Astraden Limhaare
Alright. Hopefully that one tiefling won't come back from this.
Astraden, seeing Carina wounded and hearing battle up around the bend, concentrates and releases a wave of healing energy.
Channel positive energy (healing): 2d6 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3
Dungeon Kobold
Good question!
Round 1: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Robin and Astraden, make Perception checks.
Astraden Limhaare
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Also that one tiefling to the far west dropped its bow downstairs, I think.
Dungeon Kobold
Robin Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
"I think that guard's awake!"
Robin steps past Astraden and looses an arrow at the newly healed guardsman.
Attack (PBS, Bless): 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 10
He frowns as the arrow goes over the tiefling's head.
Astraden Limhaare
Astraden steps aside as Robin moves past. "Dammit!"
She moves up, dropping her loaded crossbow on the stairs by Carina and drawing her rapier. "Please don't let this go more wrong," she prays quietly, head still ringing.
Round 3 wrap-up: Channel positive energy (healing) (standard action), drop crossbow (free action), movement (move action), draw rapier during movement (free action). Bless lasts 28 rounds.
Cuetzpalli
"Spiny, go!" Cuetzpalli says, pointing at the troglodyte zombie. The dinosaur rushes past Tanith and Farrukh to bite the undead.
Bite (bless): 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 1 = 13
Damage (bludg/pierce/slashing): 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Then the Olman warrior follows his faithful companion, and tries to tumble past the zombie.
Acrobatics (action point): 1d20 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 6 + (4) = 18 Ouch...fail I'm pretty sure.
So I lose the move action, take an AOO and get shunted to the spot with the dead priestess (I think).
Dungeon Kobold
One problem with that: Spiny can't reach and attack, as that's a 35-foot move.
Cuetzpalli
Blergghh....why do they only have 30' move? Every other quadruped has 40...Well then my actions will be totally and completely effectless, again. Awesome.
Rynjin
Blergghh....why do they only have 30' move? Every other quadruped has 40...
The simple answer is "Because Spinosaurus aren't quadrupeds".
Cuetzpalli
No. I still need to get into the fight. I guess my brain is dumb and can't get it out of my head that they aren't quadrupeds. I always imagine a dimetrodon for some reason.
Dungeon Kobold
NPCs' Turn.
The tiefling by Astraden glares. His eyes glow red, then turn pitch black, as he touches a potion at his belt. Darkness begins to creep like tendrils from his eyes, down his arm, to swirl around the vial...
Astraden AoO (vs. prone): 1d20 + 4 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 4 + 1 - 1 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
But Astraden is too quick. She stabs him in the chest, and the shadows dissipate.
Meanwhile, the high priest grimaces at the deaths of the two clerics. "Open the door, men, and circle around to attack from their rear. Skeletons, follow those men and kill anyone not wearing the image of a black, spiked gauntlet. Zombies, move along the balcony to kill anybody not wearing the image of a black, spiked gauntlet."
The servants below rush to obey. One fumbles with his key and unlocks the great double doors, and the rest file through. The skeletons awkwardly follow. Carina, Astraden and Robin hear quite a few attackers running up from behind. The humans have their longspears out.
The tiefling who fled gets out a potion and drinks it as she walks out of sight.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
The high priest rubs his stubble, then grasps his holy symbol. "Hextor! Show these bumbling cretins your great worth. Finish the weakling off."
An ethereal spiky flail appears by Tanith and swings mercilessly down upon him.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Crit?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Crit!: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (6, 3) + 2 = 11
The flail sinks into Tanith's injured shoulder, reopening the wounds Astraden tried to close, covering the armor with blood, and bringing the brawler down.
"Hm. Is that all?" The priest sighs. "I suppose it was too much to hope for a true champion. I do so miss the war."
EDIT: Forgot the zombies.
The lizardman zombie swings its greatclub mindlessly—and ineffectually—at Spiny.
Greatclub: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
The arrow hit Tanith under the arm and sunk deep. It was a wound that would have killed a lesser man, but the big Suel had the mighty Brawler's strength coursing through him. Unfortunately he was unable to recover in time to defend himself from the priest's cowardly spell and like a great oak, came crashing to the ground.
Going to hold off for now. Hoping Carina might be able to get Tanith up so he can patch himself up.
Dungeon Kobold
Incidentally, the flail hasn't gone away. A DC 17 Spellcraft check identifies it as a Spiritual Weapon.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
It doesn't change targets once its target's gone down?
Dungeon Kobold
Nope. I was just noticing that a few minutes ago—it's an ugly spell if it manages to get its target unconscious. No coup de grace, at least. ;)
Astraden Limhaare
Robin, Cuetzpalli, and Spiny might still need to roll Will saves. I'm heading to bed now, but as soon as Carina vacates that spot I'm going to move there and pick up my crossbow (taking the AOOs so Robin won't have to deal with them). Though, if she or Robin want to grab it and fire that one bolt they're certainly welcome to.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
Well if I understand Kobold's ruling, Tanith's going to die next round if someone doesn't get him up.
Astraden Limhaare
Astraden hears Tanith's scream and touches her mask, biting her lip as things definitely do get worse.
Channel positive energy (healing): 2d6 ⇒ (1, 5) = 6 This will get everyone who's taken damage except for the far west tiefling, I think. Holding onto the rest of my actions until Carina moves, but I'm still planning to take the AOOs for Robin if he wants to head upstairs.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
Tanith wakes with a groan as Astraden's healing pulse gives him just enough juice. The big man struggles to his feet and pray to the Brawler for the strength to finish this fight.
CLW: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Dungeon Kobold
Small problem with this: Tanith has Total Cover from Astraden right now. That channel is not going to affect him. Feel free to modify your action.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
Astraden could move. Channeling doesn't provoke.
Dungeon Kobold
That is one of the options available to her, yeah. Of course, the movement itself will provoke. Longspears.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
Moving to the base of the stairs would be enough.
Farrukh or Carina dragging Tanith back would work too.
Dungeon Kobold
Moving to the base of the stairs provokes, and Tanith should still have total cover unless I'm failing basic geometry here.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
Tanith should be a square back. I'd meant to move back earlier but there was folks in the way at the time.
Dungeon Kobold
When did he take the five-foot step if there were people in the way? I can't read the Revision History.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
There was a Carina behind him before. She moved after he acted but the fluid nature of block initiative made the whole thing a bit complicated and I was still out at dinner when she posted.
Dungeon Kobold
Alright, feel free to move him where you want him. Make sure to make a note of this stuff—five feet can make a big difference.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
Sorry, I didn't expect the initiative to actually turn over until tomorrow. It's Mother's day people!
I moved Tanith and took his x-eyes with him. Astraden can catch him with a channel if she moves to the foot of the stairs.
Dungeon Kobold
Carina can catch him with a channel if she moves to the foot of the stairs.
It really is a good thing you guys have a good cleric like Carina in the party. Can you imagine if you had something terrible, like a priest of Olidammara? God, that'd be embarrassing.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
Hey, I'm delirious with blood loss. Cut a guy some slack.
Gark the Goblin
|
I've got to head to bed. If Carina moves out of that square, I'll move there and channel (I'd like to not leave that crossbow/not be stuck in easy bullrushing territory/be able to get an elevation bonus). Otherwise I'll just channel at the bottom of the stairs.
Oh and KC you can roll the AOO now; I'll check it tomorrow.
Cuetzpalli
Hooooo boy.
"Spiny, kill everyone!" Cuetzpalli says, pointing to the lizard zombie, then the high priest and his tiefling guards. He retreats down the steps to try to save the others.
Spiny bite (bless): 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 1 = 14
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Cuetzpalli double moves again. -sigh-
Cuetzpalli
Also, if needed...Will save: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (13) + 0 = 13
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
Can't Spiny full attack? The zombie was right next to him.
Dungeon Kobold
Keep in mind that unless Carina moves, you're in the only spot Astraden can move to Channel on Tanith.
Gark IRL: "Seriously, these are commoners...I can take a hit from a commoner. [Cuetzpalli] needs to throw his javelins. Like, I know he'll take ranged penalties, but we need to take those archers down stat."
Also, why isn't Spiny full attacking? And is that Will save for Spiny or Cuetzpalli?
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
The archers are definitely the biggest threat right now.
He probably just missed the fact that Spiny was already in melee.
Dungeon Kobold
The arrow clears the corner, punches through one of the spectral six arms protecting the tiefling, and punctures the man's arm. He cries out a curse in Infernal.
Cuetzpalli
Claw: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 6 + 1 = 20
Claw 2: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 1 = 13
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 51d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Save was for Cuet. Are the tielfing guards the archers? I guess if it works better for the party I can stay where I was and throw a spear instead.
Spiny will save if needed: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Spear throw if Cuet would be better off where he started: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 1 - 4 = 13
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
I'm about to watch an episode of Game of Thrones and nod off. Just in case you guys get started tomorrow before I get up: It looks like one way or another, Astraden's channel is going to go off so Tanith's earlier post will take place as described but in addition he'll 5-foot step into the corner to get some cover from the archers and spend a Fervor for additional healing.
Fervor: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Dungeon Kobold
Yes, they're the archers. It's actually only a -2 to your attack—they lack cover, so the only problem is -2 from range increments. Of course, you also failed the Will save, so it comes down to -3 anyways.
Cuetzpalli's spear is knocked away by one of the six arms.
Meanwhile, Spiny has his orders and is eager to carry them out. He rips apart a chunk of the zombie's hastily-stitched flesh, though its tough hide foils his gnashing teeth.
Astraden moves quickly, advancing and raising her holy symbol.
AoO: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Unfortunately, this is one of those days for Astraden. The advancing peasant skewers her shoulder as she walks by, though he's not able to stop her from summoning the might of her god.
Everyone is healed six damage, and this happens now:
Tanith wakes with a groan as Astraden's healing pulse gives him just enough juice. The big man struggles to his feet and pray to the Brawler for the strength to finish this fight.
CLW: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Burning Divine Favor
Note: It was Astraden's intention to eat the AoO for Robin, which is why Robin didn't get stabbed earlier.
Dungeon Kobold
Farrukh and Carina are up.
Enjoy your Game of Thrones, Tanith! I've got a little spoiler for you: Jon Arryn was dead to begin with.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
I'm a book reader but I'm just now getting around to watching the HBO series and I've been binge-watching.
Dungeon Kobold
Okay, I've totally gotta go to bed. See you all tomorrow.
Farrukh Al'Khatel
Farrukh dances in place because he's kind of stuck with nowhere to go.
Forgot to buy that bow when I was in town last. =/ Can't move past Cuetz and the zombie because narrow balcony, was planning on moving around to get at big bad priestly dude. I'll figure it out tomorrow, it's beddy bye time for me too.
