Vironus Antilles |
Turning to the group, Vi says It seems my suspicions were correct. I feel our next stop should be the villa we saw by the shore. Call it gut instinct if you will.
Vi looks to Urtar, saying he'd like to keep hold of the note and gem for now.
Ulrik Snow |
Ulrik finishes his soup with a single large Gulp then rises."You planning on investigating this as well? If so why don't we rest tonight then set out first thing in the morning? Also you will need to get some real clothes..."As he finishes the last sentence he tugs on his leather and fur clothing.
By the Way: Anyone know of what some of the best Level 0 Cleric Spells are as well as the 1st Level Spells? I am still converting his Stat Block into my standard block.
Vironus Antilles |
Where might we find such a person?
Vi puts both the gem and note away before talking once more to nobody in particular.
I feel that's all we can do for now. It's late, we're in need of rest and it's far too cold outside for safe travel. Let's meet up at 8am tomorrow down here.
Vi turns to Dangrio, How much for a room? I might be here a while.
Vironus Antilles |
Is Ulrik speaking to Vi? He's in furs. :-P Also, light and guiding light or something (the cantrip that gives you +1 to attack rolls) have been my fave abs most useful. Acid splash and ray of frost too. :-)
Ulrik Snow |
He was speaking to the entire Group in relation to a Cold Weather Outfit and Furs Combo. I am think Light, Stabilize, and Virtue or Guidance. I am thinking of having him having cast his 1st level Spells for today. Otherwise I have 1 or 2 open Spell Slots and then the Glory Domain Spells. I miss the Cure Minor Wounds Orison...
Vironus Antilles |
Looks that way. The name's Vironus Antilles.
Vi puts his hand out to shake hands with this new face, before going upstairs to bed for the night.
River Calah |
Acid Splash and Ray of Frost are not on the Cleric Spell list. I always go with things like : Create Water, Purify Food and Drink and Guidance (or Light if I don't have Darkvision).
I watch everything in silence but once the Gem starts to talk I try to hide from it, but failing to do so. At the mention of witches, I turn my head and listen to what is being said more intently and when the mention of beware of the friendly guise, I lower my eyes a little. While my eyes are lowered I see that Arirai has finished his piece of fish and water and is looking a little scared too, so I pick him up and place him back on my lap, where he relaxes a little bit.
Ulrik Snow |
Ulrik will end up returning to the main room shortly after leaving."I almost forgot... Who is part of Lord Antilles's Group? Who is willing to join our little quest? Know we know not what we will meet. Though it could be anything from a Hag to a Lich. Heck, we might even encounter a Fiend or one of Fiendish Ancestry. So I ask again who is brave enough to undertake this task?"As he glances around he looks at everyone in the face. Lingering his gaze on the Woman with the Oter before moving on.
River Calah |
I look to the man now speaking up and feel his gaze linger on me, "We were travelling with him, but were not part of his group. All of us at this table have been sent her to rid the world of an evil or to protect innocents, or both. This appears to be the evil we were sent here to defeat or seal, so I think I speak for all of us here, but we will travel with you to do what must be done. My friends may have some questions for you though."
Lou Kasuri |
Lou looks up a mouth full of food. having at least five different dishes before him sampling each one.
after a quick swallow witches? liches? fiends?]/b] he glances at the table [b]] ohh look..beans
he grabs a spoonful oh yeah count me it, but need something warmer before braving that cold. he grabs the mug that Vi gave hime and takes a swig.

Dangrio seeing your well refined palate and joy of food, slowly increases the heat of the food he brings you.
Rogar the Beardless |
"I almost forgot... Who is part of Lord Antilles's Group? Who is willing to join our little quest? Know we know not what we will meet. Though it could be anything from a Hag to a Lich. Heck, we might even encounter a Fiend or one of Fiendish Ancestry. So I ask again who is brave enough to undertake this task?"
All of us at this table have been sent her to rid the world of an evil or to protect innocents, or both. This appears to be the evil we were sent here to defeat or seal, so I think I speak for all of us here, but we will travel with you to do what must be done.
Rogar raises his hand. "Where she goes, I will follow. I'm in."
So many posts...
River Calah |
I look at Rogar, smile and nod at him. I then turn back to face the new man, "You can lead, I don't mind personally. You may have to take it up with everyone else, just please don't lead us into unnecessary danger or fights, please."
I let him sit down and wait for the map to be presented.
I know, loads of posts.
River Calah |
I let out a relieved sigh, "That is more than enough to convince me you are suitable to be the team leader. Not only do you think sensibly, your say you have previous experience and most importantly, you know the area better than we do."
I start to stroke Arirai again, "My name is River by the way, this ..." I gesture to the otter on my lap, "...is Arirai. The young men beside myself are Master Rogar, who is eager to complete his mission ... and Ser Masrcus, a valiant man who protects those who need it. I trust them both, completely. The final member of this table is Desnold, a man of few words, who as far as I can tell wants to complete his duty."
I gesture towards Vironus and Lou, "Those 2 also came with us, you have already spoken with Vironus, the other man is a skilled chef. They have become quite close it would seem, I have not really spoken with either of them yet. Vironus is rather hasty and enjoys unnecessary violence."
Lou Kasuri |
"A Warrior who goes into unnecessary battles will rarely live long enough to see his Grandchildren."
lou offers his Tien wisdom to that comment...out of the blue after all he seemed to not be listening
A warrior that goes into unnecesary battles rarely even has grandchildren
he then pulls out a book and makes some notes.

Sleep is not my friend ever...
Yangrit looks around. "Aye, I'll make sure Sumak has a map available for ya. If ya gonna help us, we be payin your room. Tis the least we can do for ya."
Yangrit yawns widely. "Forgive my tired ol' self, and ma achin' bones. I have a few more stops to make before I head to my bed, so I be leavin' ya. Don' think I don' appreciate the help mind. I'll get things settled with Sumak, you'll have something to keep ya warm, an that map ye wantin." She stands up, grabbing her hammer, and walks towards the door. "Stay warm." With that, she walks out to the street.
River Calah |
IejirIsk |
Dangrio speaks up, and replies to River, "Sure, that be no problem. I got plenty of room. Don't get many visitors here. Stay warm."
Assuming you sleep
The rooms are clean, if a tad unfurnished. There is just the simple bed, chest, and endtable. You certainly have slept in worse. The night passes by in the blink of an eye, as you slumber. Descending the stairs, the main room is much quieter. A halfling stands behind the counter on a box, greeting you with a hearty hello.
River Calah |
Before retiring to my room I wish everyone on my table a hearty good night, pick up the saucer that was given to me and head upstairs. Once in my room I fill up the saucer with cool water again, placing it at the end of my bed. Undress and curl up tightly in the blankets, with Arirai curled up beside me.
I wake up very early in the morning (before the sun has risen) to Arirai's nudging my hand with his head and I absent mindedly stroke him before he pushes harder and I wake up. I dress and go to the bathroom, where I stand in the bath, undress again and raise my hands over my head, where a load of water rushes out of my head and down my body. The water is cold and I shiver ... to anyone walking passed the bathroom there is a peculiar sight, an Otter guarding the door and growling at any that try to approach. Once I have finished washing I dress and come downstairs, where I smile at the small man. "Good morrow to you, do you know what time breakfast is?"
River Calah |
"Oh, are you the cook? Just some fresh fruit and some bread will suffice for myself, thank-you." I look the small man over carefully, "You wouldn't happen to be Sumak, would you?"
Vironus Antilles |
As a new day arises, Vi wakes up, outstetching his arms and yawning.
As he lifts the covers from himself and places his legs on the floor, he sits up, on the end of his bed thinking.
That gem last night. Placing it onto the man's body revealed a clue that might not otherwise have been discovered. We'd all best work together if we're to solve this mystery. If one of us get struck by the curse there's no coming back, and it didn't look like a particularly pleasant way to go.
Vironus puts on his armour and boots, equips his weapons and gear, then heads downstairs.
Feeling chirpy, having had one of the best night sleeps in years, he walks down to the seating area and notices both River and the Halfling.
You're lively! says Vi to the Halfling.
Untrained Sense Motive on River: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 To gauge how she feels about Vi's company
Unsure on whether he should approach the girl, Vironus sits on the edge of a table beside River and asks her In light of yesterdays findings, I believe once we find Sumak, the Villa is the first location of which we should visit today. Hopefully we'll uncover some truth behind the latest misfortunes around here.
Airing his thoughts out loud to spark more conversation, Vi speaks passionately; I could do with a warm bowl of porridge right about now! It'd be a fine meal to get the day started, of which I'm eager to see what kind of adventures may lay ahead!
River Calah |
I bow my head to Tinious, "I am very sorry for the confusion, if it has caused offense I am even more sorry. Everyone here is still so new to me. Does that happen often then, the snow glare?"
I hear Vironus coming before I see him and I keep an eye on him as he approaches and sits by me. Arirai starts to growl nervously, but not as much as yesterday, "Maybe he thinks we need him? Well I can't trust him just yet. I would feel so much safer with Rogar or Marcus here right now. What if he starts a fight with me?" The fact I feel uncomfortable with Vironus sitting so close to me is obvious, but I don't leave or tell him to leave. "We should leave the decision up to Ulrik, but why the Villa?"
River Calah |
"Do you know of any good ways to prevent Snow Glare, my good man?"
Once we have our food, before I start to eat I shall do my usual creating of fresh water for Arirai and myself, look over to Tinious "Won't you break your fast with us Tinious?"
Vironus Antilles |
There is no need for concern of my presence, River. I am here for the same purpose as you. Some of you may have heard the message the gem conveyed, but it insisted we avoid the Mines and Castle, and with the Villa being so close to us, I feel it necessary to get whatever mysteries await us there, out of the way first....before further travel leads us to the forests.
As for Ulrik, he may lead alongside me, but not above. Victory is what I achieve best, and placing my life on the line for others is the highest service I can offer.
Vironus speaks softer and quieter under his breath; And if I fall, few of us will remain standing.
Lou Kasuri |
Lou, out of habit arrises extra early (probably before everyone else). and again out of habit starts to head to the kitchen. expecting a good day's work. the days's menu alrady running through his mind.
as he enters, seeing everything different. Hey who rearranged my kitchen? then it dawns on him, he's not at the Rusty Dragon.
but instead of just leaving he wanders around the kitchen seeing what it has to offer. looking for new ideas as well as ways to improve it.
Marcus Cramont |
Marcus gets up a little later than usual, still trying to adapt to the cold climate. After a few calisthenics and donning some more appropiate clothes, Marcus goes downstairs...
So many unanswered questions. We must be careful, it seems our very souls are at stake.
After seeing River and the others, Marcus walks towards them looking for a good start-up.
Rogar the Beardless |
As usual, Rogar doesn't sleep well. Nighttime is when the memories hit strongest, so it takes him a long time to finally sleep. As he comes down the stairs in the morning, it's pretty obvious that he's still tired, but he perks up when he sees River and Ariri and heads in that direction.
If there's anyone other than party members in the tavern, Rogar will put his hood up to hide his face. Otherwise, it'll be kept down until someone else enters.
Vironus Antilles |
Looking to Desnold, Vironus responds; The Villa should be the first place we travel to. The instructions were to avoid the Castle and Mines, with the forest also being a place of relevance, but we should visit the Villa first. It's smaller than the forest and so we're much more likely to find something there.
Marcus Cramont |
Upon hearing Vironus, Marcus change his route towards Vi and Desnold.
"As it seems the Villa is a logical choice to start our investigation, I think we should roam this town a little more. Keep in mind that we are against a curse, a curse we don't know how it works nor those who affect.
What if it spreads by contact or walking through a specific street? We must first find out against what are we facing before taking action... if don't, we could fall prey of this curse inadvertently."
Vironus Antilles |
Walking through a specific street seems unlikely. The man who ran here screaming must have known something was up, else he'd have just fallen over dead, not knowing he was effected by anything. I feel those who are doomed are aware of the curse being placed upon them.
I appreciate the concern, but I feel the best place to search for the cause may in fact be the Villa, so that's where I'm headed once everyone awakens. If you want to investigate this town further, I have no objections though.
Thinking for a second, Vi continues There are enough of us to split up if need be. This town is most likely safer than what awaits outside. Regardless, I feel 4 of us should venture together outside, with a further 3 remaining here. That way we can cover more ground quicker.
Looking at River I know our friend with the Otter over there is untrusting of me, so if you're to remain here, perhaps it's best she travels with you and one other. I'd like Ulrik and Lou by my side for now.
River Calah |
I notice Marcus and Rogar come down the stairs, I nod at them both and pull a chair out next to me beside for Rogar to sit down.
I listen to Vironus giving his orders, "He is really bossy too, but I do like his idea of splitting up. Means I don't have to stay by him for too long." I look about, "I would like to stay with Marcus and Rogar, so if they leave the town then so will I."
Vironus Antilles |
Pausing for a moment, Vironus turns to those around him.
Then it sounds like we're ready. Marcus and Rogar, you should stick with River and investigate around town while myself, Lou, Ulrik and Desnold will travel to the Villa, to see what we can find there.
Looking at everyone, If you're happy with my decision, all we need to do is find Sumak, hear him out and then be on our way. We can regroup back here once we're done, sharing what information we will have hopefully found by then.
Vironus goes back to eating his Porridge whilst waiting to hear everyone's thoughts.
Rogar the Beardless |
Rogar smiles at River's words. "My thanks, friend. Whatever you're having for breakfast will be fine. While I'd love to hold Ariri, I'm worried that I might hurt him by accident; I'm not a particularly gentle soul. If he's willing though, I wouldn't mind petting him a little."
Upon hearing Vironus' plan, Rogar keeps his thoughts to himself but looks to his companions for their reactions. He's quite impulsive, isn't he. That's fine for a young'un, but a man his age should know better. Wouldn't be surprised if it gets him into trouble someday. I just hope River and Ariri don't get stuck when he does....
Party splitting now? I'm wondering how many of the cardinal rules of RPGing we'll break before the end of the day. :-)
River Calah |
I smile at Rogar, "He will be fine. Just keep your legs together and he will curl up and sleep." With that I do a little tut tut noise and place Arirai on Rogar's lap, where he does a little circle, sniffs his hand and gives it a little lick, before curling up in a ball and falling asleep.
I look to Vironus again, "Correction, he is extremely bossy!" I look a little concerned about his plan, "What happens if you all meet up with some complications? Would it not be safer and smarter to all go together, that way if anything does happen, he will be prepared?"
"What am I saying, I don't want to be with him for too long, but I can't let Desnold or Ulrik fall into harms way. Even the chef doesn't deserve a fools death, just because someone impatient wants to take charge."
Party splitting, I know a terrible idea and one I always try to avoid. But I suppose with a big group it is a little safer. However it also means more work for the GM, which is something I am not wanting to cause.
Vironus Antilles |
Ha. Well it just allows us to cover ground quicker and seeing as River's made it clear she isn't comfortable around Vi, Vi's intent on searching the Villa and Marcus wants to search town, it just seemed to be a good idea having a team of the usual group of 4 adventuring out, while a smaller group of 3 search in the safer area. A party of 7 is a little overkill anyway, when I've only ever played in groups of 4 and done ok, so I'm sure we'll stand a good chance, develop new relations between characters and form stronger bonds this way. :)
There are enough of us, so I see no issue with splitting up to search two locations in the same time it would take to search one. The town is the safest place to search, so with Marcus leading, I have no doubt you'll be fine here.
Sighing, due to having to elaborate further, Vironus continues I have survived in the harsh Gladiatorial arenas for 13 years. My tactics have kept me alive through every battle so far, and should he agree to it, with Ulrik by my side, there is no reason why we too can't accomplish this task.
Looking to River River, it's clear you're uncomfortable around me, but I haven't once been violent in front of you. When the bar brawl broke out in Sandpoint, I didn't raise my hand to anyone, nor did I move from where I was sitting. I merely stated that I am up for adventure, but I wouldn't stand for betrayal. I have my honour to protect, and the fact people were so offended by what I said, I found it entertaining that those around me broke into fight amongst themselves, whilst I was allowed to sit with my ale.
What actually caused the fight was the misinterpretation and misunderstandings of my intentions by those around me. I didn't think ill of anyone, and when I met Urtar on the snowy plains, I ran ahead to draw attention away from the rest of you, as I lack fear and felt it best to confront the man alone, with my hands readied on my weapons in case of any trouble, giving you all the time you would have needed to either flee or aid me, without endangering yourselves. That was my choice and I stuck by it, yet I still breathe the very air you do, as we speak.
Looking concerned, Have I wronged you in any way? Any of you for that matter?
It seems those around me cannot push personal differences aside, to work towards a greater cause here.
