Heck, Lucendar, I think I am going to have to think about applying, despite myself. Let me look at the rolls and see if anything jumps out at me.

4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 5, 3) = 18
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 2, 5) = 11
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 1, 3) = 10
4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 6, 2) = 18
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 3, 6) = 18
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 4, 3) = 10
4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 3, 3) = 11
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 1) = 15

That gives me 16, 15, 15, 14, 10, and 9 to work with. I'll get a basic idea up this evening.

Silver Crusade

You said you wanted regular posters, then you are free to look at my posting record for Chi Treignial, as she is in an active game so I post a reasonable amount. I'm in the UK so its BST here at the moment.

After the first couple of days when I only had 10-12 applications, I thought it would be pretty easy to make a selection. But now...you guys are definitely making it more difficult for me! And a good combination of veteran and new posters. I appreciate the thought and will give every application its due consideration.

Lucendar, here is Gerald's witch build. I see her more as a utility character, or a perfect 5th wheel, if you take 5. She can handle some arcane, a bit of healing, and some general debuffing from her hex.

She is chaotic good, and no fan of the overly hostile lawful organizations in the area. Her background and appearance are listed in her profile.

I post pretty regularly and am located in the eastern US time zone. Thanks for considering.

I'm not going step in on this one. Have fun guys

This is Saxikath's oracle. I went halfling, because I really do like the idea of halfling-sized ships and sailors! Background et al are in the profile. Oracle with the waves mystery; combat-capable too (though nobody's tank!). I'd plan on taking the cures rather than the inflicts.

Barely enough time to read these threads, let alone post, so not applying right now. Just going to experiment with the dice-rolling function.

4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 5, 6) = 17 -> 16
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 6, 2) = 13 -> 11
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 2, 2) = 15 -> 13
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 5, 1) = 10 -> 9
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 5, 3) = 10 -> 9
4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 1, 3) = 9 -> 8
4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 3, 5) = 15 -> 14
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 3, 2) = 12 -> 10

Well, could've been worse. At any rate, I think I have it down.

I'll be away Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

JaceDK's character concept:

Terrion Jeggare aka Elric Rivers - incognito noble scion in service of Korvosa.

Human Ranger, Sable Company Archetype

Background:

In Korvosa, one can hardly throw a stone without hitting something named after the famous gentleman explorer Montlarion Jeggare or one of his descendants. It is small wonder that Terrion Jeggare grew up with a deep love of his native city. He swam in the river tha bore his name, watched ships loaded with wonders arrive at the docks run by his family and listened with rapt attention when his uncle Mercival, curator of the Jeggare museum, told stories of the heroes that made Korvosa great. Whenever he spied a flight of Sable Company Marines patrol the skies on their fabled hippogriff mounts, his heart would race, and he would dream of one day joining them, keeping Korvosa safe from above.

As a son born of House Jeggare, Terrion was introduced to the intrigues and schemes among the nobles at a young age. The Jeggare lines of credit are the fuel of most political squabbles in Korvosa, and more than once, he witnessed the lengths others would go to curry favor with his family. He detested the false displays of courtesy from nobles and merchants alike, and found it difficult to get along with his peer, always suspecting their motives for wanting his friendship. As the teenage Terrion grew more and more surly, his parents decided that a change of scenery would do the boy good. At the age of 14, he was sent to live with family in Westcrown. Little could they know that their well meant gesture could not have been a worse punishment for Terrion.

For the next five years, Terrion dreamt of returning to his beloved Korvosa. However, he was determined to do so in his own way. He dedicated himself to training his mind and body, his skill with weapons and his knowledge of warfare. His goal - to join the ranks of the Sable company, and fulfill his childhood dream of becoming a true guardian of Korvosa.

Once he came of age, he wrote his family and informed them that he had decided to travel the Inner Sea, in search of adventure and relics for his uncle's museum collection. But instead, he assumed the name of Elric Rivers (after the river that bears his true name) and boarded a ship back to Korvosa. He knew that his family name might make it easier to secure a position in the company, but he wanted to make it on his own. He would be accepted by virtue of his skills and dedication, not the size of his family's purse. And he would be sure that his fellow marines respected him as one of their own. So it was that he found himself back in his native city, content to hide behind his assumed name for now.

Thanks to his training, abilities and determination, he secured a place among those accepted to the Endrin Military Academy. Here, he excelled in every aspect of the training. After graduation, the young recruit was soon selected for a tour of duty aboard one of the ships sailing out of Veldraine to patrol Conquerors Bay beyond the great chain. If all goes well, this promising youth may rise far in the ranks of the Sable Company.

Intro:

His tour of duty on the naval vessel over, the Sable Company Marine who calls himself Elric Rivers is eager to return to Korvosa. As such, his is fairly annoyed at the delay the storm is causing, but h is determined to help the crew and passengers as best he can.

Appearance:

Terrion is a tall and muscular young man. He moves with the practiced ease of a warrior, and usually wears armor bearing the Sable company insignia as well as a bow and greatsword.

His dark hair is cut short, and his piercing steel-blue eyes don't miss much.

Personality:

Terrion is driven by a deep and profound love for the city and her people, but not for it's decadent ruler and scheming nobles. He feel he is carrying on his heritage by helping to protect it. He has little use for political intrigue, as apparent by his choice to hide his true identity.

He is friendly towards others who display the same affection for Korvosa, but has little regard for individuals motivated by self-interest and greed.

Full Background:

Galstak was a strange boy. Born of two Shoanti Barbarians formerly of the Sklar-Quah, he grew up in a small village on the outskirts of Kaer Maga.

His grandfather left the Sklar-Quah way of life many years ago becoming disenchanted with the strict ways and revenge bent mentality of his tribe. He came to Kaer Maga to make a new life but quickly found the strange city to be too busy for his likes. He moved to a small village outside of the city that happened to be composed of many Shoanti hoping for a more civilized existence. He quickly found a trade and made a family.

His first son took over the family business when grandfather became too old. His father, Kordant, scavenged and processed obsidian found naturally in the Cinderlands. Kordant would be gone for weeks at a time and return home with a cart full of the black rocks. He would shape and polish the rocks and sell them to jewelers from Kaer Maga to Korvoso. Occasionally he would get lucky and find a piece of star metal. These bits fetched a high price from the jewelers and metal works from the large cities.

In fact, Kordant used a particular beautiful piece to propose to Galstak’s mother Abinta. Abinta wore it for years until their first son was born. A few weeks after little Galstak was born his mother took the star metal amulet and flung it off the Storval Rise proclaiming it cursed. Galstak, Abinta also said, was cursed.

Galstak, to all appearances, seemed to be a normal Shoanti youth, but something was different. He seemed to know when bad things would happen. He also had the strange ability to speak a foreign language. This happened when he was scared or angry. He was able to speak this foreign language from a very early age speaking it better than his native tongue.

Galstak’s odd behavior put a lot of stress on the family. His younger siblings exhibited none of the strange behavior. They were normal Shoanti kids. Galstak loved his little brother and sister. At least they thought he was normal. But dark visions of his little brother’s fate would change Galstak’s life forever. He warned his mother about the accident that would take his brother’s life. Abinta kept a watchful eye from that point on. It mattered not, as one day when Galstak’s father was away his little brother fell from a rocky formation near the village breaking his neck, just as Galstak predicted.

Abinta had had enough. She blamed Galstak for his brother’s death saying he pushed him off the formation to make his prediction come true. Abinta demanded that Kordant do something about their cursed son. They decided to send him away to his estranged Uncle Tarrock.

Galstak’s uncle was an odd fellow. A Shoanti of the Sklar-Quah also, he was a dedicated warrior for years, although he was little undersized. At 8 years of age Galstack was only a hand shorter than his uncle. Uncle Tarrock was estranged from the quah due to his vehement view of their way of life. He was very intelligent and took to reading tomes of knowledge from all walks of life. Not satisfied with seeking civilization away from the quah, he became bent on changing everyone’s ways. Yeah, he was a real eccentric. He was eventually exiled from the quah and moved to live on his own several miles from anyone. He studied his books and trained himself in martial arts. He also became an expert on just about everything.

Uncle Tarrock took in little Galstak and made him his own son. He taught Galstak that he did not have to feel different, his abilities were a gift. He said that the tongue that Galstak spoke when under stress was a form of celestial. Galstack still did not know what that meant.

But being a big boy and a Shoanti, he would have to learn to defend himself. Uncle Tarrock taught Galstak the martial arts and Galstak grew big, strong and smart. He read uncle’s tomes, at least the ones that interested him. Religion and the ways of the Shoanti interested him the most. Uncle warned Galstak that his visions may just go away someday. Or… they may manifest into something bigger. He hoped they went away.

One day on his 13th birthday he had a vision of his uncle wasting away from some disease. His uncle warned him that not all visions are best relayed to the people they are about. That doing so could create too much stress on that person leading the predicition to come true. Galstak thought of his brother.

By his 17th birthday, Galstak’s vision had come to fruition. Uncle lay dying of something he could not name. Galstak left his uncle to find help. A week later he returned with a healer from the closest village to their home. They were too late though. Uncle had passed. He burned his uncle’s body in the traditional Shoanti way.

Galstak spent the next several days cleaning up Uncle’s belongings. He took his favorite books on religion determined to finish reading them. He also took his father’s Klar. He had need of a weapon if he was going to make his way in the world.

He decided to return to his family to see if they would have him back. Perhaps the passage of time had healed the old wounds. A vision of his mother horrified at his return led him away from that path.

Over the next year he found himself hiring on as a laborer or sell-sword. Not much action to be had, but he had a little coin in his pocket and food to eat. His visions continue though. They ranged from him missing a step at the bottom of a rope ladder to his current boss taking a knife in the back. Occasionally when he angered he would blurt out words no one could understand. Life was frustrating. His entire life situation from childhood to present made him so angry. Perhaps he could find solace in his anger.

His most recent visions have been persistent. He saw himself in a spired metropolitan city. He felt the strong need to be in this city. He described the visions to a few coworkers and they said he was describing the city of Korvoso. He decided to head to Korvoso to see what fate held for him.

Ok, I just realized I will be traveling to NY tomorrow so I won't be able to post the accepted candidates at noon, as I promised. Instead, I'm going to do so now! I think everybody that wants in has applied and if you didn't, didn't your mother tell you not to wait till the last minute? But seriously, my decision was hard enough without any more applications. If I didn't pick you, nothing personal, just picked the best stories and backgrounds that resonated with me. Galstak, great background, just couldn't pick 2 oracles, sorry! As you can see, the group is arcane challenged, but I'm sure they'll deal with it. Without further ado, here are the concepts picked:

Todor: Human cleric
Painlord: Half-elf druid
TarkXT: Human monk
Saxikath: Halfling oracle (Welcome to the PbP boards!)
JaceDK: Human Ranger

Thank you to all who applied, I appreciate all your hard work. I know how frustrating it is not to get selected. I run a deadly game (as anyone from my LoF PbP can attest) so I know where to come to get substitutes, if needed.

Players selected, congrats and I will put up the OOC thread soon. If any player selected has had a change of heart about joining the game, especially after you read the 1st post of the OOC thread, feel free to tell me now.
