Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Jack and Canacha finishes of the skum on the pier while Mirabella tries and fails to prevent the last one form escaping the combat area.
Will: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Combat round 3.
Canacha, Logan, Jack, Mirabella, Bicks
Skum yellow,
Logan Tanessen |
Logan in his boggard form took a running jump and swum after the skum as fast as he could! He has 20' movement on land and 30' on water. There's only one square of land to cross so it probably doesn't matter. I think I've put him a double move away.

There is no land you are still completely underwater.
Jack Duncloak |
Yeah, that's what I thought. Jack's just walking along the bottom (speed halved from 20 ft. to 10 ft.), so he's useless in a chase.
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Bick will cast blindness on the creature (DC 17 Fort) (if he can). That may slow its movement.
Bicks can't see the skum inside the narrow cavern it has swum into.
Logan Tanessen |
Ah I thought we where fighting above water to begin with for some reason. Doesn't really change my actions though!
Canacha Bais |
"Angry Feist Manta ray noise. Then more angry manta ray noise"
Double move to get ahead of the skum, If she could avoid an AoO she will, if not she will take it, She has a swim speed of 60 feet, so 120 with the double move s hould be able to cut him off.
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Canacha swims past the skum ending up in a cave with phosphorescent lichens growing on the walls which illuminate it portions have been scraped away so that someone can carve messages into the stone walls.
Only to late does she notice there is another skum in the cave, this one looking like it could be more trouble than the normal skums. This one seems to be a spellcaster and casts a spell of glittering dust at Canacha Glitter Dust DC 17 will save
Combat round 4.
Canacha, Logan, Jack, Mirabella, Bicks
Skum yellow, Skum wizard?
Logan Tanessen |
I'm not clear if charge is possible here. If not he'll enhance his blade as a swift action and double move to flank.
Hearing a fight, Logan willed a fraction of his power into his blade which stared to glow softly. Then he kicked his legs powerfully and he shot forwards through the water! Up ahead Canacha was in danger, Logan was ready to help her fight the Skum.
Jetting through the water gave him a moment of surprise and he took full advantage of his momentum, ramming his blade into the Skum in front of him!
Charge, flank, +1 enh!: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 30Damage: 1d6 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 1 = 11Non lethal Cold Damage (frostbite): 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Crit?: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 15Crit Damage: 1d6 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 1 = 12Non lethal Cold Damage (frostbite): 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Either way 4/6 arcane pool used.
Canacha Bais |
will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Somehow she managed to just spin as the spell exploded with glitter everywhere somehow shielding her eyes. At the sight of her shimmer she growled in her chest spinning about torwards the caster.
"Manta ray noises that sound very mean and dark"
She charged the spellcaster and tried to stab it with her tail....
tail stab: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 2 = 10
Jack Duncloak |
I moved Jack 20 feet on the map. Not sure if he took an action last round or not (he'd have moved another 20 feet.)
Mirabella Lindenbrook |
Mirabella moves swiftly through the murky water up the narrow corridor, ready to provide support where she can.
Double move.
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
I think the cavern is to uneven for a direct path to charge, but I'll let your attack work on the next round.
Fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 That's one blind Skum.
50% miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 7
hit?: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Up close Canacha gets a good look at the spellcaster and there seems to be six copies of him in the same spot. What's more she I sure she was missing him but somehow hit even if the hit felt like it wasn't where the images are.
"Ackt urogh gap" the spell caster mumbles as he reaches out to touch Canacha with a new spell. Canacha feels he mental faculties slow down and she feel less clever than useal.
Touch attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
1d6 ⇒ 4 Penalty to Int, Wis and Cha for 1 hour.
Combat round 5.
Canacha, Logan, Jack, Mirabella, Bicks
Skum yellow, Skum wizard? (DMG: 10)
Jack Duncloak |
Jack slowly plods his way toward the fight.
Double move.
Logan Tanessen |
Fair enough GM, so Logan will swim and attack this round using the roll from his previous post. Presumably with 2 less to hit and no AC penalty.
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Logan quickly dispatches the skum blocking the way into the cavern with a solid hit to it's vitals.
Combat round 5.
Canacha, Logan, Jack, Mirabella, Bicks
Skum wizard? (DMG: 10)
Mirabella Lindenbrook |
Mirabella double-moves to threaten the spellcaster and provide flanking opportunities for her allies.
Canacha Bais |
The creature touched her and suddenly she felt ... much less herself. She was going to.... toooo.... She couldnt remember. Whatever this thing in front of her was, its touch was bad, she tried stabbing it with her tail again.
tail stab: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Mirabella Lindenbrook |
GM, note that Mirabella is currently wielding a reach weapon, so the spellcasters options to just 5-ft step and cast without risking an AoO are limited.
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Up close Mirabella can't seem to get a focus on the spellcaster since he appeares to be in multiply places at once and they also looks slightly off. Mirror image and some kind of concealment.
He pulls out a small bottle with a thick black liquid inside and casts a spell consuming the component. "Lhag Ugap Yrtho!" he speaks as the power of the words seems to attempt to slow those of you within it's sight down.
Slow spell cast on Logan, Canacha and Mirabella. DC17 will save.
Combat round 6.
Canacha, Logan, Jack, Mirabella, Bicks
Skum wizard? (DMG: 10)
Logan Tanessen |
Will DC 17: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Logan felt the energy drain from his veins and he shouted, "Nooo curse you SCUM WIZARD!"
Feeling lethargic he swam towards the enemy spellcaster but didn't quite have the energy to try and run him through.
Jack Duncloak |
Jack trudges forward in slow motion.
No running allowed underwater (and just when Jack had a straight stretch before him).
Mirabella Lindenbrook |
Will save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Even as Mirabella succumbs to the slowing effects of the spell, she ends her bardic performance with a flourish to grant Logan another chance at resisting the spell.
Saving Finale - Inspire courage performance ends, but effects linger for to rounds. Logan get's a reroll on his Will save.
Logan Tanessen |
Logan felt Mirabella's magic wash over him and for a moment the bounds of the Skum's spell loosened but as he tried to free himself they came back with a vengeance.
Will save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Was worth a shot, thanks Mirabella.
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Satisfied that his spell worked, the spell caster turns his gaze on Mirabella whom seems to also be a magic user at targets her with a spell. "Alk Ugotha trakh!"
Caster: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Mirabella one active level 1 spell on you ends. The dices doesn't seem to favor any of us this combat.
Combat round 7.
Canacha, Logan, Jack, Mirabella, Bicks
Skum wizard? (DMG: 10)
Jack Duncloak |
Jack keeps trudging along the bottom, slowly closing on the battle.
Double move (again).
Logan Tanessen |
Normally a rapier was a lightning quick weapon, just the way Logan liked it. The bounds of the scum wizard's spell however made Logan feel like he was swimming in jelly, so forgoing a more powerful strike he opted for accuracy. "Ha! Have that!" he cried as he thrust his ice encrusted weapon towards its torso!
Rapier, +2 enh, slow: 1d20 + 8 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 2 - 1 = 18Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 2 = 6Non-lethal cold damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
If that hits I think there's 2 charges of frostbite left. Note I forgot at lvl 6 he has +2 enh bonus from his arcane pool ability.
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Hit?: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Logan's attack destroys one of the skum's images, while Bicks' spell hits it square and blinds it.
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21
The skum uses it's natural affinity for underwater to locate Logan and attempts to attack him with his natural attacks. Attempt being the right word as the bite comes close to Logan, but misses him completely.
Attack Bite: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
% Bite: 1d100 ⇒ 46 51-100 hit
Combat round 8.
Canacha, Logan, Jack, Mirabella, Bicks
Skum wizard (DMG: 21)
Logan Tanessen |
Logan would have preferred to have struck the Skum Wizard but he took grim satisfaction in shattering an image. "Not many of those left now eh?" he said taunting the Skum wizard as he lunged with as much speed as his slowed state would allow!
Rapier, +2 enh, slow: 1d20 + 8 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 8 + 2 - 1 = 20Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 2 = 8Non-lethal cold damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Jack Duncloak |
Jack keeps soldiering forward, belatedly realizing that not being able to swim means he'll always be late in arriving when the fight doesn't conveniently come to him.
Double move.
Logan Tanessen |
This encounter is harsh for sure if you can't swim fast.
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Hit?: 1d5 ⇒ 3
Sadly Logan only sees another image pop as he attempts to stab the blind wizard.
Combat round 8.
Canacha, Logan, Jack, Mirabella, Bicks
Skum wizard (DMG: 21)
Mirabella Lindenbrook |
While the final notes of her disrupted bardic song still linger, Mirabella floats backwards (5-ft step) and jabs at the wizard with her longspear, mostly hoping to reduce the number of mirror images.
Attack - longspear w/IC: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Reminder - Inspire courage lingers until Mirabella's next turn.
Logan Tanessen |
Logan rolled his eyes when his rapier pierced another image instead of the Skum's belly. "You can't hide forever!" he muttered.
Canacha Bais |
Canacha the manta ray made angry manta ray noises along with Logan and stabbed at what she thought was the correct skum mage with her tail.
tail stab: 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (12) + 3 - 1 = 14
damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
The skum having ran out of spells to use on you starts to fight with fang and claw but little does it help being blinded also. With his protective spells gone and the images shattering, you collectively gets him down and win the fight.
Logan Tanessen |
With a foot on the corpse, Logan wrenched his rapier out of the skum's body with a triumphant, "Ha told you!"
Looking round he took stock of the situation and asked, "Was that the last one?"
GM did the skum have any gear?
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Looting the skum you find 5 tridents and 5 leather armors, nothing special about that. The spellcaster has a wand, amulet, headband, a rod, carving tools, pump valve ring, and a spellbook (a series of engraved clam shells).
3rd—dispel magic, displacement, hold person, slow, force punch
2nd—acid arrow, glitterdust, hideous laughter, mirror image, touch of idiocy, invisibility bubble,
1st—alarm, charm person, mage armor, reduce person, shield, chill touch, hydraulic push
Logan Tanessen |
Noting the items, Logan remarked, "So we think that is pump valve ring, I wonder if we can find where that goes and perhaps drain this level..."
He inspected the items to see if any were enchanted, humming a strange tune that made him able to discern magic. Casting detect magic.
Spellcraft: Wand: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24
Spellcraft: Amulet: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24
Spellcraft: Headband: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Spellcraft: Rod: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
After examining the item he suggested, "Lets explore the area to the west if we can..."
If everyone agrees he'll swim that way and cautiously explore.
Perception if needed when exploring: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (9) + 0 = 9
