Zelera |

Zelera realized the issue of being in the hallway since she would be seen when he comes down, and instead stayed inside the room next to the door ready to move out into the hallway and towards the Baron's room once he was inside of it. She thought at Waffles, Tell me when the Baron has entered his room and closed his door.
In that case Zelera will stay in the room next to the doorway and listen for him to come downstairs. Once he is in his room she'll go out into the hallway and head towards his door.

Colwyn the Toad |

Colwyn lies in wait just behind the door of one of the adjoining bedchambers, ready to slip out and come up behind Drelev once he descends the stairs and walks down the hallway.
Stealth: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (12) + 18 = 30
Hiding inside room M41

Niadroub Kliip |

Waffles hustles Numesti into the same room that Colwyn is hiding in, and then he turns invisible. As Zelera requested, he telepathically notifies the party of the Baron's actions.

GM_DBH |

Those of you not in the room should be in room M41. Maray is in room M40. The Baron will come in from room M39 through the secret passage.
Yala will save her potion of disguise and get the f*!! out of the room! Drelev keep is on lockdown, where is a completely unknown woman supposed to have come from and gotten into the personal quarters without the Baron being informed?
Are you ready?

Zelera |

Am now.

Marten Lebeda |

Surely Maray is a very resourceful courtesan and can smuggle in a friend for a special tryst with the Baron!
Anyway, off to the closet with all of us.

GM_DBH |

Baron Drelev is quick to respond to Maray's whispered Message spell. Hustling down the stairs and into his room like a randy bull.
He brings two guards with him, who are left in the hallway and promptly crouch down to play dice when the Baron hurries into his room.
He pauses to splash on a rather awful cologne and comes into Maray's room with a big smile. "You called my dear?"
Everyone can now act!
Drelev keep 4th map updated. Use it for this.

Colwyn the Toad |

Colwyn kicks open the door and leaps into the hallway to skewer the first of the dice-playing guards from behind.
Rapier sneak attack vs Yellow: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 5d6 ⇒ (2) + 3 + (3, 4, 4, 2, 3) = 21
If he survives, I will use an immediate action to mark him as my Studied Target after hitting him with my sneak attack.

Marten Lebeda |

Marten is out directly after Colwyn, and moves to engage Drelev.
"Knave! Your rotting domain is a reflection of your incompetence as a leader!" he shouts.
Intimidate/Antagonize: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (10) + 18 = 28
Come at me bro!
Yala quaffs an ironskin concoction.

Niadroub Kliip |

Niadroub Kliip is annoyed with himself for snickering at Waffles' comment about Drelev expecting the wrong kind of "action," so his frown is as much for himself as it is for the corrupt baron. He casts icy prison on the man as soon as he enters the room.
Expending an arcane reservoir point to make the DC 21 reflex to partially negate.
Cold damage: 11 = 11
Out in the hallway, flittering above Colwyn's head, Waffles exhales mightily to envelop the two guards with his breath weapon. A glittery, tinkling mist wafts in a cone past the guards.
Breath Weapon (Su) 5-foot cone, euphoria for 1d6 rounds, DC 12 Fortitude negates. Creatures affected by euphoria are staggered, sickened, and immune to fear effects for the duration. A faerie dragon can use this breath weapon once every 1d4 rounds.
Breath Weapon cooldown: 1d4 ⇒ 1

Vibenia Scaeva |

Silent and deadly, Vibenia pops up from the side of the bed, sinking a shot deep into the Baron's side.
+1 Veering Heavy Crossbow/PBS/Favored enemy (Human)/Deadly aim: 1d20 + 17 + 1 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 17 + 1 + 5 - 2 = 38
Piercing/Magic/Favord enemy (human)/ Deadly aim: 1d10 + 1 + 1 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 1 + 5 + 4 = 15

GM_DBH |

Fort save vs Breath weapon Yellow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Fort save vs Breath weapon Green: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Yellow scrambles to draw his weapon, Green stares into space with a dazed look.
ref save vs Icy prison: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31
The Baron avoids Niadroubs spell. Evasion.
His face flushes with anger at Marten's words. He advances, drawing a different weapon than the one he hoped to be using.
Maray zips out of the room, not wanting her silky skin marred. :)
Vibenia puts a bolt into the Baron.
Zelera, you still have an action
You can all act again. Ambushes are fun when they work.

Niadroub Kliip |

Well, dang. I've foolishly selected the overwhelming of my spells that use a Reflex saving throw. Not a lot of options otherwise.
Niadroub Kliip begins the incantation for a magic missile spell, but he adds a bit extra to give it more "oomph" which is totally a legitimate way of talking about arcane magic.
Magic missile + Toppling Spell + Good Hope.
Force damage: 5d4 + 5 ⇒ (2, 2, 3, 1, 1) + 5 = 14
Trip maneuver check + Good Hope: 1d20 + 11 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 11 + 4 + 2 = 23
Out in the hallway, Waffles casts open/close on the door to the Baron's room. M39

Zelera |

Knowing that the room where the baron was being assaulted was crowded and, seeing Maray retreat into the room she was in, Zelera gave her a nod and said, [b}"Stay behind me."[/b] She opened the door next to her and stepped back so she could see into the hallway and support Colwyn with her dagger in hand.
So I open the door and step into my current square. I think that is two moves?

GM_DBH |

Niadroub puts a Magic missile with some extra "oomph" into the Baron, who sadly stays standing.
Zelera Moves out into the hallway.
Waffles shows he doesn't understand privacy and opens the the door to M39.
Zelera, Vibenia & Colwyn still have an action
@Zelera. Getting out to the hallway counts as 1 action. You can do something this round. Yellow is badly wounded. Green is stoned off his t#*&.

Zelera |

Not actually going out into the hallway but I am where I can see out now.
With the ability to see the guards in the hallway Zelera hurls her dagger at the nearest one.
+1 returning adamantine dagger w/into melee: 1d20 + 13 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 13 - 4 = 211d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Vibenia Scaeva |

Operating in deathly silence, Vibenia sends bolt after bolt hurtling toward the Baron, seeking to bring him down,
+1 Veering Heavy Crossbow/PBS/Favored enemy (Human)/Rapid shot: 1d20 + 17 + 1 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 17 + 1 + 5 - 2 = 23

Piercing/Magic/Favored enemy (human): 1d10 + 1 + 1 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 + 5 = 9
+1 Veering Heavy Crossbow/PBS/Favored enemy (Human)/Rapid shot: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 1 + 5 - 2 = 12
Piercing/Magic/Favored enemy (human): 1d10 + 1 + 1 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 1 + 1 + 5 = 17

Colwyn the Toad |

Colwyn demonstrates his best approximation of a formal fencer's lunge as he takes a heavy step forward and begins to perforate the next guard.
Attack 1: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
Attack 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
As his attempt proves, though, he has no actual formal fencing training.
Well that was embarrassing.

GM_DBH |

Vibenia hits the Baron twice.
AC27.
Colwyn hits his Flat footed opponent with his first attack.
Do your damage, Sneak attack goes on it. :)
If he's still alive his action will be yelling for aid and drawing his weapon.
The Baron is enraged and swings at Marten for his insults.
longsword: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26
longsword: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
damage: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Hitting hard and showing he can fight at least.
Everyone can act again. Ambush seems to be working. :)

Marten Lebeda |

Marten absorbs the hit on his shield and swings in return, dueling sword against dueling sword, in the fashion of how the swordlords settle their disputes.
1. Falling Leaf attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 16 = 17
2. Falling Leaf attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
3. Falling Leaf attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
The natural 1 obviously misses. Maybe #2 hits? Seems unlikely but I'll roll damage in any case.
2. Falling Leaf damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Yala drinks her dragonblood mutagen. Her jaw expands and becomes a toothy maw, her arms enlongate and become spindly and clawed, and scales sprout across her face and neck! She leaps into action against the baron's guards!
Standard to drink the mutagen, so then she moves into melee range. Mutagen + ironskin puts her AC at 21.

Vibenia Scaeva |

Seeing the tide definitely in thier favor, Vibenia takes her time with her next shot, loading a metal bolt with a glass section in the middle, filled with acid, as she deftly scores another shot on her prey.
+1 Veering Heavy Crossbow/PBS/Favored enemy (Human)/Deadly aim: 1d20 + 17 + 1 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 17 + 1 + 5 - 2 = 35
Piercing/Magic/Favored enemy (human)/ Deadly aim: 1d10 + 1 + 1 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 1 + 1 + 5 + 4 = 19
Acid bolt: 1d6 ⇒ 2

Colwyn the Toad |

Damage w/ Sneak Attack: 1d6 + 3 + 5d6 ⇒ (6) + 3 + (1, 3, 5, 2, 1) = 21
"Wha? Really?" Colwyn mutters, surprised that his target was caught so unaware as to fall prey to such a clumsy strike.
"Oh well. Wretched for you, I suppose."

Zelera |

Waiting to see what happens from Colwyn's attack since it heavily influences my action.

Niadroub Kliip |

Niadroub Kliip casts his extra-oomphy magic missile again.
Magic missile + Toppling Spell + Good Hope.
Force damage: 5d4 + 5 ⇒ (1, 1, 1, 2, 1) + 5 = 11
Trip maneuver check + Good Hope: 1d20 + 11 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 11 + 4 + 2 = 27
Out in the hallway, Waffles casts open/close on the door to the Maray's room. M40

GM_DBH |

Colwyn finishes of the second guard quickly. It is silent in the halls at the moment.
Marten misses all of his attacks, the Baron sneers mockingly at him. "Weakling! Your mouth has led to your end."
He winces as Vibenia puts another bolt into him.
Niadroub puts a Magic missile into him, he does not topple.
Baron Drelev begins bellowing at the top of his lungs for his guards as he hacks at Marten.
longsword: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (11) + 17 = 28
longsword: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
damage: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Colwyn hears a surprised complaint from behind the Baronesses door when the Baron starts shouting.
What are you doing now?

Zelera |

Round 2:
Zelera caught her dagger when it came back to her hand as she saw the last guard fall and heard the baron bellow. There would be guards coming and she knew that Colwyn were in a good spot to hold them off, "Hold the stairs, I'll help try to take down the barren. Yell if you need me"
Quickly moving Zelera went out and around to the doorway to Maray's room . She did not go in yet but she did prepare to cast a spell that she could then use to try and take the baron down.
If Waffles closed the door then Zelera will think at him to open it as she casts her spell.
Round 3
Zelera waited for her the door to be opened for her and cast a spell to coat her hand in a foul black energy. With her pathway clear she lunged into the room and ran up to the baron as she reached out to touch him.
Slay living (Fort dc 20): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 1212d6 + 9 ⇒ (4, 6, 2, 1, 2, 3, 3, 5, 6, 5, 5, 3) + 9 = 54
If he makes the save he only takes 21 pts of damage.

Zelera |

I did, 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12; so I likely missed but now he has a major threat to worry about if he knows what the spell is.

Marten Lebeda |

1. Falling Leaf attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35
2. Falling Leaf attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (2) + 16 = 18
3. Falling Leaf attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21
1. Falling Leaf confirm crit: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (3) + 16 = 19
Marten takes the hit and returns in kind, quiet and moving as though he's concentrating on something else.
1. Falling Leaf damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Yala shows no such restraint as she tears into the Baron's guard with her dragon claws.
1. Dragon claw attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
2. Dragon claw attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
3. Dragon bite attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
1. Dragon claw damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
2. Dragon claw damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
3. Dragon bite damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Marten Lebeda |

Didn't know they were both already down.

Vibenia Scaeva |

Vibenia unleashes a volley of shots into the fray, trying to take the Baron out.
+1 Veering Heavy Crossbow/PBS/Favored enemy (Human)/Rapid shot: 1d20 + 17 + 1 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 17 + 1 + 5 - 2 = 28

Piercing/Magic/Favored enemy (human): 1d10 + 1 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 1 + 5 = 13
Also with haste each attack from before gets +1 to hit

Colwyn the Toad |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

"Well, I've done all I can do out here," Colwyn mutters as he strides around the hallway corner and moves towards the door where his friends are fighting the false baron.
As he walks, he draws his dagger and lets a prayer to Erastil softly echo within his Stag Helm. When he finally stands in the open doorway, he hurls the dagger towards the baron.
Using one of my three daily Stag Helm uses to catch him flat-footed.
Thrown mwk dagger: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27
Damage w/ Sneak Attack: 1d4 + 2 + 5d6 ⇒ (4) + 2 + (5, 6, 3, 2, 2) = 24
Assuming I hit, I will then use an immediate action to mark him as my new Studied Target.

GM_DBH |

The Baron is engaged in heavy combat, staggering as Marten clips him with a light slash, then Vibenia puts three bolts deep into him.
He sways, looking desperate and then Colwyn strolls into the room and casually ends him with a thrown dagger!
He was on 1hp when Colwyn shanked him. :)
Silence falls aside from the discontented noises coming from the Baronesses room. The Barons shouts seem to have disturbed her.
Loot:
Longsword +2 (Defending),
MW throwing axes (3),
Breastplate +3,
Belt of physical might +4 (Con & Str)
Cloak of resistance +2,
Ring of protection +2,
Rod of splendor,
key ring (contains keys to all locks in the keep).
His guards are dead, the Baron's dead. What are you doing now?

Zelera |

Zelera saw the baron fall and then looked at the spell still on her hand. With a shrug she shook her hand and dismissed the spell before saying, "Well, that's done."
Making her way back to the room where Maray had been staying out of the fight in Zelera said, "Well, the fight is over and the Baron is dead. Any suggestion on what to do about the Baroness?"

Marten Lebeda |

"There is a long-standing tradition of ransoming noble captives back to their relatives," suggests Marten. "Assuming that they are all willing to play fairly."

Colwyn the Toad |

"Wow. Didn't think it would be that easy," Colwyn muses, his brow furrowed, as he remains stuck in place after watching the false baron drop from a single dagger. Finally, he strolls over and removes his weapon from the man's back, cleaning the blade with the dead man's own waistcoat.
"I think we can talk the guards into surrendering, especially if we show them their lord is indeed dead," Colwyn suggests, nudging Drelev's corpse with his boot.
"If stability is an issue, we could try installing that fellow we freed as the lord of the keep. It would be nice to have someone in our debt watching our western flank."

GM_DBH |

Maray warns you that installing Lord Numesti as the new ruler would go well with the soldiers and commoners, the Baroness and her brother the wizard will violently object.
She believes that you either need to off the pair, or offer enough wealth that they leave happily.
What now?

Vibenia Scaeva |

"It would definitely make a beneficial vassal state." Vibenia replies, chuckling at Colwyn's comment about how easy Drelev was to take down while counting the bolts in his corpse. "Often, new leadership is most successful when all remaining remnants of the old guard are removed."

Colwyn the Toad |

Colwyn will negotiate with the former baroness and her brother, starting by seeing how much their opening demand is for "hit the road" money.

Vibenia Scaeva |

Just remind him how hard wizarding is without a tongue/hands.
Yes I know silent/still spell are things, but leveling up to gain feats'll be pretty hard for a wizard that can't cast spells
