"You are UGLY. Please die." Farrukh says, and runs over there to the priest.

Command... no. I might be able to fascinate/suggestion him. But I imagine he'll have a good Will save.
Farrukh Al'Khatel
Was he not the one outlined in green?
Edit: Nevermind, he and three other Ghasts were covered by a message.
Farrukh charges at the Ghast directly in front of him instead.
"Let's finish these things off! Who knows what they'll do if left down here."
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
It might be worth a shot. Did he get caught by the dirge of dooooom?
Erip would be able to command them. =(
Eben MacTeague
Yeah, he's DoD'd at the moment, but if I end it to try and fascinate him, he's no longer DoD'd. Someday I'll have a shadowbard and I can pull off double dipping stunts like that.
Actually, it's a moot point. Fascinate is non-combat only. Now, if you want to subdue him and then have a non-combat interrogation...
Dungeon Kobold
Farrukh slices through the throat of one of the ghasts that were a bit too slow to flee. It slumps to the ground.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
Tanith would wrestle him into submission but eww.
Eben MacTeague
Yeah, I think we just have to kill them all. Astraden could spend 2 APs to snag Versatile Channeler and Command Undead, but he'd still have a presumably pretty decent Will save vs. a DC 16 or so effect. Very likely that would just be a waste of good APs.
Astraden Limhaare
Spellcraft (sickened): 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 10 - 2 = 28
It'd be DC 17, but an undead with channel resistance AND cleric levels? This guy's Will save might actually beat Tanith's. And since I can't touch of chaos the guy and get the feat off in time for it to affect his save, he'd have only like a 10% chance of failing. Too bad quicken rods don't work on SLAs . . .
Astraden chases the fleeing undead, hidden mask bursting once again into familiar strangely monochrome light. This time, undead flesh touched by the light rapidly decomposes, turning to dust and earth. "Way ahead of you, Farrukh."
Fortitude (sickened): 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 8 - 2 = 10 Fortitude (sickened): 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 8 - 2 = 22
Channel positive energy (harming): 4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 2, 2) = 14

Screw it, the icons are too small for HP text. The ones with two Xs are very badly injured, the ones with one X are significantly injured.
The ghasts cringe as Astraden presses her god's assault, though this time their innate resistance seems to stave off most of the damage.
Rodrigo is up.
Rodrigo Dantares
Rodrigo moves into the chamber for a better view. Seeing the ghouls/ghasts fleeing his friends, he decides to try something he's been wanting to do for some time. He rushes forward on hasted feet, and chants a quick spell, making some gestures. A moment later a horse appears in the hallway the ghouls were fleeing into, snorting with panic and looking quite unhappy.
The cerebi rushes forward to help Farrukh, biting at the undead there.
Move forward, cast mount.
I would have given Tanith mage armor if he asked earlier and KC is okay with us retconning that in, sure. I know he said he was, but that was several posts ago.
Bite: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32
Damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Dungeon Kobold
The ghasts are barely holding together after Astraden's channel, and the fiend has no difficulty in slaying another of the foul undead.
FYI—the horse is squeezing there.
Round 4: Ghasts
Will Saves: 1d20 + 7 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 2 - 2 = 251d20 + 7 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 2 - 2 = 181d20 + 7 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 2 - 2 = 181d20 + 7 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 7 + 2 - 2 = 231d20 + 7 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 7 + 2 - 2 = 17
The remaining ghasts cast off the influence of Olidammara's power and turn, eyes gleaming with pure malice, to swarm the soul warden.
Astraden AoO: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 9 + 1 = 25 Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Claws @Astraden: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 5 - 2 = 151d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 5 - 2 = 141d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 5 - 2 = 151d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 5 - 2 = 131d20 + 5 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 2 - 2 = 81d20 + 5 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 5 + 2 - 2 = 151d20 + 5 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 5 - 2 + 2 = 111d20 + 5 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 2 - 2 = 6
Bites @Astraden: 1d20 + 5 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 2 - 2 = 81d20 + 5 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 5 - 2 + 2 = 24 Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 Plus make two Fortitude saves, one vs. paralysis, the other versus disease. If you roll less than a 15 on the first, you're paralyzed for 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 minutes.
Astraden guards herself expertly, but sheer numbers lead to one of the ghasts sinking its sharp teeth into her shoulder. She feels hot, rancid breath on her neck for one moment before the half-orc is able to shake the creature off of her.
Round 4: Carina is up.
Dungeon Kobold
Actually, scratch that. It looks like the DC against Astraden's channel is 1 point higher than I thought (Versatile Channeling craziness), so one of the ghouls just cowers there.
Eben MacTeague
Shouldn't Astraden have more channeling dice than that? 4d6 for being a 7th level cleric, doesn't Soul Warden give her another, and then she has a Phylactery of Positive Channeling. Shouldn't she be doing 7d6?
Dungeon Kobold
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Astraden channels positive, but she should be doing 6d6. And soul warden doesn't add to channel, just to effective level.
Extra Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 5) = 8
As if in some terrible prank by the rascally patron of tricksters and thieves himself, a second merry cackle suddenly echoes through the chamber just when the ghasts thought they were safe. Three ghasts shudder and collapse.
Carina is up.
Eben MacTeague
Off topic, because it's not my PrC, but I'm confused as to how Soul Warden works, then. So does that 1d6 'channel damage' ability basically function on its own? Not getting added to her cleric channeling, but it's essentially a separate pool that can be used x times per day in addition to what she could already do as a cleric?
Carina Viera
Round 3: Actions
Move Action: Move behind Rodrigo, drawing my crossbow as I move
Standard Action: Shoot ghast to the north of Astraden with my crossbow
Relieved that the spirit scythe is gone, Carina readies her crossbow and moves closer to the fray, stopping behind Rodrigo. The stench of the ghasts becomes stronger the closer she gets, but it's not overpowering yet, even with her mutagen-addled senses.
She levels her crossbow at a badly-wounded ghast and fires!
Ranged Attack (DEX Mutagen, Good Hope, PBS, Precise): 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 9 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 30
Damage (Good Hope, PBS): 1d8 + 1 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 + 2 + 1 = 11
Dungeon Kobold

It gives a separate pool, yes. I don't really like it, but that's how it's written.
He can channel damage a number of times per day equal to 3 + his Charisma modifier. Soul warden levels stack with levels in any class that grants channel energy for the purpose of determining the number of damage dice his channel energy ability deals to undead (if any).
Dungeon Kobold
Carina lodges a bolt in the ghast's eye, instantly ending its foul existence. The situation quickly turning into a ghassacre.
Also, it's Round 4, not Round 3.
Round 4: Ghast Cleric
Realizing the ugliness of the situation, the ghast turns and slashes and bites at the horse.
Claws: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 6 - 2 = 71d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 6 - 2 = 11 Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 5) + 4 = 11
Bite: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 6 - 2 = 10
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Fort Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 191d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 81d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
It hisses with irritation and fear as the horse proves remarkably resilient. triumph as the horse slumps, paralyzed. It begins to retreat.
Apparently the RNG is a brony. Aha! I forgot it was squeezing!
Round 4: Everyone except Carina is up!
Eben MacTeague
OK, I see now. I was reading the level stacking wrong (I'd offhandedly interpreted it as 'damage dice gained from Soul Warden levels stack with...')
Eben tries a different tactic, since the options for getting information out of this thing were otherwise limited. "Okoral? Who do you think paid us to come down here and clean all of you out? He doesn't want any witnesses left behind, you fools. So you'll never get to see the 'new city' he's promised. Isn't that sad?"
Bluff+good hope: 1d20 + 21 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 21 + 2 = 33
As he speaks, he steps up and lets a stream of arrows loose upon the remaining ghasts.

crit damage: 2d8 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 1) + 4 + 4 + 4 + 2 = 18
That probably ends non-cleric ghoul. All the rest of the shots are at clerical ghoul.

5-foot step, stop performing as a free action, arcane strike as a swift action, full attack (rapid shot, haste shot, & iterative attack).
dancing lights lasts 6 rounds, good hope lasts 76 rounds, cat's grace lasts 78 rounds.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
The ghast's eyes narrow, even as Eben efficiently ends the last creature standing between it and the party. It dodges one poorly-aimed arrow as it speaks. "Petty deception typical of the living. Ones like Okoral will rise and fall and rise again, but there will always be hunger. And there will always be—ARGH! M$~%~%@~@~!" Two arrows sink into its chest. It staggers, but does not fall.
Eben MacTeague
"Always be...?" Eben asks, genuinely inquisitively, as his arrows cut of the Nerulite's words.
Farrukh Al'Khatel
Farrukh sprints over there, because the only practical way to capture it would be for Tanith to tie it up.
He gags a bit, all this running making him queasy, but swings his sword regardless.
"Yeah. What a shame."
Slash: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29
Damage?: 1d6 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17
Dungeon Kobold
"We have been here for centuries, boy!" the ghoul rasps. "Once, we fed upon the foolish city, climbing up through these passages into the world above—then the accursed Raknian came and forced us down here, sealing our easiest route to the surface. Okoral is no master of ours—he only gave us meat and told our warren to slay any who seek to enter his lair to the west! But of course you know that!"

[dice=Slash]1d20+15
[dice=Damage?]1d6+15
Aided by the haste, Farrukh springs over and slashes, ending the ghast's unlife with a single swing of his blade.
End combat.
Eben MacTeague
Auto-success on that Sense Motive.
Eben grins and drops all pretense. "West? No, we didn't. That's the information we were looking for. Thanks," he says, politely, right before Farrukh turns the monster into sludge.
Eben MacTeague
As the sounds of battle and the stench of ghast subside, Eben frowns at the paralyzed, mauled, horse. "Rodrigo, that's just sick. Poor thing."
Dungeon Kobold
Basic Ghastly Conference map updated—I'll update the main one later.
To the west, a shallow pool of water occupies the southern part of the fifteen-foot-high cave. Several geometric graffiti are etched here and there on the walls. The river leading to the west is not completely submerged. It is only 3 feet deep, and flows west at a languid pace.
Carina Viera
Carina lowers her crossbow and reloads it.
"Hmm. Distressing." She wrinkles her nose at the sight of the paralyzed, maimed horse. "More interesting is location of Okoral's lair. West?" She arches an eyebrow.
Eben MacTeague
"That's what the man said..." Eben replies as he gives a last, sad look at the horribly mistreated equine then recasts his dancing lights over in the western corridor.
And now we're leaving it paralyzed and wounded, in the dark. And mount lasts hours. We're horrible people.
Dungeon Kobold
The paralysis will fade soon. Though it's still disabled.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
"West it is", Tanith says while kicking at the ghast cleric's remains.
Dungeon Kobold
Spiny's Six enters the western room. No strangely specialized trap or implausibly evolved monster reveals itself. At first.
The dead ghast's body is sent flying like a rag doll, landing on top of the fallen horse.
Farrukh Al'Khatel
"Hold still while I search for strangely specialized traps or implausibly involved monsters on the road ahead."
A check which I think I'm just going to take 10 on. 31 for general purposes, 34 vs traps as we head along. If anything beats that it CLEARLY doesn't want to be found, and has put a large amount of effort into doing so. Who am I to take that away from it?
Dungeon Kobold
Farrukh finds no strangely specialized traps. At one point he thinks he might have found an implausibly evolved monster, but it turns out sometimes a rock really is just a rock. Really, it's odd how paranoid Farrukh is.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
That was more of a 'searching the body' kick.
Downstream it is! Wait, downstream is west?
Dungeon Kobold
Tanith finds an unholy symbol of Nerull and a couple empty vials.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
Tanith smashes all of said things underfoot.

I think we've long since established Farrukh is paranoid. =) It's why his Perception is so high: Eventually he'll be able to hear the radio frequencies the feds are using to spy on him. :tin:
As an aside, it saddens me that this forum has no emoticons, and lacks a tinfoil hat guy in particular. The one my other forum uses is so cuuute!

Fortitude (sickened): 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 8 - 2 = 10

You still have good hope, so that cancels out the -2 from being sickened.
