Eben MacTeague
Eben raises an eyebrow at Astraden and shrugs.
Bluff to reply back to her:: 1d20 + 22 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 22 + 2 = 35
"And he should know how un-feeble our lies are, what with being the last living descendant of the super-honest Wind Dukes and all..."
Mostly pointless Bluff check: 1d20 + 22 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 22 + 2 = 25
I think this is one of the few times my lack of effort in making a bluff check is actually reflected in a dice roll.
Farrukh Al'Khatel
"I'm a descendant of the Wind Dukes? I mean, yeah, I'm a descendant of the Wind Dukes!"
Aid?: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Not sure if this takes an action or not. I still have a Swift available if that counts. If not, nix the Aid.
Dungeon Kobold
You take a -10 because he actually heard Astraden telling Eben to make this claim.
SM on Secret Message: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (8) + 22 = 30
SM on Pointless Bluff Check: 1 + 22 = 23
Round 2: Kolyarut
The inevitable responds by firing four perfectly opaque cubes of purple energy at Carina.
Touch Attack (Improved Cover): 1d20 + 16 - 8 ⇒ (11) + 16 - 8 = 19
If that hits, Carina takes 1d4 ⇒ 3 temporary negative levels. These levels will last for twelve hours.
Round 3: You are up!
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
I recognize the pit but what's the larger grey square over it?
Thoroughly pissed at the thing firing on Carina, Tanith grips his poleaxe tightly and prepares to charge forward.
As soon as there's no more pit.
Dungeon Kobold
Those ending their turn in the larger square must make Reflex saves or fall in each round.
Astraden Limhaare
"Cool," Astraden says, watching the flickering light around her hand wane slightly. She unlatches her shield and slings it onto her pack, then pulls out a dagger. "Tanith, can you get out the magic rope?"
Round 3: Remove shield (move action) and unsheathe mithril dagger (move action). Magic circle against evil lasts 644 rounds, magic circle against law lasts 645 rounds, prayer lasts 7 rounds, copycat lasts 5 rounds, and dispel law lasts 8 rounds.
Farrukh Al'Khatel
Not having Reach, Farrukh starts pelting the Kolyarut with his bow.
Attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (10) + 16 = 26
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Attack 2: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
It's not very effective.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
Tanith does as he's asked. "What'd you have in mind?"
Dungeon Kobold
Farrukh's first arrow very narrowly strikes the inevitable's arm, scraping away a bit of the fortitude sapped from Eben—though not as much as Farrukh would have expected it to.
Tanith, Carina, Eben and Rodrigo are up.
Eben MacTeague
Noting that very little was achieved by either his previous burst of arrows or Farrukh's current one, Eben reaches into his backpack and pulls out his wand of gravity bow, then taps it against his longbow while muttering.
UMD: 1d20 + 18 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 18 + 2 = 25
Move action: retrieve wand, standard action: activate it.
Moment of greatness lasts 50 rounds, good hope lasts 51 rounds, cat's grace lasts 52 rounds, mirror image lasts 78 rounds, gravity bow lasts 10 rounds.
AC is 24/17/18 while magic circle against law is active. Mirror image has 3 images remaining.
Dungeon Kobold
I think Tanith is waiting for Astraden's response (Gark's working on a big assignment), but Rodrigo and Carina are up.
Astraden Limhaare
"Have it loop on one of the statues out there." Astraden spares a glance to look for something sturdy they could tie the other end of the rope to in this room.
Portcullis fully into the ceiling at this point?
Dungeon Kobold
You can see some of it sticking out. It's not hidden or nothin'.
Carina Viera
Figures... I leave for a con for a few days, and my character gets level-drained. :p
Round 2: Actions
No Action: 5' step out of the kolyarut's line of sight
Standard Action: Total Defence: +4 to AC for 1 Round
Carina staggers away from the raw force of unrelenting law grinding away her soul, and adopts a purely defensive stance in cover.
"Rodrigo! Do something about that pit, dammit!"
Rynjin
I think at this point a friendly agreement to put any use of Pit spells to a vote is in order since this is like the third time this has happened (is utterly ineffective to enemies, but fouls us up considerably) I think.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
Tanith's actions were taken digging the rope up and handing it off. He doesn't really walk around with it in hand.
Rodrigo Dantares
Well, we could have just left in the room and left, but instead we're fighting it for some reason. Yay for complete waste of resources.
Rodrigo sighs, and dismisses his pit. They obviously don't need my help. Just going to watch.
Standard action, dismiss pit. Move action back up.
The archons fire at the kolyarut again.
Attacks: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 121d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 231d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 211d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 31d6 ⇒ 21d6 ⇒ 31d6 ⇒ 4
Rynjin
Well, we could have just left in the room and left, but instead we're fighting it for some reason. Yay for complete waste of resources.
Ehhh, it could have followed us quite easily. It could have just lifted the portcullis, and most Outsiders can Greater Teleport at-will anyway. We tried reasoning with it, it didn't buy it, and we're going to have to come back this way to LEAVE.
Dungeon Kobold
Crit?: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18 2 + 1d6 ⇒ 2 + (1) = 3
The archon's rays sear into the kolyarut's accumulated strength as Tanith moves up to heed Astraden's request.
Just then, the pit vanishes.
Round 3: Kolyarut
The construct-like creature seems to let out a sigh. It steps to the side, gazing upon Farrukh. I suggest you prevent your summoner friend from casting any more spells, to prevent him from hindering your party further."
Make a Will save, DC 16, versus suggestion. If you fail, you are compelled to follow the kolyarut's advice to the best of your ability. If Farrukh cruelly regards this as a reasonable suggestion, you can take a -1 to -2 penalty to the save.
Actually, it looks like you benefit from Magic Circle Against Law, so in that case you may be fine.
It then points at Tanith. Four opaque purple cubes streak towards the burly brawler.
Touch Attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21 If that hits, take 1d4 ⇒ 2 negative levels.
Round 4: You are up!
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
That hits exactly. I don't suppose he's dirge of doomed or something?
Wait, if the pit's been dismissed do we need the rope?
Farrukh Al'Khatel
Doesn't our Magic Circle make us immune to his "new attempt[s] to possess or exercise mental control"? At least until I move.
Will if not: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Action Point: 1d6 ⇒ 5
"Tempting....but no."
Farrukh drops his bow and moves in on the Kolyarut, angling around its side, drawing his sword as he moves.
Slash: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (18) + 18 = 36
Damage: 1d6 + 18 ⇒ (4) + 18 = 22
Confirm: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (18) + 18 = 36
Damage: 1d6 + 18 ⇒ (2) + 18 = 20
Dungeon Kobold
Yes, it does (see my edit).
Eben ended his dirge (since the kolyarut wasn't using attack rolls) and doesn't have Lingering Performance, so no.
Dungeon Kobold
Farrukh rushes forward and hacks brutally into the kolyarut, breaking down the last of its borrowed energy in the process.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
Did it save vs aura of menace already?
Dungeon Kobold
Actually, That's a Good Question: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 291d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 181d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23 Okay, and it killed the last one regardless.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
Blarg. Negative levels are the worst.
Feeling his strength ripped away, Tanith retreats into the other room. "Kill it quick Farrukh!"
Move back and total defense.
Eben MacTeague
Eben steps forward and lets loose a host of significantly heavier than normal arrows.
Manyshot:
longbow+good hope+prayer: 1d20 + 14 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 14 + 2 + 1 = 27
damage+good hope+Arcane Strike+prayer: 2d6 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6, 5) + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 18
damage+good hope+Arcane Strike+prayer: 2d6 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4, 1) + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 12
Iterative:
longbow+good hope+prayer: 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 9 + 2 + 1 = 23
damage+good hope+Arcane Strike+prayer: 2d6 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6, 2) + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 15
Pretty sure I miss on less than a 26, but hope springs eternal...
Moment of greatness lasts 49 rounds, good hope lasts 50 rounds, cat's grace lasts 51 rounds, mirror image lasts 77 rounds, gravity bow lasts 9 rounds.
AC is 24/17/18 while magic circle against law is active. Mirror image has 3 images remaining.
Dungeon Kobold
Two arrows thunk into the inevitable's abdomen. Though each seems sharply reduced in effectiveness, they still clearly pack some punch.
Carina, Astraden and Rodrigo are up.
Astraden Limhaare
Astraden steps into the doorway and flings her dagger kolyarut-wards, pulling her shield back over her shoulder in the same motion.
+1 mithral dagger thrown (good hope, prayer): 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 7 + 2 + 1 = 29 Slashing, magic, mithral (prayer, good hope): 1d4 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 11 Crit confirm?: 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 2 + 1 = 15 Extra damage: 1d4 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 11
Round 4: Five-foot step (no action), throw dagger (standard action), and re-don shield (move action). Magic circle against evil lasts 643 rounds, magic circle against law lasts 644 rounds, prayer lasts 6 rounds, copycat lasts 4 rounds, and dispel law lasts 7 rounds.
Dungeon Kobold
Astraden hurls the dagger. It scrapes along the kolyarut's shoulder, seeming mostly repelled by some innate resistance.
Carina and Rodrigo are up.
Dungeon Kobold
So, I was having a conversation with Gark via Skype (because two people living in the same house apparently still prefer to text each other) about Create Pit.
Turns out, as he originally thought, it's not dismissable. Create Pit lasts, for Rodrigo, 10 rounds. Sorry, Farrukh. You can save that roll for later.
Farrukh Al'Khatel
Farrukh leaps over the pit diagonally, he makes the DC on a 1 with room to spare. If I need an Acrobatics to not provoke (which I shouldn't, if I can angle it right I believe), it's below. Moved to new place on the map.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
This is better than getting into a war of attrition with someone who can Enervate an unknown number of times per day and who knows what else.
Farrukh Al'Khatel
Farrukh is not concerned with petty heroics, MERELY SURVIVAL! And getting paid. Can't forget that sweet, sweet loot.
Plus he loves showing off his sweet jumps and flips, yo.
"How was that? That jump do anything for you?" he addresses the Kolyarut.
Dungeon Kobold
"Interdimensional Humanoid Fitness Protocol calculates it at a. Six-point-two-two-three-three-four-four-bar. Out of. Ten. Assuming my dating is not out-of-data. Ha."
Carina Viera
Round 3: Actions
Standard Action: Throw Dispelling Bomb at pit
"It's an inevitable, Farrukh. I don't think it CAN self-terminate." Carina growls as she throws a clear bomb into the pit Rodrigo made.
Ranged Touch Attack (Level Drain, PBS, Good Hope): 1d20 + 10 - 3 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 10 - 3 + 1 + 2 = 16
Dispel Check (Level Drain, Good Hope): 1d20 + 8 - 3 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 8 - 3 + 2 = 24
Dungeon Kobold
Carina's bomb strikes the inevitable, but it doesn't seem to have any magical effects active.
Rodrigo is up.
Carina Viera
I threw it at the pit to try to dispel it, not at the inevitable.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
The pit got dismissed already. Also, does level drain affect caster level checks?
Rynjin
No, it didn't. Create pit isn't dismissable (that's why I had to leap over it). Yes, CL checks are affected by negative levels (in fact, your CL in general is affected by it. Were Carina to brew a new Extract now it would be cast as if she were 5th level).
Dungeon Kobold
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Oh, there I go again failing to fully read Carina's posts.
No magical effects on the inevitable are dispelled...
...because the bomb hits the pit. There is a flash from below, and the extradimensional space rapidly unravels like a woven sack until it is no more.
Dungeon Kobold
Rodrigo refrains from casting and the archons continue firing.
1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 3 - 4 = 41d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 3 - 4 = 111d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 3 - 4 = 141d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 3 - 4 = 6
1d6 ⇒ 3
The archons land one more hit, further singing the kolyarut.
Round 4: Kolyarut
The kolyarut lunges for Farrukh's throat, hand rimmed in purple light.
Concentration: 1d20 + 15 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 15 + 4 = 21 Baaaarely.
Touch Attack: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (15) + 18 = 33
Damage (if hit): 6d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 1, 3, 4, 5) = 20
Farrukh feels his life force exit his body and flow neatly into the kolyarut, artificially mending its injuries.
Round 5: You are up!
Astraden Limhaare
Hand now free and the pit neatly out of the way, Astraden charges forward with her shield in front of her. Her open palm comes up towards the kolyarut's leg at the last moment, dark specks of violet flaring up in a storm around her fist as she nears contact.
Dispel magic touch attack (good hope, prayer, moment of greatness, charge): 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 9 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 2 = 20 Vs. spell resistance (action point): 1d20 + 9 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 9 + 5 = 19 Action point: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6 [2/9] DC 18 Will save or be driven back to Mechanus, if that somehow makes it.
Round 5: Charge+discharge (full-round action). Magic circle against evil lasts 642 rounds, magic circle against law lasts 643 rounds, prayer lasts 5 rounds, copycat lasts 3 rounds, and dispel law lasts 6 rounds (if it misses).
