Grum looked at the kitsune and said "Shut it, foxling. He's just a guard. 'Ain't gonna do anythin' just cause ye cry about it."

i'm doing the prison scene as a human, btw. 'w'. started it before I figured out what I wanted to do entirely.

Heck no! Go for a third. I love themed parties.

I mean, beyond that, Gestalts in general mean we're going to be very different. Like I sphere cast, and he punches people. :3

besides we don't know who we'll end up with at the end... well besides me and Jerard(who hasn't made a character yet 'w').

Roleplaying:

"Curious. There seems to be an epidemic of innocent folk being falsely incarcerated in this particular establishment" observes yet another occupant of the cell. "It's a right tragedy."

This is Johnnycat

prison:
"I agree. It seems as if it's some sort of scam to lock people up and extort coin from common folk!"

RP

"Nay...can't say I agree. Nay me first time here. Usually they jus yell at ye and slap a fine. We been here tae long. That...and where be the drunks? The paupers? The usual riffraff? Ye lot nay seem tae be the normal kind. Doesnae feel right..."

Grum trailed off as he absentmindedly tugged on his graying beard.

"Not that I usually care, but ye lot really say ye be innocent? Last time I saw somethin' like this, some local lordling tried tae press me intae his army. Lost me plenty o' gold an' time. Only got some scars in return..."

Prison:

"Of course I'm not innocent. I'm a class-A charlatan, sir. A regular scoundrel. No, I merely framed an absurd situation with a properly absurd stating of the thing. That is to say, you'll never find such a concentration of innocent men than in a prison cell."

"now that you mention it... that does seem a likely outcome," replies the bald man in the cell nearby, "though i've not experienced it myself. Honestly, this is the first time I have been on this side of the bars."

"Well I'll be! An honest conman. Seems like a contradiction. Probably just means ye be good at what ye do. Hands tae yeself, aye?"

Then, turning to the bald man. "Pray tae ye God that it just be a fine then, eh? What happened tae me is that they rounded up everyone who looked like they could swing a sword or throw a spell. Those like me an' our honest friend were pressed in for our crimes. Those who were innocent were convicted anyways. Called us the 'free company' they did. Bastards."

"But eh! Look at the bright side. Been far tae quiet these years. A nice good border skirmish or blood feud, might well be fun."

"You didn't even get any war spoils? I heard there's profit to be made..."

Prison:

Rodrick waves off Grum with a scoff "We're both locked away, mate. Even if I were so inclined, there's nary I thing I could take. Unless you've squirreled away a bit of coin in that beard of yours."

"Sneak-thief, ye'll keep ye hands off me beard and out o' me pants. Follow that simple rule, an' I'm sure we'll get along jus' fine."

Then, turning back to the as-of-yet unnamed bald man...

"An' to answer ye question, nay, we got nay spoils o' war. Us free company were used as the vanguard, ye ken? Send us in first, soften up the foes. Keep their own soldiers behind us, to follow through with the attack an' to kill any o' our deserters. I made it through the first battle jus' fine. Managed tae sneak away before the next. That's the thing about it. Forcin' people to fight an' die for ye, nay inspire any loyalty that way. But iffin' ye only expect them to soak up some arrows and drag some spears down with 'em...well, good enough. But hey! Was fun, in its own way."

Finally, he called to the guard.

"Oi! Guardsman! What d'ya say? Gonna be another fine, or we be the start o' a press-gang?"

Dotting, thinking a Sun Warrior Mageknight / Swashbuckler or Fighter. Will post more when it's not 03:30 AM.

That's exactly what I'm doing! Theme is "human katamari," though I'm currently debating whether it's worth taking the feat hit to be a gnome or halfling in exchange for the humor of being a tiny dude riding around on a ball of animated random objects.

...this build is getting weird, hmm.

@Grumbaki: Speaking of arsenals... I've now got a character who, at higher levels, should be orbited by a solid cloud of weaponry (and armor!) which he can draw from as a swift action (right now he's only orbited by a cloud of ammo and pebbles). Spheres of Power is *weird,* but I do like the idea of animating and donning a different suit of floating armor every few levels.

Prison:
In the corner of one cell, a pile of rags groans. And shakes, and groans again. Zanton flops over on one side, squinting at the nearest torch, and rests a hand on his bruised forehead. In Doran City, the jail cells would never be this primitive, he complains internally, It's times like this I miss the East... to think that they'd treat a wright like me to such a disappointing bed... and then he remembers the experiments, and the accident, and the exile.

Bits of the previous night begin to filter back, as well. The boisterous gnome had been in a dozen tavern brawls in the past few years, none ending nearly this badly... but people out here in the center of the continent tended provincial, and oh boy could the city guards hold a grudge. And the man who teased the halfling bard for his height really should have had the decency to mention he was the mayor's son before the Steel-Singer put every fork in the bar through his legs...

What happens next will depend on just what he's being charged with, and the penalty involved. Slowly, and wincing again, he sits up, leaning against the wall of the cell, as he scans the jail for unattended objects. Without his brushes, this could be tricky—but not too tricky.

To Tenro:
::Echhh. Right. I hear you, psychic. But what are you actually in for, and is this the sort of jail where they hold people before an execution? I'm trying to figure out just how good or bad an idea it is to tear this place apart.::

PRISON
Off to the side, near the back wall a figure groans and looks up from the ground where he had been tossed earlier. He quietly and calmly sits up and retrieves his hat (a wide brimmed, deep brown one that somehow ended up in there with him :p) and returns it to its place atop his head.
Gracefully and confidently he rises and walks over to the bars to the cell and watches. Just watches.
He sees the guard. He sees the dwarf behind him. He sees the counter, and the coffee atop that. Beyond that, the open door. And the sunshine. Ohhh the sunshine would feel goooood.
And so he waits. Waits for the moment the guard turns to yell at the dwarf, tips his hat and -poof- he dissapears.
Rapearing next to the counter he deftly picks up a mug and pours himself a cup. He then leasurely walks to the front door with his mug and looks outside. After a quick stretch in the warm sun, he turns around and faces the cell once more. With but a smile and another tip of his hat; -poof- and he is back in the cell just as the guard turns around back again, oblivious to his passing. Heh. 'Nother perfect shift.

Coffee in hand he walks up to the dwarf with an easy gait and offers him the half-empty prize
Thanks mate. Heres a share for you. he says with a cocky smile.
You were saying about these press-gangs. What did they pay? Or rather who did the paying?
----------------------------
----------------------------

Hia :)
Not sure what I am going to create, but in the meantime I will use this voice for the recruitment. Once I actually come up with a character then this one will just dissapear into the night, if its different :p
I also dont normally take that many liberties but it was an intro \^_^/

I am not sure what I will actually go but the first idea (and where this "voice" came from) was some sort of roguesh, teleporting character full of charm and belief in his own luck/destiny.
I was also thinking of taking the Focus Casting tradition where the item is his lucky (or magical) hat and he has to grab or hold his hat to use his magic. (If you would allow it)
Elsewise, he will probably be an incanter/rogue or something, I still have to try and figure out those mechanics. But human male, charming, warp caster. Probably good thievery/social skills.

I have a few different ideas, but mostly I need to read more of the spheres wiki and see what comes to mind :)
A Shifter or something that "grows" into what it wants, maybe combined with an unarmed class was another idea.
Try and figure out something that I could do/use with the Enhancements bestow Intelligence...
I dont know :) but this is good enough for now.

As Zamiel watches the antics of some of his fellow captives, he can't help but be amused. This definitely has signs that point to something else at play here.

to Zanton:
::well when i came here, i didnt have a lot in the way of money. People were so generous, always seeming to want to give me a few coins, comp my inn stay or meal and drinks, etc. I guess i must've picked the wrong person and they wised up to me. Looks like i'm not the only one that could walk out of here. I wanna see how this stuff plays out, however.::

I'm trying to create an item using SoP guidelines. Anyone willing to check my work?

Creation:

Creation following SoP guidelines. Viewable here
Base Form: Spellbook Travelling [10 gp]
Primary Effect: Spellbook has an infinite number of pages.
Sphere: Creation (Create); Complexity 1.
Caster Level: 10th
Duration: Increased Duration (1 hour/level); Complexity +6
Additional Variable: Permanency; Complexity +2
Primary Effect Cost = 900gp

Secondary Effect: Pages can be taken from and replaced in Spellbook without damaging Spellbook.
Sphere: Creation (Alter); Complexity 1.
Caster Level: 10th
Additional Variable: Multiple Effect; All effects except the most expensive by 1.5.
Secondary Effect Cost = 300 gp

Secondary Effect: Spellbook stores pages magically to retain size.
Sphere: Bend Space (Extra dimensional Storage); Complexity 2
Caster Level: 10th
Additional Variable: Mixing Effects; Multiply the less expensive cost by 2
Secondary Effect Cost = 300gp

Total Cost = 1500 gp

You know you don't really need to craft a special book for Spellcrafting, right? XD Unlike a Wizard's spellbook, it's basically just a notebook with information - literally, a blank book with one or two hundred pages (not even magical!) would be more than good enough as long as you have the Create Spell Book feat so you can write stuff down.

I don't even have a spellbook or prepared caster drawback. What I want is a book with literally infinite pages because reasons. I didn't see a pricing for any normal notebooks or anything at first glance, so I went with a travel spellbook.

Well, in that case, I feel like it would be a Wondrous Item. Start your pricing there. The biggest existing book I can remember off the top of my head is the 1000-page Blessed Book, and infinite anything is pretty powerful, so it definitely shouldn't cost less than that item.

Of course, I'm not the GM here, so it's ultimately up to them to decide how they want to do it. XD

Are you trying to use it like an Infinite Scrollcase?

Looking at the SoP page there isn't really a way to do it using the wonderous item since the greatest effect you can get is "at-will, 50 charges". I think it's more in-line with a Robe of Infinite Twine in usefulness (unless there's some uber-broken application for paper that I'm not aware of. Obviously, I have things I want to do with it but it's not particularly nefarious) and that's only 1,000 gp. 'Course, I'm biased.

Tenro wrote:

Hey, that's a pretty cool item I wasn't aware of. Right now all I'm trying to do is play "Read or Die: the RPG" so I just need a boatload of paper. That'd be an awesome effect to add on to the book later when I have more cash.

Wondrous Items can be more than at-will with 50 charges, actually. That's an option, not a requirement. Of course, if you want to have an at-will talent-based item, you might actually want to look at Craft Rod instead... and as a GM, I'd accept a simple explanation, like "A book that can always create more pages". XD 'Cuz if you try to make one item do too many things, the price gets very crazy, very quickly...

That's fair. I'm pretty satisfied with the way I had stated it up (create effect limited to paper with permanent duration, alter effect, storage effect). I look it like a piece breakdown and pricing of one big effect. Obviously I think the price is reasonable too. The first time I tried to build it I ended up at 11,250gp and a "lol wut?" response.

We'll see what the GM has to say about it, I guess. I'm still hoping to hear back from him on a few things.

Prison: trying to keep RP going
"So i take it here everyone is innocent in the respect that we'd never admit to having done anything wrong, but probably DID do something wrong. Perhaps even similar to what we allegedly did wrong." He pauses, a slight smile for those looking his way. "so, uh... how long do these things usually take? Are we getting breakfast soon?"

Prison:

"I wouldn't count on it. If you had any foresight you would've eaten before being falsely imprisoned." Rodrick swing his legs onto the bench and casually lays down while speaking.

RP

Grum looked at the mage in the hat and his coffee with distrust, before eyeing the guard. He wondered how long it would take for the man to realize that one of his prisoners had escaped. Ignoring the chatter around him he said in an even tone: "Lad, I suggest ye get back in 'ere 'fore the guard notices ye. Iffin' he doesn't know ye can get out, best ye wait to do somethin' like this until ye need tae. Ye ken?"

OOC

What's the timeline on when characters need to be finalized and for this to start?

@Rodrick's item: It's actually significantly less powerful than a Blessed Book (because it lacks the money-saving utility) or an Infinite Scrollcase (because of the lack of skill bonuses). 1,500 gp doesn't seem unreasonable, though I'd probably have it start out at a certain size (1,000 pages) and then expand more by adding additional mojo.

Prison:
Well, THAT escalated quickly. Damn. If only they'd served breakfast already, I'd have some weapons to work with...

Telepathy to Zamriel:
::It might play out badly. The loud dwarf just announced to our guard that we've got a teleporter in here... any chance you can make sure he doesn't notice, or forgets what he just heard?::

Hey everyone, just a head's up. I'm going to be out this weekend. Please send any questions either to Bandw2, or Jerard Reagan, if they cannot answer from their knowledge, they'll give me a text/call.

@Rodrick I'm fine with you creating your item, but infinite anything is pretty powerful, I'd be okay with starting it out for 1,500 gp and 1000 pages. Kind of like making it a living book, and you'll just have to pay a bit more gold/mojo to add more. In theory it'd be infinite, but still have a cost to it.

@Grumbaki Recruitment will be ending at the end of Tuesday next week. Play will promptly start on Wednesday.

RP:

The guard stands where he is, seemingly oblivious to the teleportation of one of the prisoners. After Grum finishes speaking to Joseph the guard stiffens up, and salutes an unseen visitor. He quickly comes into view, a tall elf with blondish gray hair, wearing long flowing ornate robes, with a scroll in his hand. He clears his throat and in his best announcement voice, he speaks: "I have come to collect prisoners for trial. These prisoners are... Marco The Arsonist... Jerard The Thief... Rodrick the Cutthroat. You three are to stand before trial in the Majesty's court, to explain your actions. Come forward one at a time to receive your bindings and escort to the court.. To those who are to remain here, a small breakfast will be served by the end of the hour."

With that he turns to walk away, but after taking two steps he turns back around. "Grum... You're free to go, you know your way out. I would tell you to stop winding up in here, but I know that's a waste of breath."

As he continues to walk out, three more guards walk past him to the front of the cell. They open it up and wait for the first named prisoner to step forward. One of the guard says "Come now, the quicker we do this, the quicker we can get you free if that is what the court deems."

I give a hearty laugh. "Finally a trial where I can prove my innocence!"

Shouldn't be that hard to convince a few people I did nothing wrong, any ladies in the room should fall to my whim easily.

I walk to my door and await my shackles to what I believe to be guaranteed freedom.

Grum looked at his temporary compatriots and gave an awkward nod. It felt strange to be the only one walking free.

"Best o' luck tae ye, laddies. Suppose these means nay press gang this time. But iffin' ye get out, come find me weapons cart. Will give ye a friend's deal, or share a cold one with ye iffin' ye care!"

With that he began to walk out. Flashing a smile at the elf, he said "Got nay desire tae be back 'ere laddie. Stay well tae next time!"

Prison:
"oh, i see. Well at least there will be breakfast. I was hoping for something more exciting." Zamiel says, watching the selected prisoners be escorted from the area.

Prison:

Rodrick is the next to step forward, offering his hands to the guards. He clicks his tongue as they bind him, saying "Careful, dear, you'll bruise me. I'm a delicate thing, you just can't be rough with me."

Made an alias for roleplay; link to the almost-complete character sheet is in the profile. This is Whiskey, by the way.
Character concept is the son of what were refugees from the west, generations ago, and who's part of a movement focused on re-discovering their cultural heritage.

Prison:
The squeaking and squealing of the cell joints sends Kosta jerking awake, hands over his ears and moaning. Falling out of his cot, he crawls over to the door and pulls himself up by the bars. His nose is badly broken and, from the way he's moving, so are a few of his ribs. His eyes are bloodshot - clearly, he had a good time last night.

Still slurring a bit, he looks up at the guards and hisses Wh... water... myaaa... He slumps back down.

Great idea! Hadn't thought of using our profiles for character sheets. Yes, I know that you have a link to your character sheet, but still, thanks for the idea.

I've got my updated (though not given final approval by GM yet) character up on my profile.

Quite happy to have a place to put the information that can be edited in the future, and which doesn't clog up the thread.

This is very common on these forums, and generally the preferred way to show such information. Generally, though, I wouldn't recommend creating a profile for a recruitment RP, because you might wind up with an unused profile as a result.

Background is up, I'd appreciate it if someone more familiar with Spheres of Power check my work.

Kosta Hemavand wrote:

I think you're 1 talent short. You should have 4 talents + glory as a bonus but it looks like you've only selected three + glory. Other than that I didn't see anything.

Kosta Hemavand wrote:

On it. Let's see (I might make one or two mistakes here, but...)

1) You need a lot more talents. Sun Warrior gains Glory as a bonus talent. Touch of Light gives you a second bonus talent. You gain two talents from your class levels, but an additional two for being a caster. That means you should have 6 talents total (and need two more).

(Personally, I'm a big fan of encompassing light—essentially your sword cuts out beams of light that bump up its damage and give you 10' reach, increasing at higher levels. Lingering Glow is awesome for stacking buffs together, but dipping into a second sphere is also not a bad idea)

2) Currently, you take no penalties from using a buckler, other than losing Dervish Dance—but if you replace Dervish Dance with Slashing Grace (scimitar), you can gain a free +1 to your AC. Otherwise, you may be interested in Somatic Casting, to take advantage of that free hand.

3) Your tradition is a bit odd (not bad, just want to make sure you understand it). Currently, every one of Kosta's spells is Silent and Still, but they also all give off a feeling of wind and smell of incense strong enough that everyone within 30 feet that let even untrained spellcasters identify the effects you're using. Basically, your magic is sort of the traditional Psionic type with obvious manifestation signs but no actual ritual on your part. It may also be worth checking out Boons if you're interested in adding somatic or verbal components to your spells.

* * *

Prison:

"Well... certainly an expedient justice system, I'll say that. Though where I come from, we don't name those awaiting trial as though accusations were fact."

Thank you; I hadn't known about the free two for being a caster. Somatic components is not a bad idea, I'll look into it.

I am back in the cell when I offer you the cup of coffee. I teleported out, grabbed the coffee and then teleported back in. Apparently I didnt manage to do it unnoticed like I had thought ^_^
The man tips his hat at the dwarf as a sign of respect as he starts to walk free. I appreciate the kind offer. Ill be 'round there some time soon. He flashes a smile before retreating to a corner and sitting down.
-------------------
-------------------

So heres where I am at so far.
I am going Incanter with the Warp Sphere and talents like Extradimensional Storage, Quick Teleport, Teleport Beacon, and teleport trap. I am also thinking about taking the personal warp drawback, which would make me slippery.
Or/and? I was also looking at the telekinetic Sphere and wondering about creating a guy who was a master of space (or at least a small bubble of it), where (assuming I have enough talents) he can teleport people within this area, push people around, lay teleport traps and whatnot.
I still have no idea what the other class should be :/
Rogue is one idea (flavor wise) but I wont be doing much damage.

Also, on using his hat for his Focus Casting, I had an idea. Would it be alright if I had a Bookplate of Recall like effect on it? That way I could lose it (semi)often only to have it reappear nearby (like say, drifting out of a window to the ground beside us just after we ran out of the tower, or something). Maybe give the GM control on how and when it does. I can also use the Teleport Beacon ability on the hat itself, therefore if I lose it, I can just call it back to me (for a spell point, 3 hour limit), so I have that as well.

@Joseph: Be mindful of the limits on teleportation. At level 3, even with the talent that increases your telekinesis by one size class of objects, you can only affect small creatures (medium at 5, large at 8, and that's only with a lot of talents focused on it).

Are casting traditions required?

Specifically by the rules, no. As you'll note on the wiki, they're an optional rule. However, it's usually worth taking at least one or two general drawbacks, if only because of the extra spell points they'll give you (it can be more efficient in the long run to take two drawbacks and, say, a Metamagic feat to overcome it - like Still Spell and Somatic Casting (2) - than taking the Extra Spell Points feat, so if you think you'll ever want to have more spell points...).

There's enough variety to match most character ideas. Focus Casting is pretty solid if you tie it to something you wear, and Magical Signs is good for anyone who doesn't plan to be stealthy.

Just dropping by to show Jerard and I are still available to answer questions, but well it looks like they've been answered already.

Yeah, I honestly Enjoy Casting Traditions, they let you have physical/mechanical effects to how you cast but ultimately maybe you want the unrestricted magic and they're all still pretty much balanced.

@Joseph, on your second class, maybe unchained rogue would be nifty if you plan on doing melee, if not and you want to focus more on your magic, Thaumaturge might work well. If you want to push people around maybe Destruction sphere with the Air Blast type, which allows you to make bullrush attempts at range or from an explosive point. About your item, I think it's best if you waited til the GM was back, there's a bit more you want to do with than I think I can describe well in a text. :P

Alright, updated and ready to go. Thank you for the help.

Just want to give a public shout out to Rodrick, who has really helped me with my character build. A few changes took the dwarf from being a pretty bland pugilist, to someone who has already seriously increased his damage potential at lvl 3 and who by lvl 8 will have his fists hitting with enhanced acid and shock damage.

So yes, a big thank you is in order.

I appreciate the shoutout, hopefully everything works out for the best.

I'd like some more input from fellow sphere users. What do you think of this as a boon:

Requires (Focus Casting). If your focus has an enhancement bonus, you may add that bonus to attack and damage rolls for your sphere effects.

Yes? No? Broken?

Sounds pretty close to the Destructive Focus item special ability or the greater version of it, i dont remember.

I'm not an experienced sphere player so i cant comment on balance.

Oh, that's a good point. I'll have to rethink it then.
