Taliesin follows the others cautiously into the room. "What is this shrine doing here?" she wonders aloud.
She begins searching the room for anything of interest.
perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

GM Tobi |

Inside and looking around the room, you see that the room definitely is a shine or temple dedicated to Nethys. One side of the room has a white altar, the other a black altar, each represents an aspect of Nethys; Protection and Destruction.
Searching through the room, you see that each altar contains a silver altar service and silver holy symbols of Nethys. Also there is a scroll on each of the altars.
While searching, you also come across a hidden door just north of the white altar. The door appears to be locked.

"I admit, this room makes me uneasy, I've no idea what these scrolls are, allow me to check the altars and the lock on the hidden door."

"I believe so good Rhu, a moment..." the wayang says, sliding a set of tools from a pouch on hip. Kneeling down, he goes to work on the lock. If my perception revealed a trap I'll try to disable that first.

Kerastes touches his holy symbol before investigating the scrolls.
"The scroll on the black altar is a scroll of shatter."
it seems as if Kerastes is anxious when he proceeds "Here Taliesin, I think you can make good use of it. Please do me a favor and make sure I am not in its area of effect when you use it. I do not know whether I would be affected, but I would rather not find out the hard way"

![]() |

"Okay, I'll take the scroll," Taliesin says.
"I guess we are trying that secret door? You guys are really perceptive...I don't think I ever would have seen that! Good job!" she adds cheerily.

GM Tobi |

Searching both of the altars and the secret door, Kalri finds nothing out of the ordinary before setting off to unlock said door. He fiddles with the lock for a bit but the mechanism won't budge.

![]() |

"Hmm." the wayang says. "Might I ask some Guidance from you Kerastes? Or some Saranrae Guidance? It's a tricky lock. I'll take extra care this time.
If they turn me down deduct 1 from the roll. :)

Of course you get Abadar's help. Although it is a pity guidance does not stack ;-)

"I discovered early my mechanical mind and playing with 'toy
locks, my teacher's discovered, calmed my racing thoughts
significantly, and has come quite in handy today." the
dark little wayang says shyly, eyes transfixed on his work.
"I wouldn't be here to do this if it wasn't for you all,
anyway, I'd have been a dog snack if it weren't for you guys..."
he says kind of quietly.

GM Tobi |

Wow nice Disable
Kalri begins to work at the lock slowly, methodically, as he talks. It takes a little bit, but soon the lock gives an audible click as the lock is disengaged.

Listening at the door, the wayang doesn't hear anything other than what sounds like the wind blowing, though he does catch the faintest hint of ammonia.

GM Tobi |

From the outside this level of the tower also had a large section of the eastern part of the tower collapsed.

![]() |

Kalari backs up, his work done. "I smell..." he stops for a moment, trying to place the smell. "Is that ammonia?"
"I didn't hear anything but wind, maybe it's the crumbled upper sections of the tower. Shall we have a look?" the wayang asks aloud.

![]() |

"Exploration without looking is quite hard"
Kerastes casts guidance on himself and opens the door, longspear in hand.

![]() |

"Why does adventuring have to be so stinky? Is there some kind of Pathfinder regulation against having adventures in a meadow that smells of flowers? Or perhaps we could chronicle the different perfumes favored by nymphs rather than studying troglodyte stench? Where is the harm there?" Taliesin wonders as Kerastes opens the door.

![]() |

"I would quite enjoy that. Maybe thats what, what was it? Venture Captains? Maybe those guys explore meadows while we get to do the fouler work." Kalari says offhandedly as all await the door opening.

![]() |

Kalari glances at Taliesin and grins. "Why Lady Staccato, you manage to inspire me even when you pout my dear. It's quite the complex reaction really. I'll be sure to make note in my investigation journals back at the Citadel. Perhaps I'll write my thesis on the subject!" the wayang says excitedly.

Taliesin smiles a genuine smile at Kalari, her teeth white and perfectly straight.
"You are too kind," she says. Though I am used to it...
Turning back to the door, she becomes more serious.
"Dearest Kerastes, could you be a dear and hurry with that door? The anxiety is killing me!"

GM Tobi |

Opening the door, you find the large chamber to mostly be open to the sky, a light breeze blowing by giving you a bit of relief from the troglodyte stench. The northern section of the chamber does still have a ceiling.
The smell of ammonia seems to be coming from the northern section of the chamber.

Looking up at the ceiling in the northern section, you notice that the shadows along there seem to be moving, as you look closer, you can see within the shadows, dozens of small forms huddle against the stone of the ceiling. Suddenly you realize, bats, and a lot of them.

![]() |

"Oh my, that's a lot of bats." Kalari says breathlessly as the smell's origin becomes clear and he points upward to the others.

Baru tail produces his wand and places it in his hand. He performs the same theatrics as the party has seen many times before. And another dragon shaped flurry of sparks speeds off to one of the squares occupied by the bats.

Kalari readies himself to drink his extract of Shock Shield should the bats attack instead of flee after the fireworks go off.

![]() |

"No, no, no, no, NO!" Taliesin shouts. "Just shut the door! The walking dead is one thing, but bats or bugs? No way! E-yuch!!!"
She visibly cringes, though the bats have not yet entered the room.

GM Tobi |

Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Baru's firework explodes among the bats, illuminating the ceiling and showing off many, many more bats than you originally thought. The entire section of the northern room ripples as the bats let loose of their perches and begin to gather together and move toward you as a single mass.

Kalari gulps his extract; electrical current ripples across his coal colored skin. Rapier in hand he creeps into the room to try and find a shadowy spot to hide in, waiting for his moment to strike.
Drink Extract of Shock Shield, boosting my AC by 2.
This spell creates an invisible shield similar to but not as strong as the shield spell. This shield hovers in front of you and negates magic missile attacks directed at you. The disk provides a +2 shield bonus to AC. This bonus applies against incorporeal touch attacks.
At any time, as a free action, you may dismiss your shield, at which point it deals 1d6 points of electrical damage to all creatures within a 5-foot burst, including you. A Reflex saving throw halves the damage.

"I share the bard's opinion. We could simply shut the door and leave these creatures be. They're not evil, and I doubt that a swarm of bats could be in collusion with the troglodytes."

![]() |

"I've got NO problem by-passing these vermin, but I would wait until our shadowy friend disperses the charge he's building up before we shut the door, preferably after he runs in, discharges, then runs back out! Some folks are more prone to self destructive behavior than others!"

![]() |

Kalari whispers from somewhere in the shadows "I have no intention of doing anything quite so crazy. Just being cautious, I can come back in if we'd rather bar the door. My extract is meant purely for protection at the moment."
Was there another room? I was under the impression this was the only way we had left to explore. If not then we can try and avoid the bats, I dislike bats greatly.
edited to add: Going back and re-reading this seems to be our only unexplored room. We came all this way to run away from bats? Mayhaps there's another door or hidden chamber in the section containing the bats? I don't think we've missed anything so far.

Kerastes stands transfixed in the doorway, things are happening a bit to fast for his stony brain to comprehend.
And his initiative count has not come up yet

![]() |

Some of us can; OOC, I know that bat swarms are immune to damage from weapons and single-target spells, but are vulnerable to AoE spells (so the swarm should have taken 150% damage from Baru's fireworks). Rhu has a couple of flasks of alchemist's fire to hand, which will help.

GM Tobi |

One this floor, this was the last room to explore. The stairs do continue up to the next floor, so for all intents and purpose you guys can avoid this fight if you want to. It is up to you.
And yes Rhu, I read the fireworks description a couple of times but the bats will have taken 150% damage from the firework.

![]() |

"Let's shut them in!" Kalari says, as he dart's back into the other room.
Let's bypass them, if we need to come back we can, bat's seem pretty content where they are haha
