Well, I'm just playing the waiting game for some vital paperwork so I can take my Broker's License Test and get on with regular work. Got a job waiting... just can't start until I'm properly licensed.

Oh!?!? I did not know you were disabled Megan! Be kind to yourself.. my mother is also disabled and I know how much of a task it is for her to get around.

Also... Shakhan, Gronk are you guys still there? no posts in some time from either of you!

I know you have time constraints Shakhan... but if regular posting is an issue it is no insult to us to bow out if you must. We do have a lot of people interested who seem eager to join.

Gronk,

Care to weigh in on recruitment?

I have made my votes clear.
The transmuter wizard (cause we need a wizard)
and the Arcane Duelist (cause inspire courage in a group of melee chars is awesome)

It leaves us with a ton of magic options
Me- evocation
Bard- enchantment/Buffer
Gronk- Divine Buff/Offensive
Wizard- can focus on Area control and utility
Ashe- not much of a caster but his backup healing is nice. Ashe, you should look at the CHALLENGE EVIL spell. Buffs you +2 hit and damage even if they make the save and sickens the enemy if they don't.
A wand of Divine Favor would be nice for you.

I am playing a Half-Orc Imodaen Oath of Vengeance Paladin (Sacred Servent)
I use the archetype to get 1 domain spell per level and the War (Tactics) domain.
The WEAPON MASTER power is so awesome.
I can swift action use any combat feat I qualify for.
Being able to turn on the perfect feat for a given round is awesome.

Half-Orc Cleric 6 of Groteus AC 21/ f f20/ t11, HP 38/38, F8/R4/W11

My first choice would probably be the Wizard. A straight wizard with a decent book is a powerful addition if we can give him time to prepare and enough info to make the right choices. Though I have not problem with him wanting to go EK I don't see that as losing all that much spell capability and definitely increases his survivability.

My second choice would probably be any of the bards.

But I have to admit, I am partial to spellcasters and tend to not give as serious of consideration to straight non-casters like barb, rogue, and fighters.

Though I must admit I have been considering a lore warden for a home game to get me out of my habits.

I had a stroke in December 2007, and whilst I am self-mobile I am still weak on one side... and don't pay enough consideration to it. The one thing I can still do with the affected hand is touch-type.

I walked too far on Friday and am still feeling the after-effects of it.

Male Human (Half-Chelaxian/Half-Scarzni) Wizard (Diviner) 1

I know I'm late to the thread. I'll toss in with a wizard (diviner) from another campaign that went kaput.

Xavian is an intellectual. He is focused on the accumulation and application of knowledge in the pursuit of arcane power. He would work well in a city environment. He's built with 20 points. I can easily raise him to lvl 6. I intend to play him as a straight wizard with no prestige class.

I'm an experienced player that won't slow the game down. Looking over the composition of the party, a straight wizard seems like a good fit. Xavian is not much of a glory hound. He's more of a chess player seeking to use the pieces around him to take down the king.

I'm standing with my choices... Una and Gronk you need to chime in your preferences. I'm getting a little anxious to get back to regular play.

Also, not to be rude... but if Shakhan is not going to post anymore... we should consider replacing him with a more active player. We have had a startling amount of interest.. and we should not waste this opportunity and interest to perhaps pick four new players.

Why not pick based on coverage?

Damoc is clearly voted in.

Both my vote and Ashes picked different bards (with inspire courage)

The gnome has archeologist luck which is self only.

So how about
Damoc (wizard)
Flib (trapfinder archeologist)
and either Ashe's or my bard?

I really prefer the Duelist Quimby so
Una or Gronk needs to break the deadlock.

There has been a serious shakeup at work. I'm not going to have any spare time for the foreseeable future. Also, I did most of my posting during down time at work. No way I'm going to be getting away with that anymore.
Afraid I'm going to have to drop out also. Sorry about that folks. It has been pretty interesting, but no choice.

Not necessarily.

For me PbP has to have a clear intent on the time willing to be invested by players AND DM's.

This game and the Legacy of fire games have slowed considerably due to lots of players dropping out. Every time we pause the story loses Momentum.

For instance, I play in Baldwin's council of Thieves game which is up to book 5 of 6 and 20000 posts in about a year.

This has been a 2 way street as while Baldwin makes and awesome game and posts many times a day, some players have dropped due to not being able to keep up. He is a rare DM because IRL he runs his own business and doesn't have to worry about being caught at work.

Only 2 of our band are originals.
You have been invited yourself Ashe but I can't quite remember why it never happened.

This game is also losing a ton of players. Myself included until recently due to personal circumstances so I cannot fault people for dropping out.
This is a fantasy we indulge in that can sometimes be too hard to sustain with life.

I love Megan's storytelling and would LOVE to resume 1/day minimum posting but that requires the players contributions as well. Megan often waits days for us to post. I have tried to make this clear in the recruitment thread so hopefully whomever we pick is committed.

In any case losing our cleric is a big hit.
I propose we take
Damoc and a bard (you pick which one ashe)
and crack on.

Let's stop halting play.
I am going to ask that a perspective player submit a cleric or witch or Inquisitor to cover divine casting.

Yeah at this point considering our... diminishing options... I'm will to relent on my choices and go with whatever will get our game moving again.

You want Quimby, I don't have a particular problem with the Asimar Bard... its a good character build. I only picked the two I did int he spirit of variety... but now it seems since Una has not chimed in and we are loosing Gronk... I'll go with whatever works for you as well. Since it seems to have come down to only you and me making any contribution to this game changing choice.

Damoc, Quimby, and Arianna Rothschild... ? That sound ok?

Remember, cure spells are on the Bard list as well!

Well I'd REALLY like at least a 3/4 or full divine.

I'll say
Damoc
Arianna

I'll ask Quimby to make a divine. Small compromise everybody gets the player they wanted.
Quimby was a melee caster.
Not hard to do that with a divine char.
(It's not cures that concern me. It's remove x and restoration. )

Well the big reason I left is fatigue. I have been gaming pretty hard as Varrel can attest to in Baldwin's game(Our archer left due to burn out and family duties) and I didn't want to just hang out for who knows how long sleeping while our scouts lurk around a building. I've dropped 2 other games because the DM took a powder and wasn't getting feedback from anyone.

The people in this PbP are great so you arn't annoying or anything that might make one want to leave.

Definitely a Melee badass with healing access.

Second, I am happy for Varrel to introduce you today. Our cleric just left in game and we can say you knew me from Cheliax, heard I had died in Korvosa (my former wizard master arranged to have me killed when he felt my newfound worship of Ragathiel would be...problematic.

Take a day off with the family and the game rushes on!

I've been thinking about Damoc and where I want him to end up. He's a caster who fancies himself a swordsman. I want to get him into armour, just to bolster his self-image. Although ranger was attractive, and I dearly love playing rangers, the fighter bonus feat is going to be more helpful managing the armour feat-taxes. I may never take him EK, one level of fighter may put him where he wants to be. I'm sure he'll tell me once I've started playing him in earnest.

A couple of questions for Megan are vital to gearing him up and final spell selection:

1. Spellbook? Megan, how paranoid should I expect to be about his spellbook and how would a spare copy count against WBL? (The main thing is I don't want to spend too much effort and too many resources here, to the party's ultimate detriment. )

2. Spells known. I'd like to spend some of his cash expanding his repertoire. Should I pay for scrolls and roll spellcraft checks to decipher them?

I'll get to work at lunch today!

Well...

First. Damoc IF he is a Transmuter you need to pick his two opposition schools... before considering what spells to take. I could not find them selecting in your current character profile.. I may be in error though.

Speaking on spellbooks, the Ultimate Magic SB details several choices for a wizard in spell books.

Book of Harms {Level 5 Evoker}
- Protection Average Lock (DC25)
- Oppositional Schools Divination & Transmutation {lol!}
- Value 485gp (860gp with preparation ritual)
SPELLS
3rd - fireball, lightning bolt
2nd - acid arrow, darkenss, ghoul touch, gust of wind
1st - burning hands, color spray, elemental touch, hydraulic push, hypnotism, magic missile, ray of enfeeblement, shocking grasp
- Ritual Preparation:
Harmful Surge {Su} = You can maximize a spell, but doing so damages you. Spend this boon as a free action when you cast a wizard evocation spell, but you take 1d4 x level of spell maximized.

Or...

Tome of the Transmuter {Level 8 Transmuter}
- Protection Good Lock (DC30)
- Oppositional Schools Illusion & Necromancy
- Value 1,810gp (2,610gp with preparation ritual)
SPELLS
4th - beast shape II, calcific touch, confusion, dimension door, stone shape
3rd - arcane sight, dispel magic, explosive runes, lightning bolt, greater magic weapon, slow
2nd - alter self, flaming sphere, knock, pyrotechnics, resist energy, see invisibility, whispering wind
1st - animate rope, charm person, color spray, erase, floating disk, hush, mage armor, magic missile, protection from chaos, unseen servant
- Ritual Preparation:
Defensive Transmutation {Su} = When taking another shape, you can increase your defenses. Spend this boon as a free action when you cast a transmutation spell with a range of personal. As long as YOU are the affected gain a +2 natural armor for the spell duration.

But... in general, a wizard's 100page {empty} spellbook costs 15gp and weighs 3lbs {PF Core Rules p.158 - Tools and skill kits). I believe purchasing a spell.. {non-scroll} is Caster Level x Spell level x 10gp.

~and for your knowledge THIS is the spellbook that is party access...

Vreeg's Spellbook:
3rd - fly, gentle repose, vampiric touch, water breathing
2nd - blindness/deafness, command undead, darkness, false life, feather fall, scare, scorching ray, spectral hand
1st - cause fear, sleep, magic missile, chill touch, ray of enfeeblement, shield
0 lvl - touch of fatigue, detect magic, mage hand, mending, ray of frost

@ Megan: Hey Megan I'd also like to, since were kind of at a story pause point here, get Ashe's Armor and Shield enchanted to +1 each. I have the cash.. but it will take at least a 8 hours for such an enchantment at only 1,000g cost to complete. I'd like to get that done before we get too much further into the game as I fear my opportunity will not be available shortly.

Hi, Megan! It's great to be playing with you again.

I've reworked Damoc. In the end the fighter bonus feat didn't help as much as I thought, and I couldn't resist the ranger skills. Feat selection was a pain. I fooled around with different item creation feats. Finally settled on Craft Magic Arms and Armor -- I thought it fits his fighter wannabe persona best.

If I could have answers to the questions I posed above, that would help considerably with finalizing his spell selection and shopping.

Sunphoenix and STR ranger, thank you both for your suggestions and information. If you want to take a crack at this latest version of Damoc I'd be grateful.

Sunphoenix, Damoc's opposition schools are evocation and enchantment.

Also, since Damoc's taken Craft magic Arms -- it could be a way to get him into the game. I can write a blacksmith friend into his background in whose shop he lurks in and where he tinkers with this craft. If Asherick was to show up there, Damoc would desparately try to ingratiate himself with the hero.

If your wanting to go the EK route at some point goin Enhancement focused school of transmutation might be better for you.. Also is your spell focus feat supposed to be conjuration? Ive played an xmuter into the mid teens before.. He was a stright wizard that just relied on really high saves on save or death spells basically.. But ive seen many Ek builds use em.. For example a Fighter 2/Wizard 5/EK 10/Wizard 3 ends up with +16bab and 9th level spells.. On a purely optimizing level unless your going Ek it makes no sense to dip 1-2 levels of martial.. Straight wizard would be better, but hey its your dude.. Do whatever would be fun for u..

Ok. Some observations.

I can only assume you wish to make a utilitrian build for your spellcaster... as you are obviously not spell damage.

However, your utilitarian spells selection is... odd. You are not built to do damage so I would think you would have the really important utilitarian spells that are the staple of Transmutation... but you didn't take them.

1st Lvl - feather fall {Never discount how useful this spell is.. it can save lives. And its one of the few immediate action Vocal only spells!}
* magic weapon... but 'meh' not really a good buff spell when at this level every has a +1 weapon... and you can craft +1 weapons and armor for half market value.
- You also selected Silent Image twice.
2nd Lvl - Alter Self, Knock, Make Whole, Spider Climb
3rd Lvl - Gaseous Form, Flame Arrow, Haste, Keen Edge, Magic Weapon Greater, Slow , Water Breathing

Those are all utilitarian spells... Very useful to the party.

As for your questions.. I thought I answered those...

1. Spellbook? Megan, how paranoid should I expect to be about his spellbook and how would a spare copy count against WBL? (The main thing is I don't want to spend too much effort and too many resources here, to the party's ultimate detriment.)

But... in general, a wizard's 100page {empty} spellbook costs 15gp and weighs 3lbs {PF Core Rules p.158 - Tools and skill kits). Verrel has a spellbook and only a regular amount of precaution and regard is necessary. Megans's not the type to cripple a character maliciously. A secondary backup spellbook would cost the same. Since you are a new character I would assume Megan would let you pick your spells and purchase new ones with your WBL without making you roll to learn and NO ONE ELSE did that until they entered play and began purchasing new spells In-Game. Correct me if I'm wrong here Meggan!

Quote:
2. Spells known. I'd like to spend some of his cash expanding his repertoire. Should I pay for scrolls and roll spellcraft checks to decipher them?

I believe purchasing a spell.. {non-scroll} is Caster Level x Spell level x 10gp. You don't have to purchase a full scroll {an expendable magic item} to just learn a spell.

Are you SURE you want to take Evocation as an opposition school? True Varrel can do spell damage but being able to sling a fireball or two without hamstringing your spell selection for the day would still be an asset. An don't forget Opposition school does not mean you cannot cast those spells... only that they take up double slots of the appropriate level to prepare them for the day. You didn't take ANY Evocation or conjuration spells... it this intentional?

You also should have 15 spells at this level you only selected 13.
- 1st Lvl [3], plus INT 18 [+4], +2/per level [+8] = 15

Yep. Don't forget, while I can cast blasty spells MOST of my slots are for self buff and single target save or suck.

I might have room for 1 fire ball...

Plus you are a whole spell level ahead of me.

PS Pit spells are awesome.

Sifts through for bits addressed to me.

Ashe, oh, go on then have your +1 armour and shield :)

Karmuk - I am running 5 games at the moment. Would you prefer a Curse of the Crimson Throne in particular or would any AP suit you?

Damoc - nice to have you! Have we played together before? If you wish to spend the money on a backup spellbook, be my guest.

Thanks for the invite. I've tweaked Arianna a little and need to bump her gear up to the appropriate level but she is good to go.

Ok.. we got Graxer in... Arianna, Damoc how would you like to be introduced?

I like the idea of Ashe going to the Academae for an enchanter for his armor and shield and told of a Ex-student Graduate who would do so. Lol..actually for half cost if you don't choose to charge me market price!
Both together is 2,000gp {1,000gp each}... but it actually nly takes 500gp for each in materials and preparation.

Normally Ashe would go to the church for enchantment done to his.. but this would get Damoc in the party.

As for Adrianna... she being a courtessan and Ashe being a cortessan.. they might have seen each other before... but not sure where he would meet her.

Hey Meggan is their any upcoming event in the module... like dealing with nobles or bards that might be a good way to intro Arianna?

Karmuk is currently in GM Nitemare's game: Tomb of the Darkest Star

But I am interested playing some other charcter.

I don't have much prior experience of Pathfinder or D&D, so I'd prefer to start from level 1 (as opposed to joining existing game), I have played other rpgs though.
And to be honest, I am not nearly as good role player as Varrel, Asherick and Una (mainly because I am not fluent in english).

I am not interested only in Curse of the Crimson Throne, any good AP would attracting me - except maybe Rise of the Runelords since I am GMing it IRL.

TLDR: If you start new AP campaign in the future, I am interested playing some chararter. But I have to admit that I not very good role player, because my english isn't that good.

Karmuk: Don't worry about your English - you are making perfect sense. We can always have you play a character from a far-off land whose, er, 'Common Tongue' is not completely fluent :)

Ashe: With a plague in full rampage, social events are few and far between. But perhaps your Mama will have a friend over for tea and cakes...

Could Ashe simply already have met her?

That would do just fine.

Yep, I can go with that. Why don't you two set that up & you can go fetch her (or send Majenko with a note...)

I DO hope Una and Shakhan make some attempt to say if they are still playing or availble to play.

@ Meggan... that's perfect... I was going to take Zellara's 'haunted' Harrow Deck to 'meet' my mother. Anica 'Sarah' Whiteplume-Stolyarev is a very traditional Varisian woman... at home, she puts on the trappings of a Chelaxian Noblewoman at court and in public to protect the interests and wealth of her presumed-deceased husband's House Whiteplume. The Noble house he started all for love of her. Ashe has long wanted to show Zellara's Harrow Deck to her.

@ EDIT: Wow. Ninja'd not once but three times!!!
