In the center of the room you see an elf strung up by manacles to a pole of rock. His feet dangle unable to reach the floor. His head drops down, his clothes are but rags left barely attached to his body. No usable equipment seems on him.

There is a strange silver looking curved thing on the floor.

Going in Perception DC 17 ~ With Darkvision or a light source:
Around the bottom of the pole and in every direction a 10 foot wide swath of goo seems to be upon the floor.

You thing the silver thing is a scimitar.

Going in Perception DC 25 ~ With Darkvision or a light source:
You see lots of signs of old goo being present on the floor, walls, and all over the room. You don't see any cobwebs.

"Beware, that pile of goo around the stone plinth is likely an ooze of some kind, using the elven body as bait," says Ingvarr, sending his Dancing Lights over to the goo, he tries to identify what he thinks is the ooze.

With the skip of Hundor's lit rock and the floating torches of Ingvarr, they and the rest of the group come into the room. Most are quiet but Koldur and others simply walk into the room.

First come first served! Who checks out the elf on a pole, touches the goo beneath the pole, goes around the corner on the left. Etc.? You could also say who you are following.

Tessara gasps at the sight of her comrade strung up so but resists running forward.

Seraphina hands the cloak over to Ingvarr, the ring to Sable and lays her hand on Koldur and softly incants in Draconic and the aged dwarf disappears from view. Then she casts again, targeting Hundor, Yolanda, Sable, Koldur, Ingvarr, Rognar and Tessara. "Now we can whisper to each other and minimize the chance of being overheard." She says softly, under her breath. Though someone standing next to her would strain to understand her, they find they can hear her perfectly.

As they move in together, she casts detect magic and keeps it active as scout the area.

Hundor listens to Ingvarr and stays away from the Goo and the elf. He is not sure but continues to advance looking around the room. Likely the first one to go around the corner towards the rest of the room on the left.

If it wasn't obvious already, you don't know if the goo is a slime or even a creature. Actually from what you remember about the Xenopterid it might be Entangling Slime.

You do see the two humanoid shapes begin to emerge from the goo heading towards the group. You are pretty sure these are Xenopterids.

New things to see, new roll, though it looks like Ingvarr sees everything again!

Sable moves toward the elf leaving a 10 foot space between him and the pole. Stating as well, "To the North, they come from the goo!" With Seraphina in the way he was not going to charge, though he could start to get into flanking with Hundor.

With so much going on in front and wanting to reserve resources Rognar will enlarge Sable for round 2 for one round as a swift action and as a standard action will cast guidance on him granting him a +1 on a roll in the next round


Round 1

Yolanda also would cast bless. Bless - Each ally gains a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and on saving throws against fear effects. Rognar walks forward with the group. Koldur stands with his two weapons in hand ready for the next wave to appear.

The figures come from the goo and quickly change into their true insect forms attacking Hundor with a charge each. 11 damage after DR and two fort saves. Sable positions himself into a flank with Hundor.

Ingvarr starts his raging song, so no rage for Sable. The barbarians init will be with you for ease.

Round 1

The crystal upon his greatsword was a fiery red, its aura encompassing the whole of the blade. He didn't spring to action immediately at what he saw. Then as they came upon him he saw his elven friend flanking with him and he grinned. He quickly studied the purple creature before him.

The greatsword flashed before him cutting into the weak spot at the top of one of its legs... then cleaved to the other critter.

Cutting through the flesh of the first insect nearly taking off a leg the large blade continues its strike and falters not finding the purple critter's hide but his own. He clearly screams out in agony as the blade cuts into his leg and chest at the awkward angle.

The goo wiggles and moves with commotion and then from the goo more insects burst forth. Swarms of ticks and one the size of a cat! The blood sucking critters fall upon the group and soon you are mostly covered in them. If you are covered in a swarm see below.

Ingvarr and Drayken acted in the surprise round, with Ingvarr taking his standard action to start the raging song and Drayken doing a move action to base one of the enemies.

Raging Song Benefits: +2 Strength, +2 Constitution--which also gives +1 to Fortitude Saves, -1 AC, +2 Will Saves, and Greater Guarded Life (12 hp converted to nonlethal and autostabilize if dropped below zero hp). Battle Cry gives +1 attack and +4 save versus fear.

Still hidden Koldur works himself around the imprisoned elf and tries to see what and how the elf is being shackled. His companions should be more then able to handle the bugs.
He only saw small ones. Where were the bigger ones?
He remembered their first encounters. These were a little too small.

Seeing that combat is about to break out, Seraphina cast Shield on herself and stepped into position to receive the charging bug with her claws. I swapped my position with Yolanda's as she didn't get to act in surprise and she can still attack from behind Hundor with reach.

A tanglefoot bag is a small sack filled with tar, resin, and other sticky substances. When you throw a tanglefoot bag at a creature (as a ranged touch attack with a range increment of 10 feet), the bag comes apart and goo bursts out, entangling the target and then becoming tough and resilient upon exposure to air. An entangled creature takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls and a –4 penalty to Dexterity and must make a DC 15 Reflex save or be glued to the floor, unable to move. Even on a successful save, it can move only at half speed. Huge or larger creatures are unaffected by a tanglefoot bag. A flying creature is not stuck to the floor, but it must make a DC 15 Reflex save or be unable to fly (assuming it uses its wings to fly) and fall to the ground. A tanglefoot bag does not function underwater.

A creature that is glued to the floor (or unable to fly) can break free by making a DC 17 Strength check or by dealing 15 points of damage to the goo with a slashing weapon. A creature trying to scrape goo off itself, or another creature assisting, does not need to make an attack roll; hitting the goo is automatic, after which the creature that hit makes a damage roll to see how much of the goo was scraped off. Once free, the creature can move (including flying) at half speed. If the entangled creature attempts to cast a spell, it must make concentration check with a DC of 15 + the spell’s level or be unable to cast the spell. The goo becomes brittle and fragile after 2d4 rounds, cracking apart and losing its effectiveness. An application of universal solvent to a stuck creature dissolves the alchemical goo immediately.

Cling (Ex)
If a creature leaves a tick swarm’s square, the swarm takes 1d6 points of damage to reflect the loss of its numbers as several ticks cling to the victim. A creature with ticks clinging to it takes swarm damage at the end of its turn each round. As a full round action, the creature can remove the ticks with a DC 16 Reflex save. At least 10 points of damage from any area effect destroys all clinging ticks. The save DC is Dexterity-based.
