Rayhan Xohbadi |
Yeah Rayhan will aid Nasir in round 1
Bartan Harrowborn |
Bartan will attempt to disrupt whatever casting the ghost seems to be doing.
I'm going to cast Force Anchor, then use Bullseye shot to make sure I can hit.

(Has it been two weeks? I apologize!)
Tempest swung true, and you see the dwarf ghost pause in his writing in the air, a grimace on his face as he felt the blade.
(No sneak on incorporeal, Bartan!)
(SR fell short.)
The dealer's card managed to slice the dwarf's body, but the figure ignored the slight tremor through it.
At the great doors, the azer are not idle. Two run up to the adventurers, throwing their spears.
1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 3 - 1 = 20 One common spear flies right through the ghostly dwarf, unhindered.

The ghost shuddered, and the symbol in the air was winked out of existence. "Arrggh! Of all the insults! Infidels!" Bagoas screamed at the ceiling, his arms wide in a display of helplessness.

Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal sighs, sizing up the fight happening above him. It seems well in hand so he takes the moment to enjoy the artful dance in the air above him. He is a little impressed with Hajar’s mobility in the air unhindered by his leg. Though he has nothing on the dance of Nasir.

(Bot'ing Hajar!)

As Tempest slices through Bagoas, there is a soundless crackle, and the ghost-dwarf appears to flicker. "No, this is not right. I should be king. I should be king here!" the short ghost shouts, and disappears.

Bartan Harrowborn |
"Looks to be the case, my lady. I think we have just vanquished the... how would one say it... the 'big baddie' of this place!"
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal shakes his head, he prefers fighting on the ground and not against ghosts. Perhaps he will need to work on being more prepared for this type of foe.
GM_Pace |
(Bot'ing Rayhan now...)
Rayhan speaks up. "The ghost - a darnoc, I believe - is a being under the impression that he or she owns the land or palace that they reside in. They are not the 'big baddie'." he declared, with a look at the younger Varisian. "Quickly! Darnocs regenerate within moments of their 'defeat'. You cannot truly vanquish them until you convince them of their folly with proof - look for something that shows or tells who is really in charge of this Effreti palace!" he requested.
Looking at the fire-dwarf mercenaries, Rayhan waved them over. "With all due haste! Search this place, and tell us what you find, if it is written in Ignan! You all would recognize an Efreeti prince quicker than us!"
The azer run forward, two searching the chairs, while others start patting the walls, looking for hidden passages.
(Some search rolls would be quicker than 'rolling 20', hint hint.)

Khayal searches as best he can. perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28 and sees nearly as much as Yazi. He is looking for anything that might help disprove that ghosts ownership of this place.
GM_Pace |
All creatures within this pavilion area are granted immunity to cold and SR 25. The fire pits are each 5 feet deep and are lined with coals taken from the heart of the Plane of Fire so that they stay eternally hot (damage taken by unprotected beings when within).
You discover behind the main throne a pile of trinkets, perhaps offerings from others who confronted Bagoas.
- a very large diamond set in a mother-of-pearl necklace (large-sized)
- several obvious wands
- a glass bottle with a cork
- surprisingly new-looking leather boots
- a Large brass spoon
- 60 feet of rope
- a small, empty book that has shiny pages
- clothing that might have been robes, or fine attire, but have turned to rags with great age
- gold: 6d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 2, 5, 3, 4) = 22
You discover an empty, fire-less fire pit behind the three thrones in the room. The pit is 20 feet deep with extremely smooth walls. An opening in the southeast section of the bottom of the pit leads...elsewhere.
To your right (looking down on the Encounter Map, left):
Past a massive curtain composed of fine, brass links lies another chamber, half the size of this one. This carpeted mosque lies beneath a gilt dome. Brass fonts on either side of the entry spit forth streams of burning oil into small basins. Prayer niches open on the wall to the left, and an alcove to the right holds shelves for footwear. A three-step obsidian dais holds a shining brass minbar where the imam would stand to exhort the faithful.
Several efreeti-sized figures in beggars' rags are all seated facing the raised platform (you see their backs).
To your left (looking down on the Encounter Map, right):
Past a massive curtain composed of fine, brass links lies another chamber, half the size of this one. This oddly shaped chamber is a study in opulence, from floors of polished mother-of-pearl inlays to diaphanous wall hangings and curtains of the most delicate threadwork. A low balcony lined with cushioned divans and a luxurious bathing pool replete with fountain and crystalline waters complete the chamber’s decor, yet the decadence is tainted by the heavy smell of sulfur.
Bones lie in the bottom of the pool.
Several openings in the walls indicate rooms lie elsewhere.
--------------
Of a piece of paper like a deed, or a statue of a ruler, or even a small signet ring that might help you with the ghost, nothing is found.
"Eh, you lot whisper now, I don't like the side-rooms here a bit." Coldtooth told the other azer when he returned. "Maybe, masters, we should look elsewhere?" he told Yazi.
(For those counting rounds, take off 10.)
GM_Pace |
(Spoilers - kinda. I didn't want a wall o' text, either. The curtains to the other rooms look solid on the Encounter Map but the description has them semi-see-through.)
(Sending personal messages to Nasir and Hajar again. I hope Hajar hasn't lost his job, since he was a Vice Principal of a school?)
GM_Pace |
Rayhan decides to observe the chamber, rather than search.
Knowledge: The Planes: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (3) + 19 = 22
Hajar, likewise, does not care to search. "If what our spellcasters says is true." he states, floating down to the ground, "We need to either prepare to fight the dwarf again, or flee to outside the chamber. We might not get such a long delay next time. Do we fight, or flee?" Hajar positions himself in front of the central dias, where Bagoas the dwarf was first seen. (Hajar's helm is now within the 30-foot range of damage to undead.)
After hearing Coldtooth, Hajar asked, in a lower voice, "What did you see?" The dwarf ran over and told the human. Nasir followed, as did another azer, to listen to the fire-dwarf. She positioned herself, ready to attack the dwarf, should he appear. "Ready to flee, prepared to fight; not that I like fighting immortal ghosts, but we don't have much choice, do we?" Nasir asked.
(Encounter Map updated. Characters moved to near the central dias, except for Rayhan, Bartan, and their mercenary guards.)
GM_Pace |
Rayhan, hearing about the loot behind the central dias, has his curiosity overcome his patience. He managed to get to Yazi's position behind the throne when-
A bluish figure flickers, then solidifies on the throne, the hairless dwarf with the funny tall hat and clad in robes. "IN-FI-DELS!" Bagoas screams, before choking on the effects of Hajar's helm. "Arrgh! What the?" the ghostly dwarf sputters, as if caught in a trap.
Hajar's Helm of Brilliance vs. undead: 1d6 ⇒ 2
(Bagoas is caught flat-footed. I believe several people had Attacks of Opportunity planned?)

Nasir, Yazi, and Khayal all hit the surprised ghost, who flinches as the weapons slowly pass through his incorporeal form.
"Hm. Based on our last efforts, we will need to each strike three more times to cause the dwarf here to rejuvenate his incorporeal form." Rayhan mused.
