Correction: the grapple attempt was an Athletics skill check, it just counts as an attack.

I highly recommend listening to the podcast if you have any curiosity. There's a lot of information on new things in the rules. I'm listening to the second one now.

Alright, folks! I'm back from my trip! Level-up on its way!

Gavriil Dreams:

Gavriil sits in one of the towers under the watchful gaze of Desna's comet all those many months ago. Looking up at the comet streaking across the sky, Gavriil gently strums his lute and sings a song of respect towards the goddess, even though he doesn't quite agree with their meddling with the mortals.

His fingers glide across the strings and he sings to the meteor shower, the flashing lights casting long, hard shadows across his features. Tendrils of shadow spring from his fingers like wisps of smoke as his fingers splay across the strings, shifting and moving across the room behind him.

At last his fingers halt with the end of the song, but the music continues. A gentle woman's voice that he had not heard before rises and picks up the tune where he had left off. He looks into the room for the source of the voice and finds a woman made of shadow and stars.

Against his own volition, Gavriil moves to the woman and begins dancing with her, his feet knowing every step to the dance already without him knowing it. They move together, light and shadow under the fiery sky and..

Gavriil awakes with a start just as the sky is starting to lighten with dawn, but before the sun actually breaches the horizon. He looks up to the sky at the stars above and wonders if his dream was just the result of too many night-caps the night before and spending too much time with Edric or, possibly, a message sent to him from the Lady of the stars...

Shadowdancer? Nice!

Talia's level:

+1 BAB
+1 saves
suggestion bardic performance
versatile performance (dance)
skills 10 (TBD on answer to question below)
spells known: 2 2nd (blindness/deafness and one TBD)

OGGM - a common houserule (even aspoused by the man in charge) is that bards can retrain skill points spent on skills affected by versatile performance when they attain the ability. Can I do this with Talia?

Questions for the party: Nara has haste. Do you think it worth it for me to double up with that spell?

I'm taking 1 rank in linguistics a level based on intelligent creatures that we've encountered (or know is out there, in the case of the fey killer).

Talia's current languages: Common, Elven, Skald, Sylvan, Draconic, Undercommon, Aklo

I don't think there's anything we've encountered that doesn't speak any of these languages. Thoughts on what she should pick up next?

Easy there! He still doesn’t like the gods, even her.

Haste will always be useful. If you have it too it opens Nara up to getting other spells out there. But I may be in the minority in thinking that.

As for languages, possibly Issian? It is a language offered in a trait so it might be useful at some point in the campaign, even if it hasn’t been so far.

And yes, shadow dancer. I’ve always wanted to play one and I feel swashbuckler gives a great springboard into the PrC. Plus it may help us shore up the lack of a rouge in the party. The only thing it doesn’t give me is trapfinding and disable device, so we’re still a little out of luck in that department.

I went Slayer into Shadowdancer in another game - +30 stealth makes for lots of fun!

And Edric is party trap-disabler isn't he? I thought we established that him deliberately setting of the traps was what counted? :)

Extra haste is no bad thing - as Gav says it frees Nara to have lots of other stuff and wizards have so much versitility, besides if we end up in two fights in a day (as I suspect we will in this keep) we'll probably enjoy the extra sources of haste.

As for the kingdom building aspect, I went ahead and colored in our kingdom on the map. I was having a heck of a time going through Vosil’s notes trying to figure out what we have and what we might need next. If it’s ok with everyone I can rewrite the descriptions of each zone to tell what changes we have made to them for future reference.

Edric, if you want to try and make sense of the rules you are welcome to it.

Hello!

Edric the Godly (I know him as Ashlion of Vudra, kickass dragon man) contacted me about a spot open in this game?

I've never played Kingmaker and don't know much about it except there is a big 'make your own kingdom' aspect. I'd be happy to join though, I have a big new opening for games lately (Had a few players leave me). Edric can tell you I am a reliable poster (he better or Ashlion is going to get attacked by even more lightning scarred treants!).

What are the character creation guidelines and what is the basic story so far?

Mowque is a lovely guy and a very reliable poster who would never do something unkind to a character in one of his games! *wipes away sweat and eyes trees cautiously*

Consulting the original thread I would expect the rules to be as follows:
25pt buy
Level 6
1/2 HD + Con for HP after 1st
2 traits (1 campaign?)
Core races
Non-evil.

I'm sure our excellent OGGM will confirm if I guessed right.

Talia can fill you in on the story - she's the boss, and the bard!

Male Human Swashbuckler 5/ Shadowdancer 1[Hp: 41/46; AC: 23 Tch: 18 Flt: 17; Fort: +1 Ref: +9 Will: +2; Panche 4/5]

Hello, Mowque!

I can let the bard cover most of the story in detail if you want (though I'm sure she'll leave out the good stuff like me bravely rushing back with help to save her from the clutches of bandits) But the gist of the story is that we were all hired by the leaders of Restov (whom do not like the current leadership in Brevory) to map out an area of unclaimed land south of Brevory called the Stolen Lands. We spent the entire book mapping out the area and making it safe for people to live here.

Once we had the area mapped out we were given a stipend to start building a new settlement down in the Stolen Lands. We built our settlement upon the ruins of a bandit fortress that we cleared and established the Viscounty of Fairhaven, with our capitol being named Concord.

For most of this book we have been expanding our fledgling kingdom while also continuing our explorations to the south of the area we had previously explored.

The major players so far are:

Viscountess Talia: Fiery, red-headed leader of Fairhaven. A former play-write and bastard who has risen to the top of the social ladder in the new kingdom.

Magister Naralesh: The great one-eyed wizard is our magister and recent husband to our Viscountess... which I guess makes him the Viscount now? I'm unclear on how that exactly works...

General Edric "Godly": The fearsome General and all around good-guy. Has some serious issues from his past that sometimes come back to bite him, but it usually doesn't stop him from hitting anything we're facing like a truck. A breath of fresh air compared to the stick in the muds that are usual paladins.

Grand Diplomat Gavriil Niktosky: Me. Scoundrel of the Greenbelt, Bringer of Ale, Lover of women, Demon of the Dancefloor, Virtuoso of the Lute, and all around great guy. I don't like to toot my own horn, but most of these people wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for me, and a few that were with us aren't anymore probably because of me... Your new best friend.

And Edric is right on the character creation rules. We have pretty much everything covered except range dps if Vosil is no longer with us so you could create pretty much any character you want!

Our current trapfinding policy is 'notice the traps, then send the paladin to trigger it' so if you came with trapfinding Edric would be grateful!

A few questions...

1. Have any reilgions come up in the game at all?

2. What are our big goals besides making a stable Vicounty? Have we met any other over-riding villains or foes?

3. What, if any, our are relations to other River Kingdom?

4. Lastly, how combat heavy is the AP so far?

Welcome Mowque!

The guys are spot on with the character creation rules. This game has been epic from the start - before I took it over, and I blame it all on the great players in it. We've lost a few along the way:

Godwin in the initial attack by the bandits (where Naralesh lost an eye and was found nearly dead in the drops.)

Maeve and Keiji were the rescue team with Asha.

Asha became the spiritual adviser to the group.

Kaalib left with his people to find a better way of life.

Magna joined the crusade in the Worldwound, unable to come to terms with life in the Stolen Lands.

Dregan went back to his wife on the farm.

At the top of the page is a 'Maps and Things' tab where you find links for a calendar, the kingdom map and spreadsheet, the charters from Restov, exploration guidelines, current quests, and the battle map when needed.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

GM- I posted a few questions above, Thanks!

I have a few ideas already cooking.

I'll answer, and encourage the others to chime in as well.

1. Erastil, Desna are the main religions mentioned so far. Mostly because Asha is an NPC cleric of Erastil, and Edric follows Desna.
2. The first part I will leve to the others. Not yet...but there is some mention of a 'lady' that has scared the bejabbers out of the local fey.
3. None as of yet.
4. I'd like to think there is a good mix of RP and combat, but I'm a bit biased ;)

Sadly, the bard's player is traveling for work these next couple of days, so an in-depth accounting of our action's is beyond my ability at the moment. But, a couple of things:

First of all, welcome Mowque!

Second, isn't the hp 1/2 hd +2 + con? If not, I need to refigure Talia's hp.

I'm not sure what your plans are, or if you'd want to play someone that has the survival skill, but I think that is the biggest thing we're lacking. We've got an NPC making most of those rolls! As Gav mentions, we're also low on ranged DPR.

Of course, play what you want to play, first and foremost.

To your questions:

1. Religion: Yep, Erastil and Desna are the main ones. Our scout (an NPC) is also an Erastilian. Seems like a lot of the commoners are as well. Talia, the Viscountess, follows Abadar, though she's not a very attentive worshipper.

2. Talia would like to create a kingdom of great culture, with a cultural capital that far exceeds its small size. She intends to personally bankroll a theater and artists' residency at some point, though she's not been able to acquire the coin to do so, yet...

Our main BBEG that we've met has been a bandit lord, but he's been deceased awhile. Lately, we've been mostly exploring. We met a tribe of lizardfolk that didn't go very diplomatically, and we need to revisit them after a little while once they've had the chance to settle into a new regime (the old regime was changed). We also met a particularly obnoxious spy from... somewhere, who lost his head after foementing unrest among our peoples. Not sure if he's related to the Lady or not. Talia suspects he was a puppet of the Surtova family in Brevoy, but she does have an 8 wisdom, so...

4. Yep, we've got a pretty good mix of combat and RP.

EDIT: Oh, and I'll largely be unable to post these next couple of days. Please bot as needed.

1. Covered already.

2. Stable Viscoutcy IS the goal at the moment. On the other hand its been relatively peaceful for a while now so something bad HAS to happen soon!

3. We've only focused on our own small plot. We know we were one of four groups sent out with the same kind of purpose, but we've not heard from them, or from Restov for some time.

4. Combat so far has been limited to places on the map - so when we get there, a fair bit. If we're not there - none and therefore lots of RP. We've had a couple of RP scenes that have taken us IRL weeks to clean up, so there's plenty to get teeth stuck into. I think we've only had 1-2 'dungeons' and even they weren't too big...

Yeah, what are the HP rules again? I can barely remember these things between various games.

Ok, have a concept I want to run past the GM and group, along with some questions.

I am pondering a teifling alchemist Trap Breaker. He would be a worshiper of Svarozic, a empyrel lord. He would be here in order to get in on the ground floor of a new kingdom for his faith. While he supports nation-building on a basic level, he will also be pushing for converts.

So my questions..

1. Does the idea work, at all, theme wise?

2. Are you ok with a PC who make try to convert various NPCs (or heck, PCs)? I don't plan to de-rail on it, but it would be a part of the character.

3. Any problem with alchemists? I think this archetype will help with traps. I literally blow them up!

4. Tielfing ok? If so, do you want me to roll on the Alternative Feature table (not the Ability one, that is OP as sin) or can I pick?

5. Svarozic literally had one line about him. Do you mind, GM, if I do a bit of fleshing out for him? Mostly for flavor and to give my character context.

1. I don't see why not

2. Edric might have some issues with that since Svaozic doesn't gel that well with Desna. Edric's a live and let live type though so I don't think it will cause conflict just honest disagreement :)

3. I dont play them, but having thm in the party is no issue.

4. We were limited to core races, personally I like that vibe for this game but if others are ok with tieflings then I am too.

Just my $0.02 :)

HP 48/48 | AC 16 (Touch 11, FF 14) CMD 13 | Fort +4 Ref +6 Will +5 | Init +5 Percep +4 SM +2 | Shift (15 ft, 8/8)

I would also prefer a core race, since that's what everyone else has been expected to choose from and I think extremely uncommon races for PCs (especially tieflings) don't fit as well into the lower-fantasy themes of this particular campaign. I don't think a tiefling would be appropriate.

Everything else sounds great. Our fledgling nation seems like a perfect fit for a Svarozic worshipper, and a Trap Breaker Alchemist would fill a nice niche in the party.

Male Human Swashbuckler 5/ Shadowdancer 1[Hp: 41/46; AC: 23 Tch: 18 Flt: 17; Fort: +1 Ref: +9 Will: +2; Panche 4/5]

I don’t have a problem with any of those ideas, including the teifling. I just wonder if the trap-breaker is almost too niche. I don’t want you to feel like you need to fill that hole and then end up being a one-trick pony and not liking it. Then again, I’ve never played an alchemist so I might be missing something.

Also, OGGM, would you allow use of the downtime system with building specific buildings and organizations? I have this idea of Gavriil wanting to build his own dueling academy based on his style of fighting since he didn’t mesh well with the swordlords in his background. I’ll use my own funds to build and maintain it. It’s just his way of biting his thumb at the aldori braggarts in the north.

First, Gav and Nara check the Discussions Tab for the Dead Suns game.

Next, I'd prefer core races, Kaalib was an exception only because I had promised the player before I'd posted the original requirements.

Gav, the downtime system from UC? I'm fine with that. I'd have to re-read it, but don't let that stop you from getting it going. I think Talia should do the same for her theater. Having said that, we have to figure out how there should be some BP payment for it. I'll come up with something.

I prefer to play core races myself, I just thought I'd throw it out there.

Gavril- Alchemists can do alot. I mean I have bombs of various types, mutagens, I'll have a decent set of skills. I think I'll have a good spread of uses, both in and out of combat. I also get to make land mines.

Ok then, GM, I'll get to work. One religious 6th level human alchemist coming up.

No worries Mowque, just wanted to see if you were ready to go! :)

Male M,

Ok, Sentir is ready!

Stats are on his page.

Two questions!

1. I have alot of crafting abilities and stuff. Do you mind if I craft some stuff at half price to start? I'm ok if you say no, but I figure at level 6 he has had some time.

2. How much written backstory do you want? he is the formerly spoiled child of a Brevoy family but has come here to A. Avoid charges for various alchemical accidents, b. Spread his faith.

So other then equipment (waiting on crafting ruling) I am ready to post!

You can craft - you spent the feats, it would be a crime to not let you use them. It also gives another reason to be here: to get an opportunity for yourself in a new market.

The background can follow - you can even develop as we go. I'd rather have you in sooner than later.

I'd start with presenting yourself to the Council as a newcomer to Fairhaven that wants to have their blessing for your business. I'd suspect a crafter would catch their attention! It's a good time, they are all out in the city for the festivals.

Male M,
