Shadara, if I'm reading correctly, the 'stable' Milos rented is a storeroom with a room above it, not an actual stable. His mount would frighten other animals and take hands of anyone who got too curious, so he wanted it somewhere isolated. See this post.
I keep forgetting that it's not a stable and treating it like it is one. If it's a storeroom made of stone, the spikes in my last post would have been stone rather than wood.
Good catch. I will see what I need to revise to make that work. Thanks.

Richard
where are you? Mang went to the commons room. You havent said where you were or are. Did you go with? did you stay in room? ....did you find an outhouse ... ??? Can't really move ya on til I know where you are and what you are doing.
Mangwhat are you doing with all the ruckus going on around you?
Shadara & Quinten Thanks for staying on top of things and moving the story along so well. I really appreciate the efforts.
I know that all are busy and that I am as well thus some of our posting has been odd to say the least. I'm ok with that if group is along as story keeps going and we have clearer communication.
I ry to give heads up when not going to be posting for a day or so. I hope ALL remember to do this.
I would like to know what you are liking and disliking etc....feedback on game so far. OIt helps me to tailor to your likes as players.
Thanks
Im having fun

Just a bit of forewarning. I will try to remind the day to two before. I will be traveling to a conference May 9th thru May 13th. I may not be posting much if at all. Then I have a couple of weeks from June 30th thru July 15th that I will be out of town. I may not get much time there to post regularly. Have a Family Trip in which I will be visiting Herk in RL and then going to the Cisco Live 2016 conference.
I am loving the game and have had a blast so far. The only possible drawback is that the world is so open with possibilities that trying to gather information and figure out a plan is taking time. I dont mind it but sometimes I do wonder if others may be getting bored due to lack of direction.
I hope that I am wrong in that thought and if I am causing that kind of problem I do apologize and ask that you let me know. I am good at moving at many different paces as Herk and Mang know.
If my passage of time is correct I believe we have made it through two days roughly, is that right? I also hope that everyone is feeling that they can contribute and that I am not trying to take over or control the narrative. I am just as good at playing the soldier as the leader. Albeit an unruly soldier.
Oh shutting up now.

I've had a lot going on. I finally got a chemistry related job but I'm still only just scraping by so I'm working as many hours as they will let me, and then coming home and doing other things to try and make money. I am checking in daily, but I haven't been posting much as I didn't see much I could add then. I'm not leaving, though.

Things I like:
1. It's clear that you're willing to work with players. I liked that you created a custom class for Milos, and I've appreciated your early reassurance that I could play a skill-focused character with poor physical attributes. I've never played a character with no Dexterity modifier, and I'm sure I'll regret it from time to time, but it fits the theme and power fantasy I'm going for with Quinten. He's supposed to be someone who takes risks despite the odds, not a man born for adventure.
2. I like the freedom to create elements of the world and insert minor NPCs. I also had fun describing what a certain cat with a death sentence on his head did to Quinten.
3. You're integrating all of our backgrounds into the story somehow. Mang has met a creature who claims responsibility for murdering his tribe, Shadara has had seizures tied to the Oracles, Richard has met a cheeky servant who knows something about his past, and Quinten has discovered that his parents are more than the explorers and academics they claimed to be.
4. The NPCs have a sense of humor.
5. The world's setting is novel. Since we haven't had to leave Fifth Port yet, that hasn't come up much. However, I think I'll have fun learning about traveling in the desert once that becomes appropriate.
The group as a whole seems to have a relaxed attitude about the game. While I'd love a faster pace, I'm glad you've all got other things going on in your life and understand when I need to step away.
Herkymr, time and technology permitting, please proof your posts to double-check the tags. Also, try to remember to respond to rolls! I still don't know what Quinten learned from his knowledge checks about the creature, or what failing the first Will save and getting a 3 on the d100 roll meant. I've been assuming that's because you've got a lot on your plate outside the game.
Also, sometimes a short post with an obvious hook will do more than a longer post with lots of detail. It's been easy to respond to the cat-man because his posts end with questions or actions that relate directly to Quinten and Shadara. Mang and Richard might be curious about who the respected old lady is or why Murs was once chased up the mountain by dragons, but neither character seems the type to ask about that.
At this point, I'm assuming the game will be light on combat, which is fine with me. From what I've read, play-by-post games tend to grind to a halt during conflicts. But if combat will never happen, or will take an abstract form, I may change my feats; all three are designed to make summoning a viable in-combat activity for a character with 6 spell levels instead of 9.
Regarding Tales of Altheria:
1. I'm thrilled to see Spheres of Power in use! The system looks awesome, so I'm curious how it works in practice.
2. I can see the similarities between your character and the NPCs you've played. Both have the sense of humor I mentioned earlier.
3. I wonder if Mei Yonsa is inspired by Balsa, the spear-wielding bodyguard from Moribito who refused to shed blood.
Shadara, I think you're correct that we've covered about two days of in-game time. I haven't gotten a sense that you're trying to control the narrative, but Quinten might defer to you more than a more mature person should. In character, he's not used to taking a leadership role outside of teaching and has little experience with intrigue. Out of character, I get the sense I have more free time than you or the other players and don't want to monopolize the gameplay thread.

Nice work on the job! what you doing and where you working? I missed your b-day wings party this year m:( Theo reminded me the other day while chatting.

Thanks for the feed back.
As for the will save...the way things played out made it unnecessary for me to need it in the end. Thus I said nothing about it. Didn't feel that it would help the game to explain or use it where the play itself had negated it.
I love the help with the game world that all of you are putting in. It makes my part much much easier.
As for tags...I will try :) sometimes as the time stamp shows the only break I have long enough to post is way way to early in the am for a logical brain to function ... let alone mine.
I thought that I had reposted the information from the rolls for knowledge. I know that I had posted it but it didnt go through and so I typed it up to repost. It may be saved else where I'll look and or go back and give it to you.
SORRY missed part on me.
There will be combat and when it is it most likely will take a bit. However if you want to change out feats I'm fine with that to.
BTW everyone.....I have a job interview for a preservation specialist in a records preservation vault in this area. It is wednesday would have been earlier but I guess I need some sort of a second level clearance and so they needed a bunch of things from me before I can actually enter the facility.
Part of what I would be doing is transferring genealogical data from microfish and micro film to more digitized formats. It sounds cool and would probably be cool. Ill keep my fingers crossed and my prayers ascending.

That makes sense. Time permitting, one thing you might do is put the effect of a failed save in spoilers, as you've done with skill checks. That should speed the game.

Haha. I know how that goes. I've had some early morning e-mails I've regretted (and more that just make me chuckle).
There will be combat and when it is it most likely will take a bit. However if you want to change out feats I'm fine with that to.
Thanks. Would you be comfortable with Quinten using the variant multiclass system from Pathfinder Unchained to moonlight as a bard? That would involve trading the feats he'd normally gain at 3rd, 7th, 11th, 15th and 19th level for access to Bardic Knowledge (1/2 level to all knowledge checks), Bardic Performance (Inspire Competence, Inspire Courage, Dirge of Doom, and Inspire Greatness only), and Versatile Performance (which would allow Quinten to use Perform (oratory) in place of Diplomacy and Sense Motive).
If you want more detail, you can find the VMC rules under Variant Multiclassing on the Character Advancement page
Good luck with the interview. It sounds like a neat job. I wonder how old the data is to be on microfish and microfilm.

Herkymr the Silly |

"Quinten"
Using that setup from unchained seems fine. Not familiar with it but so far from everything ive checked and know you've been right on so I'll trust ya.
Richard
Sorry about the family member. Hope all is going atleast a bit smoother with funeral plans and all getting done.
Sorry if I sounded a bit grumpy in my last post to you. I was frustrated and tired and frustrated. The tone was unnecessary but the information is still needed.

Shadara Windless |

Herk, some nights I really wish you were still here in RL. Got some stuff going on here that may make my posts slightly erratic over the next few days. If I can't post in the evening I will try to post on breaks the next day. Really feeling Disturbed "Sounds of Silence" right now.

World of Mangrove Desert = Vampires/Infected
- Progressive disease
- Bite or exposure to vampire blood can transfer the “bacteria” carrier to the vicitm/
- Sunlight has no initial affect on them but as they progress into the disease they become more and more intolerable towards sunlight.
- They do not have to drink blood to stay alive however they have what they call BLOOD HUNGER. It requires more and more blood to satiate unless it is of a humanoid creature
- Drinking blood from humanoids heals damage that has accrued
- They can momentarily take control of another humanoid by touching them and “linking” minds through force of will
- They may turn immaterial occasionally and this is most often seen as a means to avoid complete destruction
- They do not cast shadows no matter what the circumstance. Even when they take on their affinity of the night form they do not cast shadows
- They dislike anything that sends their reflection back to them. They don't see a normal reflection like humans do; they see what will become of them when they finally succumb to the power of the blood hunger and lose their remaining humanity. {similar to Dorian Gray's portrait,)
- Due to reflective qualities of water, Vampires will not cross water voluntarily under anything less than “mortal” danger. Even then, the crossing causes physical and mental damage due to the stress needed to avoid seeing their reflections
- Vampire cannot enter a private home or dwelling unless invited in by someone with the authority to do so. If they have tasted the blood of the owner, or a person with authority to invite them into the house, they may enter as if they had been invited. This can only occur within a short # hrs of the time the blood was consumed.
- Cannot tolerate garlic.
- Recoils from signs and symbols of deities connected to Good and/or Order.
- Once the disease enters the body nothing shy of Diefic intervention can return them to humanity
- Some evil persons may be able to temporarily suppress the vampires self will for a brief period of time
- Each month on the night of the full or true moon, Those “vampiric” few who wish to retain their remaining humanity must fight the draw of the blood hunger which is greatly amplified by the full moon. Those unable to refrain from partaking in the moon of blood hunger lose one more shred of humanity and slip more towards becoming feral or true vampires and having no self will except that of the blood hunger's need
- Driving a stake through a vampire's heart will kill it instantly. If the stake is removed they revive unless the head has been severed or the whole body has been drenched in holy water
- They have mastered the use of language to get what they want.
- They often stalk their prey from the shadows before striking and have thus become adept at using cover and darkness as a disguise
- Many vampires have heightened knowledge of history or of religion. This knowledge comes from many sources such as persecution, how long they have lived, or simply intuition at times.
- Silver and all silver like metals are damaging to them. Some brave their use by keeping their hands covered in gloves or wraps to avoid the physical pain such materials inflict
- Vampires who consistently hunt and kill other vampires retain their humanity longer than those that do not hunt their kind. Killing feral/true vampires greatly strengthens their grip on humanity much longer than killing only those afflicted with the disease
- They can always tell when they are with in a short distance of others of their kind and always know when a feral or true vampire lives near any stationary gathering of humanity such as a village, city, or metropolis
- When first infected , vampires gain a kinship with one of the night creatures. These creatures are wolfs, spiders, rats, and bats. They can emphatically understand and sense these creatures when within a mile or so of them. As their disease progresses, they gain the ability to shift into their the shape of their kin and copy some of their abilities.
- Energy that would heal living creatures does damage to vampires as the disease “fights” against being attacked
- When a community has been adversely effected by a vampire or vampires for a period of time, a slayer is manifest. Each slayer is keyed to a vampire where they first “arise.” The slayer exhibits abilities and senses akin to a predatory animal of the nearby environment. Special or mutated abilities occur as well when “balance” deems it necessary. They have what is deemed a form of blood hunger however it is keyed only to those whom they have been tasked to destroy. Once they have destroyed their “chosen” they lose their powers and memory of all that has occurred since they originally were “called upon”
- Climate and environment have little or no direct ties to the advent of the vampire disease
- As their physiology changes so does their ability to withstand common injury, paralysis, and influence from others. These changes continue to strengthen as the disease progresses.
- Infected who give way consistently to the blood hunger advance towards a feral vampire quickly. Infected who are able to resist long enough gain the benefits of being a vampire and have overcome most of the negative effects of vampirism These become "true Vampires" having self will and not ruled by the blood hunger anymore. They also become able to create other infected.Though the "infection" may be spread other ways.
I worked with Milos on this and we actually built a "class" to show the advance of the disease. Each of the orders is a way to help regulate the # of inflicted and the interaction of them on the community.

Herkymr the Silly |

JUST TO REITERATE...I am using this as a jump start for a book I am writing. The world will be this one and some of my characters may very well take on the overall personas of your characters. I will greatly flesh out alot more to fit the story and the world.
The INFECTED version of vampirism is crafted to fit this world and my concept for it and thus is ORIGINAL in its creation.
I know others will see it but keep it ingame as much as possible please.
THANKS

I can't comment on Maptools, but one of the advantages of online games is that they can be shorter. Since there's no driving time, you can play for an hour or two without feeling like you've wasted gas, which might make it easier to fit games in.
I updated Quinten's character sheet to reflect the items we received from Jana and the pouch he got from Jerras. I went ahead and switched to the variant multiclass Bard but kept my first level feats combat-oriented. I'll update my combat rolls page once Quinten has a chance to go home, pick up his third implement and invest points in it.

Herkymr the Silly |

Hey all.
I wont post much tonight. I need the sleep for a jeweler's job interview tomorrow. I am excited! The other job interviewed for didnt pan out but I got a call about this one when I got home so...things are in the making.
And BTW about 4 weeks or less til baby M comes!!!! {dang thats frightening and exciting}

Shadara Windless |

Good Luck and let us know how it goes. I need to also talk to you offline when you have a few minutes about upcoming trip.

Herkymr the Silly |

The interview appears to have gone well. We will see what comes of it. They are looking at hiring a total of 12 new jeweler apprentices between now and august for this company. I interviewed at the main service store and they are bringing on three there. The other stores are nearby as well.
So fingers crossed and prayers muttered.

Shadara Windless |

fingers crossed here for you too

Richard the Amnesiac |

Sorry for the delay took on a lot of stuff this week and barely had time to try to post. tried one earlier and had it eaten due to some internet issues (my connection likes to cut out sometimes) which left me a little discouraged about writing up another one right away.

Shadara Windless |

sorry about the delay in posting. Had issues come up at work causing late nights and long drives. I will try to get something posted by tomorrow night.

![]() |

The penalty makes sense. I just need different dice! Alas, those are hard to arrange here.
My last post was hard to write. I went back and forth on whether to pay the creature, which is the prudent move, or assume he has bigger fish to fry and keep the tetrachs Quinten carries for the party's use. Keeping them seemed more heroic, so I went with that. Hopefully, I don't regret it.

![]() |

It occurred to me that this post might have been meant to imply the creature asked for and took payment, as it references accepting and returning the payment. If that is the case, ignore the parts of my last post about not paying. At that point, Shadara and Quinten hadn't gotten away with enough guff for Quinten to feel comfortable refusing, especially since the creature hadn't yet admitted a tie between itself and the Yellow Scorpions.

![]() |

I need to re-read earlier parts of the gameplay thread to respond to Shadara's question, so it might take me a day or two to post.
Herkymr, the creature took the 200 tetrachs Quinten had as well as the bag that Shadara tossed at it, correct?

Herkymr the Silly |

from what I could tell yes it took them. I had to reread it as well ut that was my understanding.
My posting for a bit will become more and more Erratic because it is just a bit over 2 weeks til our new kiddo arrives and I am working on getting things in order to make the change/adjustment easier on all.
I WILL KEEP POSTING JUST erratically

Herkymr the Silly |

Hey all.
I appreciate the effort you are going to to stay playing. With everything going on right now sometimes the break to post is the only link I have to sanity or my version of sanity.
Quentin == great sum up. I think that will help a lot as we move on for we wont all have to jump back to every post for the basics. Thanks!!
Shadara == Even with work and all that going crazy, I still appreciate that you take the time to post and the effort to help the "team" function as a team. The coherence is obvious and I enjoy it. Makes my job much easier. ::::: How or what do you do with what Quentin has just summed up?
Mang == Like I've said before...I am interested in seeing where you take this character. The way you are building his personality is interesting and has a few twist I hadnt thought of . Keep it up I hope your enjoying Mang as much as I
Richard == Thanks. I know that it can be hard to come into a game that has a fairly established group and just jump right in. I am glad you have been able to do this. Your character opens a ton of new options for me as a DM to create for this world.
=================================All====================================
Thanks.
May 16th is baby day {guesstimation} so it is getting close
Also, unless I miss read completely wrong, I am fairly certain that I have a job with a major Jeweler's company. I had a second interview today and did a preemployment screening on their site afterwords. Fingers crossed.............XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Anywho keep up and in touch
