"Get behind me Ray-Ray! Something's different about these, look at all the flame coming off of them!" Yazi calls out as she marches in front of the wizard.

(10,000 posts! Whoo-hoo! You guys and gals are the best!)
The surviving flamed-salamander is looking just as angry as the other had been before Hajar cut him down.
(Anybody else?)
"I knew I should have stayed back with the others. They're probably guzzling that wine right now, and getting their dice out." Broadbeard complained. He concentrated on looking up at the "murder holes" in the ceiling.
Khayal Bin Haleen |
AoO: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (2) + 24 = 261d10 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24 Khayal slices with his blade in a quick reaction. More out of instinct than anything else.
And how apropos that it was our DM who got the 10,000th post yay Pace!
GM_Pace |
Khayal takes advantage of the salamander's confusion and cuts him down with a single attack.
(Bartan's gonna be waiting a long time, then! Weird rolls!)

(Will post Rayhan & Hajar's actions by Sunday.)
GM_Pace |
Seeing nine snapping heads ahead of him, Rayhan, hearing Yazi's warning, nods. "Sorry, young paladin," he told Hajar, "but your plan appears to have been negated by others."
(Rayhan moves behind Yazi.)
Hajar, looking around, settles on the dead form of the blackened Salamander. "We have a need, my dead opponent, for you to provide some distraction for the beast!" the paladin/oracle told the corpse. With a rush, Hajar pushed the Salamander body down the stairs, within reach of the pyrohydra.
Bull Rush, CMB vs. CMD 15: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18
The Salamander was pushed diagonally down the stairs, just within reach of the monster.
"Now that kind of plan I can get behind!" Broadbeard shouted. He hopped down the stairs, ready to aid Khayal or Yazi in pushing the next corpse towards the pryohydra.
(Khayal, Bartan, Nasir, Yazi, Monsters)
(24-hour rule on Nasir.)
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal attempts to send the next course in the salamander buffet toward the many headed monster. CMB: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (7) + 17 = 24 Khayal puts his shoulder into it and gives a big heave.
GM_Pace |
(My apologies for waiting too.)
Khayal got a good roll in, with the stricken Salamander's corpse rolling an additional step down to the monster's grasp.
All nine heads of the pyrohydra dove for the two corpses, pouncing on the bodies. Each head tore at the offerings, ripping off limbs.

Khayal Bin Haleen |
reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Khayal takes the brunt of the boulder as he narrowly fails to get out of the way. He grabs the collapsible plank out of his backpack intending to try to get up into the murder hole the boulder just came out of.
Bartan Harrowborn |
Would I be able to see up the murder hole well enough to target the person/thing that rolled the boulder down it?
Bartan Harrowborn |
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 YES!!
Bartan spies the thing that rolled the boulder down the murder hole, and casts a spell, throwing a card at them. I'll use my Impromptu Sneak Attack to get sneak damage on them as well, if I hit.

Loud cursing in Ignan is heard from above, and a second boulder comes down a murder hole from above! But the boulder rolls in such a way that only Nasir is threatened by the missile.
You take 1d8 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17 rolling rock damage.
The first boulder stopped rolling when it came to a stop against the pyrohydra's hide. One of the heads looked down, then tapped the boulder playfully.
Hajar ran down the stairs, stopping just before the alcove with the door. He motioned for the rest of the adventurers to follow him.
Broadbeard hopped down the stairs, getting to a place where the taller adventurers could pass by behind him. He held his shortspear against the pyrohydra, just in case. (Fighting Defensively)
Bartan's playing card hit wide inside the column of the murder hole in the ceiling.
You see the angry face of a Fire Giant at the other end of the murder hole in the ceiling, his beard, hair, and eyes spouting fire.

Nasir's Reflex save DC 22: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (7) + 16 = 23
Nasir managed to dance with Rain of Blows out of the way of the boulder. It kept going down the stairs, to where the pyrohydra waited.
Bartan's playing card flies into the murder hole - and the adventurers are rewarded with a yell of pain and outrage, in a fire giant's voice!
Hajar stood next to the alcove, and tried the door. It was locked. "Bartan, we need your lockpicks!" he called out.
The pyrohydra continued chewing the pieces of salamander that were fed to it. As the second boulder came to rest slowly against it, one of the heads looked down at the rock.
"I'm not much with locks - we should have brought Coldtooth. He told me he knows his way around a lock." Broadbeard admitted as he moved down the Large stairs. The fire-dwarf kept his back to the wall and his spear-point towards the pyrohydra.
Rayhan, visibly limping, went down the stairs after Broadbeard.

Nasir al' Shahaadi |
Reflex: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (16) + 16 = 32
Nasir looks over to Yazi, "Let's get out of here!"
As soon as the words are out of her mouth, the dancer takes off at incredible speed, rushing past the Hydra like a desert sirocco.
Current speed 55ft; double move 110ft
Khayal Bin Haleen |

Bartan Harrowborn |
Bartan double-moves, finding himself way too close to the hydra, and hoping it doesn't turn and eat him in one bite.
GM_Pace |
Broadbeard gets inbetween Hajar and Nasir, waving his spear at the hydra, just in case. "That thing's almost done with the salamanders." he warned.
Rayhan limped down the stairs, taking refuge in the alcove. "If anyone has healing..." he began.
"I can cast as soon as Bartan unlocks the door. Khayal looks like he could use a spell as well." Hajar assured the older man. The paladin, like the shorter azer, kept his weapon facing the pyrohydra.
(Khayal, Yazi, Monsters, Nasir)
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal moves to keep himself in between the pyrohydra and his companions.
His swords held ready but not aggressively, he does not want to provoke the monster but he does not want to be unprepared.
Nasir al' Shahaadi |
Unsure of what else to do and noticing a few of the hydra's heads beginning to pay attention to them, Nasir re-ignites Shiver, launching into a mesmerizing fire dance

Bartan moves over to the door, happy that Nasir is distracting the beast, and begins trying to unlock it.
Disable: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (1) + 21 = 22 NOOOOO HAHAHAHAHA THAT'S THE WORST THING!!!!
Unfortunately he quickly breaks his tools in the lock, cursing loudly. Next round I'll have to create some papercraft tools and try again. Ugh.
GM_Pace |
Several faces roll their eyes at hearing the lockpicks break.
"I do have mending, lad." Rayhan offered.
"Bartan, now's not the time for your bad luck to resurface." Hajar growled, one eye still on the pyrohydra in front of them. He freed one hand from holding Tempest, so he could cast the spell that would keep the beast from attacking the group.
"I knew we should have brought Coldtooth." Broadbeard sighed.

The hydra finishes the salamander parts, slurping and swallowing. Two of the heads play with the boulders, but the rest start to turn towards the adventurer party, looking hungry.
The heads see Nasir dancing, and all but two watch the dancer. Several are now glassy-eyed (Never saw so many natural-1s.).
But two appear more interested in the paladin, two-handed fighter, and axe-fighter in front of them, and seem ready to strike.

Bartan pulls out a harrow card.

He starts folding and intricately creasing and tearing sections, until he has essentially an origami snake, which he slides gingerly into the lock.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 21 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 21 + 2 = 28 Not great, but at least it wasn't a natural one...
Bartan Harrowborn |
"I've got it!" Bartan exclaims. He steps to the side to let someone else push the door open, in case there's something on the other side that he may not be able to easily handle. No actions left to open the door or anything, so I'll just wait. :)
GM_Pace |
"Time to earn my pay." Broadbeard said. He opened the door, going through and taking a look around.
Once a large bifurcated guardroom with arrow slits to the West and South, these chambers are now largely devoid of furnishings. A broad stair descends to the West, looking out onto the citadel’s entry, and arrow slits and a door open onto the entry where it turns to the East. Dual stairs climb to the floor above from the center of the room.
A roar of fire is heard, and Broadbeard's shout of surprise. Those looking at the doorway see a cone of fire hit the azer ineffectively.
"Oh, you miserable cur. Masters! We got a Hell Hound." the fire dwarf called out.
"Um. I believe a Hell Hound is less deadly than a Pyrohydra. At least, in this case." the older Rayhan said. He cautiously moved to be behind the fire dwarf.

Most of the pyrohydra heads continued to be mesmerized by Nasir's dance, but two of them appeared to be taking more of an interest in the other adventurers. Forked tongues came out, testing the air.
You hear the panting of another canine from the North coming your way.
The Hell Hound lunged forward, trying to bite Broadbeard.

(Hajar holding action on shutting the door.)
