Will there be any leveling during this?

Possibly, we'll use the medium EXP track and you get XP from whatever you do like you normally would.

Hey Jelani been awhile. I konw you love the Synth as do I. I am working on an Idea. Was thinking about tryint to play Thor but may be under optimized. I will work up an idea and start working on it.

Side note, Eidolons have D10's for HD so they get 6hp/per HD correct?

Yes.

So if I do Magus so I can wield lightning through my hammer is it ok if my Black Blade is a Black Warhammer? Thanks Jelani

While the archetype specifies slashing weapon, I don't see any mechanical reason it need be. A one handed hammer of some kind is fine, yes.

Yar!

Will you allow the Anti-Hero option of Hero Points (not for the melancholy lone wolf or the like, but for the reliance on personal skill and realism rather than luck and fate, ala Han Solo in episodes 5 & 6)?

EDIT: ...and will you permit use of the Piecemeal Armor optional rules from Ultimate Combat?

Thanks,

~P

I note that we are making a lvl 12 character, then adding the synth as a gestalt.

Since some of the feats I would like to have are not available for the single class I will be taking, would we be allowed to retrain? And if so, assume that the retrain has already happened?

Grand Lodge

Here's Enkidu. Still need to flesh out backstory and personality, but the rest- including the character sheet- should check out.

@Validk- Jelani made clear that when writing your BACKGROUND, we should write it as if we are getting our Summoner powers later. I take that as meaning that for everything else, including the character sheet, build it as if we've been synthesists for all our careers. I may be wrong, but that's my reading.

Validk - Yeah, any feats you use the eidolon's stats to qualify for you only have when fused to the eidolon. But go ahead and create the character as if it were gestalt all along for feats. When you bond the eidolon, I will hand wave anything your base character couldn't qualify for as mental reprogramming or something.

Pirate - No anti-hero. Yes piecemeal.

Enkidu - Stats look good from initial glance, but I'm going to need them in the actual profile. I know it's kind of a pain, but I don't want to be clicking to another site every time I look at your sheet. Especially since I can't access google docs everywhere. At a minimum you need to give me your combat stats in the profile (HP, THP, ACs, Saves, resistances/immunities, move speeds, attacks, CMB/CMD, feats).

Grand Lodge

Happy to convert it for text, I just find it's easier to create sheets with my template rather than starting with text from the beginning. Question, do you need to have it in text before you would be willing to accept Enkidu, or can I wait until I know I'm in before I convert?

Before please. I will be comparing all the characters mechanically as well as background/fluff wise.

Hi Jelani, I'm going Fetchling rogue. Does the fetchling resistance stack with the eidolon resistance gained from favored class:summoner?

Ok got crunch mostly worked out. Got to get fluff, equipment, and spells. Trust me, I will come up with a great story for a CG dumb as bricks gobo.

Yar!

We'll, from the 3 characters I put forth earlier, I've eliminated 1. Now I'm deciding between two: Vega Surtova and Nicholas/Bots.

Vega's Eidolon is the same size as he is, and appears to be little more than energy radiating from him, like super focused Ki.

Nicholas's Eidolon takes the form of his third gun, the Angel Arm, which is basically a huge serpentine Eidolon with a breath weapon 3x /day to emulate his arm turning into a giant gun, blasting everything in front of him with powerful energy.

I think I'll completely build both over the course of the next day, and then probably post both characters here.

But first, more questions! :D

Q1: The Guided melee weapon property was published in 2008 in Pathfinder 10: A history of Ashes. So while it came out around the same time as the Pathfinder rules first came out, and was published by Paizo under the Pathfinder (campaign setting) name, the property is technically still 3.5. Would I be allowed to use it? (I'm really hoping to avoid relying on brute force/strength as much as possible, and I also greatly prefer the style of it over the Agile weapon property, even though doing so would be more "optimized")

Q2: Which rules takes precedence: Ammunition rules (destroyed if you hit, 50% chance of destroyed if you miss), or the Returning property (say if you paid full price instead of ammunition price to make a single piece of ammunition magical, or are wearing a Belt of Mighty Hurling, Greater which imparts the Returning property to all thrown weapons. I'm specifically thinking about Shurikens, and whether I should purchase 20+ of each type I think I'll need, or 5 of each that I think I'll need plus that belt (which is actually a considerably more expensive route right off the bat, but potentially worth while in a very long run... if it works at all).

Q3: Many feats designed with the Monk in mind state that it can be used a number of times per day equal to the monks level plus 1/4 levels of other classes. Stunning Fist for example. Would a gestalt Monk 12 || Summoner 12 have 12 uses per day, or 15 uses per day?

Q4: Wayfinders and Ioun stones! Will we be using the resonating powers as described in Seekers of Secrets, and if so, method 1 or method 2? (d20pfsrd has them detailed HERE).

Thanks in advance!

~P

I am from the epic game that you linked here from, I am Crash, and I am also quite interested in this :) Let me see what I can come up with XD

Looking things over you have created the unique senario needed to create this idea I have had in my mind for the longest time. A build so... specific that it has never been able to be built before, not even in two epic level campaigns. Yet you got exactly the ingredients required to pull it off.
Quick crunch,
Synthisist 12/gunslinger 1, twf fighter 11, goblin (human would work better but goblin is the original concept), dual-wielding shotguns.
Required:
Guns everywhere, so I only need 1 level of gunslinger and reduce the stupid high gun costs.
Gunslinger 1, for gun training and basic grit
Twf fighter, to reduce twf penalties, double-tap as a standard, full BAB, and the feats to pull it off.
Synthesist, for durability, 3rd arm and high dex, because this build is so focused on damage it needs something in the way of defense and the dexterity to pull it off as well as a 3rd hand to reload.
Drawbacks that need to be overcome:
To hit. Twf (-4), firing two-handed weapon one handed (-4), firing double barrels (-4), firing overlarge gun (-2), short range (-1-4). Total -18 to hit :P
Fix: improved balance, goblin gunslinger, weapon focus, full bab, sky high dex and enchanted weapons will give me actual chances of hitting XD
Reloading. This is the only one you didn't give me :P I might have to use double barreled rifles to shoot fast enough. Summoner solves the extra hand problem.
Defenses. With this build so focused on offense just to get it to work, having the synthisist would be great to reduce my squishyness and MAD.

See what I mean by specialized? :P
Now time to get to work building it XD

Gobos be invading. Too bad trench fighter doesnt stack with two weapon fighter.

Validk - They do not stack, they overlap. You take the total resistance from favored class, or the fetchling's whichever is higher. Ie. you take 10 levels of favored class bonus as cold resist, your cold resist would go up to 10, but you'd still only have 5 electricity.

Bitey - Can you put the eidolon numbers on the right side of "/" like I did in my example alias please? I'd also like to see your advancement choices spelled out like I did there. You also have an oracle curse and revelation listed, did you take levels in oracle or is that a mistake? Other than that what you have so far looks pretty good. Basically everything focused on the bite. eh?

Pirate - I prefer an original character over a homage. In other words I'm more likely to pick Vega than Vash. Guided weapon enchantment is fine. Ammunition rules take precedence. In fact, shuriken are not throwing weapons, they are ammunition (according to a strict RAW, which is what I'm going for). Q3 - 12 uses, a gestalted level counts as one level in either class, but not both. Q4 - Yeah, sure. Method 1.

Gobo - Just go serpentine (for the dex), and evolve 5 arms. One for reloading, two per shotgun. Eidolon is medium sized, so no penalties other than TWF, and double barrels. However, rapid reload does nothing for a shotgun. so if you fire four barrels a round, the next round you're gonna have to take two move actions to reload both guns (one each). Since most combats last around three rounds, you can just buy six shotguns and you'll be good with quick draw.

Total change on concept after working thinking and working it out last night. Building Colossus. Looking forward to building and writing backstory.

I'm guessing with Tiefling and Aasimar that subing spell like for things off the %chart is a no, but I will ask anyways :) thanks.

Yeah, that's a no.

Crunch (including level progression) and writing his response to The Call still to in progress, but I'd like to introduce Gror Durrikson, Dwarven Inquisitor (Spellbreaker):

Concept
Gror grew up in a small Dwarven community within Trollheim, raised on bitter ancestral stories of the Winter War, and with the knowledge that most of those around were too chaotic and undisciplined to be trusted to protect, let alone avenge. He -- like his father and uncle before him -- was trained as a Spellbreaker, working together with the Blackravens, protecting the Lands of the Linnorm Kings from incursions from the Witch-realm of Irrisen.

He worships both Torag and his brother Angradd. His father and most of his ancestors swore their primary allegiance to Torag, Father of Creation...but a small minority (including his now-lost uncle Dunag) believe that a more proactive stance is needed, and favor Angradd for his aggressive tactics. Dunag taught Gror that to wait and defend was to simply delay defeat. Sadly, Dunag disappeared on a foray into Irrisen 14 years ago and hasn’t been seen again.

Gror has taken up Dunag’s mantle, finding what allies he can who’re willing to make proactive incursions against the witches of Irrisen. He has grown powerful over the years, and won some hard victories against the witches...but he is wise enough to know that he’s not yet ready for a full assault. When drunk on too much ale he’ll rail against the looming threat of the witches of Irrisen, harranging those around him to take it more seriously. When sober, he knows enough to grudgingly accept that most of those around him simply don’t understand the need for proactive vigilance...and he should move on and find those who do. Accordingly he practices constantly, builds alliances, bides his time when he must, and strikes against the witches that he’s trained his whole life to defeat as often as he’s able.

Appearance
Alternately a weathered Dwarf of the far North...or (more recently) a large, weathered stone gargoyle.

Note
Part of why I'm sharing backstory before crunch is because I'd love feedback on it (from the GM and/or any interested. If there are parts that don't work with the world -- or could be enriched -- I'd love to hear them.

Thanks,

Crunch question:
I'm leaning toward building my Eidolon to only use natural attacks (to keep them all as primary, since I believe that attacking with a weapon makes all natural attacks be treated as secondary), but I want him to be able to utilize rods/wands in Eidolon form.

Does a default quadruped have the ability to use a rod/wand? Or if not, what would it take to be able to?

Yar!

Default quadruped cannot use wands, as it only has legs (four of them). In order to be able to use wands, you must purchase the Limbs evolution for 2 points and specify them as arms (not more legs). Once you do that, your quadruped can now use wands and/or wield items/weapons with them. Then you can add either the Claws evolution for 1 point or the Slam evolution for 1 point to those new arms to give them natural attacks.

~P

Hey, Jelani. Looks like you have quite a few people trying for this one, but I'll give it a shot anyway. I've never used a summoner of any kind so creating the character should be interesting if nothing else. I have played gestalt before.

Anyway I shall be working something up. Hope I can make the deadline. :)

Gyrfalcon - Concept is nice, a good fit for this adventure. I mean I'd always like to see more detail, but completed crunch by the deadline is more important.

Everyone - For this game I will allow the Tentacle evolution to also count a limb for the purpose of opening doors, grabbing spell components and using wands and/or other one handed magic items. No wielding weapons though.

Dotting. This looks like it will be a lot of fun once I hammer out a solid character design.

Grand Lodge

@DM Jelani- just a question I know our Gunslingers will want to ask; would a Tentacle suffice for reloading weapons?

No. Nothing with weapons.

Yar!

Just an fyi, because we are going for as close to RAW as is possible (and you said you welcome clarifications whenever possible)...

DM Jelani wrote:
In fact, shuriken are not throwing weapons, they are ammunition (according to a strict RAW, which is what I'm going for).

Technically they are both:

CRB and PRD wrote:

Thrown Weapons: Daggers, clubs, shortspears, spears, darts, javelins, throwing axes, light hammers, tridents, shuriken, and nets are thrown weapons. The wielder applies his Strength modifier to damage dealt by thrown weapons (except for splash weapons). It is (...)

Ammunition: Projectile weapons use ammunition: (...) Generally speaking, ammunition that hits its target is destroyed or rendered useless, while ammunition that misses has a 50% chance of being destroyed or lost.

Although they are thrown weapons, shuriken are treated as ammunition for the purposes of drawing them, crafting masterwork or otherwise special versions of them, and what happens to them after they are thrown.

(obviously the bolding and the text exclusions (...) are my doing)

It doesn't really make a difference to your ruling up-thread, but there are instances where the distinction (or the fact that they are both rather than one or the other) do make a difference (for example, adding Str to damage).

^_^

Word.

Yar!

Two more *maniacally evil laughter*

1: Factions in Golarion: should I assume any connections with them is for flavor only and not mechanics (Fame/Prestige, etc)? (fyi: Vega is allied with both the Kusari-Gama and the Pathfinders)

2: Would you prefer our HP to be as a grand total or as two entries, one for base HP, and one for temporary/eidolon HP? (I initially did grant total HP as I expect to always be using Fused Link to spread the damage in order to keep my eidolon up as long as possible... though I can easily and quickly change it to two totals if you prefer that)

~P

After further thought, I think that I will play a Wizard. Probably a Conjurer, which will mold well with the Summoner Aspects of the Synthesist. His/Her Eidolon would be a highly protective suit of armor.

next question, does evasion from rogue and evasion from eidolon stack to provide improved evasion?

Yar!

Vega is essentially finished, just need to hyperlink everything and copy-paste a few things in so it's all in one place. (and find a good avatar for him. Blargh the paizo selection is so... inadequate sometimes!)

Validk: from what I've seen (rules discussions both IRL and on various forums, including this one), the answer is usually no. Unlike Uncanny Dodge, there is no text in the evasion ability calling out an upgrade to a different ability if you have it from two different sources. Ergo, they overlap instead of stack.

Every instance of uncanny dodge that I've found specifically states "If a (class) already has uncanny dodge from a different class, she automatically gains improved uncanny dodge (see below) instead."

Evasion has no such text.

In 3.5's Complete Warrior, there were instances where such text appeared with Evasion, but Pathfinder has not included such text for evasion anywhere (that I know of).

And it makes sense in my opinion. Uncanny Dodge to Improved Uncanny Dodge would happen at about the same time whether by sticking with the same class or by multiclassing into another class with it. Evasion on the other hand is a level 2 ability for most classes that grant it, yet Improved Evasion is only available as an optional ability after you're at least 9th or 10th level in the class that grants it. Would be kinda cheap to be able to get it at level 4 (five/six whole levels early) simply by multiclassing.

(though again, I'm not the GM for this game)

Few things. I would need 6 arms to do that, as I can only get them in pairs, the big image I was going for was using one hand a piece for the shotguns, if I wanted pure optimization I would take as many arms and as many double-barreled pistols as possible with the wulti-weapon feat and turn into a mini bregade all to my lonesome :p

5 sets of arms so 10 guns, 20 barrels, improved twf, greater twf, rapid shot, haste... assuming a to hit of 20, it would look something obsene like this...

wall of lead:
20/20/20/20/20/20/20/20/20/20/20/20/20/20/20/20/20/20/20/20/20/20/20/20/15/ 15/15/15/15/15/15/15/15/15/15/15/15/15/15/15/15/15/15/15/10/10/10/10/10/10/ 10/10/10/10/10/10/10/10/10/10/10/10/10/10 64 shots in total :P There will be missfires. There will be criticals ^-^ Even if you ruled that imp twf only granted 1 extra attack instead of one per it would still be 32 attacks. Ammo costs would be obsene and reloading would take a long time :P

No, I will build something a bit different :P something a little more fun then trying to roll umpteen bajillion dice 8D
Best thing? Take richocet shot and bounce bullets EVERYWHERE!!! XD ignore armor, cover, concealment target touch AC, ya..

How are you for this rule?

It was a peaceful day in Bellis, frontier town at the northern edge of Andoran along the Sellen River. Vega, a simple looking man hailing from the Valley of Fire in Brevoy, kneels by some plants outside his temporary home here. While he has left his "noble" family and their corruption behind, he still bears the family name, for - despite their darker sides - they have good within them too... enough to honour and respect them while away.

Vega inhales deeply, taking in the scent of beeswax, honey and mead that permeates this little village. His breath is long enough to finally pick up the scent of his garden, faintly tinging the aftertaste with a mix of spice and green freshness. There is peaceful simplicity to be found in gardening, but today it cannot cleanse all of Vega's thoughts.

It will happen today. I foresaw it in my dreams, and each day it becomes more vivid. There is trouble brewing, and today I shall meet the herald of this portent. I know that with the herald comes the next step of focusing my chi, and awakening my anima... and it will quickly be put to the test.

Vega breaths in the scents of his garden once more, opens his eyes, and leans forward to trim and shape the bonsai in front of him, while the other plants shift softly in a cool breeze. The hosta leaves dance, while the nearby wisteria bends just enough to bring shade to Vega's eyes.

There is no need to trouble myself with it right now though. There is naught to do but wait until the truth is revealed. Going forwards without knowledge will just bring about greater ruin. Vega continues his contemplations while watching the going-ons of the townsfolk beyond his modest garden. Day in and day out, they toil, unaware of much of the outside world, and for the better, for in their focus of their day to day tasks, they accomplish much, and so do I. Sometimes today it will come, but until then, I will continue my personal work, and do good here while I am still here.

His hands are dirty and strong, and despite the heat from the sun on this clear day, a serene smile crosses Vega's face. Even though he knows that something but is going to happen, this moment, this one moment, is beautiful, peaceful, and full of life.

Vega continues to work in this garden.

Mariah wrote:
With a flash of bright white light a lithe and beautiful nude woman with skin the color of marble appears before you, hovering upon powerful white wings and radiating a sense of serenity. "Fear not mortal, I mean you no harm." she says in your native tongue. "My name is Mariah. I am an Archon of Iomedae, The Inheritor." Her voice is like beautiful music, pure and without fault. She carries a long thin gleaming silver trumpet that is covered in swirling, natural-looking patterns. "I am here because your deeds are known to us. My mistress bids me invite you to take part in mission of dire importance. Events have been set in motion that if not stopped, will lead to a terrible evil being unleashed on Golarion. We have prepared a gift for you that will make you stronger than you've ever been before, hopefully strong enough to avert disaster. My commander awaits us, with answers for your questions. Time is of the essence, will you come with me?" Her chest-length, midnight black curls wave gently in an unseen wind, as she extends one perfect hand out towards you, a look of urgency in her iridescent blue eyes.

I know. Vega thought when the herald first appeared. However, he did not answer, nor show any signs of fear or shock. Instead he continued to work with the plants before him, for the flash of light happened right in the middle of the replanting of a baby maple in freshly tilled soil. With movements practiced and perfect, he pushes the fresh soil over the roots and pats it down to secure the plant in it's new home. Slowly, he lifts his head to give his attention finally to the Archon.

"I knew today would be the day. I have dreamt of your coming, and have already prepared. This was my final task, and all of my effects are already born. Of course." Vega rises with one fluid motion, and an unseen flick of his wrists seems to have removed nearly all of the dirt at the same time. He holds his right hand forwards, palm up and fingers together to accept her hand. His eyes contrast hers, not only in their dark colour, but in their cool temperament as well. He knows he will soon find the same urgency as hers, but he also knows that there is never an appropriate time for clouded thoughts. Just before their hands connect, Vega follows up on his acceptance.

"There is no need to promise gifts for service, but boons to aid in the fight coming will not be turned away. All that matters is the very world in which so many live be protected. In that, I give you my hand. Take me where I must be."

Yeah I made a change and forgot to fix it in the up above. I will reformat his info as soon as I am done cleaning it up and finalizing things.

Color me intrigued. Let's see what I can cook up.

Yar!

So, unless something pops up in the avatar list that is at least close to how I envision Vega (or there is great objection from everyone), I may keep the symbol of the green faith instead of an actual mugshot for his avatar, to represent Vega's appreciation for life and the natural world (and skills as a gardener). *continues to scour the avatar list for better options*

Real world pics that I think work well:

Vega
Overflowing with Ki

Also, I sketched up some Heraldy for Vega, as he is noble born of the Surtovas, ruling family of Brevoy. Vega's Crest. The background is the same as the Brevian crest, but the two-headed red dragon wielding weapons has been replaced with something more fitting to Vega himself, a bonsai tree.

IP man :D
I loved those movies! They are some of my favorites :)

Yar!

Ip man is pretty awesome, gotta admit. ^_^

But (in the interest of making it more likely to get into the game), it's really quite easy to attribute iconic movie/book/historical/mythological characters to D&D/Pathfinder/RPG characters. I could take any number of famous martial artists in movies, the actors themselves, and/or from anime and books, on their own or in various combinations of them (heck, many of the archetypes are based on individual iconic movie and historical martial artists to describe any number of monk characters... Beggar So aka the Drunken Master for example is the inspiration for the Drunken Master Archetype, so any of those monk characters could be inspired by or a possible homage to that mythological and movie depicted character)... Nicholas/Bots (one of my other character ideas) was definitely an homage to Vash (with the twist of being much more interested in technology and devices and such, more like a Vash meets Tim the Toolman Taylor but much younger), while Vega is very much rooted in Golarion lore and is his own thing (with some similarities to Ip man, like what I think he should look like, and general ass-kickery).

hehe, hehehehe... *nervous laugh*

^_^;;

(though if Vega does get accepted, and he ends up having a glorious moment in battle, I may have to link to some youtube fight scenes to show just what kind of awesome may have just happened)

Viscount here (Dorin from the Conan game, in case you missed it), with my concept. Only just begun, but I've got the idea kicking around in my head, so here's the basic thought:

------------------------------------------------------------------
A dwarven barbarian of great renown, the bluish streaks in his hair and beard (some say owing to dragon ancestry) earned him his nickname, and it was a name feared far and wide by the enemies of his clan. A great fighter and greater hero, his advancing age had forced him to lay down his mighty axe years ago, when he lost the title of clan champion to his grandson in a ritual battle. It was at the same time his day of greatest pride and worst shame.

When Mariah appeared to him, he was on his deathbed, his spirit still willing, but his flesh grown weak. With a touch of the archon's hand, however, his aged heart ceased its fluttering, and he felt the old quickening of his blood again. He gave her a grin, gripped her hand, and was whisked away for one last adventure - but not forgetting to grab his trusty flask.
------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll be working on it the next few days, but there's the idea. The age is just for flavor, I'm not bothering with penalties/bonuses unless you want me to. I figure his eidolon is pretty much just himself in his youth - or rather, how he pictured himself. A huge berserk dynamo, fueled by rage, liquor, and adventure.

Pirate - Factions are fluff only. I need to see HP and THP seperate as THP can only be healed by restore eidolon spells. Vega looks really good man. I like the character, the sheet is very detailed and well laid out. There a few minor things that need finishing, but I'm sure they'll be done by Sunday (the URLs are awesome, but I'm not requiring them). Close enough that I'll make him the first character on the list :)

Validk - No, evasions don't stack.

Gobo - Can you be more specific about what you're going for with the siege weapon?

Viscount - Sounds fun. I always make synthesists who are physically disabled in some way without their eidolons. I think it makes them more interesting. I guess being really old isn't a disability, but you know what I mean.

Ye Olde Liste of Applicants

Vega Surtova Human Monk (of various archetpyes) 12 [bipedal monk ability focused eidolon]

DM Jelani, to take a feat (e.g. Power Attack) does the character need to meet min attributes without the eidolon, or is just with the eidolon OK, assuming he won't be able to use it without the eidolon?

You can take feats that you only qualify for with the eidolon bound, but you can't use the feats when your eidolon is dismissed.

DM Jelani, I have some questions regarding Half-Elf given the nature of gestalts. I'm also thinking around making a Half-Elf spontaneous caster since Charisma powers both spell lists.

1) Half-Elves have two favored classes. How does that work with gestlats? If you make their favored class Summoner and something else, would they get favored class points to both classes?

2) Is Paragon Surge alright? I know it's rather controversial, but with all of this power granted by Synthesists, I don't think it would be anything that too crazy for this champaign. If anything, it would just be to grab a much needed spell on the fly.

I just realized that I wrote bipedal, but Vega is serpentine. Whoops.

Cosmic Dream Lord - You still only get 12 favored class boni. If you are only single classed besides synthesist then the half-elf thing provides you no benefit. Paragon surge is fine.
