About Jade. .
Jade's grandmother was a brave Shoanti warrior from the Skoan-Quah/Skull Clan. Sadly, Grandmama was captured by orc raiders from the Kodar mountains: The brutal Gutspear Tribe, led by Drog Ten-Heads, who drags around a chain festooned with the necromantically animated heads of his 10 worst enemies. Grandmama's beauty caused Drog to select her as a breeding partner, as well the many children she provided him with. Jade's mother attempted to appease her father via necromantic shaman aprenticeship, much to the disgust of Grandmama. But both women never forgot that they were seen by the orcs as nothing more than glorified meat, and made sure to instill this cautiousness in Jade.
Jade was seen by the orcs as virtually useless, as the darkvision gene was not passed on to her. Indeed, to this day, she is afraid of the dark. Much to her horror, she was used as a torture-offering to the dark forces the shamans use for their necromancy. Various evil energies were released with each whiplash and obscene tattoo, many of which remain on Jade's scared back to this day. Little did they know that she was listening intently to the incantations, vowing to herself to one day learn enough about magic to use it as a power for good. But first, she would need to escape.
That day came when Grandmama could no longer bear children, and was thrown into the soup pot for the night-feast. Enraged, Jade flew into a frenzy, overturning the pot, boiling several orcs, and slaughtering many more with her bare hands. She found herself chanting spells, such as Light to help the human slaves see, and Flare to blind the orcs. Though she could not save Grandmama, or her mother for that matter, many of the slaves revolted and helped Jade find the surface. Freedom at last!
But her freedom has been anything but joyous. Her Shoanti tribe would not accept her, even when she told them she rejected her orc heritage, including her orc name, and would finally be able to go by her Shoanti name alone. Sadly, she learned that no Shoanti tribe would ever accept a member who's lineage is tainted by orc blood.
Disgusted with orcs and Shoanti alike, Jade refused to go by either of her given names, and was known for a while as "The Nameless One" or "The Liberator of Kodar". It is said that those who knew her given names and dared to speak them quickly had their tongues removed, but that's probably just a tall tale about an already fearsome enough warrior. As to her current name, Jade began calling herself that when she received a gift from a dear friend she met in Kosavar: A beautiful necklace made of Tian jade. This friend was the Tian half-orc monk named Jing-Jing, who taught Jade that half-orcs don't have to pick between their human or orc lineages -- They should be proud to be a race unto their own. Jing-Jing trained Jade to focus her rage, and even attempted to recruit her into the all half-orc female monk order, The Preying Mantises...or to at least join the Pathfinder Society. Through self-discipline, Jade awakened the Forces Beyond, and began to tap into her nascent magical powers. Still, Jade could not calm her rage, and decided to continue on her barbarian path. She cherishes Jing-Jing's jade necklace, as a reminder of the beauty of being green.
Jade's second encounter with the Pathfinders was meeting the tiefling freedom-fighter Cataclysmia Flamekiss, who sadly informed Jade that Jing-Jing had died trying to liberate slaves. Tearfully, Jade agreed to honor Jing-Jing's memory by joining the fight for freedom, and has become a fierce and proud warrior for Liberty's Edge. As she rises through the ranks, she hopes to one day lead a raid on the Gutspear orcs to avenge her family once and for all. In the meantime, she reminds herself to fight for freedom, wearing one of the manacles from her own enslavement as a constant reminder. Soon her crude spell knowledge will be skilled enough that she can start battle-casting. Woe be upon those who arouse Jade's wrath!
