Game Master Herkymr the Silly

The lands are barren of their once luscious greenery and varied other ecosystems. The culprits are chaos storms--large random magic surges ravaging the lands like tornadoes. The deserts have spread as the storms continue to force the land to change. Purveyors of the magic arts have drawn together in hopes of discovering the cause of the storms.

Civilization has shrunk to the edges of the desert for the most part. Mangrove trees have been cultivated to stop the advent of the desert into the remaining waters. Druidic magic strengthens the trees and purifies the water so that life can be maintained. They also provide refuge for many of the creatures that have survived the changes.

The dragons have all but disappeared and the giants are ranging out once more leaving destruction and terror in their wake. Rumors of a cabal of wizards controlling the ravaging bands have begun to circulate among the rabble in the cities.

Sages and others of ancient lore whisper of a group tasked with keeping the ancients in line with nature and magic. Absence of these guardians could correspond with the giants raiding and the notable absence of the dragons.

Group! Question! I have been talking to the DM and a question I posed to him was circumventing the normal routine of rolling for hitpoints and just treating it like a class feature and maxing the value for every level for all of us. I brought this up because I question the randomness of the random number generator on this website and I believe it's within probability to see a string of terrible health rolls. I've done it in another pathfinder game and it didn't get too crazy, worked quite nice actually. What do the rest of you think?

I think early on it may benefit the group to be max health but then after a certain point bring the randomization back in. That way the health bonus does not get out of hand. Either way is fine with me but I think a temporary suspension of randomizer would be a great compromise. It allows the characters to start strong and then become more unique later.

If the goal is to keep the randomizer from hurting us, I'd recommend letting each player choose between rolling or taking the average (3.5 for a d6, 4.5 for a d8, 5.5 for a d10, and 6.5 for a d12) rather than full health. I'm worried that full health will drag out combats or force Herkymr to run larger groups if he wants to threaten us.


So..would everu one be ok then if we suspended randomization til 5th level?
I think most of you are second level now. so the adjustment to hp wouldn't be a big deal.
At 5th level then we would follow what quinten said taking average or rolling as chosen by player.

That sound good for everyone?

I think it will work well. I appreciate the group also thinking of what I have to do to keep things going for the group as well.

I'm okay with it. I like the PFS system, max HP on first level, then half-round-up for each level.
So a barb would be 12+7 at 2nd level.
Means you don't get the crazy "wizard has more hp than fighter" situation, but also doesn't make for endless combats.

I will answer more on monday. I do ask that you specify which knowledge you are using as your primary knowledge for each one. Then roll the others anyone higher than a 10 unmodified gives you a +2 bonus (stackable) towards your final roll. THis I hoope makes sense as to the vast arrays of knowledge you have.

As for Order of Grave...

basic knowledge based from teaching:

you can think of one of three options.
    extra protection provided by Jerras probably sent in secret to protect and to watch you on delivery.

It does. For Covenant, please use Knowledge (history), modified by Knowledge (arcana), the skill that governs knowledge of dragons. Quinten is assuming Covenant is an outsider with connections to dragons, for he cannot imagine anyone else having access to dragon eggs.

I got below 10, so my final roll is still an 18.

For Jana, use Knowledge (local), modified by Knowledge (history). Quinten is assuming she has a tie to the Society for the Study of Historical Artifacts, as many people who employ Jerras meet him through it.

Unmodified History roll: 1d20 ⇒ 5

My dice didn't deliver, so my roll is still a 23.

I was not exactly sure what the plan was so I was looking at possibly going see thru and scaling to the roof to see about getting a count and possibly trying to neutralize as much of the threat as possible. Are we wanting to just rush into an area that is using magic already?

I might be able to check on the archers. Let me think." I wouldn't have rushed ahead if I'd thought you were doing something.

Also, I think I've found Quinten's combat song: Face Down by the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. I don't see Quinten fighting unless he's got an injustice to be angry about.

Understandable. Due to the fact that I was late on posting it was a side consideration, with missing a post and trying to catch up it was a side thought if the situation went differently than it did.

Shadara, you might try making stuff up. If it seems logical to you that the wall would be climbable, climb it. I don't think the play-by-post format lends itself to as many questions and answers as a face to face game, and I get the impression Herkymr is comfortable giving us broad latitude as long as what we assume fits with what has been said.

Yep... Totally agree with ya Quinten I would rather see Roleplay than Rollplay and dont feel like I need to dictate everything. IF you think your character would tryit or might try it. Then assume it can be done and tell me what you are doing. If needed give me the necessary roles as well for success etc.

COMBAT WILL BE {WHEN IT HAPPENS} VERY FREE FORM WITHOUT A LOT OF ROLLS. I WILL BE MORE INTERESTED IN FLARE AND STORY THAN EXACT ROLLS ETC. THIS DOES NOT MEAN ROLLS WILL NOT BE NECESSARY. ALWAYS DESCRIBE WHAT YOU ARE ATTEMPTING AND MAKE THE ROLES AS WELL BUT describe!!!

I've been assuming no since:
1. I can't hear Shadara talking even though she tried to speak earlier.
2. Mang posted without responding to my query.

The hot box is a scary place. We're trapped, and no one can hear us scream (but we're heroes, so it's not like we'd scream anyway).

I didn't respond to the question in game because it seemed to me like the whole room was under silence save for the dripping water. I also know that it is better to err on the side of caution with Herkymer when it comes to meta-gaming because he is REALLY strict with it.

tend to be with in reason. Yes nothing but dripping water can be heard.

MANG : the farthest area of the room from where the group is located tends to feel more damp than the other areas you notice

Amnesiac looks like a fun and extremely flexible archetype. It also lets you try spells before you commit to them, a nice boon for a spontaneous caster.

Out of combat, Quinten's song is Pretty Maids All in a Row by The Eagles, a slow song about meeting a former flame and reflecting on the past. In combat, it's Face Down by the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, a song about abuse in relationships. I like it for its implication that people will only put up with so much before they fight back, which is where I see Quinten being with the Yellow Scorpions.
