The group has acquired significant funds, but now must deal with an ailing wizard. They set out to follow a clue delivered by a cryptic stranger in a dead city, in the hopes it will lead to a cure.
Yes, either today or tomorrow we will be jumping forward to the next big part. It depends on whether or not I have the time to finish the maps tonight.
Are we actually going to spend three years as slaves? Logan would prefer to try his hand as a pirate/sailor rather than three years as a slave... See me post! Rar!!! :)
New maps are up, and a post will follow shortly. Please let me know if you have trouble linking to the maps. They aren't of the quality I'd like, but they should be clear enough for the purpose. Cartographic skills still under development, as it were.
Let's see... for these questions, I could go either way.
On the "Get a Ransom" side (which is probably safer for a young girl surrounded by brutish pirates...), I could have the Void make an allusion to events in the past... like, "if you don't want us to come back and do what we did on whatever date, pay the money for Luca and be quick about it". XD
On the "No ransom" side (almost certainly more dangerous for her...), Luca could unwillingly admit that her family hates her and doesn't want to pay a single copper to help out, really.
I've actually spent a decent amount of time on the Cartographers Guild site (which I highly recommend if you haven't seen it before) trying to improve my mapmaking. I'm not much of an artist for most subjects, but I think I can become a decent map maker.
Busy today, so only going to be one post this evening.
Apologies to all for no Monday post. Had a bit of a hectic day, and only got home as of 2:30 AM. Way too tired to get the post together, so I'll do it tomorrow afternoon.
On the bright side, I think failing a Diplomacy check by 5 or more only results in a drop of one step in attitude... or I'd be playing the "helpless little girl" card for all it's worth. XD Maybe he was just, um, really distracted by something?
Perhaps the ladies are all naked... :D
Who knows... can we please get a rough description of those of the crew with us, and those that were already at the camp.
Age or at least age group, gender, healthy or not, just peasant garb or something special to their clothes, etc.
I've put the info you requested in the latest post. If you still have questions about things your character would already have seen or noticed, you can also ask them here in discussion (with any appropriate rolls if you feel it necessary, or if I ask for them).
Sorry about the missed day(s) folks! I'm getting crushed in meatspace right now. I can't guarantee to post tonight, but fear not - things should return to normal soon.
(Wolf, hoping you see this cuz obviously the same applies to your campaign. Double sorry!)
Oh dear yes, this was an exception. These last couple weeks caught me by surprise. Fear not, my little guinea pigs... I'll be abusing your characters at a steady pace more often than not! (and hopefully be able to provide more advance warning on future delays).
Personally, I recommend that we raid the goblins sometime soon. XD They might be good experience to help us prepare for future challenges - and I plan to convert Fluffy into a small skill-monkey when we level up, so it can act as a scout for the group.
I think our main focus is the door and the tunnel. And the goblins might not be as bad as we think. Ever since reading Goblins, the online comic, I have had a soft spot for them. Really wish Diplomacy was a Summoner skill. Thankfully it does require a high Cha. Plus, I figure we are going to be leveled at DM discretion not experience.
Nope! Actually you are leveled by experience. I'm keeping track of XP individually for all of you. Different than most GM's do it, but I'm hoping it makes for a more rewarding game.
XP is earned in a variety of ways in addition to combat. Investigating alternate paths than the obvious is one, interacting with NPC's in meaningful ways, completing missions/quests (naturally), etc etc etc. The more fully you "live" within the world your characters inhabit, the more likely you are to gain XP. However, all such gains are "silent" - you'll never know your own total, though occasionally I might tell you when you've earned a bonus of some kind (for instance, Logan earned bonus XP for dueling Norren, and Dante a smaller reward for also volunteering).
EDIT: A question for everyone. Logan's hilariously bad diplomacy check got me thinking again about how simple d20 rolls have no normal curve - every outcome is equally a likely. I've always wanted to try a system where instead of rolling a d20, for every check that requires it we roll 2d10 instead. Thoughts? Would people like to try that? Critical failures (double 1's) and successes (double 6's) would be more rare (and I would probably apply more significance to them as a result), but it makes bonuses a bit more significant due to the expected values.
I don't know why but the more dice involved the worse my rolls seem to get. I rolled stats for one game. 4d6's, drop the lowest and I still ended up with a 5. Thankfully if we didn't hit a min point buy we got to redo. So I am for keeping 1d20 rather than 2d10 but if this is a group vote I will go with the majority.
Roger. If the other two don't strongly want to give it a try we won't bother. For some reason it has always bugged me about rolling one die versus multiple.

Tyrus wants to see what the captain wants before he makes any plans!
As regards the 2d10... I'm ambivalent. I like the stability of a 2 dice system, but at the same time I think the story is well driven by the uncertainty of the high spread.
Remember 1s and 20s are not critical skill rolls in the rules.
As we level up and skill modifiers increase the impact of the spread is decreased; if Tyrus has a +23 skill, a +19 difference from the roll is comparatively smaller than if he has +0.
I will be on vacation from the 2nd to the 10th of August, and don't know what kind of internet I will have available. Just letting you know now and if needed DMPC me please!
According to a normal chart Misha would likely be hostile to Logan now. Moving on to Lara! XD
Fortunately for Logan's long-term health, the RAW for Diplomacy is too simplistic for my tastes. You're not going to turn somebody hostile by making relatively innocuous statements like you were, no matter how constantly terrible your diplomacy is.
Right now, Misha thinks Logan is a bit... "special."
Actually, you guys seem to be in a conversation that includes most of the party. Do we need another post right away? Let me know if so and I'll do one tomorrow morning, but I don't want to hurry any RP that's going on.
Thinking Logan ended up not having much of a connection on his cruise (the same thing happened to me earlier this year). We'll DMPC him when necessary.
Speaking of I will be on vacation the rest of the week. Should have a decent connection but my days will be long and tiring. Best I can hope for is once a day.
items they likely would be looking for:
Weapons - clubs, torches or lanturn with oil, food, rope, grease to quiet the door when it opens, backpack, sack, basket, bucket, chain, crowbar, Flint and steel, hammer, sledge, shovel, ladder, clay jug, waterskin, water, pole, etc.
No internet connection that was free, then when in the ports not much time really to make any posts. Cruise to Alaska!
What I meant by 'day to day'. Basically if we were going to stick around at the camp for an extended time, to write out what we would normally do in the 4 hours before bed. Don't worry about this for it seems we might not be here much longer. ;)
Clubs and torches are easy enough for you to acquire - there is plenty of driftwood and branches, and some of it can be fashioned into clubs enough to equip you all. The rest you'll have to search for, though I wouldn't hold out too much hope for finding much of it...
Yeah, when I went on a cruise the internet was usable with a fee, but pretty damned slow. Wasn't really worth the price.
