Sorry to drop OOC.
Given what Mercy's said before, I think we have to be very careful about not taking missions we're not powerful enough for.
This theatre sounds like one such. It's described like a Roach Motel for adventurers. If we're going to try to take it, we're gong to need a LOT of help.
Perhaps we should hit up a team who might want a bit of assistance so we can learn the ropes?
Luca Wistor, the Void Caller |
At bare minimum, Luca can scout from a distance, maybe send Vilstraks out to engage in melee with skeletons (from a safe distance) and see how tough the things really are. ^^ We're working hard to earn money, and I'd rather avoid spending it on hiring other people to do stuff if possible. We probably won't advance much if we have to pay out most of what we take in. XD;
Tyrus Regulus Veneficius |
Did we ever buy stuff?
I guess we could get someone to do an Augury.
I was thinking more we might be able to get Oznat's friends to go on a rescue mission with us.
@Mercy: have I got this wrong?
Dante Florence |
Do you have a link with the summoned creatures to know what happens to them? Their earth glide would definitely help see if there is more to this place than what's above ground.
Also, we might not even make it to the theatre. As he said, things get dangerous a little ways in. Work our way up to the theatre.
Luca Wistor, the Void Caller |
1 minute/level, if she's using her SLA to call them.
Incidentally, once we level, I'm planning to retrain my Eidolon into a much better scout. ^^
Tyrus Regulus Veneficius |
That adventure hooks are not levelled to the PCs, and one of the things we need to do is work out and assess the risk profile we're prepared to accept.

We won't know unless we try. Unfortunately we don't have a lot of versatility. We have three caster classes. Kind of limited on what we can do without expending a lot of resources. I mean, no stealth, limited scouting, no trap finding or disabling, no instant healing.
Dante Florence |
Okay there is that method. But we need to find them first. We'll expend your resources rather quickly that way.
Luca Wistor, the Void Caller |
It'll get easier next level, I swear. XD
(A small, Perception-focused Eidolon ought to be very good at finding traps before they go off, after all. And I might train it to disable them, too.)
Luca Wistor, the Void Caller |
No, I have the archetype for better Summon Monster. XD That's my real focus - only so many uses per day, but pretty useful if timed well.
Tyrus Regulus Veneficius |
Alright.
I reckon Command Undead scribed into Tyrus' spell book and ten flasks of Holy Water.
Any problems with anyone?
Should be 115 silver, I think, if I've got the conversion rates right.
Tyrus Regulus Veneficius |
Tyrus has memorised Disrupt Undead while in Kel;dradt
Spells (with permission)
0: Disrupt Undead, Mending, Acid Splash, Light
1: Mage Armour, Mage Armour, Chill Touch, Snapdragon Fireworks[t], BLANK
2: Cat's Grace, False Life, False Life
Dante Florence |
I would like 1 brazier, should be able to get back before night, 5 holy water for me, and to scribe magic missile. How much are spells again?
I suggest we all get one of the maces too, just in case. Do they have a slashing weapon too? Those undead DR's are going to be very important to overcome since I don't do much damage.
Tyrus Regulus Veneficius |
Dante: May I suggest Disrupt Undead? Ranged d6 damage that ignores DR on undead is not terrible.
Tyrus' ability with a mace is terrible enough there is not much point in getting one.
GM Mercy |
Tracking down a wizard who'll let you scribe spells from them is harder in a smaller place. Rolling a wisdom check to see if Dante though to do this before leaving Gemny (though to ask Naswel, that is):
Wisdom DC 11: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Nope. :(
In Keldradt, we'll say that you could find a wizard who would allow you to copy that spell (it is rather basic) for fifty silver.
And no, the ghost-beaters are the only "anti-undead" weapons you see. I'll address a search for an everburning torch in Gameplay.
Dante Florence |
I have all 0-level spells known as a magus. I can prepare it tomorrow.
Tyrus Regulus Veneficius |
I'm figuring when Tyrus prepared for this morning he would have switched over.
@Mercy: would you be okay with Tyrus advising Dante?
Do sunrods exist?
if so Tyrus could knock one up. It would take at least a day though.
book cost = 20gp =200 sp for crafting. Tyrus gets +13, +2 with an assistant, double speed for Torble. DC is 25. If Tyrus rolls a 28 total he'd make it, and knock one out in a day.
Would take a day though.
Also, either caster could pick up Light as a cantrip for tomorrow.
@Mercy: How much does a simple metal mirror cost?
GM Mercy |
re: Advising - Certainly. Elder wizard coaching a younger magic user? Obviously would happen.
Sunrods do exist, but take a substantially larger amount of time to prepare than in typical Pathfinder rules. Instead of one day, they require three.
Hmm, mirror, good question. Probably not anything crazy. 5 silver, I think.
Tyrus Regulus Veneficius |
I echo Dante on the creativity :)
Ah, if it makes a difference I messed up the cost.
Should be 2gp book
so = 20sp. Any alchemist who can make one reliably could probably knock out 3/day.
Is the cost increased? Understand if you want to limit lighting items. If the system is reworked, I feel I should point out Tyrus is an amazing alchemist. Actually, given the spread of levels in the world, I'm curious how good Tyrus thinks he is.
Was thinking we could use mirrors to redirect sunlight into the ruins. This would only give us a little way in (depends also on how much sunlight gets in there now).
It'd give light AND screw over any shadows/vampires in the ruins.
Would mean we'd need to keep adjusting them, though.
Clarification: I'm talking about the big old mirrors of about a square meter they used to have, not little hand mirrors. Like the one they used in the Fifth Element.
Also we should get rope.
Dante Florence |
Why don't you post in gameplay with some of these ideas and see what happens?I am sure the DM will make the encounter just as interesting. Also, how much for Magic Missile? Are most things just gold price divided by 10?
Luca Wistor, the Void Caller |
*Tosses popcorn into mouth*
One of the nice parts of being a Spontaneous Caster is that I don't have to worry about finding new spells here. XD I'm ready to go anytime, so just let me know whenever you two are.
GM Mercy |
I limit ALL items. :)
Not sure exactly what tactic to take on balancing things like sunrods though. I'd like them to have a more specific niche than "all-around torch replacement", which basically means making them expensive enough that uses torches becomes more efficient except for times when a sunrod is specifically necessary (say, in areas where flame is very risky). It's inelegant, but whatever.
Let's say sunrods cost 20 silver, yes (actually fairly expensive in the scheme of things, that's twenty days of room and board). Crafting time will be longer, though. Something something has to soak in alchemical oils for a time. So three-day crafting time stands.
Also, remember that the city is not one ruin - it s a ruined city. Many buildings, and while it is often mist-shrouded that doesn't mean the sun never shines.
Magic Missile = 50 silver.
Tyrus Regulus Veneficius |
Absolutely. A lot of medieval cities built up rather than out, of course, but I'm hopeful we wouldn't need to be far from one of these mirrors at any given time. With windows and building collapses I was hoping that'd help.
Given we don't have three days, might hold off on sunrod and just memorise Light.
I still think the mirrors are worthwhile. At the cost you've mentioned, Mercy, I'd pick up 4 mirrors (20 silver) but I think those might have been hand mirrors, and I'm looking for much larger mirrors than that.
I am a little worried about the state of our finances - not sure how much we have.
Dante Florence |
I am probably terribly off but it looks like I had 57gp going into this part of the adventure but that sounds wrong now. I do not know how much I should have.
GM Mercy |
Elven cities tend towards sprawl (even ancient ones), with lots of parks and even outright wilderness in between different "burroughs." Their buildings tend to favor large open spaces within, giving an airy feel.
Yes, I was thinking of hand mirrors, and quite small ones at that (about the size of your palm). Large mirrored surfaces would be fairly expensive and rare - you won't find them in Keldradt, nor is there the kind of industry that could create one.
Dante: Assuming you didn't actually get the math wrong, probably just drop that sum to silver pieces to make it correct.
Dante Florence |
Can I do that after buying the above? Otherwise non of us can afford a brazier.
Tyrus Regulus Veneficius |
Remember we got some money for something previously - and we sold a lot of things to Naswel. As I recall we had about three gold.
Thus my point that we're doing prospecting - earning enough money to go out and do looting here. If we strike it rich, we'll be rich... until then we're going to be struggling a bit.
Tyrus Regulus Veneficius |
@Mercy: Happy with no mirrors, but do you mean no modern, or none at all. I know they used to do polished metal mirrors pre-silvered glass. I'm looking for reflective surfaces for bouncing light, rather than true 'mirrors'.
GM Mercy |
Forgot to address your question, Dante, apologies. The brazier is far too expensive to just take as a gimme, I'm afraid. Furthermore, at no point did your character actually have 57 gold pieces.
I'll be cool with you having bought the spell magic missile and the amulet, but you'd basically be broke (and that's still essentially giving you a discount).
Yes, money is tight. That's a feature, not a bug. Characters who want to be able to buy anything and everything would need to make acquisition of wealth a top priority (as you guys seem to be doing). Even then, it takes awhile to get rich, even with luck!
GM Mercy |
Did you guys ever figure out the money situation?
Stuff i know you bought:
Holy Water x ??
Ghost-beaters x 2
Magical Amulet (I assume now worn by Dante)
Also, remember that you were in fact paid 5 gold pieces by Naswel for the spell you sold him. I did not think you had spent enough of that to be unable to buy one of those magical braziers - but I'll also remind you that it is up to YOU guys to keep track of money. If I discover shenanigans, I crack down.
(and that's why I try to run equipment-light campaigns. Too much damn paperwork!)
Dante Florence |
You said I could get the amulet, spell and holy water then magic the gold into silver since I probably didn't have the much...I think. Which leaves me with 54sp, no beater and no brazier. But I don't remember what happened to the 5gp if anything. That means there is essentially 500sp floating around. How about we spend 3gp for the brazier and split the rest? 2gp=200sp=66sp per person and some change. Will that work?
Dante Florence |
magic missle = 50
amulet = 30
5 holy water = 7.5
total = 87.5
my gold = 57
group loot after brazier = 66
total = 123
difference = 35.5 or 35sp and 50cp
This good then?
Tyrus Regulus Veneficius |
I think I'm going to try to knock up an inventory sheet.
We seem to be getting confused about this stuff a lot.
I've got illness & family up at the moment, which is slowing me down.
Will try to get to it tonight.
Tyrus Regulus Veneficius |
Thank you
okay, about halfway there, but I have to go to bed.
