And I was still looking at the fox. It fits the setting and looks super cute and is mechanically weaker than a bat with 10 feet less blindsense, no flight, and gives me a bonus to my Fort save only if I am hot in the desert over the bat’s +3 to fly. Whatever. I’ll get a raccoon and give it the mascot archetype. I’m done talking about this familiar.

When I posted on Sunday I wanted to make a last case for the fox but say what I would take if the answer was still ‘no’. That’s what I wanted to do. What I ended up doing was smashing my argument and and my alternative statement together and just sounding like a jerk! That wasn’t what I wanted to do, I just wanted to move on to other stuff such as:
What spells do we want?
I’d like to coordinate a different spell list from Harmini. Do we really both not have spell books? Unlucky, but it is what it is. I assume we are leveling soon so what if anything are you going to pick up?
What is Bambara doing for his downtown?
Are you still getting a garden going so you can do the thing with your seed when you need to? We need to put that thing in a safe place, so I was thinking of getting a safe house. I large pot works well, but if someone steals your seed in the pot they have effectively kidnapped you! I hate that. We need to plant you in a more fortified place.

Well, if that is the case we'll need to figure out a price for a house with a garden. I'm hoping to get a safe house to protect your 'other you' while it grows and we are away.
Also, which paladin code are you getting? I'm on board with trying to help you stay true to it (the life of a paladin isn't easy). Since we are in an AP maybe we could make you the paladin of some interesting god with more chill code to live by than the LG gods. They are just so darn demanding.
As for how a paladin would sit with our current party, I couldn't say. We haven't done anything illegal yet. Or even dishonest. I did make a deal with an evil outsider, but that was while my alignment was CN and now it is NG so I won't be doing that again. I wonder if Osiris could have a paladin? what would that even look like?

Talalmackk Chirronna |

Bam,
I will remind you, as a paladin there are serious RP requirements. It's not just don't commit certain acts, it will require a much bigger investment in RP. You may have a low intelligence but you have a screaming charisma, you will need to play that up (a lot).
Paladins are powerful characters, and stacking with bloodrager is a good mechanical combo, but as mentioned before the balance to paladins are the RP elements. I REQUIRE you to work on that element or I will not allow this evolution of the character.
There are no meek paladins who just walk around and smash things with a big sword.

Talalmackk Chirronna |

Alex, as for a familiar I would like to see it have some kind of strong link to either your bloodline (especially if it is a BLOODLINE familiar), rather than a random element. Either that or something related to your characters history.
As for the history, I believe you took the blood of the pharoahs trait, so something is driving you to come to Wati. Perhaps it is something related to that trait. A hawk fits perfectly in my opinion, its a raptor so shares traits with dragons, and it is also the sacred animal of Ra (the god of the pharoahs).
The thrush will be fine but I'd rather see some deeper connection to the story of the character. As an AP there should be more conncections, the most possible is best. I will say no to the Fennec. I am sticking with my rule of no 3rd Party material.

Talalmackk Chirronna |

Bam,
One other thing... What God is an important aspect. It needs to fit the ongoing story of the character. As mentioned above with Alex, I'd like to see some connection to the characters story.
You took the Mummy's Curse trait. Maybe some kind of connection to that. Anubis is the god of tombs and he is LN and would have paladins.
I know you are focusing on the plant thing but there needs to be some more connection to the overall story. Some focus on WHY you are here, other than you followed Alex. And the fact that you want to find a way to breed is not a connection to the AP.

Now that I've had time to think about it a hawk could be really cool. I haven't said anything about my pharaoh blood so maybe this could hawk familiar could start me off on this quest to discover my lineage. Dragons, outsiders, and pharaohs oh my!
I'll give him the mascot archetype so he can be comfortable perching on Bambara. Now I just need a name. I think I'll leave it out and when we go to our next tomb, then he will pick his own name based on whose tomb it is, if my pharaoh blood is from that time period that would fit perfectly.

![]() |

I will name myself as I see fit! As the sun rises over the sands of the endless desert, so too will my master rise to take her rightful place in the clouds and as the next rightful pharaoh!
Skree!
Oh Pete, sorry I cut out early. If I could have done anything in the fight from inside that bucket or effected the game in anyway, I would have stayed but I was sure that the group had it and I failed my will saves hard. It was worth it to get a glimpse at what I'm going to be about with hitting a dude with a ton of attack roll penelties then taking thier stuff. Next time the enemies will have something to steal, I just know it. For me it was a bit of a nightmare but it was fun nonetheless.
Anyway, did I ever get out of that bucket?

Not a problem, Tally was in a bit of a bad place - playing up against creatures that didn't really fit his skill set. I think everyone found it to be a bit tough. There was actually a little discussion at the end that it was nice to have some encounters that lasted for a significant number of rounds.
Tally did help the party by a) keeping the monsters' attention on him and not on others and b) in the second big encounter making it more difficult for the bad guy to hit folks.
At the end, we determined that the party had sufficient remove curse and restoration spells to get you and Jasper's familiar out of your respective buckets and returned to your regular level of wisdom.
So that is all sorted, and I've entered the scenario with Tally getting 1 prestige for slow progression. I'll have your chronicle sheet on Thursday.
I think it's a neat replayable, and I've already started on another variant that will hopefully prove to be even weirder, more disturbing, and dangerours.

I've been thinking about that that second fight and its given me an idea of the toolkit that Tally has. If she is grouped with a melee powerhouse that has to worry about getting full rounded because they have low armor, she can keep the most dangerous thing from hitting it and everyone else. I can essentially give everyone a +10 untyped armor bonus and 50% concealment against one thing and I can do it quickly.
I had thought that she was a disarm specialist and that was it but with the levels in vexxing dodger she gained some unexpected utility. I still will never do that much damage, but that's where the team comes in. I had fun in that dungeon, climbing up a bunch of angry intestines that were flying higher and higher was horrifying and hilarious. I can't wait to see what you cook up next.

I was thinking that maybe I would go Crossblooded. It was suggestd before but the downsides turned me off to it. Thinking about it now I know it gives me a -2 to my will saves but I can even that out with the feat Iron Will and I am picking that up anyway in order to get my familiar bond feat. I do loss a known spell, but if I am building a ranged blaster I could go the elemental earth bloodline and get a wider array of damaging options. For narrative purposes we can just say its part of my dragon stuff, its all acid anyway.
Thoughts?

![]() |

Well I forgot that Precise Shot has a prerequisite, which is Point Blank. A bunch of my spells and abilities are ranged touch attacks and I will need Precise Shot, so I'll be getting those feats as my 1st and 3rd. I'll get my bloodline familiar in place of my 1st level bloodline ability and get elemental ray as my third. I will get Iron Will at 5, I still need to to get rid of my -2 from Crossblooded.
As far as my spell list is going, I have:
LvL 0
Disrupt Undead
Detect magic
Read Magic
Message
LvL 1
Snowball (turning it into Acidball with my bloodline)
Mage Armor
Burning Hands (bonus bloodline spell, renamed Acid Arc)

![]() |

A bit of a change, I will be getting Acid Splash over Disrupt Undead. Also I was thinking that for weapons I would carry a couple of kunais. They are tian style weapons and that sounds odd for the setting but there is stuff from all over the world, and I could imagine Alex liking the idea that they are melee weapons that you can threaten with, throw if you need to, and can be used as crowbars and pitons in a pinch. A proper lady respects utility.

I was also looking into the cost of a safe house for Bambara’s seed while it grows. In the downtime system of ultimately campaign, a typical house cost 32 Goods, 1 Influence, 31 Labor. This comes out to 1,290 gp. However, we don’t want a typical house, we need something with more security. When we are on our downtime, we might want to find a realtor and agree on a price point.
Is Babs into selling houses by chance? Maybe not as a job, but as a side gig?

If Bambara wants a safe house for a seed, he should multiclass Vigilante not Paladin.

Talalmackk Chirronna |

OK, couple of things...
1. Point-blank and precise is a good idea for a sorcerer.
2. Iron Will is not a bad idea, but I want to make sure you want it. Unless it is a prereq for something I am missing, I don't see you NEEDING it.
3. If you are going crossblooded you should be able to change the damage type of snowball. That is assuming it is still elemental/dragon crossblood.
4. If I am not mistaken you want to take the MASCOT archetype for the familiar. This is fine by me but understand it will lose this archetype if you take Improved Familiar. Improved Familiar does not stack with most archetypes (including Mascot) because Improved Familiar removes one of the abilities to be swapped (speak with others of it's kind).
5. Did we ever establish WHERE Alex is from? If she is from Tian she may have had the weapon from then. Otherwise, it works either way but I still am curious about more of the back story.
6. Babs is NOT a real estate agent. The costs are not exactly negotiable. You CAN however use downtime actions to raise capital to help reduce the cost a little. OR you can simply pay for it as is.
I think that is it.

I stated out and built the level 3 sorcerer and I ended up having a lot of questions. Thanks for clearing up my misconception about Acidball. As for my hawk familiar, I want him to have the mascot archetype but I will be changing that when I swap familiars. I’m thinking it gets all Dr. Fate and the hawk becomes my helmet, the symbol of my rule, something along those lines.
As for Bambara becoming a vigilante, that could be a really interesting idea, but how would he keep his identity a secret from the town? Having that safe house though, it has its perks.

![]() |

Matt brought it up and I agreed and it was certainly a joke the whole way. There is no way we could pretend that there was some OTHER plant person out there fighting crime with us. I mean it would be hilarious, but it would never work.
The idea of a Ghoran vigilante is really cool. With your seed ready you can fake your own death and you can change your personality, appearance, and skills. A great idea, but for a different AP.

![]() |

Not sure where the vigilante thing came from but...
NO. If a paladin needs more RP, a vigilante needs to be present CONTINUOUSLY. You cannot be a vigilante and play the lumbering beat stick who never posts. Sorry.
Sorry. This one was my fault. Although... maybe Bambara is just constantly in his Avenger identity? Maybe his social identity is in fact a literal tree who just plants himself somewhere and listens? Nothing in the class says you ever have to switch back n forth. Obviously, this is all wild conjecture as I could never imagine any sort of capable Vigilante having an intelligence of 5 :).

And thats why it would be neat but wasnt planning on vigilante anyway
