Been at work all day but would it have been possible for me to have went with them? Penance is between Elric and Tristain in terms of stealthiness.

Sure!
Penance Stealth check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11...you were spotted as well!
Penance Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

The hobgoblin sees the three assailants and he yells Krugash, krugash! twice more down the tunnel. He grabs a dagger off his belt, as he moves 10' south toward his companion, using the fire as a shield between the party and them. He grips the dagger in his clawed hand, holding it over his shoulder and baring his teeth at the party, while he holds his light shield in the other!

DM roll:
1d20 ⇒ 18

Combat Map
To get on the map, it takes one square to move to A17 from your current positions. Elric, Penance, and Tristain are up. Bless is on, don't forget. Post your AC and HPs in post. Thanks!

Todor stands patiently waiting for the scouts. Does he happen to hear the hobgoblin shouts? Maybe. DC for a shout not listed, but a conversation is 0 and battle is -10, so maybe -5. I'm about 75' away plus a corner (closed door is +5). So maybe a DC of 8 (-5 shout, +8 distance, +5 corner/door). :) - Just killing time.

Gripping his hammer firmly, Edric steps into the cave, prepared to duck the dagger the hobgoblin will surely fling at him.

Determined, he strides around the fire to position himself where he can strike at both the hobgoblins with his longhafted hammer, and strike at them if they should try to flee.

He lashes out at the passive hobgoblin, hoping to take advantage of his confusion to land a blow.

The hobgoblin's armor indeed flies as soon as Elric steps into the run, embedding itself in his shoulder, penetrating his armor.

I will assume you move to C21 since you cannot reach the hobgoblin in E21.

As Elric launches his polearm at the passive goblin, the other hobgoblin inserts his light shield in the way, causing the marine's blow to deflect off the flat-footed hobgoblin's armor harmlessly.

Elric! Your whistle! Our allies!

Cursing under his breath, Tristain will pull his signal whistle out of his back and place it in his mouth.

He will blow 2 quick toots as he moves to B21, still clutching his 'Scythe.

"TWEE TWEET!"

::deep breath::

"TWEE TWEET!"

I got your back. Now you kill stuff.

As the three scouts leave, Serry will find three stones and cast Magic Stone on them, and load one into her sling staff.

Check to hear the whistle, if needed: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

If she hears the whistle or any of the others do and say something, she'll head into the cave to join the fight.

B21 is not correct. The hobgoblin is in E21; you can't reach him from there with 10' reach (that is 15' away)! You are in C21. Adjacent is 5' Reach, 1 square between opponents is 10' reach, etc.. Pretty simple! :)

My bad, was looking at the wrong grid. Shame... B21 is correct.

Serry Initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Todor Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21...delayed till 12 after you heard the whistle. I assume Todor and Serry run to the cave on their turn.

The hobgoblin to the south moves diagonally in, wary of the polearm, to engage Elric, drawing his longsword and slashes at the marine but the weapon's shaft interferes with his swing and it bounces off.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12...miss

Round 1 Summary:
Hobgoblin wounded Elric with thrown dagger
Elric moved in and missed
Penance moved in, shot, and missed
Tristain moved and blew whistle
Todor ran to cave entrance
Hobgoblin took swing at Elric but missed
Serry ran to cave entrace

Round 2!

DM rolls:
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

You hear hobgoblin sounds down the corridor. The alert hobgoblin sees the marine's shoulder bleeding and moves in for the kill, drawing his long sword and slashing the marine's ribs, as a spurt of blood rushes out from the wound, leaving Elric woozy from the pain and blood loss!

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24...uh oh, possible critical
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9..At 0 hit points!
Confirmation roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5...no confirmation

Modified Initiative:
Alert hobgoblin (Northern one)
Elric
Penance

Tristain

Passive hobgoblin
Serry

Tristain, since Elric moved to B21, I moved you to A22. Hope you don't mind. Still within reach of all enemies with a 5' step.

Todor will do the same thing. Trying to clog up the cooridor, but get cover from the hard corner.

Sorry for delay. I DM my RL game on Monday nights.
Elric’s hammer rips through the hobgoblin’s armor, mostly driven by his strength, but the humanoid still stands, gripping his ribs, blood flowing from the deep wound. He curses Elric in Goblin and moves in to attack with his long sword, slashing the marine across the chest, but the marine does not fall!

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Summary of Round 2:

2 Hobgoblins appeared with crossbows and wounded Penance
Tristain went total defense
Todor healed party for 4
Elric wounded Passive hobgoblin for 10
Passive hobgoblin wounded Elric for 3
Serry missed with her sling
Lionel makes it inside the cave finally!

Round 3:

2 hobgoblins with crossbows

C21

Through his years of training with the bow, Penance carefully aims at his target, confident that his arrows will not harm Tristain, before releasing them! The first arrow deflects off the hobgoblin's armor, but the second hits the hobgoblin in the upper chest, right above the protection afforded by its armor. The creature screams in pain, drops his weapon, clutches at the arrow, gurgles something incomprehensible, and falls face down, limp to the floor. A pool of blood begins to form under the body.

The crossbow hobgoblins scream at the party. The first one releases his crossbow, steps to D19, and finds his way to the monk blocked by Todor, so it draws his sword and attempts to cut the down the husky cleric, but his sword is parried easily to the side.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

The second hobgoblin steps to D20, reloads his crossbow, and shoots the monk, who reads the hobgoblin's body language and easily sidesteps the shot.

Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Bad round for me so far. Tristain, Todor, and Elric are up.

Woot. One down.

Tristain is pleased the tattoed man was able to take out the hobgoblin threatening him. So emboldened, Tristain will swing his scythe, with a prayer of hitting the remaining close target.

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20 to hit;
2d4 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4 damage.

As a move action, Trisatin will 5' step into a potential flank for Elric.

Posting from phone, no map handy. Whateve positioning to help is great.

The tide of battle turns in the party's favor, as Tristain's scythe drops another hobgoblin!

Todor stands face to face with one of the creatures for the first time in decent lighting. Abadar, I see why you keep these things out of the cities. Todor keeps his shield up and swings his hammer around it. He glances over and is glad to see Elric standing. Todor stands his ground, buying time for Penance and his arrows.

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Todor's hammer smashes into the hobgoblin's jaw, causing a spurt of blood and breaking off some teeth in the process.

Pleased to see the hobgoblins fall all around him, Elric adjusts his position so he can strike at the ones still standing. He steps up past the fire to stand between Serry and Penance, and feels safer from having allies on both sides. With a mighty swing, he tries to bring down the uninjured hobgoblin before it can reload it's crossbow.

Elric's lucerne hammer rips the crossbow man to shreds, like hot knife through butter and another hobgoblin falls. The last one, wounded by Todor, looks on very nervous and scared. Serry and Penance to go. Lionel double moves around the fire to C21.

Female Halfling Oracle/1

The waves are pounding in Serry's head again, but fortunately no words seem to be necessary. Things are getting too crowded for me to take a chance with the sling. She steps forward and swings her staff at the remaining hobgoblin.

Move to C18, attack hobgoblin in D19 -- at least I think that's the one that's still up, since that looks like the one that would have been in the right place for Todor to attack!

Attack: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 3 + 1 = 14
Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

The blow of the staff bounces off the hobgoblin's shield at the last second with little effect.

Seeing the others piling in and around the hobgoblin to beat it to death with their various implements Penance decides he has killed enough for now and lowers his bow.

Total defense this turn

The hobgoblin withdraws down the tunnel, until he disappears from sight.

Male Human Cleric 1

Are we out of initiative?

Todor waits for arrows that never come as the hobgoblin flees down the cooridor. He looks around expecting to see the tatooed man gutted by some creature that snuck up from behind, but just sees him standing there. Maybe he's in shock. Todor turns to the others to see if they nod toward pursuing the fleeing hobgoblin who might soon return with enforcements or kill the princess. And what good is a dead princess? Memorials are typically not that large or memorable for that matter.
