The first time you try to use a new magic item if you fail a UMD check by 10 than there is a "mishap" that will probably not be very pretty for you. After successfully activating the item the DC lowers and there is no chance for any explosive backlash.

It would be nice to have some real input from Kharn and Eryan about it.

Argan can still try the wand. with +7 on UMD the chance I have to fail is 15%, and drops to 10% if I take the circlet of charisma. In any case Evasion would usually save me, so I'm willing to take chances. But the sneak away plan seems more safe.


The chance to fail is higher since the first time you mess with an item you are activating it blindly. Also, there is no save on the damage.

Also, did you know feather fall is multi-target? I always thought it was single target. Huh.

Yes I know. That's why I've been trying to use Eryan's ability in our favor, but it looks like he doesn't rely on it much...

I played a dwarven stalwart defender once. My CMD was so high a great wyrm couldn't move me at level 10. It was utter hilarity how unkillable he was.

Hmm, I seem to remember that when you spent some time with the good Cardinal you fought some mithral snakes. Didn't happen to scavenge their armor plating did you?..

We actually did, but Yodler told me the Mithral would only reduce the value needed to craft the armor, so, since there wasn't much treasure at the time, I would be keeping more than half the money we had, and would still need more 2k gold to finish paying it up. So, not a good deal.

So we sold the 90 lbs or mithral for the ridiculous ammount of 2100 gp... I tell you, even the GMs are wicked in this campaign...

It's on line 38 of our treasure.

Yes, attack the Cardinal. The first book doesn't even have his stats. It just says the first spell he casts and what the DC is, then assumes the combat is now over.

Whats the height of the top level of the tower Omen? Im curious if we could run and jump using feather fall and have enough room to clear the river to the opposite side?

Four stories with a roof sound like 50'.. It appears the shortest jump distance to the other side is about 120'.. With a running start i think that would be paossible for sure.. If nothing else you land in the river and swim to the other side..

We could jump to the wall and use the darkness to get there, already destroying the little porticulis that leads to the upper bridge, burn the arrows while someone is invisible on the tower, and maybe even destroy the upper bridge, to leave the gatehouse isolated from the rest.

We can raise the main drawbridge from the 2nd level of the gatehouse.. Barring the door from the little bridge and raising the drawbridge should be our number 1 priority.. After that we can clear out the gatehouse and hopefully hold it down till backup arrives..

We should be able to keep the little bridge covered from level 3 by moving the siege weapons to that side and fireing away..

Don't forget that the tower level 3 (#38) hs two thousand arrows, several arrows slits and an awesome view of the Gatehouse, specially of the top of it. We cannot over the little bridge standing on top of it, unless the arrows have been all burned. We would be easy prey for 100 soldiers...

I don't think he went over it.. Perhaps it was just missed.. It is kinda vague in the creation rules where it suggests todo that.. I wouldnt' even have known myself but someone said something about it in another game.. The reasoning behind it is that Evil Characters are naturally more hooked up than good ones..

If its up to a vote I would say yes on having 2 extra skills per level..

As a side note, Hows the write up coming Omen?
