"I have just the god in mind," the cleric agrees, following Tanith.

The Gateway Grove, The Isle of Last Resort

Farrukh and the others move into the room. The stink is even greater here, and the bodies more numerous. Some even look rather fresh.

As the adventurers enter and move Eben's spell in further, a chorus of hisses sounds from further into the chamber. Leaning around rocks and corners, flinching as the light touches their pallid flesh, are numerous, numerous ghouls. These creatures have not been seen by Spiny's Six since the underwater battle in the Whispering Cairn, but their sharp teeth, red eyes and emaciated, starved features are unmistakable. Their smell is even stronger than one would expect for the dead. Truly, these revolting sins against nature smell less like a pack of corpses and more like a mass grave.

Knowledge (religion) 12:
Their foul stench means that these are not ghouls, but ghasts, a much more deadly type of undead. They possess most of the same basic powers as the ghoul, but are substantially tougher.

If 17:
In addition to their paralyzing bite and ability to spread disease, which you have already encountered in the past, that horrendous stench can sicken those who come too close. If you scored a 22 or higher, you also know that their paralysis can affect elves, but that doesn't seem likely to be applicable here.

Inits: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 101d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 221d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 131d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 = 101d20 + 0 ⇒ (5) + 0 = 51d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 191d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 211d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

Combat map added.

Round 1: Smelly Ghouls
The undead spill out of their hiding places and mass towards the adventurers' location. Despite their frenzy, only two are quick enough to attempt attacks—both on Farrukh.

Claws @ Farrukh (FF): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 181d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Both miss thanks to Farrukh's as-ever impeccable defense.

They're shown on the map. Eleven.

Oh, and I'm sorry. Farrukh and Tanith need to make Fortitude saves. Tanith needs to make two saves, Farrukh needs to make six.

Sorry, just realized the map's viewing permissions weren't enabled. I'm sick, I can't be held responsible for s~~% I do. Fixed now.

The Gateway Grove, The Isle of Last Resort

In the future, Rodrigo, please try to make clear what you intend to summon before combat before combat starts. My rolls have all been made with the assumption that Sombra is still among you. But you can assume the dog/s is/are here now.

The Gateway Grove, The Isle of Last Resort

You have what buffs you've stated you cast. It might not be wise to assume your usual nova buff strategy here regardless—unless you make especially good time, tonight is unlikely to be a standard dungeon crawl.

Fair enough. I'm more curious about our long term buffs that were put up earlier in the day.

The Gateway Grove, The Isle of Last Resort

If I can be honest, I haven't really kept track of all of those. It's about 8:00 pm now, so even "hour/level" buffs (such as shield other) are probably down by now.

That's fine. Shield other is extended every morning so it'd still be running at 8pm. Rodrigo can you spare another 1st level spell slot to mage armor Tanith? If not he'll just chug a potion.

The Gateway Grove, The Isle of Last Resort

Keep in mind (partially saying this because we have a history of not noticing such things) that the whole party isn't up yet. Carina goes, then a third party, then the rest of the party. Rodrigo can cast the spell then. Or Tanith can drink the potion then, of course.

Alternatively, can we just say Rodrigo used Tanith's extend rod for the one earlier in the day?

Round 1: Alpha Ghoul
From beyond the area of the light spells, to the southeast, there comes the sound of bare footsteps, followed by a gagging hiss. "Foe of All Good, send us a token of thy esteem!"

Knowledge (religion) 11:
The speaker is invoking Nerull, the god of death, evil, and the Underworld. Nerull is the main patron deity for the undead and is, in fact, also known as "Hater of Life".

A ghostly scythe of rattling bones appears in front of Farrukh and slashes out.

Good hope is up, buff-wise. Nothing else that affects the whole group.

Eben's finger clicks a button on his rod, almost imperceptibly casting cat's grace on himself. Much, much more noticeable is his voice ringing out in response to the speaking ghoul, sounding for all the word like a fervent street preacher on a corner somewhere in the city. (Which is in fact exactly where he practiced this routine, it was a great little scam involving him and a buddy asking for 'donations' for fake Cuthbertine relics. Earned him a pretty penny or two back in the day, and Eben is amused at the irony that now he's using it to back up an honest to goodness priestess.)

"Woe unto ye, and abase thyselves before the puissance of Olidamarra's own chosen! Beware her might and potence, and the righteous power of her faith! Submit yourselves to the judgement of a power beyond your own! Flee before her strength, before you are unwoven into unsightly necromantic stains! Gosh, I'm glad I'm not an unliving abomination, because this s@&& will surely hurt like a b$@~&! "

Using Requiem feat to affect ghouls with Dirge of Doom; all the ones within 30 feet of Eben are Shaken.

Out of the corner of his mouth, in between foretellings of doom upon all things undead, he says to Astraden, "I think they're ready for you now..."

Swift action: cast cat's grace on me. Free action: drop rod. Move action: activate Dirge of Doom. Move action: draw bow.

Did Rodrigo agree to cast mage armor on Tanith earlier?

Astraden splits into two forms, then begins to build up divine energy in her body through her connection with Olidammara. Once Eben completes his spell, white and gray light shines from around the half-orc's breastbone, seeming to emanate from underneath her illusory leather jerkin. The light brings with it a sound of keening, and the undead before the group feel their minds struck by a god-given terror.

She then steps forward, fighting the urge to vomit.

Oh, and I seem to have stupidly run within 10 feet of a ghast. Great move, Eben.

Fortitude: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 4 + 2 = 22

Eben gags on ghastly stench, but doesn't quite puke.

The arrow lodges in something. As the light passes over, Eben sees that his target is not a tiefling. Its skin is virtually covered in scar tissue. It carries a sack at its side, and its eyes gleam red with hate for all living. As it begins to back away, the ghast brandishes an unholy symbol of Nerull at Eben and speaks.

"I am no tiefling, mortal. Okoral can handle you on his own—we will not die on his account—but you will wish we had devoured you all when his unholy work is through! Soon that whole city shall be white and dead!"

Eben sees that the arrow stuck in the creature's shoulder, where its impact was largely absorbed by the scar tissue.

Tanith, Astraden, Farrukh and Rodrigo are up.

oh, a 17 hit? Honestly assumed it was a miss and didn't even bother.

No, sorry, forgot to say, it just lodged in scar tissue.

Does Astraden or Eben have a way to command undead? It sounds like this guy has some great information.

Tanith moves in next to Eben and hacks at one of the fleeing undead.

Chop (hope, haste): 1d20 + 13 - 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 13 - 2 + 2 + 1 = 24
Damage: 1d10 + 10 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 10 + 6 + 2 = 22

Make one more Fortitude save, DC 15, or be sickened for 6 minutes.

Another ghast falls in two pieces under Tanith's ferocious assault.
