Monsters and Madmen: Necromantics and Monstrous MadMen

Game Master Remnant

More on the dark side, the Powers in the Darklands and UnderLands will occasionally recruit the oddities, outcasts, and malcontents, to aid in their schemes.

Welcome to the Machinations of The Lady of Linen.

I'm going to pretend our characters had all this discussion back when we were being recruited before Illia- teleported to go help the omnicidal druid.

With the games take on alternate planes and dimensions I get the feeling the When and the Where in question are subjective and the more important part is the What.

I'm wondering if Remnant's eyeballs will fall out when he next checks the thread.

On the topic of eyes *looks at horde of giant spiders Sanriel is riding on*
We definitely don't have any spare eyes in this group. Nope, not at all.

I also realize that I somehow do not have natural spell as a feat yet. I will need to rectify that.

*shrug*
Amusingly enough that would have just meant Sanriel animated their corpses (because Samsaran Mythic past life) and released control of them. Using his druidic powers to consider them just like animals of the normal type for the sake of his spells and abilities relating to them. (because vermin friend.)

I doubt Sanriel would have been very pleased with you for making him do such a thing though. He might have attempted drastic things.

What did we decide upon for HP from racial HD? Keep what's listed in the entry, which I believe is average, or roll ourselves? I wouldn't mind rolling, if I'm allowed to keep the average should my rolls be less.

Dude, I wouldn't play 10 Con in a normal campaign. You had a plan for survivability, yes?

If you haven't picked your template, I could give you RNE's barrier system. It's pretty much a CR 2 drop for +8ish AC, unlimited self-healing, and a unlimited refresh of a 35 Temp HP shield.

Nah, I actually don't plan to survive this game... I very much assume I will die. Evil begets Evil right?

EDIT

But when I do survive I will be even more of a Badass Normal.

Illia- wrote:

Its actually fairly common, Illia. We do it at my table all the time.

I have 7 racial hit dice plus three from classes, How bad would it suck if all my rolls were 1s or 2s?

Most GMs are rather fair, and allow the average if your rolls suck.

Status:
Warlord 9 HP 251/251 | AC 46 | T 29 | FF 38 | F +33 | R +34 | W +32 | Init +11 | Per +32 | SR 28

In my opinion, any sort of rolling for your base attributes or HP is an inherently unfair endeavor. The person who rolls straight 8s and 9s will be far better than the guy who rolls below and then takes the average.

That said, I still enjoy doing straight down the line 3d6, with random race and class off a table of thousands of random people's homebrew material. But I do that because I enjoy the craziness, not because I consider it fair.

Everyone Bask in your glory of Average. We will be happy in such a situation.

Average for racial hit dice is what the bestiary does, so taking the base HP from the Bestiary would work fine.

If you want to roll, that's fine too, but I don't think its a good idea to say "I'll roll, but if I roll low, I'm taking the average." That completely negates the risk/reward of rolling and makes it so there's no potential drawback.

That's how I'd rule it anyway.

Can I make a request that we keep the discussion that isn't related to getting characters ready to a minimum? Twice now I've checked in to more than 50 new posts, and most of them weren't related to getting the game underway. It makes asking or answering questions more difficult.

I'm all for player enthusiasm and lively discussion threads (I loved that part of Thunderbeard's game), but for the moment I think it would be good to reign it in, at least until we have the ball rolling in the gameplay thread.

Illia- wrote:

This character has been accepted by both GMs running these rules, including the original creator of them, so I'm pretty sure that it has been changed from "levels" to CR. For starters, templates don't come in level cost. They come in CR cost. I can throw all the levels I want at the template list, and it can't buy any of them, unless the GM makes a level = CR equivalency.

The previous GM quickly noticed that his rules worked best as treating the party as a bunch of CR 9 characters and bumped the challenges up quickly.

Ironically, despite having the most hit dice of anyone in the previous party, Illia was weaker than The Summoner's Ghost, Delyliath, Malfeasance, and Anaxian. Probably about equal with Drisquar and ... Er, sentient sword person, the accessory to murder... Tenro??

my character in the original thread would have been the weakest. Not too concerned about her. Things like molten pits of cotton candy and such will take care of the little stuff and then the red headed steplovechild of Hastur and Yog Sothoth for the tough ones (Adventure 3 coming up after the Drow Caravan)

First "Level" Max then roll. For this re-roll a 1 a single time take the next result

(How I have been doing HD in my games since before most of you were born)

But we could probably be silent for a day or two ...

Can I get an evil version of the Trait 'No Escape?'

There was a campaign set up recently to act solely as a 'waiting room' in between games. Seeing as this sort of thing is precisely what that was intended for why don't we take the banter there?
The hookscratch Inn.

Though I think the biggest question is the one Anaxian just reposted. mechanics stuff can be worked on in game but knowing how the characters interact with each other is the largest bar to entry at this moment.

How's this for a segue between the games-

We finished the contract for the Crimson Stranger and took over the Drow city, but it wasn't long before other Drow got wind of what had happened. A few more powerful cities decided to move on us both to avenge what had happened, and to take advantage of the situation.

We decided to cut our losses and left the whole place a ruin filled with crazed Succubus-slave zealots and hordes of uncontrolled undead.

A few of our group went their separate ways, but the majority of us decided our partnership was still lucrative and maintained our alliance, hiring ourselves out as mercenary troubleshooters int he underdark.

Recently, the Lady in Linen contacted us with a job offer.

Meh, I suppose I could have just asked your cat body to stop moving. but I figured it makes more sense for Sanriel to assume that an outsider has a pet outsider than assuming that she has an actual animal.

Hrmm... I failed to mention it but Sanriel has an unconscious plant aberration thing with him. I'll have to include that bit next time I post.
