enough to help.
Maximo's Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 8 + 2 = 21; good enough, barely, to merit another audience with Shorafa Pamodae, high priestess and madam of the House of the Silken Veil.
"There's quite the uproar you and your friends have caused. At least three parties are out looking for your blood. Well, somebody's blood. That's impressive for a day's work."
When you offer to return the dagger, she declines. "Please keep it as a ... memento of our time together."
Kilian discusses hiring several courtesans from Shorafa. The priestess politely agrees.
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
And with that, you are dismissed.

The trip home is free from peril, although several Besmaran faithful are patrolling the docks, armed and mean-looking.

Venture Captain Heidmark is pleased to receive your report. She commends Shel, both for remembering the mission when more heated passions flared, and for remembering to drop a few Aspis badges where they'll be found.

There we go. Thank you for your patience during some long stretches. My thanks in particular to John, who role-played Kilian's stony aloofness to great success.
Rob, I'll get your Chronicle to you on Friday at Gamicon.
Maximo, Shel, James, I still have your addresses.
Badr, Kilian, and Sad Rock, if you can get me your street addresses, I'll mail your Chronicle sheets to you.
Shel Whispertongue PFS |
DM, just go ahead and subtract my share to un-rockify Kilian from the gold received, as I am sure you have done.
Badr al Din Ibn Badriyah |
Hi GM Chris, I am located in Australia and its gonna cost some coin and agro to send it.
Any chance of you completing a chronicle and scanning it?
Kilian fan-Vaylen |
I asked for the same thing in a PM, Badr, but it occurred to me that with his laptop infected it might not be a good idea for him to be sending files around. OTOH, if the GM sends me the hard copy I can scan it and send it.
And thanks again for running, GM C. Maybe not the best scenario to play as my intro to PFS, but you handled it well. Everyone else--I'll see you around the boards if not elsewhere. (Some of you sooner than others...GM Kobash, Grigor Vachkov, Dolgrym, Peri....)
Shel Whispertongue PFS |
Psst, Rob, talk him into running another game for us when he gets over his burnout, lol...
Badr al Din Ibn Badriyah |
Hi Rob or Killian, send me a PM once its scanned in and I'll give you my email details or you can host it off google doc etc.
Thanks again all.
