do you want me to roll to guide with knees and fight on combat trained mount. I cannot fail those checks?

GM Mazra |

Shouldn´t I be able to act too? Diviner School?
Good question. Does the Diviner school take into account the fact that you have no line-of-sight to the encounter. I am not in a position to research it at this moment. So if you know the answer, I will yield to your conclusion. And if you think you are entitled to an action, then go for it.

Elektra Stardancer |

You can always act in the surprise round even if you fail to make a Perception roll to notice a foe, but you are still considered flat-footed until you take an action. In addition, you receive a bonus on initiative checks equal to 1/2 your wizard level (minimum +1). At 20th level, anytime you roll initiative, assume the roll resulted in a natural 20.
Elektra dismounts

GM Mazra |

do you want me to roll to guide with knees and fight on combat trained mount. I cannot fail those checks?
This is for everyone. If you can't fail a check, then don't worry about taking it. I made the Goblin Commando earlier take a Ride Check. Afterwards it dawned on me, that the little creature couldn't fail it. So I will likely be doing this with Monsters as well.

Garrath Tricks the Giants |

Can always fail on a 1 :) For Garrath's next action
Garrath dismounts from his horse, not having ever ridden one into combat, he feels much better on his own two feet. He'll heft the Lucerne Hammer, and swing at the beast. Reach weapon, so Garrath doesn't need to get any closer.
attack boar: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
confirm crit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
damage: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

GM Mazra |

@Garrath - We always played that Skill Checks were different. If your skill was high enough, and you would even make it on a "1", then there was no need to roll. Same with the "20." Even if you rolled a "20", you would still fail the skill, then there was no reason to even try. Now you have me curious. How do others handle Skill Checks? By the way, I am open either way.
@Elektra - Garrath almost killed the beast. It is your initiative to try and finish it off.
@Brandark - The ground is firm.

"Lyr" |

RAW only have auto success/failure for attack rolls and saving throws. That's how I do it.
Lyr pulls on her reigns, moving back slightly and steps aside, watching the action.
no action. If it seems like it'll be too hard, I'll probably jump in. But mostly I don't see Lyr as the type who would participate in a hunt.

Brandark Plainswalker |

I have always gone with RAW 1 misses on attacks and saves, 20 always hits and saves. Nothing about skills in that.
The ground inquiry is moot now that the boar moved up to me.

Garrath Tricks the Giants |

I like the skill rolls not being dictated by 1's and 20's

GM Mazra |

Truly there is nothing in the rules about 1s and 20s with skill checks. But I have seen it played that way with more than one group. I use the RAW in my campaigns. And will use it here too. So if you have a skill check that is automatic, just noted it and move on.
@Brandark - I realized the ground condition is a moot point. But you asked. I will try to respond to all questions. I will also try to note when you are dealing with Difficult Terrain.
@Garrath - I think you are beyond 10' from the boar.

Garrath Tricks the Giants |

Okay, can Garrath hold action till the beast moves forward to engage Brandark? I thought that it had already done that, and he's only 5' from me, which would be in range.

Brandark Plainswalker |

would I be able to shift at a angle for 5'? I am not sure if the trees would interfere.

Garrath Tricks the Giants |

If squares are 5', Garrath should be able to move along the path to get into range easily. Which would end his turn and blow the hit roll :( Oh well :)

Aldern of Foxglove |

As Garrath dismounts and rushes toward the boar, and Kelvin misses with a bow shot, Brandark cleaves into beast with his new Waraxe. Its squealing quickly ends as Abacus stomps upon the wild hog.
Aldern Foxglove dismounts and races to see the action, only to miss the final blow. ”Bravo. Bravo. Well done. Let’s dress this boar and get it back to the Tavern. We’re going to have hog tonight,” the young man proclaims as he heads back to his horse.
GM note: The “Boar Hunt” was not designed to test the prowess of the party. It is more an opportunity for RP in a setting outside of Sandpoint. I also wanted to see mounted actions in a PBP setting, and learn from it. Much of Burnt Offerings is around Sandpoint, but not all. Also I have plans for side adventures not in the AP that will require being on horseback. And finally I wanted a glimpse to see the Cavalier in action.

Aldern of Foxglove |

With boar in hand, you make your way back to Sandpoint. Aldern talks about his townhouse in Magnimar, the Great Irespan, the vast Monuments and other sights in the big city. He goes on and on about Magnimar through the return trip to Sandpoint.

Brandark Plainswalker |

Brandark, dismounts, picks up his lance, and puts it away.
"Aye sir, we will be having hog."as he picks up the hog.
"Sorry about this abacus, I will get you more oats tonight for this" As he slings the hog over the back of Abacus's saddle.
A cavalier can be a beast, considering they don't take armour checks for riding on their mount.
On the way back, Brandark will keep an eye out to ensure there isn't anything trying to take the hog from us.
There are all sorts of interpretations on mounted combat. I will endeovour to maintain the common sense approach

Elektra Stardancer |

Asking Aldern a bit about Mangnimar and its Monuments and testamony of old Thassalonian Elektra tries to work some rapport with Aldern. Understanding that he is mainly interested in Lyr she withdraws and speaks some chitchat with Kevin, mainly about home, family, missing things.

Garrath Tricks the Giants |

Garrath mounts back up, with a chuckle and pulls alongside Brandark. "There are tribes of the Shoanti that pride themselves on being horsemen, but even they would admit to being a pale copy of what I saw today. You and your mount are a mighty pair!

Kelvin Fleetwood |

"Being in the woods today, even on this ridiculous hunt, reminds me of home. I am from the woods surrounding Celwynvian, so it was good to get back out there again." Kelvin responds to Elektra. "Where are you from Lady Elesskenefiatra, if I may be so bold to ask?" and he sits on the horse and listens intently to her answer.

"Lyr" |

Lyr looks at Aldern, startled. That is a . . . flattering offer, she says, slowly picking her words. Magnimar sounds wonderful, but . . . I will have to decline, she hesitates then adds, for now. I would like to spend some time here in Sandpoint. She purses her lips and looks away for a moment, Not to mention that I'm also not accustomed to running off with men I've barely met. She looks back to Aldern, her voice a little louder so the others can hear, I find the Cathedral fascinating. The design of it is wonderful. The rest of the trip, Lyr attempts to keep her conversations with Aldern a little less private.

GM Mazra |

First stop back in Sandpoint is to stable your horses. Daverin Hosk helps the party remove bridal and saddles from what for many is their new horse, ”For the Heroes of Sandpoint it is no charge for stable and feed. Nice boar by the way.”

Brandark Plainswalker |

Brandark chuckles and looks over at Garrath "Aye, a good mount is a blessing. He makes life so much easier at times, and one never wants for someone to talk to, even if one is alone.
This human, almost has dwarf like tendancies. He doesn't shy from a fight when one is upon us.
Garrath, I think you missed it, "Lyr" did channel for healing, so I think you would be at full health.

GM Mazra |

After leaving the stables you approach the tavern with its rusty dragon edifice on its roof, boar in hand, Garrath notices he is eyed by three young girls giggling and chatting amongst themselves. When Garrath looks back at them, they shyly turn away.
You take the boar to the kitchen where Ameiko graciously accept the beast, ”It looks like we are having wild boar tonight. I know just the recipe.” Ameiko starts prepping the fire to roast the beast.
In the tavern, Brathana comes up to Garrath and hands something small to him, ”One of the girls outside wanted me to give this to you.”
It is early afternoon. You are free to relax at the Dragon, or wander about town. Just let me know who is with who, and what you are doing. Thanks.

Brandark Plainswalker |

Brandark looks around his treasure "Daverin, That is one of the most odd trophies that I have ever seen. How did you come by it?"
After cleaning up Abacus, and then getting him an extra bag of oats, Brandark will return to the rusty dragon to drop off most of his gear.
Lady Ameiko, where may I find a general store?
I intend to do some mundane item shopping just use the price in the Core and Ultimate Equipment books?

Elektra Stardancer |

"I think I will excuse myself. With the money we earned I would like to write a scroll or two. Just in case."
How do we do scroll writing. It is 8 hours for 1000gp. How about a scroll for 25 or two?

GM Mazra |

Daverin Hosk will respond to Brandark, "About fifteen years ago, the Bonegrinder tribe was raiding farms and small villages around the area. I was a part of the Order of the Black Arrows back then, and we were tasked from the Mayor's of Sandpoint and Magnimar to rid the region of this menance, and we did," the usually quiet Hosk becomes far more animated and excited.

Proprietor Kaijitsu |

After cleaning up Abacus, and then getting him an extra bag of oats, Brandark will return to the rusty dragon to drop off most of his gear.
Lady Ameiko, where may I find a general store?I intend to do some mundane item shopping just use the price in the Core and Ultimate Equipment books?
Ameiko will look at Brandark, "The General Store is on Main Street right across the street from the Turandarok Academy. You can't miss it." Ameiko returns to prepping the Wild Boar for roasting.

GM Mazra |

"I think I will excuse myself. With the money we earned I would like to write a scroll or two. Just in case."
How do we do scroll writing. It is 8 hours for 1000gp. How about a scroll for 25 or two?
Often it is more than the 25 for a 1st level spell. I typically use the RAW on Creating Scrolls which also talks about spell components in the manufacture. And though I don't dwell on spell components in day-to-day casting, it makes sense to incorporate the cost in making a scroll. In general, I prorate the time it takes to a minimum of one hour per scroll. What do you think?

Garrath Tricks the Giants |

Garrath takes the item, and glances back outside where the three girls were looking at him, and sighs at Brethana, "I am not sure about things here, does this mean trouble? In the clans when a woman gives a man her hair, it is usually a wedding braid."

Brandark Plainswalker |

"Thank you lady Ameiko"
Brandark then heads up to his room, Grabs a sack, and fills it with torches, and rope.
He then heads down to the General Store.
"Lyr" did you distribute the coins that Foxglove gave us?
Kelvin, are you getting those pearls professionally appraised ?

GM Mazra |

Garrath takes the item, and glances back outside where the three girls were looking at him, and sighs at Brethana, "I am not sure about things here, does this mean trouble? In the clans when a woman gives a man her hair, it is usually a wedding braid."
"Could be," Brathana gives Garrath a wry smile. "Sandpoint has people from all over with many different customs."

Garrath Tricks the Giants |

Garrath very warily places the ring in a pouch, both afraid of putting it aside, for fear of insulting the gift giver, and also not wanting to put the thing on, for fear of some deeper meaning. He also looks out the window to see if the color of the hair matches any of the women he saw before.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

GM Mazra |

As Brandark approaches the General Store an attractive young woman is leaning on the railings of the store front. The toes of her right bare foot is gently, yet constantly tapping the wooden planks below her. As you step up to enter the General Store, she approaches you. Her movement is almost bashful. She bends over slightly, and talks softly to Brandark,

Yes. Looking toward them, it is the one to the left. On the map she is in the lower right corner on a row to herself. She appears to be a human female 15 maybe 16 years of age.

Brandark Plainswalker |

Brandark, a little surprised by the actions of the human woman.
"Lass, I will help you at a later time, but I am not sure if I have the time right now." He then continues to walk into the store.

GM Mazra |

Kelvin will ask one of the serving girls if there is a jewelry store in town.
A pretty, yet tall, human woman serving customers, smiles at Kelvin, "The Jeweler is in the square in front of the New Cathedral. It barely survived the great fire," the woman responds with a somewhat pained expression, as she remembers that horrible evening. But then recovers and smiles back at Kelvin, "Isn't there anything else I can get you. Glass of Wine, perhaps."

GM Mazra |

Brandark, a little surprised by the actions of the human woman.
"Lass, I will help you at a later time, but I am not sure if I have the time right now." He then continues to walk into the store.
The Lass follows Brandark into the store. "My father is away. It shouldn't take you long to kill that rat. It is in the basement. I can show you," the young woman stands next to a door that likely goes down to the basement.

Brandark Plainswalker |

Brandark sigh's "Miss, did you bring the rat problem up with your father?" and then gestures for her to open the door.
Map works for me now. And I have a bad feeling about this. . mental note parties should stay together. :)
