Logan identifies the items as a wand of lightning bolt (12 charges), amulet of natural armor +1, headband of vast intelligence +2 and a lesser extend metamgic wand.

Canacha Bais |

'A pump valve? Thats engineering and my thing.'
knowledge engineering: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Manta ray or no, this was what she was here for. Well sort of, She first thought of where the pump valve should be located, Then ran her mind over whether they had seen one already and she merely was focused on other things and finally... Moved forward to the unexplored regions to search for one.
perception for finding pumps: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30

Logan Tanessen |

"Would be nice to be dry..." agreed Logan before making some suggestions about the items they found, "I already have an amulet like this one, perhaps Canacha or Mirabella could use it?" Since they have the lowest ACs.
Pointing to the headband he remarked, "This could be useful for me, I don't think its something any of you would want?"
@Jesper is the headband attuned to any particular skill?
Finally pointing to the rod, he noted, "This rod could be useful for several of us. I'm not sure who would get the most out of it, Bicks maybe? What do you think?"

Mirabella Lindenbrook |

"I also have a few spells which would be enhanced by this rod. Alter self, charm person and hideous laughter, in particular, but in most cases it will make no practical difference. The amulet should go to Canacha, I think. I tend to avoid putting myself directly in harms way. "
Mirabella looks around the cave, searching for other exits.
"Let's go look for the valve. There was another branch of tunnel running parallel to this one, we can begin our search there."

Jack Duncloak |

Jack starts chugging back in the opposite direction, knowing the others will soon be passing him by.
Nice to see some treasure that Jack has little-to-no interest in. I've guilt-tripped in the past about what a treasure magnet he's been.

![]() |

@Logan, it's not attuned to anything in the notes so pick a skill for it.
Canacha is pretty sure the ring is for some kind of pump, she can however not see anything in this cavern where it would be useful.

Logan Tanessen |

Perception is always useful, lets go with that.
Logan put the headband on and marvelled at how sharp his vision had suddenly become, it was as if he was viewing the world with new eyes.
Nodding to Mirabella he swims back to the big cave and peers down the western branch of the stream?
The map has a dotted line here, not sure if he can go past. If he can he will carry on until something of note is found.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

![]() |

The dotted line is more to show the remains of a gate closing the tunnels off, most liukely from creatures swimming in from the rivers just outside.
Logan swims into the tunnel and investigates a branche off where he sees. The eastern wall of this low-ceilinged cave is riddled with one-foot-diameter holes, most of which are adorned with a circular ring of silvery metal etched with tiny runes.

Logan Tanessen |

Concerned by the runes, Logan warns the others "Stay back until we can determine what these runes are!"
He then starts a chant to attune himself to any magics that might be present.
Casting detect magic.
Kn: Arcana: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19

Logan Tanessen |

Shaking his head, Logan complains, "It's no good, I don't recognise the magic, some sort of minor transmutation enchantment..."

Mirabella Lindenbrook |

Mirabella follows Logan and urges the rest of the group to do the same.
"This mechanism could well be part of the pump system. Perhaps we need someone with more engineering knowledge. In any event, we should make sure the rest of these corridors are secure while our water breathing spells last, before we begin tinkering."
Bardic know-it-all attempt
Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Knowledge (Engineering): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28 Wohoo - looks like the last-minute cramming session on underwater pump systems paid off!

Jack Duncloak |

Jack chugs along behind Logan and Mirabella. "I never was much good with mechanical things," he admits. "Do we want to try to get the pump operational first or explore what's left of the tunnels? Draining the water first might kill any water-breathing threats still down here...."

Logan Tanessen |

Logan nodded, "If we could drain this are it would make thing so much easier and I wouldn't have to look quite so ridiculous!"
Guess we're waiting to see if Mirabella was successful with her skill check.

![]() |

Mirabella thinks it might be part of the pump, but it's not the controlpoint of the system more like this area is where the pump uses air to push the water out of the caverns. To her best guess you have to get to the other side of that wall to find the pump itself.
Sorry it's been a few rough weeks getting back into a full reopening and getting used to the normal virus' in the air we have been isolated from last 1½ year.

Mirabella Lindenbrook |

Mirabella relays her theory to the group.
”Lets try and see if we can find an entrance to the other side. We can head north and see if we can circle round or go back to the entry hall through the flooded docks. I think there was a passage in the west wall of that room.”

Logan Tanessen |

I had several colds after the rules here started getting relaxed, and it feels so strange with people not wearing masks anymore.
Logan in boglin form nods, saying "Yes, lets do that before our spells run out." The thought of being stuck down here, having to swim the normal way like poor Jack didn't bear thinking about.
Hand on the hilt of his sword, Logan swam north and cautiously looked around.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Jack Duncloak |

Jack nods, more than happy to follow Mirabella's directions...albeit very slowly. He plods northward, giving Canachamanta a quick smile.

![]() |

Logan can see a large creature in the next cavern, it looks like a crustacean of some kind.

Logan Tanessen |

Backing off a bit, Logan swims back and warns the others in a low whisper, "There's some sort of oversized crustacean ahead. Anyone know how dangerous this thing is?"
I assume this needs Kn: Nature which Logan doesn't have.

Mirabella Lindenbrook |

Mirabella quietly glides up next to Logan to peer at the aquatic creature.
Bardic know-it-all, at your service. Using Loremaster ability to take 10 on Knowledge (nature) for 18.

![]() |

Mirabella gets a closer look and determines it's actually not a aquatic creature, but rather a large Ooze known as a Globster, covered in the boby parts of dead sealife.
She tells the others that this is a dangerous creature to fight underwater as piercing weapons wont have any effect against it along with acid and bludgeoning attacks.

Mirabella Lindenbrook |

”On second thought…let’s hold off on going north and see if we can find another way in.”
Round to the passage in the south-west corner of the entry hall.

Logan Tanessen |

The ooze sounded horrific so Logan readily agreed, "Yeah no thanks!" and swam to investigate the south west branch of the cave/waterway.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Logan Tanessen |

The western branch of the cave I think.

Mirabella Lindenbrook |

The western branch of the cave I think.
If we are looking for the pumps, we should check the breach in the south west corner of the first room we entered. East of our current location. I’ll move Miras token once I’m not on my phone

Canacha Bais |

"Manta ray..... manta... manta manta manta ray. ray ray ray manta ray."
She said a weird giggling like noise escaping her mouth with little bubbles as she swirl/swam about Jack for a moment. On a whim she gave him a little manta kiss in his forehead before following the others.

Jack Duncloak |

Jack smiles, shakes his head lightly, and follows along slowly but surely.

Mirabella Lindenbrook |

I've moved Mirabella on the gameplay map to where I think we should explore next, but I'm open to suggestions if we want to check out the western branch instead.

![]() |

Based on the map.
The floor of this large, flooded chamber drops away into a bowl-like pit, while the ceiling is thickly covered with strings of algae. Sediment and grit swirl lazily in the water, caught up in eddies and currents that grow slightly stronger near the two tunnels to the west. The chamber is to large to see it all through your light sources, but you get a feeling something large is swimming in the cavern.
You look into a 30 feet long hallway, which at it's end has a broken down door leading into what can only be descibed as a torture chamber. The low, seven-foot-high ceiling in this completely flooded torture chamber gives it a claustrophobic feel. Two whipping posts are positioned to north and south, while narrow, rusty cages sit against the walls. A partially collapsed rack slumps in the center of the room, while a low stone well sits in an alcove to the west.

Mirabella Lindenbrook |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I definitely think splitting the party is a bad idea. We should pick one area to explore together.
Mirabella waits for the entire group to catch up before moving forward. If Canacha and Logan don't appear in the next couple of minutes, she goes looking for them with Jack and Bicks.

Logan Tanessen |

Miri you did kind of decide to go elsewhere after I'd posted :P But yes I agree it's a bad idea :)
Logan noticed suspicious ripples and glanced at what looked like a mantaray and told her in a low whisper, "Erm... I think there's something big lurking in there. Perhaps we should go find the others."
With that he carefully backed away and went looking for the others.

Jack Duncloak |

In case we want to randomly determine where we all go next:
Where to Next? 1 = L & C; 2 = J, M, B!: 1d2 ⇒ 1

Mirabella Lindenbrook |

Yeah, that one is on me, Logan. I just thought you might have misunderstood in which direction we should look for the pump when i posted about the southwest corner and wanted to show it on the map to make sure. One of the drawbacks of the PbP format, I guess. Anyway, lets get everyone back together and pick one way or the other :-)
As the two groups form back up, Mirabella looks slightly embarrased. Oh dear…didn’t mean to get us seperated. Which area should we explore next?”

Logan Tanessen |

Answering Miri, Logan suggested, "Well we haven't explored the area to the east. I think there's an unexplored area just through that gap to the west of you too. Since we're here, perhaps try that first?"

![]() |

The cap is a little narrow, being flooded for so many years have put the natural entrance into a dismaintained path. With a little squeezing for the medium sized people you can fit through.
The west wall of this flooded chamber is almost entirely obscured by an elaborate contraption of stone and metal comprised of intertwined pipes, pumps, gears, and bellows. The metal on the device seems unharmed by its long submersion, other than being caked with algae and silt.

Logan Tanessen |

"Well would you look at that!" remarked Logan who marvelled at the sight, "I think this is what we've been looking for! Shall we try and see if it still works?"

Jack Duncloak |

Jack nods at Logan's words and waits for Canacha (or anyone brighter than him, to be honest) to tell him which levels to flip or valves to turn.

Canacha Bais |

knowledge engineering: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Flitting about the wall of pipes and devices and tubes and bellows with some excitement. She didn't even know where to begin in her excitement.
She made excitible manta ray noises as she examined things... if she discovered where the thing-a-ma-bobber dohickey goes she would flit about it pointing at it with her tail.

![]() |

Canacha looks over the machine and it quickly becomes clear to her that the machine is in disrepair. Not unsalvagable but it hasn't been good for the machine to be underwater for so long. To the best of Canacha's guess it would be a costly affair to get it working again and require the aid of someone with a knack for crafting magical items.
It would most likely cost about 3.000 gp in materials and require Hetamon's aid in the repairs.

Logan Tanessen |

Upon hearing about the machine, Logan said "Remarkable! But expensive... So we probably need to talk to Hetamon, right? So. What next? There's some dangerous creatures in the waters, literally. We could take them out or leave them be... There's also some areas we've yet to explore."
