As bones cracked and crunhced satisfactorily Penance ducked under the counter blow. If the victim did not fall it was pretty obvious you either didn't stomp hard enough or you just needed to hurt them in more permanent ways. With your victim doubled over it's jsut a matter of putting your hand to the back of their head dn placing your knee into the back of the skull through their face.

Once again, Elric finds himself on the ground, with a sword-wielding enemy looming above him.

"This again?..."

As before, he twists his wrist to bring out his dagger, slashing out with it to provide enough space to get safely to his feet.

Activate wrist sheath to draw dagger as an immediate action. Total defence action. Stand up. AC 17 while prone, 21 once on my feet, 1/13 hp

Female Halfling Oracle/1

The sound of the waves pounding in her head, Serry will step up and take a swing at the abomination in front of them.

Five-foot step to H11, attack the skeletal warrior
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

As she swings, she spits out something that, while incomprehensibly Aquan, is almost certainly a curse worthy of her fellow sailors, judging by the tone of voice!

Elric Rivers wrote:

As Elric tries to get up, the skeletal warrior brings his sword down on the marine's shoulder, puncturing through the bone to the other side and nearly severing his jugular. Elric goes limp, as the dagger hits the floor.

I put you in K6, the princess is in K5. She is conscious but her hands and feet are bound and she is sitting on the floor.

The princess screams out, Save yourself first and Lionel too! Be careful!

Summary of Round 2:
Skeletal warrior missed
Tristain provided a flank but failed to aid another
Samantha harmed Lionel
Lionel slashed the priestess
Ulric attacked and missed Lionel
Todor slammed his warhammer into the priestess' ribs, causing her to pass out from the pain!
Penance missed his attack and moved
Elric tried to stand but got a sword in his back for his trouble
Serry moved up and swung her staff but missed

Round 3:
Pleased by his attack on Elric, the skeletal warrior tries another sweeping attack, this time focusing on the halfling first. He realized his mistake from the previous round and starts his swing low, appropriately on Serry and then brings it higher for Penance. His tactic is brilliant, as the first sword slash topples the halfling in a bloody heap of pain and screams and then proceeds to slice through the monk's ribs, leaving him barely standing. The red pinpoints of light in his eye sockets seem to twinkle at the results of his swing.

Attack on Serry: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 7 + 1 = 23

Samantha continues to bleed from Todor’s blow, as she lays unconscious on the floor.

Lionel wounded Ulric
Ulric dropped Lionel
Todor’s attack caught Ulric by surprise and the warrior went down in a bloody heap

Serry stabilized

Round 4:
The black energy surrounding the skeleton disappears. The skeletal warrior sees the skill and power of the hammer-wielding warrior and realizes it must take him out now! He ignores Penance and Tristain and moves to I7. The priest's defense is tough, but the warrior manages to thrust his sword through, puncturing Todor's ribs.

Trying to trip without the Improved Trip feat draws an AoO and I think drawing an AoO from the bad-ass skeletal warrior is a no-no, so I will let this pass as a rules mix-up and assume that Tristain just let him move on.

Summary of Round 4:
Skeletal warrior moved and wounded Todor (Penance's blow bounced off his armor)

Ulric bled
Todor attacked but the blow bounced off the warrior's breastplate
Penance's blow struck the creature's ribs, breaking some of them in the process

Female Halfling Oracle/1

Serry rolls over, spits out some blood, groans, and curses in Aquan before standing up and looking around. Noting that the marine still looks badly hurt, she'll heal him once again.

Cure Light Wounds on Elric: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

She'll check to see if Todor's channeling was enough to get Lionel on his feet. If not, she'll cast one more cure on him.

If Lionel is still down: Cure Light Wounds 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5. If he's up, then hold off on this.

Then she'll move over to join Todor next to the princess. Bowing awkwardly, she'll say, "Your Highness, it's a pleasure to meet you, though not in these circumstances. Are there any more of these people -- or things -- around, do you know?"

M Human - Loon 15 AC: 16 (12 FF) CMD (22/18) CMB +6 Fort +12; Ref +14; Will +15

"Princess, Lionel, are you okay?"

Tristain will cast Create Water and, while offering the water to others, will begin to wash away the blood, sweat, and combat filth from his hands and face.

When that is done, he will check on the possession of Ulric and the Priestess...laying them out for everyone to see.

Once freed of her bonds, the Princess thanks Todor and rushes to Lionel, putting his head on her lap. Todor’s healing stirs the guard but he is still not conscious. Serry’s healing wakes him up, and with tears in her eyes, she thanks the Halfling. She helps Lionel to his feet and says, Thank you all for your help. I am indebted to you and I owe you my life. I cannot imagine being covered in all those maggots! She shudders, as she looks at the jar. I will make sure that you are well compensated for your efforts here today. I see you are all very tired and it is near dawn. I am very eager to get back home. Thankfully, that scum over there never found this. The Princess reaches into the folds of her hair and produces a very small vial of amber-colored liquid. But it is probably best if we rest. Other than the scary looking half-orc who left, this was the extent of the group I believe.

Lionel grunts, I can walk. Ulric is dead? Great! Was it you, Abadaran? He holds out his hand in friendship. May he rot in the Abyss for his treachery! So many good men, who died..

Todor accepts the hand and shakes it heartily. "I am just glad you survived. You fought bravely and I learned much from you in this short time."

"If we are to remain here, we should ensure the rest of the cave is empty and check down the passageway by which the half-orc left."

Todor examines the altar and maggots and tries to understand what ritual was going to be performed. Just a sacrifice? Taking 20 on perception, but here's a roll if you prefer.

Tristain will create as much water is necessary for Penance and others.

When finished with that, we will begin to search the room, taking 20.

Perception: 20+9=29

Female Halfling Oracle/1

Serry will gratefully accept some water from Tristain, muttering quietly, "Thanks to the waves for all their gifts."

She'll then look carefully around the room, and also investigate the priestess's and Ulric's bodies to see if they carried any notes or other items that might give more information about what they were up to.

Take 20 on perception = 21; if you'd rather a roll, 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19.

"Resting might not be a bad idea. I don't think I can do much more tonight. This morning. Whatever it is by now."

Your search of the bodies reveals the following:

Breastplate (off skeleton)
Heavy steel shield
Beautiful longsword decorated with elven calligraphy (masterwork)
Chain mail (off priestess)

Assuming the rest of the caves are empty.

If others need healing, Todor will channel again. He is happy to take the first or last watch so he can get his 8 hours of sleep. Kodor will sleep without his armor on to avoid the fatigue.

"Perhaps in the morning we can discuss how we will return to Korvosa. I would also like to try on the breastplate the skeleton wore. It seem more effective than this armor I have on."

M Human - Loon 15 AC: 16 (12 FF) CMD (22/18) CMB +6 Fort +12; Ref +14; Will +15

"Sure Todor, let me help you try that breastplate on. See...there you go...that's a good fit."

Tristain will then pick up the fancy steel metal shield.

"You know Todor, this pure metal shield would work great with that new breastplate you got there. Maybe you want to ditch that crummy wooden shield and upgrade to pure steel? Nothing protects you quite like steel."

Tristain will bang on the steel shield, as if to show how strong and sturdy it is.

Tristain looks longingly at the Todor's bloody, bent, and battered wooden shield.

Penance is still visibly wounded. 7/13 hp. As a side note before we get too breastplate happy Ima pipe in for Elric since he doesn't post as often.

As they finish stripping the bodies, a grisly task by his standards, he begins the task of wordlessly dragging the bodie, both hobgoblin and human, out of the cave. As before he lays them side by side, crossing their arms and closing their eyes. He pays particular attention to those he's personally killed with the exception of the skeleton whom he unceremoniously dumps outside the cave. Seeing the skeleton though he makes sure that each of them are dead, seriously dead.

Yup, Elric is going to be interested in the breastplate. Todor can have the Chain mail. It makes more sense that way around, since he only has a +2 DEX modifier, while Elric has +3.

Once again, Elric is awakened by healing energy. He stands, and takes in the scene around him.

"The princess is free and safe, and none of us dead - no thanks to me."

He looks down his slashed and bloody leather armor. "Hmmm...this did not serve me well. I'll have to mend those cuts. Perhaps it would be wise to don some heavier armor while we are on land at least.

He moves over to the others.

"Thank you for the healing, Todor. You put that hammer to good use as well, I see."

Turning to the princess, he gives a slight bow, then stands straight to attention to introduce himself. "You highness, Elric Rivers of the Sable Company, at your service. I agree with my companions assesment of our current situation. Our best option seems to be to secure the perimeter of these caves, and continue on once the storm has broken."

When the talk turns to distribution of the armor and weapons.
These are good weapons and solid armor. We should use them if we can. I would like to replace my leathers with the breastplate. A leather armor is better on a boat, since metal can be certain death if you go over, but as you have seen, it is not as effective to stop blades and bolts. The other armors would slow me down too much, but perhaps the chain mail of the priestess would fit you, Todor. And as Tristain suggests, the steel shield would serve you better than your wooden.

I am well armed, but I can carry the greataxe on my back next to my hammer. And I would not mind holding on to one of those healing potions."

Once the first introductions and healing is over, Elric will don the new armor and do a brief patrol of the cave complex, making sure there are no other enemies.

"We should be safe to stay here. I'll take first watch."

Female Halfling Oracle/1

Looking over the goods taken from the bodies, Serry shrugs. "The only things there I could use are the chainmail and the breastplate, and --" she looks at the bodies -- "neither of them is going to fit, and they'd be more use on one of you. Same for the shield. The sword's gorgeous, though, someone should keep it. I'm happy to carry a healing potion if that makes sense."

When the party gets ready to rest, Serry will offer her bedroll to the princess. "I'm sure it's less comfortable than you're used to, Your Highness, but it'll be better than nothing." She'll then find a corner to curl up in, and will take whatever watch makes the most sense.
