All good thoughts.
I agree with OGGM in going first for a simple, short scenario. This will allow us to playtest both the rules and the characters we've developed. Then maybe try out something longer after that, like Tempest Fury?
Agree with Talia though that anyone who creates a character they really like should have the option of keeping hold of them. Maybe if we're doing a longer scenario that involves some levelling-up, people can decide at each new level whether they want to stick with what they've come up with or introduce a new character.
We haven't really done anything with this. Dead on the vine? Or just a pause?

I'm still on for DMing the Dead Suns AP if anyone wants to give that a go. Probably looking at a Dec/Jan start, though.

Gavriil |

I'd like to do one as well. I'd even be willing to run one, but things are a little hectic right now. Work has been doubling my shifts while I'm still with them and my girlfriend and I are in the process of moving to a new apartment (hence why I haven't posted in a few days), so I don't have the time to put towards running a game right now. Maybe towards the end of October I can run one for us.
Also, I'll take a look at your campaign, Edric! I might be able to get an application up soon.

Talia Khavortorov |

I can also do a gm rotation or play. I have to get through the next few weeks before I can pick up anything else to GM.
Vosil, were you wanting to gm the whole AP or trade off? I'd be happy to take book 2 if you're looking to trade off, or I can take book 1 once I'm through my work craziness/baby birth, mid November or so.

Vosil Comarenza |

Happy to do book 1 of the AP (and best wishes btw for everything!). Given the typical time PbP takes, let's leave book 2 until we get there, shall we? I'm happy to run it in principle, but I don't want to make promises I can't live up to.
On the other hand, I won't be able to start until December/January (probably open up a thread some point in November to start discussing character creation etc). If people just want to get on with it, I'm happy to step back and you can start book 1 sooner, with the option of my stepping in to take over book 2 once we get there.

Talia Khavortorov |

Oh my gosh. I'm glad you're in recovery and no major damage was done. Take it easy, OGGM, and don't rush yourself back.

Vosil Comarenza |

Oof. Glad you're still with us and no major damage!
All good wishes for your recovery and we will 'see' you when you are good and ready. Don't rush it - we'll be here!

Vosil Comarenza |

I'm very, very relieved to see you are still with us, OGGM :-)
...and not just because it means that the game continues

Gavriil |

Hey guys! So I got into the new apartment and after fighting with the company over the last week finally got the internet set up. And...
Holy crap!
OGGM, I'm glad you're ok! I hope everything keeps going smoothly for you.
And Talia, congratulations! Good luck with your kid!
Just give me a few to get caught up in the game thread and I'll post.

I have a slew of medication I have to take for the next 12 months, but it's better than the alternative.
Your mastery of understatement is almost British :-)

It's possible that my fondness for English comedy (Python, Blackadder, Red Dwarf, The Young Ones, Ab Fab, etc) has had some influence there. Throw in some Kids in the Hall (Canadian, I know) and there you have it.

Vosil Comarenza |

gosh, The Young Ones. That is going back a ways.
"Ah, the old 'eat the television' trick, eh?" Good times.

Vosil Comarenza |

They are waiting...for you...to start swimming...
Hahahahahahaha no. A combination of bowstrings, metal armour and general squishiness means swimming is a bad idea.
Sometimes, obvious trap is obvious.

Talia Khavortorov |

Talia possibly can't make the swim by taking 10, and she's not going to have their first meeting ending up in a near drowning. Shall we return with a boat?

Vosil Comarenza |

Do we want to try saying that we can't get to them by swimming and seeing if they'll come to us? It's no more than the truth, after all.

Talia Khavortorov |

Talia asked (in Draconic) for a boat to be sent, explaining that we don't do well in cold, deep water. They didn't respond one way or the other.

Vosil Comarenza |

Oops, so you did. Missed that.
Mind you, with the Paizo forums alternating between shutting down completely and opening for business but refusing to let me stay logged in, it's hardly surprising that I'm missing a few details.

Talia Khavortorov |

Well, unless the others have other ideas, I guess we need to move on and come back when we have a boat?

Gavriil |

Yeah... not a strong swimmer. I'm gonna go with moving on. I say we head back to Concord and grab a boat and wagon to haul it. We're going to need the wagon anyway to haul back some of those bigger beasties on the wanted posters.

Vosil Comarenza |

Back to Concord it is!

Vosil Comarenza |

I'd forgotten about the island! My vote for doing that first, as it's on the way to the lizards and if we don't do it now we will end up forgetting about it entirely.

Gavriil |

Paizo needs a better web crew -_- And really either one is fine with me! I just figured we said we would meet with them then placed out in a hurry. They might not be very welcoming when we come back, even more so if we take our time...
(Not to incept ideas into the DM's mind)

Vosil Comarenza |

OK, lizards first and then back to the island.
Nothing to add at this point.

Vosil Comarenza |

Talia: maybe ask for release of any human captives as a goodwill gesture before we can offer tribute? It will let us know how... 'neutral' that alignment is

Talia Khavortorov |

Good idea, Vosil. We'll do that.
And please, everyone else, jump in here if you have an idea. Especially our diplomat!

Gavriil |

Not much I can do past that. If I could speak draconian I would have already pressed the issue about the kid, but I didn't want to put words in your mouth especially since what he would say would probably not be very diplomatic.

Vosil Comarenza |

Unfortunately I'm travelling with work for the next few days so posting will be intermittent.

Naralesh |

Sorry that I've temporarily vanished from the boards - I just had a rather large change in living situation and have been handling things here (and Naralesh hasn't had much to say anyway). I'm going out of town for the week of Thanksgiving too, so it will be another week or so until I am able to regularly post again.

Update: my desktop computer died messily recently. Doesn't affect my posting, as I can do that from my phone, but it does affect everything else as I can't run a game from my mobile, or read any of the pdfs (I don't have hard copies of the AP books).
Hoping to rebuild the thing this weekend. If successful, I will open up a Dead Suns game in the next week or so with a view to starting in mid December. If not...
EDIT: and I agree with Talia. Meteor swarm the place from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

And Edric will have to stand in the middle of the village with his light turned on so you can hit the target... I know how this goes :P

Good luck with the computer rebuild! If we go forward, I'm really eyeing that operative class, or the soldier class, or the mechanic class, or the mystic class...
So yeah, lots of cool things about the game are grabbing my attention.

Yup, that's one of the perks of being the pally!

Vosil Comarenza |

More seriously, this diplomancy thing has to be a 2-way street: if we're offering them meat, we need something in return. That child we heard crying would be a good start, as would a promise not to eat any other sentients. If they can't commit to that, we may have to eradicate them.
We can't have neighbours who regard our citizens as food. I don't see any way that works.

Talia Khavortorov |

What do you all think?
The boy and the safety of our people for how much meat?
Is that encouraging bad behavior and future kidnappings? What else could we ask for? Trained caimans for an ongoing meat shipment each winter? Something else?

Vosil Comarenza |

Hm - I would say boy plus non-aggression pact in return for regular meat shipments; with the understanding that if they break the agreement, not only does the food supply stop but we return and burn their village to the ground. I don't see how that encourages bad behaviour in future. Quite the reverse, assuming they take it seriously.
And if they don't take it seriously, well... I believe 'nuke the site from orbit' was mentioned?

Talia Khavortorov |

Okee Dokie, cards on the table.
If they accept, OGGM, I figure the crown would pay the hunters for their meat. How much BP would this cost?
