About Ingvarr BattlecallerAppearance and Personality:
Fair of hair and dazzling of smile, Ingvarr is a pleasing blend of human and elf. Clad in simple green and brown traveling clothes and a well-used chain shirt, he is seldom seen without a book nearby--and never seen without his ornate signal horn tethered to his side or in his hand. Many a pilgrim has seen him sitting atop his wagon with its payload of books, moving swiftly along the country roads, and those who stop to talk with him often find a book in their hands as they part. Yet beneath the genial surface, there is a hardened core. The shortsword at his side is well-worn, and the bow over his shoulder also shows he is fully capable of defending himself. He doesn't speak much of his time with the Star Elf soldiers, but it certainly prepared him to face battle. Background:
The son of a human priestess of Shelyn and a star-elven warrior, Ingvarr had a sheltered early youth at the temple. He learned to love music and reading, and developed a spiritual connection of his own with his mother's deity, though he did not follow in her ecclesiastical footsteps. Still, before he left home with his father, Serena gifted him with an item blessed by the power of Shelyn--a simple silver circlet to match the silver songbird holy symbol he already wore around his neck. His father, worried that Ingvarr would be too soft to survive in a harsh world, send him to train with his star-elven kin. He learned to attack and defend, to advance and withdraw, and how to follow orders in the face of daunting enemies...Yet his heart remained with Shelyn, and in the cool of the evening he would often be seen reading or softly practicing his music. Those years were tough, but good for Ingvarr--until that last day. The roving bands of goblinoids attacked their patrol, and they were overrun. What had started as a rare treat to spend the day with his father ended in a bloodbath, and a wounded father handed Ingvarr the patrol's signal horn, a family heirloom made of the rare material 'Singing Steel' and emblazoned with the Battlecaller sigil. Ordering him to ride to the nearby hilltop and call for help, Errol turned to face the oncoming horde. With tears in his eyes, Ingvarr did as he was told, sounding the horn louder than he had ever played it. The soldiers of house Soren thundered to the rescue, but much of the patrol was lost and Ingvarr's father was nowhere to be seen. From that moment on, the horn never left his side, but Ingvarr left the fields of battle and returned to his mother and his books. Learning the craft of bookbinding well, he eventually struck out on his own, carrying knowledge on the page far and wide, helping establish small temples or libraries in frontier towns. His latest such project is in the small town of Iron Peaks, where warriors yet train for battle against those who would do harm to their nation. Yet waging war is more than swinging a sword or firing a bow. Knowledge of many battles waged in past ages allows the warrior to strike where and when the need is greatest, and love for one's countrymen motivates the soldier to risk it all for his nation--that is how Ingvarr plays his part...for now.
